hello I'm zaris and let's play City skylines 2 today I'm doing a tutorial on how to use the road building tools so in the game come down to the roads and then you see that you've got a variety of things some of these might not be unlocked for you I believe at the beginning of the game small roads and roundabouts are the only things unlocked the other things you need to unlock through progression which we can talk about at another time but for now let's start with a two-lane road and go through the different things we've got the to mode over here you can see that just makes it a straight line so I can go like that and it is a straight line I can do a simple curve which you click with your left click You Go the Distance you want to have your middle point of the turn you left click again and then you go the rest of the way that's a simple turn then the complex curve you go and you click your left click at the start you click in the turn and then you can click again again to get a second turn so you can get a S curve that way then you can do a continuous curve which is what you might be used to from the first city skyline so you make a curve and then you can just continue to build your road and it will go ahead and generate the curves for you as you're going then we have the new thing grid mode so you want to click and then you want to click to Define where you want one end of the grid to be and then you can go this way and it will Define the rest of it now the downside to grid mode is it will automatically pick where your roads go you can't define the size of the grid so that is the downside to that then we have replays so now this is a key thing let's go to oneway Road I'm going to build it and the one way will be in the direction that you built it the first time if you want to change it you can go to replace and then left click and drag in the direction you want it to go so left click and drag to get that to reverse then we can go to other things we can do elevation so we can increase the elevation and you can change going up here that does 10 m right away or you can change your elevation step and that changes how much you are changing with these buttons and then you can build this or if you are at a low elevation it will automatically raise the terrain around it it is filling that terrain up you can also use the page up and page down buttons to do this at this point you can see there is a change in the way it looked right here you can see that is going to fill that is going to build an elevated road with the um the cement around it if you go up higher then you get this style with the pillars to get to add pillars you need need to add a node so now we added a node there and then we can go and we can bulldoze hit the B button to get the bulldozer tool and oh that took it out because that removed the node but you can always add those nodes and hopefully you can get the pillars where you want them to be then the other thing we want to do is we want to talk about parallel mode so we can go oh the yeah you can go to negative elevation too and it will cut into the road or into the ground look at that there's a little bit of weird shadows going on but you can see it built a retaining wall on the side of the hill and not on the other side that is cutting into the terrain so when we talk about cut and fill roads that's what you have you have the fill this way and the cut like that uh that yeah that one cut a tiny bit but if you go farther then it will get that cut like that that cut both sides which is another cool look okay then we can come in and we can do parallel mode click here and you can change the amount of the offset so we can change the amount of the offset here which changes how much or like how far apart the two roads are this is as tight as we can get it or you can make it pretty wide you can go all the way up to 12 offset which you can see if we go this way how far apart that is so that's how far you can go then we can hit bulldo to remove these and we can see other things that we have let's go ahead and turn off parallel mode these are your different snapping options let's take a look at all of them so this will toggle all of them on and off but let's take a look snap to existing geometry that will snap to your road so if we have it like this you can see it is snapping to that side of this wide Road or on this side of the wide Road or in the middle and that can play a role in how you are doing things but if you turn off that snapping you can place it anywhere in the road and that really plays a role when you're at the end let's get a build when you're at the end of a road and you're trying to decide which side of the road you want to continue you can do that or you can go in the middle and it will kind of end both lanes or you can turn this off and kind of go a little bit off center so you have a wide range of options there then you can do snap to zoning cell length and that means that when you here I'm going to turn this back on so we snap to the road when you come out past the zoning squares you can see it is going a chunk at a time that is a zoning Square length if we turn that off we have freedom no matter how far we want to go then you can do snap to 90° angles and then you can see that I can turn like this but when I get to 90 it snapped right there so then you know you've got a 90° angle you can do snap to the sides of a building so you can come over to the side of a building here and it gives you a little line which is right on the side of that you turn that off it does not give you that line on the building itself snap to guidelines that brings up different part like here's a node it is showing me where that node is and I can come all the way over here so that would be 90° to that road or I can come up here and get 90° to that or I can find a node this way like here and then I can come up and it gives me another thing I can turn there and get 90° here and it would have been 180° there then we can do snap to the Zone grid so that brings it so that it is now snapping to your uh squares in your zone so you can see it snapping there or it's not snapping like that then the last thing is we have contour lines here you can turn those on so that they're visible when you're building roads that's a very useful thing now once you've unlocked some things you can get roundabouts I have not unlocked more you can get parking spaces or you can upgrade roads so let's go ahead we can once we've done that in the development tree we can come in and we can add or remove stop light so we're adding it by left clicking and removing it by right clicking on the intersection you can turn it into a stop sign or right click and remove that you can make it so there's no left turn you can see the arrow there is indicating that there is a left turn but if I click here then there's no left turn if I want to put it back I can right click on that segment you can do no straight ahead so now anybody through here would have to turn left there or you can do no right turn so those are useful you could remove the crosswalk so right now I have that selected if I right click it takes that crosswalk out can remove it there too or I can add it there and there so those are different things we can do we can widen the sidewalks just a little bit that removed the parking and just made extra wide sidewalks you can right click to remove them you can add grass on the side right click to remove it you can add trees to the side and grass look at that very nice or you can right click to remove them again those trees will take time to grow lighting you can change the lighting I believe street light fixures that don't already have them so what you have is some roads don't have street lights like this you can come in and you can add street lights oh it's not working the way I thought it would work maybe an alley no that one has it so I'm not quite sure what this one does but that's all right then the last thing is you can add a sound barrier to your highways so let's go to a highway over here we have a highway and of course we can add a side a a sound barrier my farms are in the way so they won't build it right here but you can see like that that adds the sound barrier we can remove it then and that would just mitigate that sound like it says but that is it for how to build roads so I hope you found this useful if you did be sure to click on the video on the screen now it is a full beginners guide where I will take you step by step through how to build a city and City skyelines too thanks for watching and I will catch you next time take care
