Box Truck Conversion | Uhaul Truck Camper Tour | Full Time RV Living

the other day i was working gate at mackinac mill creek this came in and i said i gotta see that cool as it looks on the outside we gotta check out the inside these guys are gonna be nice enough to let us take a tour inside this used to be a u-haul box truck now it's basically i guess a motor home like a tiny house on wheels pretty [Music] awesome the owners of this beautiful rig are bob and michelle yeah bob michelle are out of gaylord michigan i almost like assaulted him when i saw him come in i said i got to see in there and they were like yeah no problem so people so many people thought it was a food truck like no that's a camper nice now you guys didn't built this you bought it yes but a guy in northern michigan did build yeah i didn't even know you could buy one built already i know right we didn't either yeah we actually we passed it a few times when we were looking for one on craigslist we just kept coming back to it so we were like let's go take a peek so were you looking for like a converted vehicle or were you looking for just an rv in general yeah yeah fit all your needs oh of course yeah everybody asks us if we decorated it and we said no it's already perfect we don't have to do anything to it that's awesome it was a get in and go you don't get that from a factory no no they look like they came out of a factory yes yeah right so yeah this one's surprising yeah yeah oh you'll be surprised if you haven't seen the inside yet i haven't seen the inside at all i've just been around the outside and i'm already like geeking out over some of the stuff they've got going on in here i guess first of all what did it used to be and like what kind of motor and fuel does it used to be an old u-haul actually an 88 international u-haul that's a diesel uh 460. five-speed manual five-speed manual yeah with the bench seat yeah it's old-school like this reminds me of one of the big yeah yeah like need you need one of those suicides yeah like one of the old fire truck steering wheels yeah how does it drive actually great great yeah yeah here's like a dream um it cruises 60 65 i think i got up to seven seven years well you did that on the expressway yeah no problems with the hills no no it's a it's a tank it's kind of like driving a giant board tank down the road but it's a beast it goes it hasn't given us any trouble and we've taken it all over the state already this year and we can't wait to have many more years nothing has been done inside here so this is just original oh all around 1988. did y'all put a seat cover on there nope nope that is awesome wow got a cd we can communicate with other truckers if we want we also got ice cream music but that would just be yeah that would be awesome you got ice cream music yeah we can turn the hard to do all kinds of different things look at that ice cream music that thing is clean that's crazy so the creator had a fantastic sense of humor and he nicknamed this rig the nanomanor so everything has monkeys bananas hence the yellow and themed type of thing so it's very interesting and you'll see it in different little places all through the rig yeah those are hand pounded yeah really he did that himself handmade hubcaps yeah yeah on the other side like we got to my son's house on the ground we realized we lost we're like no there is a fresh water intake here the um the clean water is actually in the ceiling inside this is an intake yep he's got a connector hose you would hook to your thing and it and it will push the water up into the tank in the ceiling then it becomes gravity gravity fat oh so it doesn't have a pump no no it's all gravity that's the satellite for the td or like the antenna that's the antenna for the tv there yeah what's this that is the exhaust vent for the bathroom okay yeah okay so how do you hook up and to this well there's an adapter up to there hook it up to your spigot hose and it will push the water right up into the tank someone inside tells you when to stop that's awesome i know i don't it works like when he was showing us this i was can you hook up water like you would on a regular rv or do you have to um run it off the tank you just run it off because you would fill the tank and run it right off the table yeah okay cool yeah yeah this exhaust fan runs the generator if we're at a site that doesn't have power we can just turn this fan on and it pumps the exhaust rate out of the campers so you can leave this hatch closed yep and run your generator yes yes awesome the back is awesome it's a whole another beast too it's hooked up to a winch it's a 3 500 pound winch this just plugs into the back of it and it's got a simple in and out button so you push that out and it literally lowers it down push the end and it just pulls it right back up this pipe hooks down here and looks like it folds up yep and then it goes up here and helps to stabilize the railing and then goes up and also holds up the awning this guy was a genius this is like some redneck genius that i can appreciate i love this it's like what i would do but way more refined okay so you just gotta hold the stairs when you're pulling it down and they just drop right into position oh they go down limits okay i got you just it's just hinged here like a door hinge it just swings back and forth and uh i'm going to move the carpet i had to move the carpet to show you guys this but like this is a hidden spot he cut a spot in the floor and then on the opposite side of the door that turns into a party tailgate or a party deck is a sled you can store your chairs table whatever you need to inside here so once the door is back down the