[Music] what's going on guys welcome back to the channel this week we are back on the 454. if you tuned in last time you saw that we got the truck running but there were still some things that we needed to sort out we had a external oil pressure regulator or gauge rather to make sure we had the right oil pressure we have a bunch of wiring that we still kind of needed to sort out we had our fuel pump running off a Power Probe so that's going to get finalized we're going to be looming up all these little wires floating around we're gonna be getting this thing outside getting our Holley sniper EFI runnable get some driving time on it we're going to be getting it on the dyno so we're excited to see what kind of numbers this thing is going to bring out we also have a special guest coming in town this week Brian from Poppy's patinas flying in from Oklahoma he's going to be helping me get the clear coat done on the truck as well as we're going to be spraying our bed line on this thing so we're going to get the bed on get it outside get some driving and do some burnouts for you guys foreign but surely we're about to reach 100 completion brought the truck outside so we can run it a little bit longer and we've got our instrument cluster back in so now we can monitor all the important vitals or temperature or oil pressure battery voltage it's all stuff we need to Monitor and I want to make sure that all the instrumentation is working and we don't want to kill ourselves with carbon monoxide so we're out here in the hot hot heat cool oh tool Mr Coupe [Music] oh yeah oh yeah you sound good [Music] it's called the cam dance finally that time test drive time about to take our first rip the fifteen hundred dollars party [Music] it was all good till it wasn't all right onion bearing we smoked okay that ain't nice oh stuck on the side of the road on our first test drive not too happy about it definitely not what I expected paint peeling off it got so hot completely stopped the rear wheels it's got a cover on with a gasket so I would assume that there was fluid in it but I know I didn't put the fluid in it and I'm pretty sure you don't yeah I did I didn't yeah if I didn't put the gasket on either yeah so find out soon enough we got it moving it's moving slowly and it's not happy but at least I don't have to Shell out 100 bucks for a tow it's the little things that make me feel better that plus that always puts a smile on your face so we're going back to the shop we're gonna have a couple cervezas what's up all right well we didn't quite make it we got real hot started locking up so found a hose so we're trying to cool it off maybe it'll get us that extra I don't know what do we like half a mile not even not even a quarter mile away from the shop [Music] [Music] thank you is there any fluid in there Khalil not a bunch of water in it that's because I was cooling it off with the garden hose the seal was so melted that it came right through the gasket on the rear cover the issue is it's got no fluid in it so lesson learned for all of us here at the shop hopefully we'll get away with changing some bearings and putting this thing back on the road so close in the process of uh dropping the rear end foreign got so hot that the race ended up coming off of the pinion so fortunately we're gonna need an opinion gear remember kids put fluid in your differentials so since we're now waiting on our new ring and pinion actually we went ahead and called quick performance they're sending out the whole kit and caboodle we went with the Eaton true track so we're upgrading it might as well do that while we have the chance so while that thing is sitting we're gonna move on to some of the Cosmetic work on the truck like the bed liner man we love that bed liner so much on that previous episode with Sergeant Square we're going to go ahead and do it on the bed for the 454 as well we're also going to be doing a full poppy patina clear coat everybody wanted us to paint this truck black but we decided to just leave it in its True Glory a lot of people think that the value in these trucks is keeping them you know OG so we're gonna go ahead and get this whole bed scuffed with a 120 grit we're not going to take it down to bare metal or anything we're just kind of scuffing it like this for the liner to stick down to it and then we'll go ahead and tape off everywhere that we don't want the bed liner to hit [Music] you got 90 percent of all the prep work done on our bed it is all taped off it has been sanded with the 120 grit we already did one wipe down with the wax and grease remover but the last step is we're going to give it one more wipe down if we want to make sure we get all that dust off you guys had a whole bunch of questions and comments when we did the bedliner on Sergeant square but instead of me trying to explain it and trying to answer a bunch of questions what I did was I brought in the man himself the legend Brian from Poppy's patina I'm excited to get going on this thing so like you said before we're going to give it one more wipe down with some classic grease remover I'm getting a bare metal spots we're gonna hit that with a little bit of primer and then we're