BRITISH VS. AMERICAN ENGLISH CHALLENGE

[Music] hey guys it's Paige welcome back to my channel so I just got done playing tourist in central London and went to Tower Bridge all of that okay where am I going with this so even before I moved to London I really want to do a British versus American themed video so step one was to find a British person and I've done that so I can finally do this video scandle people did a video with me in Jamaica my friend Mike also known as J so Mike has a YouTube channel as well you want a selfie about your channel yeah the channel schooled the shout and we just discuss whatever is going on in the world today it's a topic or base channel and we discussed that relationships and things like that so it's a good stuff on there do you think that marriage is for coming update the wedding day is more for you than this fuss I love love Jane I love it somewhat what's on what is it then well first of all the marriage it doesn't you know that I'm gonna be having kids until I'm married a marriage want to discuss some the topics that you guys touch her it gets pretty interesting on there and mike has some interesting opinions as well so yeah I brought Mike on my channel today I finally found a British friend guys we're going to do a British versus American themed video and I feel like we probably will do multiple videos like this but today we're just gonna start with words I think words because since I moved here what kinda new just from visiting but especially since I moved here I have learned that there are so many words that we say differently not just you know the way you pronounce it but some things we just call them completely different names it's really strange so I want to share with you guys like what I've been learning over here it's pretty funny I must say so I actually have some photos on my phone when I go through the photos we're gonna look at them together and then we're going to just say the word that comes to mind when we see the photos what we would call the item in the photo okay that's what I'm trying to say so as we look at the photos they will pop up on the screen for you guys so you can follow along okay cuz I'm just been nice here's the first show me to the first so I would say these are called pants Aussie trousers trousers trousers okay okay number two what would you call these trainers however because I'm from South London we've got different ways we say that so crepes [Music] so anyone there who sorry there anyone in youtubeland he was not from England and has never heard the word crepes if you go in a sneaker store so if you go to Foot Locker or wherever whatever that the top sneaker shops are where you're from look for CREP protect it's like a spray protector for your trainers and the word CREP just me trainer trainer protected so I wouldn't call it a CREP wouldn't call it a trainer I will call this a gym shoe you say sneakers so exactly what I prefer so we have to give a disclaimer as well like we're going to be speaking from our own personal experience like what we say so in America yes there are majority people who would probably call these sneakers but I have never called it a sneaker in my life you say Jim always said Jim Shannon what's the people from Chicago called them Jimmy yeah you don't say sneakers no I'm speaking from from me guys so no Chicago wins you know try coming me I just know that I've always said Jim shoe or I were just calling by the specific name of the shoe okay but I would never say that was just an American thing running English trainers crepes is a bit more of a London kind of thing Bakker is a trainer fair okay what would you call it elevate lift so what I found from being here you guys are so literal about everything like yeah I don't know like we have names for something you guys just say exactly what it what it is like there's no like okay I called him chips however if you go in the shop and on like on the menu who say french fries because because that's what they are it's just I should tell you why so watch it's their french fries so watch it these these are potato chips crisps Christmas where you guys will get that from why would you call the crisp maybe yeah maybe the sound why is it called a Chris Chris potato chips now who's being neutral no potato chips potato yeah but I feel like Chris is a bit more like it's more like I think it's more to do the sound rather than like you know anything next that is this is a sweater a jump-off just another one that just doesn't make sense I would say jump off I think some people here would probably say swear as well but this is the job whatever what about like a sweatshirt let me know what a sweatshirt is like a sweater is like that but like a sweatshirt is like like well this is the hoodie but like this without the hood what that material all right I think some people to call that what this yeah don't even it's like the same as this jump see we have two different words that will be like a sweatshirt and this is a sweater that's a jump of me or how some people say top but jumper is more what we would like a line a line is a line that is not a line straight people 100% 110% nice acute but I have to say you know if I take it back any words from here I do like the word cue and I like the word lift I think those are cute okay with them I slowly okay what you got would you guys quit a popsicle okay so wait wait where are popsicles stored in the freezer and therefore say lots of is liquid and it turns into ice right and it's a lolly because you lick it ice lollies see it makes sense that's just not what it is it's a popsicle bar you know like an icicle but that makes most importantly I don't know what a pop next garbage rubbish but that's my third favorite we're guys I'm going to start saying rubbish because actually like I can just be like men are rubbish that's enough II know I just you guys I don't even understand where they get the words from like who will sat down and I don't know how it will we big nappies nappy yeah that might be a little examples of it a petrol station a gas station what what is that okay no but this is an interesting one what is the what are you pumping into your car gas your place I have a diesel that's what it is yes what ha no but I want to know how that is like we don't ask any questions they told us it was in