what's going on guys welcome to the channel so I have a new project for you guys you guys are going to be excited about this one we've got a Dodge Dakota single cab behind me and it's going to be getting a 6.4 L 392 cubic in Hemi engine with a 8-speed swap so this is going to be a pretty cool little project and I'm excited to show you guys this one and share this with you guys because this is going to be kind of the everyday person build so if this is something that you guys want to Hemi swap your average Dakota this is going to be right up your alley if you guys do or don't know we've got the Hellcat swap Dodge Dakota there we did a full series on that but but that one there is a complete custom truck this might be more something that you guys would do piecing together yourself and a lot of the parts are going to come from Holly and they sell the swap kit to be able to pretty much put in a Hemi yourself so we got a lot of parts down there you can already see that we've got the 392 in here another shop was working on this and now we are taking over the build so a few things we're going to have to go over a lot of stuff and we're going to have to revise quite a few things you'll see here the Holly Terminator X Max it's mounted over here but these have to go inside you can't have them out in the elements so we're going to have to relocate this back inside the cab and there's a few other things this battery tray we're going to have to remove the factory battery tray you can see that the intake is going to have to go in this direction they do have the Holly fuse box bracket so you can see there that's already been installed and uh we'll have to see what we end up going with but you see here we got a factory alternator with Holly's alternator bracket as well there is actually an intake fuel pump and the fuel tank is back here so we'll have to go through all that put the tank back in so we can start running our fuel lines also have to go through a bunch of stuff it does appear that there is already a holly oil pan on here for a gen 3 Hemi so I'll have to get it up double check that make sure that it's all done correctly and uh we'll just start digging into this thing so I got a bunch of parts over here one other cool thing too two is we are going to be installing one of these Holly Pro dashes so this thing is sick so this is going to be going in for the gauges I think that's going to look super super cool and yeah we got a bunch of random parts we got the engine covers that's the box for the fuel pump but it should already be somewhere around here we still got to dig through all this stuff and figure out what's what but let's get started and get to work also you'll notice this rear axle back here so this is a 9 and a/4 this was originally a I believe V6 model but it has a smaller axle in it so we're going to upgrade it to the 9 and a/ qu as well so definitely a lot of work but I'm going to share the process with you guys so let's go all right here's a little tour underneath so this is the smaller axle looks like the 8 and a qu so we're going to end up swapping this guy out and moving our way forward we got no fuel tank in here no exhaust system we've got the hooker blackhe heart transmission crossmember with the transmission bracket so that's all on here and you can see here there is a holly oil pan on here little couple little scuffs I don't know if this is tight but looks a little maybe a little leaky I'm not sure we'll have to review that we got the starter motor mounted on the driver's side so we don't have the clearance over here like we would normally and there is our exhaust got some uh log manifolds on it currently so those are through there we'll have toh address that as necessary but and also our fuel lines the factory fuel lines will have to be removed as well so we can make way for our custom aend lines all right so here's the fuel tank it does have the Holly drop in so what I am actually going to do is uh I'm going to take this off because whoever installed this you can probably see there didn't plug this up with anything and yeah it's got some Grime in there plus I want to check the install because you do have to set the height so since uh we're not really sure on the status on this thing I want to start from Square One the last thing I want to do is get this thing all together and find out something's wrong with our fuel delivery or bad install uh so we're going to go ahead just pop it out take a quick look plus this thing is completely full of probably old fuel I'm going to guess so uh we might probably extract that and dispose it okay so I double checked everything in the tank looks like we're decent and I cleaned out this port here so we will flush out the line once we get everything connected but at least cleaned out all the junk that was stuck in there well check this out you guys I was actually going to reinstall and I noticed this you guys see a problem here so this arm needs to be able to freely articulate and the wires for the pump are wrapped around it so potentially this could get caught up on here and show you incorrect fuel might say you're empty might hold the float from fully coming up might hold the float from fully going down you never know also I did adjust the depth cuz this H hanger does have an adjustable depth so it was actually fully sucked up so meaning potentially if you had like a quarter tank of gas you could run out of gas so I lowered the pump to the bottom of the tank and uh with my measurement so measured it we're to the bottom of the tank now and uh I'm going to rout these so they don't get bound up in our float all right just before we put the tank in we're going to go ahead and install our Earl's fittings and then we can easily seal this up which uh could have occurred before but did