party deck goes up all your stuff is stored inside this little sled that's awesome that's really cool like this guy thought everything when i saw him pull in i didn't know this was a party deck or anything you couldn't tell that and i saw the sled hanging off the back and i i wondered what it was but i didn't think too much of it because we are in northern michigan and there's lots of like snow and hunting and all kinds of stuff that you would use a sled for so i thought maybe it was just part of their gear that they carry with them but no it's actually like a trapdoor storage compartment very cool all right let's go on inside sliding door yeah and you got your welcome signs like siding or something there yeah that's like plastic siding so the the roll-up door is gone now no it's still it's actually here really yeah and um it's painted on the other side i was gonna say if so on this side you can it's got a very beautiful beach scene painted on so that way if you're at a spot you can't put the party deck you're not just looking at an ugly yellow door god you thought of everything yeah yeah everything are we going to be able to see the beach the beaches okay this is insane you guys we haven't even made it inside and my mind is blown this is totally insane you guys you should have seen my face i know it was crazy when i walked in here this place is unbelievable this used to be a u-haul truck look at this when they have the door down it's a beach scene jolly [Music] just begun we know what we have let's hold on tight found what we're looking for in life it was built to be a weekend warrior so he didn't account to have a kitchen really so what we have set up here is just a small eating area we do have a microwave and some cupboard spaces so to account for that because we use it a heck of a lot more we have a mini fridge to put outdoors inside and we cook on the fire anyway so a stove is like that really necessary right yeah we actually have a couple that work camps here and we hope to do a tour of their place it shouldn't take long because it's a minivan and they cook on a campfire non-stop that's their only way to cook and they love it in fact they gave me some of their food and i was like the stereo is hooked up over here on the wall it has an antenna that's back here behind yeah it jams yeah it does sound really good i bet it does that's awesome so this is really the main storage area for the camper we've got access from here or here there's a bar to hang jackets off lots of outlets up there yep the air conditioners here um the heater is not plugged in of course because we don't need that right now but it does have heat so we can that's down here yep right here there's an access to the closet from here or from this side yep let's see yeah this is pretty big very big storage space we haven't decided if we want to build shelves in there yet or what we're going to do because it goes down really deep so you can't really have shelves so you won't be able to get your stuff that's underneath right here you got your smoke alarm very nice that's how we know our dinner's done in our camper an air conditioner some track lights this is your heater yep that probably kicks butt in here doesn't it oh yeah we haven't had to use it a lot yet but right we could do some off the grid yeah towards fall heating our camper it's a 26 foot camper and most rvs unless it's like 20 degrees or lower you can usually get away with just a small electric heater and that's what it they exactly have here but it's installed in the wall so it's not even in the way there's actually like the fireplace it works really well and then the blower that's in the stairs hooks to that so we've got two different heat sources we've got this one and okay they got electric fireplace mantle the whole thing look at that this is ridiculous i love the ceiling too so he has a half inch insulated board all around the shell of this underneath here to supply for some extra insulation and then every bit of it is covered with either wallpaper or stuff or we have actual fabric on the ceiling here that is all trimmed out the bedroom has fabric that has moons and stars on it it's really hard to see up there but oh my gosh yeah so i said to bob the other day we're standing outside i haven't even looked in here i said bob i said how many people can sleep in there and he said well the main bed is up above and then the sectional sofa and i was like i was like in a box truck a sectional sofa you guys got to check this out look at this leather sectional soap in a box truck when we wake hear the birds and see the sun side to side [Music] so he's got this thing wired he's got the the stereo here and the blu-ray player there and it goes to the speakers and to the tv here that's awesome and then look at these walls here in a ceiling ceiling it's one thing after another you guys look at this they got a like a full-on beautiful ceiling fan my wife would kill to have this in her rv and we we live in ours look at this that's crazy so i have this little tiny remote control here and i have these lights that um are on the edge of our bed up there and i can set mood lighting look at that remote control ryan's feel like fireflies and stuff at night right yeah so it's banana manor as you can see up here manor manor with a little monkey hanging so we have monkeys on the couch we've got monkeys partying hanging from the handrail we've got um monkeys up in the bedroom there's a monkey in the bathroom they said they haven't removed any of the monkeys because that was sort of i would call this guy an artist that was the artist that created this rig his sort of touch on it so they've left all