hey everybody welcome back to the channel of course going to be reviewing the bronco in this episode which is covered in some snow right now because it went from being 62 yesterday to with wind chill this morning about 12. uh big weather change moved in and then of course the next couple days it's gonna be back up in the 60s so my plan is uh this first part of the video we're gonna go ahead and give you kind of a general idea of how it does offer get some impressions on that and then once that warmer weather gets here i'll do kind of a walk around give you the facts and stats show you uh some of the key features and things like that but right now i'm going to use my improvised snow removal device get some of this snow off of here get some gas get some breakfast head over to meet some people we're going to be wheeling with today oh yeah that's working well got the bronco cleaned off of snow we're heading down here to the slade exit we're gonna meet up with some other people to do a little wheeling so on the way down last night uh it took us about two and a half three hours to get down here yep they're doing the there's a snow truck right there doing a great job and i'll go over this in more detail as far as systems on the bronco but i put it into the goat mode of 4a or i think it says slippery when actually comes up here it's kind of an all-wheel drive mode i guess or it senses what it needs to do on its own it worked really well felt really firm planted to the ground even in spots we were getting you know ice i had to stop at one point not the ice off the front of the bronco the lights were completely encased uh with ice and just couldn't see anything in front of us but no problems whatsoever in that mode handled it great so our lineup location this morning is the slade welcome center here um got some people going with us we got a bunch of traffic here in the uh in the parking lot this morning we're gonna be lining up with some folks could be a little crowded but we'll make do have some fun this morning see you all here is uh shown up and we will go from there soon we were surrounded by many non-broncos we are finally on the road got everybody organized back there at trail lineup to get in the right group i think we've got about 12 vehicles with us behind us this morning uh it has cleared it is a bright sunny day it is i think still 26 degrees out so it's kind of cold still i'm sure that might have effect on batteries and radios and all that kind of stuff before out there hoping the trailer we're going to be on is in good shape i'm expecting some ice it's one we've run before nothing too difficult again this is a 101 group that we're going out with today but the snow should definitely add a little bit of extra challenge on it [Music] it is gorgeous out here snow wheeling today absolutely beautiful day i can't believe it was 62 degrees yesterday so driving here just a little bit uh knee-jerk reaction it feels pretty stable on everything we've gone on so far which is again it's not a difficult trail by any means uh but the vehicle feels stable compliant the tires seem to be doing a good job and again the nice thing about this is you know you can get this from the factory 35s on which is fantastic and of course with down here we've got the big trail camera which is great you can kind of see i don't recommend driving by it but certainly if you're not sure what's in front of you you can kind of get a little bit better idea with in addition that trail camera isn't just a one trick pony you can have multiple views including this one on the right which is a 360 view around the vehicle which comes in very handy [Music] so this next section on the trail allowed us to go ahead and do some very unscientific comparisons between the broncos independent front suspension and the jeep behind me with its solid axle so as i come up here i didn't even know i had lifted a tire until i was told it felt very secure and stable from inside the vehicle nice yeah as the person in the vehicle behind me was new to off-roading i went ahead and spotted them up and i try to keep them on the same line as i perceive the bronco and over just to kind of make some kind of unscientific comparison between them a little bit that way right there keeps humming you're good good keep coming nice and steady momentum you're good as you can see here the jeep also with its solid axle lifted the tire in roughly the same spot but was still very stable as it went through this section certainly lots of other factors to consider but i'll let you all draw your own conclusions from this after this quick dip through some very cold water we're back on the trail ride to enjoy the scenery again [Music] hard to tell from the video but this is a moderately steep off-camber drop to the passenger side and i've driven several vehicles through the spot and guided several vehicles from the spot and you'll actually see the entire rear suspension really flex out as the bronco goes down this and i have to say of all the vehicles that i've driven down here and spot down here by far the bronco did this the smoothest of all of them before we knew it we reached the final obstacle on the trail ride this one is known as simply the little waterfall because it's a well little tiny waterfall it also is the only place that the bronco got momentarily hung up a little bit i think this was due to a couple things one i was going really slower than i should have been the rocks were extremely wet and two i think the short wheelbase played into this a little bit now i was tempted to go ahead and throw in reverse and hit it just a little bit harder than i had the first time here i decided to see if the tires could find traction and eventually they did so that is going to do it for the uh trail ride portion of our testing it was a great day out here we had a great group of people with us um even with the snow i think it upped the difficulty a little bit but not so the point that it was too difficult for these beginner folks who are out here and certainly i think the bronco performed admirably in those conditions we were in up next we're going to go ahead and get back on hard surface here gas up air up the vehicle get something to eat and then head for home oh and if you're wondering exactly how much ice this thing had on it well most of this was from the night before on the drive down but certainly some of it