going to get it going with our spray and truck bed liner we're doing this one in black right absolutely there was a lot of questions on what makes his product different than all the rest of them out there we got all your stuff out here everything that it takes to spray a bed liner so let's talk nuts and bolts here so with our spray and truck bed liner kit all of these cans are short filled so you'll notice on top of the can it says fill to bottom of thread so you're going to take the Catalyst you're going to fill this can up to the bottom thread right here you're going to put this lid back on it and then shake so once it's shaking up good mixed well that's when we're going to take the lid back off and then we're going to go on over to our applicator gun now the cool part about this applicator gun it comes with a kit but the the front half of it's disposable so once you've sprayed the liner and you're done with it this goes in the trash you've got a nice blow gun or something around the shop where when you get another bed liner kit you've got a gun ready to go you just pop on a new tip [Music] we're going to start mixing product up now and I just wanted to say you don't want catalyzed products sitting over there in the container so just mix it up as you go as you need it so that way it's not starting to set up prematurely in the can [Music] two or less older more experienced Guys shake like this some of the younger kids they like to shake it up like this [Music] foreign [Music] he's got his coverage coat all on we are already starting to tack up so at this point we are mixing up our texture coat and that's the fancy stuff so hit the tapes not coming off on your finger it's still tacky though so we're able to uh get our texture coat on there and make it look nice brochure it was about 50 pounds on the first run I'm gonna crank it up to about 60 65 PSI now just to make sure I get a good atomization just sprinkle out there set up on top thank you looks awesome now that our bed liner is sprayed we can focus on the 454 cab let's spray it on clear coat on this OBS truck so you know our claim to fame is our wipe on a clear coat and when we go to our spray-on clear coat the question I get asked the most is why can't I just use a traditional clear filter what's the difference between poppies spray on clear coat traditional clear coat the biggest difference of all is the fact that the traditional clear coat is formulated to have a chemical to chemical adhesion so there's a chemical in the base coat and there's a chemical the clear coat that lack each other that bond to each other our clear coat on the other hand is completely different it's formulated to have a mechanical adhesion it's formulated with resonance to be surface tolerant to stick to imperfect surfaces as patina so what we've got here is our spray-on clear coat it's a high gloss High solids clear coat it's the ratio is four to one so four parts clear coat one part catalyst [Music] [Music] all right so Brian just laid down our first coat and it already looks amazing that was a pretty light coat I mean you can just really tell the difference already it looks awesome so at this point he's going to let this set up for a couple more minutes and he's going to lay down a heavier coat and really get it thick on some of these patina areas we're trying to make it kind of look like the patina is inside of the clear coat as opposed to when you rub your hands on it you can still kind of feel it rough all right second coat is down it is looking glossy well that coat is setting I'm gonna go ahead and start prepping up our Hood [Music] all right the truck is done we got our Hood done as well looks great time to get the bed done so we got a little prep work to do here gonna pull off all the paper that we had on it for our bed liner which also looks amazing probably tape up a couple things we're gonna get some clear shot on this and then the next step is a wet sand and buff [Music] so this was something I was kind of wondering and I'm sure other people would question that if you could clear coat over your old decals I wanted to keep the original ones you know I asked Brian he said of course you could go right over that stuff you don't have to worry about it what's kind of cool with this truck is this side is completely original with the with the original decal then you jump onto the driver's side not as much patina really not much at all as you see here you got a gray decal over a red decal I kind of thought that was super cool it tells a story all right now that we got our truck all sprayed down and looking wet wet it's time to get this thing back together [Music] so our interior is pretty much buttoned up with some of these wires that are not landed yet we're for our fog lights and our cargo light that I deleted which kind of ended up being some kind of issue with just the overall loop I think for the ground so I was unable to find new switches and a couple guys on our YouTube channel uh mentioned a company called RZ Lite so they had the replacement switches for not only the cargo but also the fog light so here's the missing pieces to our interior so I hit up my boy at RZ lights he