[Music] hi guys when I went to build a 9-millimeter AR style rifle I have a thousand questions I had to watch a lot of videos and do a lot of research to get the answers I needed hopefully this video will answer a lot of your questions and if you have any questions I didn't answer here please feel free to ask me in the comments this is not how to build an AR video but it will give you a good overview of what you need to build one there are two ways you can go with the lower receiver number one you can use a standard 556 ar-15 lower and buy a magazine well adapter that fits into the magazine well and accepts nine millimeter magazines the benefits of this are that you can remove the adapter and still use the lower with the standard AR upper basically using one upper for two or more rifles of different calibers the drawback to the magazine adapter is that they can be finicky and sometimes need to be filed down or modified to function properly the second type of lower is a dedicated nine millimeter lower the benefit of a dedicated nine millimeter lower is that it is a nine millimeter lower it's ready to accept nine millimeter magazines these typically come with the magazine release and ejector already installed and are designed to use either Glock or Colt style magazines you need to decide which type of magazine you prefer because these are two completely different designs dedicated nine millimeter lowers typically don't feature last round bolt hold-open if this is important to you look for a dedicated nine millimeter lower that says lr BHO in the description personally I prefer a dedicated nine millimeter lower not only for function also for looks I just think it looks better to have a skinny stick magazine sticking out of a skinny magazine well as opposed to all the extra space you have if you use a five five six lower if you choose to build your AR nine with the magazine well adapter any standard AR lower parts kit will work fine make sure to use a ramp nine millimeter bolt carrier group we'll talk about that in a minute if you are using a dedicated nine millimeter lower any parts kit will work also although you won't need the magazine release if your lower doesn't have last round bolt hold-open the bolt release will function anyway but can still be installed for look be sure to use a ramp nine millimeter bolt carrier group you don't need a special upper for a nine millimeter AR build any normal AR up or will work but there are a couple of things to consider there are uppers designed for nine millimeter which have either no ejection port door or a smaller than normal dust cover in a shell deflector combo you can find nine-millimeter uppers which are bone stock ar-15 uppers with nine millimeter printed on them you don't need a special nine millimeter upper I like to standard AR slick side uppers which don't have a forward assist because the forward assist won't engage nine millimeter both anyway and I just think it looks cleaner [Music] alright these are the parts that are specific to a nine millimeter AR and are not the same as a standard ar-15 make sure to use a nine millimeter buffer buffers designed to be used in nine-millimeter ARS are heavier than standard AR buffers the same goes for the buffer spring the nine-millimeter buffer spring is much stiffer than a 556 spring one easy way to be sure you're using the right parts is to buy a kit which includes the buffer tube buffer and spring there are spacers designed to fit in the buffer tube which effectively stiffen the spring if you want to use a standard AR spring but it's just as easy to buy the proper spring you will also need a nine millimeter bolt carrier group AR 9s are operated by blowback and don't have or need a gas key they're designed with a little hump on top so a normal ar-15 charging handle has something to grab hold of I mentioned earlier to make sure you use a ramped bolt carrier group this refers to the center area of the bolt carrier group under the firing pin this should be slightly angled or ramped this allows clearance for a standard lower parts kit hammer most nine millimeter bolts you'll see are ramped but if you're not sure ask the seller and don't worry if you have a non ramped bolt you can still get a modified hammer which doesn't need the extra clearance finally the 9 millimeter barrel 9-millimeter rifle barrels will fit a standard AR upper they screw right in just like a normal five five six barrel since the nine-millimeter AR is operated by blowback it does not need a gas block like a standard ar-15 so there's no hole on top of the barrel for a gas block since there is no gas block or gas tube to fool with barrel installation is simple there's no worries about timing the barrel nut nine millimeter barrels have different threads on the muzzle end so only muzzle devices designed for nine millimeters will fit flash hiders muzzle brakes compensators made proof five five six rifles have a smaller diameter and will not work or fit hopefully I've answered most of your questions in this video if there's anything you're still not clear about or if you have any other questions I didn't cover in this video please feel free to ask me below in the comments thanks for watching and don't forget to hit the like button if you found this video helpful [Music]
