Brandon Sanderson enters League of Legends Esports

hey everyone I am recording this from the airport uh right now so I apologize for the SCU uh setup I'm coming back from dream hack I did not know this announcement was going out today I blame the LCS commissioner for that uh but some of you might have seen already that the news that Brandon Sanderson officially has a League of Legends Esports team uh obviously that is very exciting to hear uh and I want to tell you guys a little bit about how things went on behind the scenes scenes uh and how we got here because uh I may or may not have had a small part in that so back at the beginning of the split you might remember I did an interview with Mark uh I wish I had footage of it I don't because I'm again doing this on my phone uh where I asked him something about what is Brandon getting in and he's like wait let me tell you something off camera and so we ended up talking shortly thereafter and he was curious if I could get him in touch with Brandon's company because I have a bunch of friends over there I've done some work with them if you aren haven't noticed before I did a video on Brandon's Channel where he interviewed me and then I did an interviewer I interviewed him on this channel and uh Mark and I also have interviewed him way back in like 2020 I think and so it's it's like a thing that's been happening for a while I've gone to his conventions I'm I'm friends with his uh folks and I also do a like basically monthly meeting with a friend that I have over there and so I hopped on a call with my friend over at Dragon steel which is Brandon company and I said hey you know is there any interest in talking to Riot they want to talk to you about a really cool opportunity and basically the premises is that uh Riot wants to help facilitate Partnerships uh between cool group companies and individuals and the teams that compete in the NAC so uh Brandon Sanderson has partnered with marville uh who were a team that were in the finals uh last split for the naacl and they've been around in the space for a long time uh I don't follow the col scene too much but or didn't back in the day but they have been active in the Esports base for a very long time and I know even I know that with my limited knowledge of what goes on there every season and so uh it turns out that a lot of the mville folks were big Brandon Sanderson fans and so when Mark and another friend of mine Zach Wiley who runs the uh the sort of tier 2 scene uh amateur scene Etc they were looking to find Partners it's like wait maybe Brandon would be interested and part of the reason is because Brandon is a really big gamer in fact the video that I did on Brandon's channel is about both of our favorite video game worlds and and in addition to that Dan who does the podcast with him and works with him on a bunch of his stuff is a huge League of Legends Esports fan and we've talked about that a ton he and I and so basically what ended up happening was a couple months ago I got on a call with Mark and the riot folks whoop Le and then uh the dragon steel team and I just helped facilitate this conversation where Mark and folks were presenting hey here's what tier 2 is we'd love to introduce you to a really cool team there of people that are passionate fans of your work and maybe there's an opportunity for some sort of partnership where you could actually enter into the League of Legends Esports ecosystem in a formal way and I don't want to give like a bunch of details about this because I think that's for Riot and uh Brandon's team and all those folks to talk about all on on all this stuff marville uh it is worth noting that this is a partnership between marville and uh dragon steel it's not like riot games and dragon steel or Brandon Sanderson partnership uh and I think that's really nice because it just allows that kind of direct connection uh but yeah it's very very exciting uh it's fun to have I mean you guys know that Mark and I talk all the time about Baran and Sanderson stuff I have my somewhat unattended book Channel where Mark and I have talked about his uh work and so it's kind of crazy that in 2024 Mark and I helped facilitate Brandon Sanderson getting a League of Legends Esports team to compete underneath his Banner uh so I'm just really excited about it congrats to marville congrats to Brandon I think this is going to be really fun and I hope all of you guys tune in and watch this stuff whenever it kicks off soon but yeah other than that I will let uh I'll let Riot Brand's team and Maryville kind of explain the rest at least for now but yeah I'm I'm poed about it it's so cool uh these these little Ms like this truly some of the coolest parts of my job where like hey my favorite author who I ended up meeting and then also this world that I'm like passionate about this ecosystem I'm passionate about kind of helping to facilitate a moment that that brings these things together it's just so fun so anyway uh we have