got these sent out to me he also got me brand new LED interior dome lights so I sent those out which also sent out a brand new lens so we got brand new LED lights that's definitely going to brighten up the cab I got a new center lens so we're gonna get rid of this old cloudy white one so certainly going to add some more light in here shout out to RZ lights with a z he's got all kinds of lighting upgrades for OBS trucks headlights brake lights all LED stuff hid we'll put a link in the description so let me get these in all right so Brian gets a lot of questions over at Poppy's patina if you could wet sand and polish a poppy patina patina truck so the answer is yes and we have the boys over here from Boca ceramic to show you guys the difference between just laying on your clear coat and taking it to that next step making this thing look like a showroom finish even though it's a patina truck so we got Casio here we're gonna use uh three steps polish on this truck and this is gonna be nice smooth glossy I'll show you guys the difference between just laying down your clear coat and taking it to that next step foreign so the boys got the whole cab sanded down with the 1200 grit it's already looking pretty smooth so now they're going to go ahead and jump onto the bed so while they're working on that Andrew and I are gonna shift gears here and we're gonna work on getting our new Eaton Center section put it into our rear end that way when this thing's done we're ready to take it out on the road and get it on the dyno all right so the first step of getting our new rear end together is disassembly of the old unit I've already started pulling out the axles um now I'm going to pull the carrier caps off pull the center section out and then we have a whole new setup brand new Eaton true track and then we also have our brand new ring and pinion set along with all of our install parts we have new bearings new races this is a nine and a half inch ring gear with a 373 ratio so what we have to do is start disassembling some of the old things we're going to pull this guy apart and see what size shims are in here so we can copy that into our new setup and then we'll start pressing on all of our carrier bearings and proceed with fitting it in getting with ring gear bolted on and then we'll start checking clearances for our backlash to make sure we have a good mesh pattern so we don't have any winding on D cell or at any other point [Music] thank you [Music] [Applause] all right now we've got all the bearings pressed as you can see the outer bearing uh still isn't on because we have to get our pinion installed and we're using a standard style crush sleeve I'd usually like to use solid spacers because it helps in being able to take it on and off this guy it's one time use only even if you're changing the oil seal you're typically supposed to change the crust sleeve but like I said we're using a standard style Crush Washer and we'll get to that once we start installing everything finally so next thing I'm going to do is move on to getting our two races for our opinion installed into the differential this one is going to be our inner and the smaller one is going to be the outer that goes into the front here [Music] so I've got my opinion gear installed I don't have the clutch press sleeve in it yet because it's a one-time use deal so I've put the proper preload on the bearings without the washer because we're going to pull it back apart even though we did use the existing shim that was on the old setup it's potential that we could not be deep enough or Too Deep [Music] all right so we're bolted in and already I could tell before I even put the caps on we are way too tight so what we're going to do is take less mesh out of it and start moving it this way we have a stack full of new shims here that we'll be able to add into we have several different sizes and we have an adjustable shim on this side so everything that we remove from here will add into this side [Music] I moved it 15 thou away from the gear and I actually have movement now so I have some sort of backlash one or two thousand maybe three at the most so we're still too tight I'm gonna go get our dial indicator we'll mount it onto the housing and then we'll get the real measurement see what that's at [Music] all right I got our new stack set up and we're about 220 thou so I pulled out three thousand side of the last stack so we'll see how that goes all right so third time's the charm got it back in and you can see our readout on our indicator here right at about nine thousands spec is between six and ten so nine is really really close I would love to you know get it right on the money at eight but this is gonna work just fine we're still with inspect so uh we're gonna move on now I'm gonna Mark the gears and see what our pattern is like make sure that the pinion is deep enough foreign the darker spot is where it's starting to pull off some of the paint and we're centralized on the gear so that's exactly what we want to see with our depth and our opinion we're not too far out here towards the outside diameter and we're not too far on the inside everything's looking real good so now what I'm