Nice find. I’ve had the pleasure of hearing these 8-string hardanger fiddles live, & acoustic, at folk dances. They have a really unique ringing sound from the 4 extra resonating strings (which are under the fingerboard and so are not bowed or fingered; they just sort of “hum” softly under the main tune, just from resonance. (There’s a bunch of old Scandinavian folk dances where you go whirling around in these dizzying circles while the hardanger fiddle is playing. It gives this trance-like endless feel to the tune, and to the dance. Good memories) They always have the beautiful inlay & the carved neck. Gorgeous instruments.
I have never heard of an 8 string fiddle. I played violin for 9 years in school
Too bad they no one played it at the end of the video when it was brought back to life
Love this