not so this is going to to convert this fitting into our dash8 so we'll tighten that up with our Earls wrenches so it doesn't make any marks and then this here I believe is a 90 so we don't have the hose just yet but we can at least get things situated so that uh we're on our way all right just like that we got our dash8 installed all right so fuel tank is now in had to find some Hardware cuz the hardware was missing for the straps but that's back in there so that's one thing done we also did take out the factory fuel line I'm not sure if I mentioned that but that's out of there let's move on to the next thing so there is a factory oil cooler or heater depending on which way you look at it these days but you can see the two coolant lines here and then that's where the oil filter would go so it was leaking so I just then it was open to the elements as well so I just threw a blue paper towel on there here is the differential it's going to go in the 9 and a/4 so we're going to use our engine hoist since this thing is fairly heavy we'll lift this out of here and then we are going to get this out we'll set that one down as well so let's get to the re and re let's [Music] go all right so the rear axle is out I got on the cart so I can wheel it off and then we can put the new axle get it out of the back of the truck put it on here roll it back in if you guys are wondering how to do all this we got the parking brake disconnected we had to take off the brake lines and then I just swung out our leaf springs and then it was able to roll it back out so that's the way that I found that works the best on this but we also have the other parking brake cables that we got from the wrecking yard so that'll hook all in nice ly on our disc brake rear axle as well so we're not only upgrading to 9 and a/4 but also upgrading to disc in the rear so should be a pretty good upgrade let's [Music] go [Music] all right so we're out here at the junkyard and found a newer Dakota with disc brakes in the rear so we need a few things we need the perches maybe the UB bolts and we need these calipers with the brackets as well so we're going to go ahead take these off and we will get back okay so I actually had to get the UB bolts and brackets off of this one because didn't realize the other one was actually slightly smaller axle so we have the UB bolts now but uh had to get off this one instead okay so I ended up getting both calipers I also took the parking brake assembly or cables from this so two calipers parking brake assembly and then we've got our UB bolts with our brackets as well so we should be all set to be able to put that 9 and a/ qu in the other truck all right so we've got the new 9 and a/4 Axle in here it's hanging on the Springs so we'll go ahead put our UB bolts in I'm probably not going to super super tighten and finalize everything just enough so we can move the vehicle around but we are going to be getting a belte lowering kit for this so we're going to get the front and rear hangers so all this stuff will have to get disconnected but uh for now I ended up painting the hardware so let's put that stuff on we can kind of get some stuff situated here and uh also we can connect our brake lines we probably won't lead it just yet but we'll connect our brake line so we'll have our hydraulic lines connected and then I also have to disconnect these parking brake cables that are on this that are cut and we'll put in our new parking brake cables that we have and we picked [Music] up all right so we' got this axle in here we're going to have to probably run and get some brake lines as well or order new ones either way but these ones normally I wouldn't uh you know as long as they're not rusted out but this one is completely pancak I don't know if you guys can see in the camera but it is severely pinched and it is just beaten and battered all the way through this one's not too bad so but if I can find another one there's a couple little dents in it if I can find better shaped ones I probably would like to swap these out but uh let's put this down so I can uh reach the parking brake cables and we'll get those in place but we've got our UB bolts on here so this axle is bolted into place now and uh we'll bring it down we'll throw our calipers on at least till the calipers are hanging and like I said we will get our parking brake cables in place as [Music] well [Music] okay so I was just going through everything and I did decide to pop off the rotor normally you don't really have to look but we got absolutely no brake shoes in there nothing so in order for the parking brake to work we'll have to get some brake shoes but uh yeah also probably you know new rotors new pads new everything all right so this alternator setup this is a holly Mount but the thing that's going on here is one this belt is somebody put it on and the tensioner is completely maxed out I can't even loosen up the tensioner to get the belt off so that is a big no no second off this alternator is a factory alternator and to get it to run you pretty much need the factory controller you can do a lot of backgrounds programming and try to get it to work but the easier way is just going to be to put the Holly one wire alternator on there so we're going to put that on there we've got the bracket it mounts all up it's easy and then you just run one wire to get it to run so we're going to remove this and since this is uh like I said piano string tight anyways it's not really done correctly so let's get that off there let me show you what we're putting on all right so this setup is off and also the bolts were actually loose on this so uh good thing we're checking everything on this but here is the brand new Holly alternator so you can see here Holly and this one goes with their bracket and this actually