going to do is pull the Yoke back off put our crush sleeve in there tighten that down to the preload spec then we'll start assembling the rear end back in get our axles back together seal this thing up and we should be going back down the road again [Music] finland's finally installed but with our truck sleeve our caps are installed and torqued and I just want to check one last time before we start putting it together and you can see we're right at about eight so I'm happy with the results here we're looking real dialed in so now I'm going to go ahead and finish off with the rest of everything and fill it with fluid for sure this time [Music] foreign [Music] and buffing polishing the truck it looks absolutely amazing I feel like this is probably one of the biggest things that have changed the look of this truck all right before we pop the bed back on the truck we're gonna test out our new rear end by sticking the truck on the dyno we're over here at Blow by racing we got the 454 all strapped on the dyno we were ready to start doing some pulls us thing to see what kind of numbers we're gonna make foreign so that was our first pull on the dyno it made 361 horsepower at 113 miles an hour max torque was at 87 miles an hour at 381 foot pounds of torque so already on the first run we're about 200 horsepower over where we started Chris is going to put some more timing in it and let it hit it again foreign [Applause] [Music] making any changes there doctor a little bit of tip and stuff here where it's going through the gears we looked upstairs Airfield looking good she might be a little rich and pull some fuel out of it [Music] I can't get more fuel but it's more of a heat issue than anything else whole temp's getting a little hot and I have a retards coming in so 129 is cool in timing so we're all at 19 degrees timing instead of the 30 30. we're going to make this a little less aggressive up here let it cool off a little more now come back at it 390 414 torque yeah that's better torque monster okay definitely the timing in the mid-range air feels still good I think we're pretty solid yeah I mean you can probably make more power but not today because it's just so humid and okay it's wet outside definitely has ability to make 400 horsepower the tire all day that's a big improvement from the 180 189 that we started with uh here's the last run we did last time the best one was the first run last time Far Cry before and afters so the blue the blue dot here is our run before we did all that Little Rock 180 horsepower here's where we're at today 390. 415 foot-pounds of torque we're at 251 so it's a success what do you think I love it it looked great super humid out here today I mean I'm like on my second t-shirt but I ain't complaining 92 but it feels like 110. sweet thank you Chris [Music] [Music] all right we got the girl back from the from the dino session everything went real well I'm pretty pleased with the numbers that's a pretty solid little upgrade for this truck considering we were at 184 when we started so last thing we're going to do now is get the bed strapped on this thing and yes we are going to give you guys some of them sweet Smoky S2s burnouts foreign [Music] so now that we got the truck all done I must say I couldn't be happier with the overall turnout the way it came out the performance parts did a huge difference back on our first episode with the truck we put it on the dyno we barely got 185 horsepower out of it all those parts that we picked up from jeds.com all the Edelbrock stuff you know it was claiming to make about 550 horsepower which is I'm assuming is at the crank in a confined room with a condition and probably zero percent humidity on an engine stand which is going to be your your best uh performance we were measuring our horsepower at the rear wheels it's 100 degrees in there and uh as it got hot it was kind of suffering a little bit I think the truck probably will make more horsepower but all in all 400 400 horsepower 400 foot-pounds of torque is a lot of fun especially in a little truck like this yeah man I'm stoked you ready to do a burnout [Music] how's the drive shaft [Music] all right guys well that's a wrap on the 454 episode it's not exactly the ending that I was hoping for not exactly the ending I was hoping to give you guys but it's done and that's that's custom car building man it's never a dull moment matter of fact that truck's not even allowed back in the shop it's out there thinking about what it just did to me so unfortunately we'll be getting a new drive shaft it's all part of the deal but the good news is we got all kinds of other content coming out you guys if you notice we got the K10 back in the shop we're getting back on that we got a transmission coming in from bowler once we get that in we're going to be getting back on the Continental we even got Sergeant Square back in the shop and as you see you guys the Chevelle is nowhere to be found that's because it's next door getting a bunch of body work done we're going to be back on that too so we got a lot of great content coming back out you guys so have no fear S2s is here we'll see you guys on the next one peace foreign [Applause]
