oh my God [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Applause] foreign [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] a non-profit organization here in Huntington Beach providing Polynesian dance and music training from the islands of Hawaii Tahiti and Samoa in alignment with this year's theme Surf City's soul kamakati is opening the parade celebration with songs and dances from many of the island communities including our sister Islands from the Caribbean that come together as one here in Huntington Beach Surf City our motto is one Spirit many souls and we are many Souls connected as one Spirit featured is our opening song America composed and sung by our local recording artist Greg de Castro what a way to start off a parade what a treat to see I I mean I love seeing our Drone footage too to see him down going down Main Street and everybody enjoying watching that was just electrifying and they're they're all they're all in unison they're doing a great job off right the parade is now officially underway as they march on down Main Street with a huge crowd waiting to see them and then there's a lot of tradition here in the parade you're going to see some familiar faces and some familiar folks and it's all so wonderful and that's why the crowd is here bright and early every day because they love to see uh the shows and the Boy Scouts that are coming up as well I'd love to see all of that I love to see this as well David and you can see guys they are peeking right through we are looking at the capitol United States and at Arlington National Cemetery it represents the rights of freedom for all Americans again this is the honor color guard of Scouts of America and it's incredible they are presented by the Pacifica District of the Boy Scouts of America and you're looking at it right now the Garrison flag this is a giant flag it takes up this whole street it's 20 feet by 38 feet and I don't know if you know this but it takes about 40 Scouts to carry this flag it is quite the sight to see rolling down Main Street good job everyone carrying this scouting today it offers the diverse opportunities for young men and women to learn about leadership to experience the outdoors and how to explore many vocations through the merit badge program again we welcome these representatives of the more than 2 000 Scouts and 800 adult leaders in the Pacifica District yeah that is one of the most iconic shots of them carrying that flag and next up you can hear them the July 4th parades hosts fan its official name is the Huntington Beach High School District host band it was first born in America's bicentennial year of 1976 and has performed in the Huntington Beach Parade ever since that's a long time and The Man Behind the Music is Gary Wampler he's been directing this band since 1976 and he's back here again today now that's what I call a music man and look at the Young Folks the Young Musicians out there playing away this band is made up from Top performers coming from six different middle and high schools in a local District they have been practicing non-stop the last two weeks to get ready for today's performance so let's listen in [Music] [Applause] thank you all can see the sights and sounds and we are going to go to Irene Cruz one of our reporters with a very special guest Irene hi David and Colleen one of the beautiful things about this parade is that they have so many great organizations that are part of it we have Dr anje rastogi with UCLA core kidney good morning to you happy Fourth of July good morning Irene and happy Fourth of July so I understand ABC 7 has a very special tie to the corkini program yes a very special tie in Philip Palmer who is a living Kidney donor but actually more than that I think what he does for the kidney Community is priceless he has always been very supportive and actually advocating for kidney disease awareness and that's why we're here but I want to go one step further Philip Palmer is obviously a key but ABC 7 has been a true partner of UCLA core kidney program the importance of getting more so it doesn't get enough attention it's one of the leading causes of death in in the U.S we have 37 million patients with kidney disease and most of them don't know it his hundred thousand patients on the waiting list and the Western is going so we have to increase the awareness about kidney donation living kidney donation absolutely Dr rastogi thank you so much and it's really important that we get donors here in with in your program we really appreciate talking to you this morning happy fourth thank you Irene thank you what a great interview Irene and doctor thank you so much for all you're doing out there and now we want to go on to see what's sailing down Main Street right now and let's join Tony Cabrera aye aye Captain would you believe it or not this was by the shop the wood shop at Marina High School they built this Mr Caldwell tell us about that hey very proud we've had this ship built at Marina High School by the wood shop students it's seaworthy we take it out and Road in the Huntington Harbor we have the sale as well so we can sail it right around the harbor and it's just a blast Hands-On project for the kids and we get to have the honor of riding on the Valhalla today awesome and then one last thing about Fourth of July you know tell us tell me why you're proud to be an American oh man just the greatest country in the on planet Earth Freedom love and just all the freedom in the world we love it man there we go love what we do okay David Colleen see you in a bit fantastic oh well done that's right well look at that I can't believe the high school students made this and it actually works on the Water Well Done to them well done to their teacher Bob Mead for uh teaching them how I mean what a vocation to learn how to do wood craftsmanship it's incredible and what a they must feel so proud of themselves I would be proud I mean those are life skills I made a cutting board in which shop it's not a boat Fantastic look at this this is really cool there have now been six Jurassic Park movies to hit the Silver Screen the very first film in this enduring movie franchise came out in 1993 that's 30 years ago and some people who saw that first Jurassic Park film and how it brought dinosaurs to life became super fans of the franchise so the vehicles that you see here today