your car just thought we put petrol alcohol I have never heard anyone come from that I know in the US a petrol petrol yeah it's a gas station and we pump gas unleaded petrol car how to put gas in my car gas station cinema movie theater in Chicago we might say the show like we're going to the show as a cinema no and what would you watch you so you wouldn't say you're watching a movie what's the film you guys it's a film you're gonna tell me you're gonna look at me and say that's watching a movie about your film at a cinema see so cinema is not a word you use at all no unless movie movie I mean like fancy for no reason like we're going to the movie theater that is a cinema what are these people on deck chairs no like oh the beach no change so for me it looks like this before on vacation a beach vacation holiday holiday is like Christmas Valentine's Day what do you call those holidays okay so when you go on vacation how's that holiday when we go on vacation how was that everything solid eh when you have time off what is holiday excuse me when you have time off what is a holiday that is a holiday it looks hella fancy as well so to me this would be called the hood of the bus the bonnet why do you laugh every time what about the back would you put it back the trunk okay the boot the boot of the car I don't know the trunk you will put it in the trunk I can kind of see why you would say the trunk like if you need something you can get it off the trunk well I say you get out the booth but we have black okay so here we have boot sales car boot sells car trunk sells just wouldn't have the same kind of ringg it would maybe it would actually maybe it would probably call it a boot sell I feel out yeah it sounds about as often woman I'm nervous about this one young this kind candy candy floss I knew that I know no one who America where is the force that don'ts the floss where's the floss I don't know I don't know candy floss and you guys quick cotton candy makes a lot more sense totally because it looks like you got one thank you you should be giving me Harlem because I know what you talking okay what would this place be a flat apartment Oh an apartment it's a flat and then here you guys say flatmates yeah a set of roommates you're not sharing like sheep have a room you have your own rooms yeah so why would they be what we're sharing room each other see this is how this is why if we're in an apartment right and we have individual rooms now we will meet okay come round I don't know maybe because it's not a house so they just call it a flat but we're not roommates if we're staying in the same room then we are roommates am i right man Sarah Lee but what happens I was this a fringe it's a fringe I know you guys say fringe as well surely know what do you say bangs what bang why is it back there she's wearing bangs what why would you call it a fringe friends are like like the fringe that like hang down like from your clothes and stuff those are fringes so aphr it nah fringes that is my only definition of a fringe I don't know I didn't know that they work with fringes to be completely honest ooh that's insane stroller from crayon know that word because I follow I subscribe to be blowing YouTube who are from like the UK and they say crammed and I was just like where does that come from late it's a stroller it's a Prem sometimes you're going to stroll with your baby yeah no I don't know but you don't go to prom with your baby it should be short for something okay so this might not apply for everyone back at home but I have always called this a basket but I know most people would say shopping cart at home but I call it a basket like me my mom will go into the store she be like and grab me a basket a trolley can we just take a moment just to a basket so what do you call them what the things that you pick up I will call that a basket - no difference in that I mean using both of them in a grocery store so no a shop in a shopping cart seems more because it caught me that it was called a basket and we're the only people to say that but it's a basket to mean I don't really say shopping carts it's a I definitely don't say trolley it's a trolley that works as well no so you park your car isn't it no come on we're gonna say the same thing for this one Shirley okay bathroom toilet the toilet is in the bathroom alright you're one well I get I think it does depend some people would say bar from I'd say I'm going to the toilet but it depends not in the bathroom there is off isn't it in the bathroom that's why it's called the bathroom yeah but you would still say that even like at restaurants or stuff you would say like okay so now actually if I was that like a restaurant I would probably say where is your restroom okay wrestler is no bad like you said there's no bathtub in a restaurant but yeah or a washroom that could work but I've never like just been like I need to go to the toilet that just seems like a little too much information but what I mean like he'll go into the toilet right now I have to pee uh you guys we gotta hurry up and wrap this up okay good yeah and we're back okay in the last one it's just a logo cuz I just think it's so funny how mike says it's worth I'm sorry um even though I'm pretty sure that we're the ones saying it wrong yep yeah adidas ID - no but you know why we're saying it right why because it's a German company yeah I've been told this story before and it's actually a DDoS because his name is Adi Dassler Adi Dassler that's he's like so short for that yeah but you there's not a deed a seller ID dislike some reason it came to America and we decided this was called Adidas and okay another one just before you yeah I mean Nike but I feel like Mackey all right so what is m-i-k-e-y what's that Mikey right so if mi ke is Mike what is ni ke Nike okay logic logic wins over everything they call it night we call it night because that's how it's spelt it's an American company and you guys pronounce it Nike so technically we should be pronouncing it Nike because that's how you guys want to be pronounced however it's spelt Emma Keaney mother and their literal AF remember that so that's what we are logical whatever alright so yeah it's getting a little too dark really um this was fun we have to do more it's just so interesting to hear how weird you talk I mean okay I think of