going to give us more room for our battery I don't even know that this assembly would have even fit with the battery tray cuz we're still waiting for that to show up but the battery tray is going to go right here and with that alternator hanging way in I don't know that the battery would have fit this one is going to be tucked up real nice and close to the engine give us more room room for our battery so we've got our instructions we got our hardware and our bracket so we're going to go ahead Bolt the bracket to the engine and then we can slide in our alternator let me show you what that looks like okay check it out so new alternator is on and I'm pretty sure you guys can tell way more room in here so now we've got room to fit our battery tray so not only is this alternator more simple to wire up and will work better with our Holly setup but it gives us a lot more room for the battery tray so it's a win-win kind of have to go with it for a couple reasons anyways she's in here but we need to order the correct size belt cuz this brings everything closer so we're going to need a shorter belt but not a big deal we'll get that on order all right so some of our parts are starting to arrive check this out you guys so we've got the Holly Pro Dash this thing is massive and is a touch screen and we went ahead and got the mount for it so this is going to mount directly into the Dakota so that is going to look super trick we'll get that installed but I want to get everything under the hood or at least the majority of it sorted out so this is the hooker blackhe heart battery tray specifically for the 97 to4 Dodge Dakota so let's go ahead and get this in here that way we can kind of get things situated now we've got our alternator in a desirable spot we can get the battery tray in here and kind of map some stuff out before we get into the wiring all right check that out you guys so this fits beautifully in here so now we've got our battery tray in here I'll have to go pick up a battery for that and you can see here it clears our alternator nicely so that's all good still waiting for our belt to show up but let's go ahead and move on to some other stuff I want to like I said we're going to have to move some of this wiring and relocate that inside the cab so what I want to do is take off this bezel get this cluster out of here and let's see how much room we've got behind here okay check it out you guys so ended up getting our touchcreen all in here the bezel and stuff is loose and this doesn't have tilt steering so I had to actually drop the column to be able to get the bezel in and out but she's in there she's going to fit beautifully I am uh like I said this isn't clipp in but it's going to fit really really nice so what I'm doing right now is just mapping out a few things I also took off the shifter stock there since we are going 8-speed so that's off and then I'm also messing with a few things I took the Terminator X Max off since it was mounted outside and like I said this has to go inside so that I'm going to find a place inside and under the dash to do and what I'm also doing is since I got to swing all these wires back over this way I'm going to take off the intake manifold uh I want to double check some stuff back there as well but you can't get your hand back there and the way this is routed it's kind of like pinched back there so I'm going to pop this off and then I'll be able to get full access and I can route my wires the way I [Music] want all right you guys so just doing more stuff over here kind of going through more of the wiring behind the engine and we probably won't put the intake on for a while still going to do heater hoses that are right there they have to connect to our heater core and then just getting some of the wires ran through I am going to have to go pick up a battery that way I can kind of get stuff established and get some stuff over to here um into the terminals for example we're going to have to reroute our starter wire from the battery to the starter and then just stuff like the Holly stuff it needs power and ground so this is going to to get routed all the way around to our battery that sort of thing I do have the new radiator is supposed to show up so we are going to be changing that to a aluminum radiator with an electric fan so that's going to be pretty cool and then what I'm working on right now is I did a few things watch you a lot of things off camera which uh is probably going to be the case for a lot of this you guys cuz there's just so much to get done but if you look over here I mounted up our pedal but we used the Holly hooker black heart pedal Mount and it fit on here but the issue we're having is this pedal has this big S curve in it and you can see how close it is to our brake and it's not far off from where we want it it should be about half an inch over half an inch to an inch and then we will actually be right in the factory location so I'm going to have to modify that bracket but it's at least mounted it clears the floor so we're good that way but but I need to move it over so I'll end up cutting that bracket and uh moving it over cuz I can't seem to find a pedal from the factory that is straight without this S curve so but anyways plus this one's the nicer one it's the SRT pedal and then you can see I'm bringing a lot of our wiring through and I was looking to figure out where I want to mount the Terminator X in this I think I'm going to mount it right here but I'll have to make a bracket to do so if I mount it right here it'll clear everything plus the nice part is all of our LEDs right there on the bottom these are all of our kind of uh check engine lights or trouble codes they will all be visible right there if I mount this here you'll be able to see them and uh they'll actually