are from the Jurassic Park motor pool these vintage vehicles are Recreations of the one seen in the film and they are kept in Tip-Top shape by members of the films fan club so they can take part in local events like today's parade and there they go driving on down the street that's what the dinosaur is and what a franchise that was I remember that first one I did too I can't believe it's been 30 years I know that's unbelievable speaking of driving down Main Street you see Irene Cruz right there with another special guest hi again Irene hi you guys I'm here with Laura and Tim from Pacific Paradise Pools based out of Santa Ana tell me about the energy that you're seeing out here today oh it's awesome everybody is just so proud to be out here and celebrate it's great and Tim you're having a great time waving to the crowds what does being an American really mean to you on the 4th of July freedom of expression freedom of speech thought for it and those who fought for it wonderful and your favorite part of the Fourth of July wow just honestly as a veteran's mom appreciating those people wonderful Laura Tim thank you so much happy independence day we'll send things back over to uh They Were Striking up the band again and you can see right here as well band is playing you can see again they It's a combination of military musicians coming to us from the California National Guard and they have been in performance at various locations and venues all throughout this long Independence Day holiday weekend this is uh here comes a colorful float featuring students in the just served clubs and all of local areas high schools including Edison Ocean View Marina Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach high schools uh just serve is a movement that leaks volunteers with Community organizations that need help whatever your age or your ability you can go to justserve.org and find a service opportunity that works for you whether it's painting gardening teaching literacy serving meals even knitting Colleen so Marching for the first time in the Fourth of July parade are members from the 50 just serve high school clubs throughout Orange County these club members they have given more than 10 000 hours of service to the community this school year alone but you don't have to be in high school to help go to justserve.org and join in the fun and it's great Colleen to see these kids learning about serving their community and doing the right thing yes it absolutely is David and uh kind of making a return appearance is another very popular program it's the therapeutic Writing Center of Huntington Beach and Tony Cabrera you're with them oh my goodness these horses are beautiful and Donna is here to kind of share why these horses are so important for Huntington Beach so we are the therapeutic Writing Center of Huntington Beach and we are a 501c3 non-profit providing adults and children with disabilities equine assisted activities so we provide lessons to children as young as three years old up to 85 years old to provide that equine assisted activities incredible can I pet the horse yeah okay look at this even the horses are decked out with red blood and red white and blue hi buddy hi buddy what's chat Jack Jack happy Fourth of July to you happy fourth okay serious Jack are all noddings yes there we go there we go we'll see you guys in a bit oh that's beautiful you know horses are a very important part of this parade and many of the parades and it's just beautiful to see them in real life and the way they can manage them and they seem to really enjoy the crowd as well they are Majestic and you can see why they are so therapeutic for so many people who enjoy riding it is a lifelong passion so many people oh you're taking a look right there at the Girl Scouts of Orange County I was a girl scout I know the commitment that they also do to the community right so uh participating once again Huntington Beach's Fourth of July parade are members of the Girl Scouts representing local troops across Huntington Beach Girl Scouts believe that every girl can change the world in Girl Scouts girls of all backgrounds and abilities can discover their strengths and rise to meet their challenges you know I you know there you know they're lead the way as they find their voices make changes that affect the issues most important to them you know it you do work together you do a lot of a lot of different experiments to try to learn about your passions in Girl Scouts and it's just a great camaraderie between you and your friends and your community again stay with us we'll be right back you're watching live images from this Fourth of July parade in Huntington Beach [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] all right we are rocking out at the Fourth of July headed to the beach parade and this is red eye this company provides batteries that are the future of clean portable renewable energy for all of your Outdoor Adventures and red eye they power what moves you and as you can see they brought with them a rock and roll band and they're rocking the crowd right now playing for us today aboard the red eye float is the wolf Mama band and the performance is fully powered by red eye one of many folks here at the Huntington Beach parade and by the way this is the 119th year of this parade coming I know it isn't take a look keep making its way down the parade you're going to see a Tony Cabrera I believe on that fire truck right there Tony I see that blue ABC7 yes hi I'm way up here this is uh the highest we're getting so far but I'm here with engineer pablovski with the Huntington Beach City Fire Department tell me when you drive down in this big truck and you see just everybody out here red fun I usually have to work well happy Fourth of July to you and the Departments okay I've never been this High during a parade take some balance I got a balance here we're good we're good that thing is humongous if you see in real life that thing is huge they just went on by us and they're going by the camera right there there's Tony saying hi to everybody and that's great seeing the fire department here the Huntington Beach Fire Department uh in person they've certainly protect this community and when they come out and with the lights and Sirens going everyone is excited and this this crowd has been growing along Main Street minute by minute it is