private tony bethel and i'm an lmg gunner i'm private day i'm an anti-tank gunner i'm private clive bowman and i'm a mini miguel i'm last call with daniel monks i'm section commander of this rebel everyone knows what's going on around there nice open fields two sections of six platoons sea company one royal anglians are being tasked with keeping the taliban out of the village of kusal just 100 meters from their patrol base let's find out you'll soak up the atmospherics see what's going on around uh keep the eyes on the firing points as best you can especially you boys sharpshooters and we should hopefully pop out in front of the insurgents just after eleven along here i'll that's you go and get your kit ready and i'll see you on the hls in a few minutes chris we're uh all right load make ready they leave their base at 10 am the first man clears a route with a mine detector and they all follow his path the hazards of taliban improvised explosive devices ieds is so great that when they're fired on they still have to stick to this path they can't run for cover shortly after leaving the base they're fired on maybe just north of it lay she's prepared to move under uh we're gonna get covered some of the soldiers are particularly vulnerable because they're in open ground they move under covering fire to regroup in a safer place it two section and the other british soldiers operating in the area are supported by an overflying aircraft all right everyone stop firing stop firing just observe stop firing it never works when you want it so you know there you go what are you expecting now uh basically expecting to encounter attack not too sure it's going to go on though i mean his taliban sort of thing like they've got good good tactics i reckon you know i don't know how to hide where to sit you know what to look out for it's pretty good they moved to the side of the village to meet up with the soldiers who are supporting them with grenade launchers called gmgs how are you doing oh my god how's it going good to see you they've done a workout before we're going gonna place us on the way back i'll tell you what we're getting some accurate for uh we're running across that ground fire engine i don't want that sniper guy to leave that tower uh that that compound so when we get engaged from there yeah michael can you lay gmg behind it yeah so we hold him in there and then i'll put a javelin in finish him off he's a well-known sniper i saw ben said the other day as well he's good are you good is he yeah he's changing they head out again knowing the taliban are waiting for them the soldiers plan to kill the sniper using a shoulder-mounted rocket launcher known as a javelin going to move down here well we're going to wait for them to clear an irrigation ditch and we're going to lay there 5-10 minutes see if we can pick up enemy forces from there and then we'll push back in they move off they are now close to the taliban but don't know their exact location rocket smoke going in to avoid an ambush they send out a flare to trigger a taliban response right now six five four three two one rapid fire now irrigation ditch to the front as they move out the taliban shoot at them from a new location yeah yeah we'll do go the taliban response is much stronger than they expected they are now getting shot at from many directions gonna move off keep the spaces tight and move quickly move on let's go come on and somewhere in the north we're getting single shots uh very accurate uh also further tonight we're getting goes from five and two out to the east let's go ice on north out to northeast yeah rooftop are compounds they're still engaging us yeah got it there's a sniper they throw a grenade to protect their flank they're running back fellas we got the gympie yeah laid onto 11 and 9 from sanger ii also we've got uh the gpg made on to compact three three in one minute we're going to push our east right out the way the sangers and let the singers finish this engagement off anyone got any questions on what we're doing you're not moving you're shooting you
