and joining us down the booth is a man one of the greatest icons entering his 48 season as a broadcaster for his hometown team and then of course is the one and only Bob Uecker Bob welcome buddy hi pal how are you I'm good your nose every year I see you gets a little heavier well it's from working out so here's Charlie Tilson you treat your clubs playing right it's not bad yeah they're Craig's got them going pretty well and it's it's here in early June of course Hawk but now they got you know a couple of couple of kids that's one of them right there as a nice play that's a nice play by Arcia well you know a lot of people awfully youngsters out there don't get the Brewers games I was catcher he was good with a leather not so good with a lump well I wasn't worried you know I was telling the story earlier December UQ's compadres over there the first time I ever met him was in spring training I was 19 years old out in West Palm Beach we were playing this where the Braves had for spring training and I had just had a huge year in the Eastern League right league record the home runs in RBIs and of course back in those days the Sporting News was the Bible of all writers and everybody knew who I was and I come up to the plate his hair is a I'll tell you what it's nice when they catch the ball you got yep you know that you're facing right now 60 feet six inches away well he's going to Cooperstown and he got happen to be named Warren that's right he said I'll tell you what we're gonna do we're gonna show you a fastball right now in the middle first pitch and I think he's now messing with my head sure enough here comes about that was tops with spotty in those days Shrike wants now back out the step back in he's an ok one more time in between one more time here comes another 84 85 mile an hour fastball he says dad coming honky said I got well what can I do he said ok one more time here comes a slider and grab some big face Warren Spahn for three pitches never jerked the bat off my shoulder I know what he was thinking that for not sticking up here behind that four mile an hour stuff man Warren Spahn asked me one day how about using a glove he won't 363 ma'am and you said you did that to Mickey a couple times yeah man'll I did it too yeah Mickey Mickey didn't believe me either no he asked me one day he said give me a fast ball to him that's all right he took it right down the pipe just hit two more times he's gone well is that said euchre is there as a quick inning right there that's it this suitor I wish give us much give it does I love a man its power in 50 minutes no score top of the fourth inning and our guest in the booth is hall-of-famer and what a what a guy one of my all-time favorites my baseball's all-time favorites I'm gonna miss you man well I'm gonna miss you no to that but you know we got the text we text each other yes Lana and I'll tell you it's just a lot of people don't know Bob Uecker besides being a terrific catcher was also one of the toughest guys with his hands to ever play this game I mean he had a reputation that everybody in baseball knew and he protected his guys back in those days there was there's no question about there was some racism and things a little different oh yeah and one of buttes jobs was on the road he would absolutely take care of Aaron and all those guys to protect him and you will never hit the kind of guy you will never hear one person say want bad word about and that's that's unusual in any game especially baseball buek is just a great pleasure to see it baby thank you hotties years and then I know one thing you have both missed Big D oh I missed that of course we're talking about Don Drysdale Don loved you like we all do yeah we used to have some fun when we go over to I was so looking forward to coming down here and being able to sit in with you for an inning it's an honor for me you're my pal you know that know Bob is it's been a friend of all of ours you know you've we've had some great ambassadors of course Tommy Lasorda yeah at the top of the list and you love Tommy like me I absolutely and Tommy and I everybody seems like for some reason every time Tommy and I ever get together your name comes up why is that I don't know I remember being up at Dodger Stadium one night with the bases loaded and downed two to one and I looked in the Dodger dugout and they were all sitting Nursery close you know you were the first guy now this the first time maybe the second time I ever saw the hawk person I think what's the first time and after the game he came up to me told me and said you know you'd be a good broadcaster it's ours ours we're in a setting to where we could tell spend enough of it that time in Boston I will never forget her that's gonna be told in close company oh yes there is a ball to and to the counts Travie show this kid here you know when he was with Boston he played against us he looked really good or the Red Sox are still upset at this deal Hawk last year the Red Sox came to Milwaukee and played and that's all he talked about was Travis Shaw he had a great year for the crew last year well you know I've always said to make making of a good manager is not wins and losses the making of a manager is the eyes you watch how that team plays do they give him 27 outs and blowout today this has been a turn around the correct well you know a couple of years back when Ron Roenicke was going to leave and in talking with our ownership people and Mark Attanasio especially I told him if we're gonna make a change and Ron Roenicke is going to leave the guy that we have to have is Craig Counsell he doesn't belong upstairs and he worked upstairs for a couple of years and he enjoyed that and he found out what the inner workings were of being upstairs but he belong on the field walk I mean that's that's a guy is you know him you know yes there's all four slowly walk coming up one out you know this ain't about I bring dude like we're into right now is you just mentioned it at a break right here when you've been around this game as long as nobody knows the game of baseball that's how beautiful it is there's been some guys who've been around it longer than others who it may be understand it just a little bit better than others but when you see a redo you know you guys have had some tough years you've gone through some great years and you go since the tough years and now it looks like you're shorter well I mean not only so much what they have on the field but in the book is what has really been big for Milwaukee that's some young kids out there and they can really rush it up there you and I were talking a moment ago about velocity today in the game and it's not going to be too far down the road that 100 miles per hour is going to be the norm that's exactly right oh you know yourself what was the two things we used to say we'd be on the top step of the dugout when bob was playing in our era and the last two things we would say four we ran out on the field okay boys let's get in their bullpen in a hurry and the next thing was if we get beat let's get beaten her yeah exactly but you didn't see the bullpens as much back then can those guys know innings pitched was a part of your contract for next year I'm telling you what the bullpen people asked me in all my time in baseball can't turn it but they get delete man what's what's been the the changes that you've seen tell them there's no question about the biggest change spin the bullpen today if you don't have a good building good your starter sorry I don't care how good your hitting is I don't care how good anything is if you've got a bad bulb it you lose yeah I gotta be honest with you for me it's salary I was being paid under the minimum at that time his joy oh I remember the middle $6,000 Rocky Nass about five hundred eighteen thousand you and I both are glad these kids are getting it because they're for a long time baseball players didn't have any leverage whatsoever thanks to the late Frank Torre one of my great friends and a guy that you knew very well you know in his years with Rawlings a contract to never be seen using their product for me was was a godsend as far as money went it was beautiful but never to be singing yes don't use our stuff here's the check how about your golf tournament out in Arizona you still got to know that that canceled a couple of years ago we did it for a couple years and then I got caught taking the money and now they messed it up you know they have the big tournament out there in the spring right and they waited too long to get a hold of the guys for mine which was prior to the big tournament in Phoenix the Phoenix Open and you know couldn't get enough guys together so I quit I backed on it no you and done where help done was helping me a lot with yeah John Carson yeah absolutely sure of course that's the famous restaurant out there that spring training I mean you can't get the seat because the first of all the food is terrific yes and then you can walk in there you'll see anybody from the world of bass and you got that right you got them here in Chicago to Carson's oh yeah yeah oh it to the count with two out here Bob Uecker our guests all the fame announcer and I can't say Hall of Fame player [Laughter] didn't have enough that's why we're talking here a second ago you know these kids today coming into the baseball there's baseball is so well positioned now talent-wise going forward that is just incredible I tell our people and we're familiar with it the best shortstop I played against in my time so it was Louie every oh man we got five shortstops in the American League they better than Louie was I'm looking up on the on the boards here above the lower grandstand and looking at some of the names that were here in the past yeah I saw his name over there any Nami to me it was always one of my favorite guys oh yeah apareció Louie yeah absolutely little Louie hmm terrific person terrific team mate and what a shortstop he was but these kids today as he you know take care of yourself I'll be talking to you thank you pal where's the food