incredible to see the amount of people uh coming out here they do every year if this is an absolute beloved tradition here in Huntington Beach as well and you can see that other fantastic fire truck right there I know that um they take care of this community and again we always appreciate them this is the uh Seagrave fire engine the Huntington Beach firefighters association with a 1922 Seagrave fire engine so think about that that vehicle that you're looking at is a hundred and one years old this 1922 Seagrave fire engine was the first motorized fire apparatus purchased by the City of Huntington Beach which was then replacing its horse-drawn firefighting equipment volunteers for the Huntington Beach fire firefighters Association have dedicated thousands of hours while partnering with community and local businesses who donate time funding and services to make the dream of restoring this fire engine nearly complete the ship and Lighthouse artwork on the engine cowling are original and painstakingly restored by Spade Brothers gear in Huntington Beach so please join us in embracing this beautiful piece of Huntington Beach history yeah absolutely and let's take a look at I mean it's going to be hard for them you're so tiny compared to those horses I know I barely go up to the horses back here but aren't they such beautiful creatures Majestic they're gorgeous gorgeous absolutely I'm with Michonne with the Norco cowgirls tell me about these beautiful animals well as you can see there are animals they get a little crazy sometimes I mean I saw you hyping up the crowd earlier tell me about the energy and the excitement that you're getting from the crowds the joy that people are seeing getting from maximum height of just 34 inches at the shoulder let's get to Irene Cruz I mean David Colleen earlier you were saying I was too tidy next to those massive horses I think High Minis and this is Levi Main Street right there it's Albertsons and bond and you can see this wonderful VW Bug these aren't oldies but goodies the vintage models that are right here we know that there's a truck as well the grocery chains Huntington Beach doors are also helping raise money to put on this amazing event by selling Fourth of July merchandise that is a 1963 VW Beetle uh and is the Nascar Edition from the racing scene in Disney's Herbie Fully Loaded that movie was started Lindsay Lohan you could tell Herbie is excited to be part of the parade once again this year beep beep number 53 that kind of gives it away but boy that was one of the most popular cars in the world at one time I feel like they're used to be all of these clubs that had them take a look at that again you're looking at these trucks this is the Vintage Model A Truck it's also these trucks these vehicles take so much dedication and time to make them these are beautiful they're so well maintained but again this is from Albertsons and bonds and Pavilions fantastic and Albertsons Vons wishes you and your families a very happy and safe Fourth of July I love these old cars and the fact that you could refurbish them or keep them alive and to see them go down this Parade route I would love to have one of those vintage cars but they're worth a lot of money and they take a lot of work but works of art they are they're they're great to see that they always sort of Marvel at them whenever you see one of these old cars with their kids as well uh and also you know making their way down we can hear a lot of action coming here their daily life going to the beach being part of this environment and it's a it's a very close-knit Community they call it Surf City now but you know in the old days they used to call it Oil City it was a home to the biggest oil field in the United States in the 1920s there are still working oil wells in neighborhoods across Huntington Beach uh and you could see them if you come here but it's the water and the waves that brings most people here to Huntington Beach and these beaches are beautiful and that's for sure earlier as this is a tradition every year we saw some people in the hotel last night they make they come here every year 30 years running you said you met somebody who comes out with their family it is something that everyone comes out to every year here's a contingent of Brave American Heroes these Navy veterans all served in submarines during World War II the Korean War the Gulf War and in times of Peace our U.S Navy submarine Fleet silently patrols the world's oceans helping us keep the freedoms that we enjoy today these veterans we see here today maintain the World War II submarine Memorial West the memorial is dedicated to lost submarines and their Brave Crews also know how to have fun they certainly do David Tony Cabrera you are with one of these impressive gentlemen I love these cars that the Shriners come out with Gene describe these cars and tell us a direction of Alfredo Arroyo Alex Medina and Jorge Vargas let's listen in as they make their way down show off their impressive skills wearing their traditional Charro costumes and they're joined by the traditional Banda or brass band that we will be seeing making its way down this is where we see this every year the horses literally dance and they're so beautifully trained and beautifully groomed and there they are performing for the crowd and it's a tradition here at the Fourth of July parade and you know a tornate specialized clothing it's all combined to what makes a man a chato the parade happy fourth fantastic great to hear from them Irene and uh we have more folks coming up with the parade route let's go to Tony Cabrera hey the Red Cross American Red Cross is here and there's a special donor who's driving this vehicle right now uh Duggar Anderson and he has donated more blood than his body weight which is incredible tell us why that's so important nearly two times people need blood all the time I think only three percent of those qualified to donate blood actually do donate blood and then with the Red Cross only two people out of ten come back for a second donation so donate blood because it's red white right and you I love that great way to put it yeah thank you so much thanks for uh doing what you do happy fourth there you have it I don't know what he said red donate because your blood is red blue and O positive something like that David well look the message is super super important