be shining on your feet so there's any issues you'll be able to look and see any issues without having to take off any panels and yeah just getting things routed in I did some other stuff off camera there's a lot of stuff that I've removed took off the shifter cable so shifter cables out we also have our throttle cable that was removed so a lot of that stuff and just kind of taken out took out the old battery tray that was there the factory one and this is kind of just a lot of the remnants of parts that are coming out of this truck here but one thing I do want to do is we're going to be hopping around a little bit as Parts come in and as we get stuff ordered we do have to get a custom drive shaft measured for this truck so that's going to take probably a few weeks to get in so I want to get that measured as soon as possible and in order to get that measured I have to put it over there on the forpost so the the suspension is under load some people might ask well hey John can't you measure off of this one but this has an adhp 90 so this is a Hellcat transmission whereas this is just the Scat Pack transmission so the Transmissions are different lengths so it won't work for both unfortunately the lengths will be slightly different so I can't measure off of that one it's going to have to be a custom measurement the other thing too is we've got a beltec 24 drop kit for this thing it showed up and I want to get that on so that we can see where the suspension is going to be for our drive shaft so right now like I said I'm working on wiring and everything I've kind of gotten everything roughed in to where I want it but I'm going to actually jump over to the belte 24 kit that way we can get this thing set I can get this truck up here measure the drive shaft get it ordered and then continue back onto this stuff here and get more of the wiring and plumbing and all that stuff [Music] underway all right so we're continuing right now the bed is is off and we took the bed off for a few reasons one so that we could run our fuel lines and also so that we could run our electrical for our new Hol fuel pump so if you guys are curious on lowering it we ended up doing a beltech 24 on this thing so that was the other reason and we obviously cleaned all this up degreased it and painted it so if you guys are curious on the drop on this thing I'll link that above here it's a separate video or I'm not sure which one will come out but by the time you might watch this both videos might be released so I have a complete video on lowering this what I'm doing right now these two wires here they are for our fuel level sensor so how much fuel is in the tank so that can run through the stock wiring but as far as the actual feed to the pump this one is a ground so what I'm going to do is I don't see any nice access wires over here so just in case what I'm going to do is this existing hole right here I'm going to put a rivert right there and then I'm going to put a 10 mil head bolt 6 mm thread right there so that will we go plenty of length here so that'll reach to there and then this should get me actually down over there past the tank but we will end up running 12 gauge wire I got to extend this obviously that's not going to make to the front of the truck but I'll extend it with my 12 gauge wire there and then uh that will make it up there so I'm just going to get this stuff roughed in that way we can put the bed back on and we don't have to hopefully take this off and also I've got here our Earls fitting our dash8 so I'll also make up the fuel line just a second but let me get this done and show you guys so here here is our rib sech I just going to get the correct size and then I can put these guys in here okay so we got the wiring all situated I got to get some Loom on it so that I can kind of dress it in a little bit better but essentially I've got this all bundled here comes over to the factory wiring we've got our like I said our fuel level indicator spliced in there the extra two Factory wires these are what originally went to the pump I've got those sealed off with heat shink so that comes there and then like I mentioned we put our rivert there so that's where our ground is going to go so ground is going straight to the pump and then I extended the wire and I kind of just shoved it up there so once we get the vehicle back up I can string it all the way to the front and the fuse box is on this side too so that's all situated now I've got our Mr Gasket hose so we've got our das8 hose we've been using this stuff on all of our builds you guys Hellcat Dakota Hellcat Ram pretty much everything we've built is using this even our SST over there it's all using this stuff it's been working awesome for us so we got that and then we've got the dash8 90° fitting so I'm going to put this on the hose and essentially what this is going to do is that's going to go right there and we can start routing it through here so let me get this on the end of the hose we're using our Earls clamp here as well this just makes things way easier guys and these don't Mark your fitting so we got the same aluminum as the fitting and crazy enough when you use the same actual aluminum as a fitting it doesn't Mark anything so here you go brand new fitting and watch after we you put this on it's still going to look brand [Music] new all right there we go guys like I said not a single mark on this fitting so let's go ahead and let's install this on the pump side all right so we got our fuel line on here so it's going to route through there and then it is going to come across here we still got to secure it but once we finalize it and get on the intake manifold and then I'm coming across here I'm going to go across this transmission brace so that we're free get clear of any of our heat sources