from the splashing through the creeks and mud puddles there was just a ton of ice covering this thing amazing soon we were back on the road headed home overall the driving experience of the bronco is pretty pleasant it's a good driver position the seats are comfortable i can see well out of all the windows the ecoboost four cylinder provides plenty of power made it to the automatic transmission i never felt i needed more power to pass or merge into traffic either on the way down or on the way home thus overall i thought the power to weight ratio was really in line with the vehicle's size if you're considering the four-door model maybe consider getting the larger engine just for a little bit extra power because you're gonna have more people and gear and stuff in here [Music] so nice weather has finally rolled back into the area was able to take a bronco over the car wash the other day get all the dirt and grime from the trail off of it and any remaining of that ice stuff that was kind of on it as well so one of the things i want to do is actually go over how this particular one is built to give you an idea exactly what it has so again this is a badlands edition it comes with a lot of nice features i'm just going to kind of read off the list here because that's easier than me trying to remember at all so we've got the equipment group 334 a and that is the badlands series this has the mid package in it it has dual zone climate controls in it the front row heated seats the power outlets and there are multiple power outlets through this thing uh it has the sync 4 enhanced voice recognition ford co-pilot 360. has the high package has the big 12-inch lcd touch screen up here has a 360 degree camera which we used on the trail and i really like that has the lux package adaptive cruise control it has the bno uh with the built-in navigation that is the speaker system has heated steering wheel and the wireless charging panel down here on the thing now the optional equipment on this according to the build sheet here we've got the 10-speed automatic of course with the sas watch package we upgrade to the 35-inch tires we got remote start we have the 17-inch black aluminum bead lock alloy rings it has 4.7 gears and that is fantastic with the engine uh the engine in this the the 2.3 liter is putting out 300 horsepower and approximately 325 foot-pounds of torque that's when you run it on high test gasoline if you switch down to 87 those numbers drop to 275 and 315 if i remember correctly which is still pretty good in the two-door i can definitely tell you this thing is very spirited i hit that accelerator a few times getting on on-ramps uh just trying to take some back roads to see how it would do very very lively uh with that power band in there uh when built had a base price of forty two thousand ninety five dollars we add everything up according to ford on this one when it was built was 53 660 at the time it was built so from there let's talk a little bit more about the engine as far as mpg and what you can expect according to the epa site from what i could gather you're looking around 17 or 18 miles per gallon with this engine and this tire combination on it that being said we did better than that in our fuel test in fact on the way down i had it in all-wheel drive four wheel drive 4a down here on the control and we got 19.7 miles per gallon on our roughly three hour drive down about 170 miles is what we covered in that time frame very happy with that um i would think if we had not been in 4a and just in regular two-wheel drive and it was a non-windy day non-stormy day we would we've seen the low 20s maybe another couple miles per gallon better than that well let me go ahead and give you a quick overview of what you're going to find the dash layout up here things are placed very nicely easy to see easy to reach and all those types of things of course we got the center touch screen right here got the gps up got some trip information over here as well down here you've got your hvac controls and some secondary radio controls down here now down here on the center console next to your gear selector you have your goat mode selector of course right now we're in too high you can select four low or four high this is your off-road kind of uh cruise control if you will right here you can set that some neat features with that as well it will maintain a certain speed and you can even go ahead from what i understand and start and stop by using your gas pedal if you set that up correctly you don't have to use your brake the more you push on the gas pedal it'll go a little faster when you release the gas pedal it will start to slow down and eventually even stop when i understand now here we had 4a this is what i was in coming down on the whole entire trip down in the ice and the wind it did really well puts it in all-wheel drive mode never felt any slippage or anything like that now when you turn this down here up on the dash is where you see the different modes and we can go kind of go through these here eco slippery mud and ruts sand baja and all those things let me put it in rock crawl mode to show you what this does so right now it's giving the instructions to shift into neutral so we are in neutral and it's shifting into four wheel drive [Music] and giving me an audible alert that the uh sways sway bars disconnected for lack of a better word but it will reconnect after 20 miles per hour and then up here on this control panel up here are where all those features are we've got our sway bar here this is the button for the front locking differential it automatically puts the rear locker in and this over here is uh the rear wheel dig it will lock the inner wheel that you're turning on so you can turn tighter uh with that and then you have your traction control over here and then when you go into four wheel drive low mode down here on the big touch screen it brings up your front camera so you can see what's going on with that so pretty cool with that of course this is a push button start down here and then over here we've got our dash layout over here let me bring the camera in a little bit closer and again i don't have this running that's why you're seeing some of the warning lights up right now but you've got your analog speedometer over on the left hand side and then your digital display there in the center and you can adjust that display however