the Victorians were obsessed also a pioneer in the in the

this and spinsters and widows Henry Petite was a rather
successful Victorian actor in playwright. He was just 44 when
he died and his graves an of here by the royal parks. But
also assisted by the friends of Tower. It's a little prison
cell in there. Now let's just lot of filming of that in the
East End actually right around Emily herself was imprisoned in
well prisons all over London died right before equal rights
were voted in for both men and right. The equal rights for
women ehm alongside men didn't over here and us ladies will be
thankful for her for eternity. right now and the Central
Avenue has some of the most the time by the way. He thinks
I'm gonna feed him. Watch him. London as was a poor sanitation
and lack of fresh water. So and you know so essentially he
was trying to explain to them that by drinking this water
they were infecting themselves disabled the water pump but
people didn't believe him cuz the birth of two of her nine
children. So Doctor John Snow by a cespit underground. So,
essentially fecal matter was people's homes of course and
the water had become infected I'll do a little short as well
to show you the actual water And that centred around an
water pump actually which is slightly on my Soho tour and
one of the other tours ladies and some of my virtual tours
but we'll head back there and located on Broadwick Street in
Soho. Now I do feature this started to map where the most
serious cases were occurring. lives is very very close to
Doctor Golding who was in fact tragic tragic tale of the
Golding family. It just shows perfumery etcetera. So she was
the one that actually supported very very sad they both lost
nine children ladies and gents. she is. Sarah Pellerin Golding.
Um the interesting hers that reference to her here. See if
we can get her name. Yeah there gonna walk further down in a
few minutes and we'll come to you no matter how powerful,
rich and educated you are. You impossible to get through all
of them. But what I will do is Londoners ladies and gents as
an oasis of calm and peace in of high gates, Brompton which
we're entering right now, the famous catacombs. So this
was recently opened this part right here in front of you is
the Central Avenue. But we're the Great Circle which was
modelled on the Piazza at Saint do. They really take advantage
of this incredible space. It's some of the most historical
figures in British history and job. They are volunteers and it
is home and the resting places also managed by the friends of
Highgate who do a wonderful and Tower Hamlets. Now we have
visited Highgate as previously flooding the ehm graves which
were bursting at the seams Christmas Day, Good Friday and
Ascension Day. The public are came about in London. Now the
Magnificant seven compromised would literally body barts
would be washed down the Now infancy infant mortality
rates were exceptionally high incurable diseases at the
whooping cough, typhoid fever, at the time. So not only was
there no space for the living, the factories and on the
railways bringing with them local parish cemeteries were
becoming massively overwhelmed of people were becoming
infected with all types of result of the industrial
revolution and thousands and Seven in the early 1800s here
in London. There was mass be a doctor and he did become a
very impressive doctor was quite a flat boring
underground. So they needed the middle of a busy metropolis
and people come here to paint Doctor Golding in his pursuit
and his career. So she fascinating that are in the
cemetery. Some of you'll be my attention immediately. Look
at that stunning mausolea. This Hospital. He was one of the
directors of the hospital. But and sometimes just have lunch
and have a cup of coffee. So Nine of their children died
predecessed them. So a very University. He came down here
and he was actually in the end quite a popular place to come
but I wanna start off with one gonna have a little reverse
back here. There's a stunning she was a wealthy very wealthy
businesswoman. Uh she owned a Peter's Basilica in Rome. And a
beautiful chapel at the end and 40 acres. There are thirty 5000
no 205, 000 people buried here I'll narrow it down to the 10 I
found to be most intriguing and here. Um in the last I believe
three years or so. So it's a The cemetery is open from half
past one o'clock on Sunday's dead. And this is when the
magnificent seven cemeteries obviously the water was full of
bacteria, cholera epidemics permitted to walk in the
cemetery daily. And indeed they were commonplace. There was no
sewage thousands and thousands there was even more lack of
space for the dead. Now the massive slums. In fact some of
the worst third world slums very different place than it is
today. Looking for work in the thousands of people so flocked
to London in seek of work in he was responsible for the
opening up of Chiringcross actually. What I do want to
mention though which I find is the family tomb of a chap
called Benjamin Golding. And as familiar with some maybe not so
much. But this one first drew you'll see right cited MD
Medical Doctor. Now Benjamin essentially well supported the
family while he was training to of the more famous tombs here.
Now there are several of them coffee shop etcetera. So it's
very much a working cemetery something special to attract
the wealthy and the mausolea and it's hard to figure out how
you would negotiate the entire underachiever ehm in my own
personal life than the but a cemetery for the and the
dead and it's used a lot by learn about. Nothing makes you
feel like more of an about her. But the architect
Benjamin Board initially this one in particular blows my mind
and we'll be speaking a lot I'm gonna talk to you about
quite a few of them and what's as well in the Victorian Times.
So immediately something needed places I have ever seen. But
this is the old inscription. mentioned and that's possibly
one of the most beautiful Parks in London. So effectively
property of the crown but its the only royal park ehm
cemetery managed by the Royal known to humanity were in
London at the time. Now to be done. Cos there was
literally no room to bury the skies all contributed to a
massively high mortality rate. the founding father of the
science of epidemic so I'm just his wife actually I just wanna
see if we can see a little and be creative and people come
here just to reflect to pray speaking of which one man who
saved millions and millions of and 35, 000 tombs and monuments
and mausoleaums. So it's and the tombs that they were
hoping people would build. Now cannot escape in Victorian
Times infant mortality. Now Golding was originally trained
as a doctor in Edinburgh Victorians and I will be
speaking to you about famous Egyptologists, doctors,
scientists, ehm fashionistas, quite amazing about this place
is that the more research I do the more incredibly interesting
and diverse range of people I streets of London. So decay and
bacteria and heavily polluted Kensington Green Cemetery,
Nunhead, Norwood, Abney Green and in extreme heavy rain
there's even stories of during syphilis was quite common
place, influenza was a killer fashionistas, the inspiration
for Galiano and several of has been involved in cemeteries
and walking amongst the graves welcome to the channel by the
way check out our other colonades, catacombs,
underground tombs, beautiful medics. The were over
achievers. The Victorians. feel like an underachiever.
Ladies and gentlemen, we've the outskirts of London. This
is Brompton Cemetery. West guide you through this amazing
place. Now, it's smaller than still some very famous people
buried in here. Scientists and that is the stunning Highgate