cuz if you came across here if it fell down on the exhaust that would obviously be a bad day so coming across here we've got this and then I've got it coming through here and then it goes up and we're on top of the engine so we're good there and also we've got our wire for our fuel pump here so I'll end up stringing this through here and bring it over to there but I still want to put some Loom on it so I just going to leave it bundled up right there I got to get some uh Loom on order for that but we're making good progress here okay also it does look like somebody wired up the starter wire so I don't know what's going on there because clearly the battery can't be mounted on that side since the intake is going to be on the driver's side on this setup so so let me take this off here they also got a zip tie here so take that off that we can feed it up top figure out what they tried to wire into cuz it's going to have to go over there and our battery tree is going to be on that side so we're going to have to reroute that for sure all right and just before we put the bed back on I do notice one hopefully nonissue but if you guys can see it let me hit the lights here I do see this wet here so I'm going to clean this off with brake clean I am hoping whoever previously installed this that they sealed it up correctly uh that's the one issue with letting certain people do things I can see that there's a bolt there but then there's one missing here so maybe if I find that missing bolt and put it in there I'm just hoping that we don't have to take this pan off cuz as you can see if we have to take the pan off this K member does not come out or I shouldn't even call it a k member because it doesn't have one but there's no removable K member here so if I got to take this pan off this engine has to come off and to take the engine out you pretty much have to take the transmission out cuz this is such a tight chassis so I just hope that this thing is sealed because if it's not we are looking at a pretty substantial amount of work here so let me clean that off let me find hopefully the missing bolt for there and uh we'll keep an eye on this because this might end up being a lot of work to remedy okay so I went ahead and found a bolt for there for now so hopefully that was maybe just a gasket leak there and then I cleaned it off so now hopefully this doesn't continue to get wet and then also had to order a couple fittings for a transmission so we can get our transmission cooler lines starting to get routed and yeah let's put this thing down and get the bed back [Music] [Music] on [Music] okay so the truck is on the ground you guys but uh I got to reach out to uh the manufacturer of the lowering kit clay milin actually he sent me a message when he saw that I was putting this kit on and he said dude my truck was sitting a lot lower in the rear than the front when I put it on and uh yeah I'd have to agree with them in that so A few things I'm not too too worried about it cuz there is um a lot of different things we can do so I can probably lower the front more the other thing too is each hanger is supposedly worth 2 in so I can always put one of the stock hangers on the back to lift it up um I'm just going to decide I guess uh with the owner which way they would like to go whether they want it you know Low Low Like This or and I can match the front or if they want to bring the back end up thing too is these wheels are pretty large in diameter like I know he wants to go with like a sport look so these ones are going to be a smaller diameter so with the smaller diameter wheel you are going to get more of a gap afterwards so we'll see we'll probably tune this thing in afterwards but yeah that that is definitely not how it should look or ride I don't know what's going on with the with that kit but yeah anyways so still got a lot of work to do you guys um I'm going to focus on the mechanical aspect of it so at least the rear end is lowered to the extent and I mean if we move it up an inch or two or you know whatever way we go with it at least it's in the ballpark of where we want it to be um so we'll be okay there we could probably measure for the drive shaft so I got to at some point get that off of there and then push this onto that so I can measure for the drive shaft so that'll happen this week so we can get on that but I wanted to introduce this project with you guys get a bunch of stuff done and kind of show you guys all that so this I know some people might comment on this like I said this radiator we're going to be replacing with an upgraded aluminum one so this beat up one's coming out of here and I'll end up cleaning up a lot of stuff like the hoses and stuff so it all looks nice you guys know how I do it so um yeah but I'm just kind of working through everything sorting through everything and getting things done but let me know if you guys are excited about this project I know it's not as much power or as crazy as like the 62 swap but we're going to get this 64 in here and then I believe we might be either camming this or supercharging it or something either way it's going to end up getting more power down the road so pretty exciting projects like I said share this with any friends or in any places that you think other people would enjoy it and also head over to our website you guys shop boost.com is live so you can pick up a shirt like the one I'm wearing we have a few other designs we also have a bunch of other parts and accessories and all kinds of stuff plus consultations if you guys are working on a project like this and you want my assistance on it I am available for consultations we've got the Hemi swap consultation and also Hellcat swap so whatever you're getting into I got you so head over there and we'll see you guys on next video