the monkeys hanging around this thing looks so classy in here and somehow he made the monkeys classy i don't know they fit they don't look like they don't belong you know what i mean right he actually had to cut the wall or holes in the walls to fit these they are caulked and he had he has them sealed really well with insulation and framed off yeah and they got blinds right there there it is [Music] so there's another smoke alarm there too awesome even the stuff like this was what stuff that he did as it all curled down so it doesn't slide that's awesome like you secured everything so that we would be safe you were saying earlier bob that this fireplace is actually comes to this vent yeah and it shoots warm air out through here from the fireplace so it's got its own little fan over here then it does yes okay yeah you probably don't ever even need that if you got the right probably not the fireplace you're not gonna need this one down here that would be secondary the thing that i'm seeing is plenty of outlets all over yes that's something a lot of rvs are lacking and then a nice big window look at that lots of light in here and then you got that one over the couch there lots of lighting in here so they have 110 power for lights and stuff instead of running 12 volt wires everywhere and running 12 volt light system two they've just installed several of these uh battery operated lights like probably double a or aaa batteries right which provide a ton of light it looks just as good as the 12-volt lights and campers and without all the wiring so if you're trying to build something like this maybe you want to avoid the wiring the whole 12-volt system where you could just use stick-up lights like that so i can reach probably about eight and a half foot yeah that's got to be eight and a half feet tall at least much taller than most campers back here is where the truck goes over the cab like you see on a lot of u-haul trucks and then what he did was extend this out so that they can put their bed and all up there and under here it gives you plenty of room for seating uh with the couch and all the way he designed it with the sectional sofa so you got actual ton of seating in here and a ton of headroom and then he still took advantage of extending this out and it doesn't take away from any of that room in here right this guy is a genius yes [Music] [Music] they're telling me that the bathroom is the best part we saved the best for last it even has a title to it so the name of the bathroom all right do you want to tell us anything before we open it it takes the thought of bathroom selfies just to a whole new level like once you see it you'll know what i'm talking about like it's pretty ridiculously cool i'm a little nervous to open the door but here we go you ready let's go in here oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh oh you guys aren't gonna believe this look at that they got a gold toilet and like a red silk velvet golly this guy is amazing this guy is amazing and you didn't change any of this right no the royal flush look at that everything that you look at in here it just keeps going and going so underneath so you can get to your plumbing real well [Music] the bathroom like we said there's no pump for the water it's all gravity fed so this is actually just like a plate here it lifts comes right down of course it has a trap door yes there's a trap door in the bathroom the water tank is up here oh okay here oh it's a whole nother panel yeah okay but then all of our electrical for the fireplace and the tv is back here the plumbing to go down to the um black water tank okay is down there and it empties just like a normal rv so do you have two tanks or just one tank just one tank for clean and one tank for dirty because all we have is the toilet and the little sink and the little sink for washing up yep that's it we don't travel with water in it okay right right yeah in the ceiling when we came in this was our first time ever here and we didn't know where we were like coming to so um yeah we didn't put water in it look at this look at that good looking guy in that gold mirror just amazing and then look one more monkey this guy is not the gold toilet gold toilet they have got a gold toilet so they got some storage above the counter area a couple of shelves in there and then under the counter the counter is actually concealing the compartment for the generator we came in the back door but they also have an rv door over here that he installed and he put electric rv steps on there it's got the screen door and the regular door place to tie it back so another window oh exhaust for the ac yeah there's actually an exhaust fan in there um but there's a little i'm going to say a half inch copper tube with a drain that comes up under the tire or it comes up above the tire to let the water drip let the water drain out yep for condensation that's awesome look at that exhaust too it's a beast that has got to be the coolest rv conversion i've ever seen and it was made out of a u-haul box truck i want to thank bob and michelle for bringing us into their home for the full grand tour this thing is it's mind-blowing to me i hope you can appreciate it through the video to see it for yourself is just like this is something you could make but how long did you say that guy seven years seven years he worked on it for seven years just this last year yeah this guy is like a craftsman an artist an innovator all this you could do probably in your garage or whatever right just have a few tools you could you could put this together but you got to have an imagination to do one like this yeah for sure here's what's possible thank