you want to you can go ahead and have different things for example i can bring up the oil temperature if i want to uh the boost and all that and then i can just go to a general menu and select other things should i want them there from audio and all that i left it on this one mostly while i was driving uh but you can go ahead and get as fancy or as you know not fancy as you want to be with those dash controls so in case you're wondering about rear cargo space well let's take a look back here there's actually quite a bit of room and i've got a suitcase back here and a backpack with some stuff just to kind of give you a sense of portion of how big this is and i definitely could fit another suitcase or two back here depending on how i packed it uh when we were off-road actually had a tool bag back here a smoke air compressor uh as well some recovery gear and a suitcase actually um as well because we checked out the hotel that morning we went on the trail ride and of course drove home it fits pretty well i think groceries are going to be fine back here a good amount of those and of course if you need additional space either both or individual seats can pull forward for more space so one other question i had i had my kids with me this weekend they're helping out with the camera you may have noticed there a little bit and they're kind of in and out of the back seat pretty easy but i wondered how easy is it for an adult to get in and out so let me find that out and show you guys right now so to get into the back seat pretty simple process you got a lever up here on the seat here and i usually just pull this under seat adjustment and it slides the seat forward and you can just go ahead and get right in so good question would be how comfortable is it back here in the back seat for an adult i'm about five foot seven i've got plenty of room back here i've got cup holders the seats are comfortable i've got a lot of light i don't feel like i'm boxed in any capacity if you need to i can reach back in here to the cargo area and get something maybe i've got a lunch bag back there or something else i need to grab out easy and convenient with that i've got a good amount of headroom up here again 5'7 so use that with a grain of salt how much room you've got back here legs have plenty of room i've got power adapters down here so if i need to have my phone on or some other device i've got room for that as well so overall yeah not too bad back here in the back seat take it out push and you're good to go here's a quick look at those goodyear territory mt's that come on this sasquatch package overall i would call these a mildly aggressive mud terrain tire they are sipe which helps in wet conditions on the road as well as off-road to grip and grab stuff and again as i said before you are going to get a little road feedback with these because they are a mud tire and have a larger lug to them as i only got to spend a few days driving the bronco i can't tell you if it's all cake and ice cream however what i can tell you is so far i've only found three things to nitpick let's dive in first off was the lack of being able to find an actual digital numeric reading for the engine coolant temperature you would think there'd be one in all these menus and sub menus but i just couldn't find one if actually one exists what you have instead is this little bar graph down below the speedometer c of course for cold h for hot as you can see the little light there above the sea more of those lights will go ahead and display as the engine gets warmer but again i'm going to guess as this is a modern engine and most modern engines run hot until the fans kick in and cool it down ford didn't want to go ahead and have to worry about people seeing engine temperature swings of 20 or 25 degrees back and forth being cooler than warming up and the fans cooling them back down so that kind of makes sense i understand this one next we go underneath the vehicle where ford has done a really good job of protecting the vital systems the only area i would have liked to see a little bit more care taken to was the transmission cover pan while i'm sure this thing is made out of some uber polymer that can support 20 times the weight of the vehicle i still worry about going into that muddy mucky mud hole and not know if there's a rock or some kind of stick that's going to come up and put a hole through this thing again just something to be aware of last on the list are these front recovery points you may have noticed in the off-road section of this video i had some bow shackles attached to each of these areas that's because well there wasn't really a way to hook up a tow strap is these really aren't toe hooks it's a closed loop system if you want to look at it that way attaching a bow shackle to it i guess in an emergency you could probably shove the looped end of a recovery strap through the slot in the back here and then you know feed it through itself not really designed to have a strap work like that but it would work in a pinch if you had no other options again just something to be aware of so if i had to sum up my overall thoughts about driving the bronco for the last several days i would do it like this this vehicle allowed me to go ahead and take my family through a pretty bad ice and snow storm safely uh it got us to our destination the next morning we were able to go up and go four-wheeling with a group of friends and new friends um while the trails we were on weren't that challenging they were still fun and there were some obstacles along the way that you know were a little more challenging this thing handled without any problems and i'm definitely convinced it can handle much harder obstacles out there if that's what you like to wheel it then brought us home nice and safe and sound i think ford has done a really nice job with this and if you are thinking about getting a new four-wheel drive vehicle that can get you out there and get you back definitely take a look at the new ford bronco i think it's going to be up there pretty high on your list of possibilities anyway that is going to do it for this episode if you have any questions be sure to put them down below i'll do my best to answer them and also do all that stuff you're supposed to do down below so you don't miss any future episodes until next time i hope you have a great day i look forward to seeing you on the trail you
