[Music] alone bring out the saw me the new B same as [Music] [Applause] the thanks man what's up guys Stephen Cortez I'm Republic today we're here with Asa Miller former Navy Special Forces uh ASA why don't you tell us about yourself yeah I spent six years in Naval Special Operations and since getting out I've teamed up with you guys to just kind of help you with R&D of your products and then also create some cool informative um content today our video is about the saw this is a critical part of your squad can you tell us a little bit more about um the role that this person would have uh why you would need something like this and uh yeah just talk a little bit about the weapon so the saw comes in two variations for us we use either the Mark 46 which is this version It's 5.56 um and then we also have a bigger version of The Mark 48 which um is 762 so just has a little bit extra ump behind it the idea behind it is as small units um depending on your you where you're operating you might not have immediate air support or other conventional units in the area to help you out of a bad situation so the idea behind this is it gives you a little a little bit extra um Firepower to react to a contact if you get ambushed or something like that into a firefight um so you can maneuver your guys out so we like to say it's the biggest gun on the battlefield um which means one it can be super dangerous to the enemy but also number two it can draw a lot of attention to yourself so as the operator it you're it's it's super important that um not only you know your weapon so you can keep it running but you're also tactically proficient so you can um maneuver yourself to stay alive cuz once you start firing the enemy's number one objective is going to be to put you down right so uh the person who's operating this in the unit is very critical uh I guess on patrol with this person being the front the back I guess it depends on the mission yeah it generally depends on the mission however you you'd want to keep them somewhere more or less in the middle you wouldn't want them um like you wouldn't have this guy as a point man it's pretty heavy weapon big weapon um so you the point man you you know you want to have a lot of sa situ situational awareness looking around um so you kind of you keep these guys in the middle so that once the contact were to go off um they can just focus on shooting and and that's about it so having people around them with peashooters or m4s helps you to uh not have to be distracted or paying attention so much to to to Tactical movements if that makes sense yeah and uh each Squad this is like standard every is at least one of these yeah so in a you know and it it's different depending on what branch of service you're in or even depending on the mission but generally speaking in in this environment such as this you're going to have for three to four of them for a platoon size of guys the nerd in me wants to know a little bit more about this gun and so this doesn't have an optic on it I would assume when you guys are out there training you do have some sort of optic on it or do you just run irons you always run iron sights no matter what weapon platform you have because Optics go down but um for a 46 or a 48 yeah I always ran either a red dot or an L can on it as you get more proficient with your weapon uh you can be more precise but the biggest thing with a a saw is and we call Aerial weapon you're just trying to suppress the contact put rounds down range in high volumes right so your guys can maneuver um but yeah Optics are totally fine guys will customize them put different foregrips on it um so sometimes they can even be run with silencers um different butt stock variations so you really can make it your own I think earlier you were saying um everyone that you you would be training with or running missions with would also carry some of this ammunition or some of the mags with it right typical load out is going to be about 4 to 500 on your person if it's a 48 cuz the ammo is bigger um and then 100 in the gun you'd spread some around the rest of the platoon and then for a 46 they come in 200 round drums so you're going to have 8 to 1,000 rounds on you and then again you're going to spread um canisters around the platoon the two most important things to consider with this when you're actually using it um is barrels can overheat pretty quickly just cuz of volume of fire so you need to know how to replace the barrel super easy to get the barrel off you just push this lever and then punch the end and it'll slide off great so you guys are carrying probably another Barrel so way I always ran it um I just had another one in my backpack um sometimes they overheat and the casings will expand and um so you'll have to switch it out and sometimes you know throw it to the side if you're shooting or maybe throw it back in your backpack so be aware they get incredibly hot but it's always good to have two the second big thing is your bolt face which to find the bolt face we open the tray Fe speed You' swipe for any uh loose rounds and then you're going to ride the bolt Face Forward lock the charging handle and then you've got these little push pads or push pins right here pull it out drop it down and then you push in if you look here the end of the spring push that out spring comes out and then you're just going to kind of rock hit the bolt carrier group out and this right here is your bolt face and generally this is the number one point of failure um so I always carried a second bolt face in my pocket on my arm so if I ever needed to I could switch this out super fast switch the barrel out super fast and the only other really gear you need is CLP or some type of oil to keep it going right and a screwdriver to get any uh any malfunctions unstuck basic basically so the firing rate for these things is is crazy You' never be able to carry enough ammo to to just continuously fire these so you have to be smart about it while it is an aerial weapon you are trying to suppress the enemy um you have to be smart about it so what we employ is a technique called singing where as we talked about we always have three to four of these weapons so once you get those online one will shoot a a good long burst maybe 5 to 10 rounds and then you'll come off the trigger and your buddy will be be waiting for that and as they hear you stop shooting they'll send their own burst and you sing back and forth right and that helps conserve ammo and also gives the adub Gunner or the saw Gunner um ability to maneuver um in his box stay a mobile Target so you're not a Sitting Duck cuz as we talked about this is the biggest gun on the battlefield draws a lot of attention this gun right here the saw has a very specific purpose and so we talk a lot about knowing your mission knowing your environment knowing your skill set uh training with people or maybe you're you're isolated and you're alone so whatever weapon system you do have um know your mission know all of those things train with it again keep it wellmaintained and operational get your reps in combat is complicated your gear shouldn't be
