Brothers Bought Abandoned House - Portugal, FULL RENOVATION - TIMELAPSE Start to Finish

if you've been watching my videos you'll  know exactly what this one's going to be   about for those of you that are new welcome  ah the village house rural Algarve Portugal   I bought the house with James my brother in  February 2022 with the intention of selling   it and renovating it ourselves took us 18 months  we only finished it recently took quite a while   but there was a lot of work they needed to do  into it because it was pretty run down almost   a ruin but I think we managed to retain a lot  of the character and give it a new lease of   life we did most of the work ourselves a little  help at the very beginning from a friend and   James's wife Christina I'll let you have a look  at it now starting to finish very little talking thank you [Music] [Music]   foreign [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] foreign foreign [Music] at this stage we were getting pretty excited  because we were seeing some change very rapidly   we've got a very tight deadline and budget in  order for us to meet that deadline however we   thought it was necessary to get some guys  in to help us with the jobs that we don't   really want to do that being the rendering of  the outside of the house and the roof itself   unfortunately things don't always go with a  plan the first guys came in not saying they   did a bad job but we just weren't convinced  with what they were doing so we jogged them   on we then had another guy come and help us we  jogged him on and then someone offered to give   us a hand that lasted a day and we decided  let's just come to a grinding halt with this   we're going to save ourselves money by doing it  ourselves but unfortunately add a little bit of   time well quite a lot of time to the deadline  however it was important just to touch up a few   areas and finish some of the little jobs that  were being done at that point and then come   back to it a little bit later when we're more  focused we're one thing at a time [Applause] yeah at this point it kind of dawned on us that we  were going to have to render the entire house so   we weren't really enjoying the little bits  that we were doing very little experience   James he was having a little bit of problems  with anything sticking to the walls at this   point he was just letting his hair down here  it did stick eventually but it's a little   bit unconventional we'll fill the wheelbarrow  back up with all the stuff that's on the road there you go that's it hard flick [Music] thank you [Music] yeah you don't want a belt as well thank you foreign [Music]   thank you [Music] foreign foreign [Music]   thank you thank you [Applause] this is the most exciting  bit so far getting rid of this no more sore heads two down one to go foreign [Music] [Applause] foreign foreign foreign okay [Music] all right [Music]   foreign [Music] [Music] [Music]   what's up it's better than a gym workout [Music] okay right we have got I reckon because it is 20  past 11 in the morning and I've gauged this   because we've already come up past the  chimney about one hour and 10 minutes to   get that completely filled up that's a little  Challenge and if I win then that Legend James   are going to buy me a coffee if I lose I'll  have to buy them A coffee but this is going   to be so fantastic to get it done right now I  can't tell you I'm a little bit over excited   that I shouldn't be but the relief I think  this is more than anything else because this   is something that we've been dreading for so  long so anyway yeah that's how we all thank you foreign well done thank you thank you I'll see if I can show you this clearly  there's a line there going all the way around and that is going to be our floor line [Music]   um foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] really  we want to finish this part over here so   that we've got that whole section coming down  the roof completed and then we can play around   with it and we've worked out really well it  just goes to show it pays off to put all that   effort in at the very beginning because you  just put a spirit level on this and it is   slightly going down so all the water is going  to go in this direction so that worked out   pretty good so you know when I was rendering  this I was covering over the concrete pile I   was just blending it into this lower section  because this actually although it's a little   bit wavy was in good condition and you're  not going to see this it's only going to   be from above my hand here to the underside  there that you're going to see and even then   it's only going to be when you're up a ladder  so I wanted to make sure that across here was   really well finished and smooth and blending in  nicely with the bit that I did last week [Music] thank you you looks really good doesn't it that  is so satisfying getting that done I can't   tell you how much we've been looking forward  to getting this all sorted out ah beautiful   so both of those columns are poured now next  week we'll take the boards off and we just   need to get a support being going across  the top there and we had to leave this   little section down here because the wood  itself goes right down into the ground and   if we pour concrete around it we'll never  get the boards out so we left just enough   space there so when we take the boards out we  can put the concrete in and foreign [Music] when it came to the plastering inside pretty  much every wall has two and sometimes three   base coats followed by two and sometimes three  top coats depending on the uh the wall itself   and how rough it was I think we managed to  get it as flat as we possibly could but we   wanted to retain as much of the character  as possible so we weren't that interested   in getting rid of all the waves we just wanted  it as smooth as possible lots and lots of coats [Applause] thank you perfect [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Applause] [Music] thank you [Music] thank you [Music] step one complete we've got our trench  for the conjure which is going to feed   electricity into that room so now I can  build this framework get that step sorted out foreign [Applause] thank you [Music] you can see around the flooring now James  has been putting a load of tape on the   floor which means we're getting ready  for the painting of the skirting boards   at the moment he's just doing a bit of  sanding getting all the filling sorted out   getting it good and smooth being  on his knees for quite a while [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] this door in the end took quite a  while but we tried to use where we   could everything that was from the  original House in this case the door   being such an awkward size we would have  had to have ordered another one and had   it handmade so it made perfect sense to do  this way an order glass and do it ourselves oh well you know what I'm not going to beat My Own   Drum but we have finished and I think  it looks pretty good the editing and   that really felt like 18 months on its own  sitting down for all those days and hours oh   yeah you know what though that house was a  ruin when we bought it and I'm really proud   of the end result that's going to last decades  and decades and decades and someone hopefully   is going to really enjoy it thanks to detlef  who helped us out in the early stages with all   the lugging about Christina James's wife we're  back here next oh we're not there's a courtyard   still almost forgot about that one couldn't get it  into this video so it is going to be the next one
