here we are in Adamsville Tennessee we're at the home of Buford Pusser the legendary sheriff and it's now a museum come on in [Music] [Music] so here we are in Buford Pusser home Buford Pusser of course is the legendary sheriff from McNairy County we're in Adamsville Tennessee and if you've seen a walking tall film then you know about Buford Pusser but this is really where he lived and we're gonna find out the day who all visited here since his living here in passing in 1974 I was influenced by the walking tall film it was the classic bad versus good film and a Buford being the good guy and basically taking on all the corruption in this area through his stances law enforcement officer and a lot of tragedy that's unfolding in his life and it's just it made for good Hollywood films but we have to remember the tragedy that we saw these films actually happened Buford lost his wife to a murder and you can imagine the family that was here at the time losing a loved one in such a tragic way but Buford was truly an upstanding law enforcement officer and he did what he believed was right and he did it in his own way surely longtime friend of Buford Custer's and the family do you mind give us on a tour 1937 finish code in 1956 it was real good ballplayer averaged about 27 points a game number 61 football team his grades weren't real good and he went on to become a wrestler three months later he got a medical discharge he had asked he was sent to Parris Island came home no job brother John lived in Chicago he goes to Chicago gets a job a union bag company wrestles on the weekends be affordable let me jump in there for a second you mentioned John was his brother and he had a restaurant called Big John's and Henderson Tennessee rat I just I went to college there so I used to wheat that was the big thing was a good out of Big John's and he so we in fact I met his brother at one time there this goes back many years but can you I know there's an Elvis story connected with the fire can you share a little bit about that well that I have me first few setbacks Truman visited with the family but he also gave Beaufort a thousand-dollar check when the house burned in 70 Wow so maybe there was a relationship there and then yeah and so it almost didn't attend the funeral in person but he came that way hey tell the family he said I know that I would make a showing if I went to the church and I don't want to take like a beaver so he didn't wear wouldn't a house burn and they built back a bit back like it was but he made him a mancave downstairs he didn't like sleeping up here anymore huh was it for security reasons well she didn't she was shared that he shared that bedroom with her say and he didn't didn't have her when the house built back so I see mr. Warner's bedroom well it's truly like it was I mean carpet and everything everything has not changed at all this is max bedroom see Elvis came through that mower and set in here Wow made me buy it this is a it's I I got goose bumps just for the fact everything is so original I feel like we you know I mean you knew the family so it's a little different for you maybe because it was like you know it's extended family to you I've come in here I've got goose bumps for the fact I feel like I've walked back in time and having seen 71 wow we're having an I don't know if you heard me say earlier I had seen a lot of the walking tall films when I was a kid so I was a fan of you first didn't know him like you did but I was a fan as a kid just because he was this big tough guy that in my mind was eliminating bullies you know he was he was telothane he wasn't earth he was he do anything for you if you do high for right but he didn't a lot of lot of nonsense that's right he sure didn't well this is max three children okay and I'm like still living okay I guess walking through from a law enforcement perspective I mean he he had attempts on his life many times and had been shot several times I did and he was a tough guy clearly protecting his jurisdiction but his family as well did the family the kids did they have fear of any kind no they just kind of grow up knowing what their did that did yeah the your life told them that the house was shot into that wasn't so so some there's some Hollywood creative license in some of the films I don't think that family was ever threatened no Buford he I'm sure there was some people after him but not the family I don't think there was anybody after the family with the exception of sadly his wife just happened to be at the wrong place Mona Mona run with him yeah she didn't usually go with you later we had an art teacher that did that painting at 80 years old and donated it to the museum mr. green that Daniel Wow that's Walter this fan that we've known of beavers well the museum was Robert Festina from North Carolina he and the boys made overseas but he used to have us financially big time and he passed away his widow donated to these them well that's nice very great I'm Johnny Cash and some more slavers had to get together for Beaufort Linda tell me run for governor no kidding but I don't thank me for the run for governor he forgot he'll be furs moments what Trat Trat what's wrong is wrong no matter who you are so that wouldn't that wouldn't fit in with politics so Billy and Johnny did they visit here or they just tell the town hey he hated it Johnny Cash's oh wow okay and if they get to get at Johnny Cash's so they probably would have been taken at the home on the lake and Hendersonville Wow - there's gonna be his bedroom gift shop 74 Laker Ranger the core restrooms right on spec is it fine if we going down [Music]