donate blood we always talk about it on the news and that is often there are we're short and and we definitely needed is life-saving and it's something to keep in mind if we have the wherewithal to do it please donate absolutely us we'll be right back [Music] foreign welcome back to the 4th of July parade in Huntington Beach there's so much going on here today it started at 7 A.M with the annual pancake breakfast provided by the local Kiwanis Club in Lake Park early this morning and now we have the parade rolling down Main Street but there is another big Fourth of July event happening later tonight and that is the spectacular fireworks show over the ocean that's right the fireworks they're shot from the end of Huntington Beach pier which is of course located at Maine and Pacific Coast Highway and the fireworks can be seen for many miles along the coastline and the fireworks spectacular beginning ends at 9 00 PM the colorful display will go on for 23 minutes with more than 1300 rounds of fireworks including a sensational 40-second finale that will have 500 rounds of fireworks so it is going to draw a very big crowd so if you want to get out here get out here early to get your Prime viewing spots yeah that's going to be fantastic so it's kind of bookends here this parade being at the beginning of the day and then the fireworks being the end of the day and here we go Colleen this group is here every year it's part of their tradition it is so fabulous and huge and colorful it's actually a gentle exercise and meditation fractions that emphasizes truthfulness compassion and tolerance for complete health and well-being it's deeply rooted in ancient Chinese culture falun dafa was introduced to the public by Mr Lee Hong Jr the practice quickly spread because of its Universal principles and proven health benefits nowadays fleundafa is practiced by over a hundred million people and more than a hundred countries around the world the people who practice fulundava come from every Walk of Life as it transcends cultural social economic and National boundaries in Southern California there are weekly exercise sites and a neighborhood Workshop where everyone is welcome to come and learn the exercises always free of charge you know what I love about this colleena this is a perfect example of how their participation in this parade helps teach and helps us learn I'd never heard of this before but we've been doing this parade for the better part of a decade now they're here every year and we read and talk about what this exercise form is and you know we've come to learn about it thanks to their participation oh I agree with you David and every time they come through we always watch and it was sort of you can't help but Marvel and they are very peaceful it's very gentle you know it's a wonderful practice that they do and they practice I love this the float that they have created as well they're kind of doing their meditation their yoga but they also have a surfer going on by and they're always so brightly uh and colored you know they always wear these bright colors often Golds and yellows and oranges and they really pop in this parade scene they do and I think this does trigger a lot of Talk Amongst the crowd here to see what they're doing I bet this has inspired a lot of people to take on this practice I I certainly wish I would do this more it is really interesting to see yeah it is fantastic and a huge group at that I'm trying to see what this sign is that is the chinello's Traditions originated in the late 19th century in a small town within the state of Morelos of Mexico the tradition was born as a result of the oppression from Spaniards living in Mexico roughly 50 years after Mexico gained its independence as many Spaniards stayed behind they also kept their Traditions such as carnivals and parties exclusively from Mexican natives as many young Mexican natives grew tired of being excluded they organized by dressing up with old clothes or covering their mouth with a handkerchief and wooden masks they would disrupt the carnivals by yelling whistling and jumping making their own celebration well today the Chanello's tradition has spread throughout the United States and is often performed in Quinceaneras weddings birthday parties and many more the chinellos of Oakview is a local group in Huntington Beach and always gets the crowd up and dense during the 4th of July parade as they go on by you can hear them right by us look how colorful that is so that's that is such a wonderful tradition of this that has led now to the Fourth of July parade [Music] thank you [Music] it is electrifying to hear them right next to us David they are such an enthusiastic group of kids and adults making their way down Main Street talk about energy with energy colorfulness I love the giant feathers in the gaps they are I love watching them let's go to Irene Cruz now with another special guest Irene hey you guys I'm here with Andrew and his family there from Garden Grove and the parade is almost finished what have you enjoyed the most so far oh all of them they've been great performances the dancing horses we will always like those and who are your little ones uh this is my son Troy my daughter Samantha and my oldest daughter Maggie are you guys having fun on this Fourth of July yeah yeah okay what's your favorite thing about the holiday [Music] like the princess I love the princess oh the princess she says the princesses of course well thanks so much you guys hope you have a great rest of the parade and the holiday you guys having fun [Applause] we all are having fun Irene and now to close out the 119th Huntington Beach parade Fourth of July parade Surf City Seoul in their traditional spot at the end please sound off for our very own Huntington Beach High School Oiler Color Guard band and cheerleaders they are proud to participate in this Hometown parade again this year this is their 25th year participating and they're under the direction of Greg Gilbo let's listen for a moment [Music] fantastic that is uh the Huntington Beach High School band at Color Guard there they go and that closes out our parade for today thank you for joining us for today's Fourth of July parade at Huntington Beach and a quick shout out to Sound Skills and our brain partner Stacy Newton Hoffa for helping us set all this up absolutely we couldn't do without doubt
