about time again emily and i just got back from oshkosh flew the airplane up there had a great time and i come home to work on the boat but unfortunately my cover did not fare too well it's been sitting on here for about two months i guess we've been on the road so i'm gonna get this cover off and we're gonna get to work i guess the sun just ate that thing up it's not surprising the boat's very old so there's the race trailer still hooked to the ford from our last trip not had time to even unhook it yeah so we'll be home for like two days got to get the boat ready and get it on the lake this is a big camping trip that emily's family's done for a lot of years i mean like 50 years so we'll take the boat out sleep on it have fun cook some good food be together we're excited we start pulling it away and we find this on the dash and the shifter is freaking broken off like what like sheared off like uh seriously broken so our horn has been malfunctioning so i bought that air horn and it sensed right there right in that cup holder and that dude must have gotten too hot and exploded and i was in the shop yesterday an explosion went off and i thought a limb fell on the shop all the neighbors came out they're like what's going on well i think we just found it that is crazy aaron so now we need a new shifter the new top thank goodness it didn't blow any of the windows out so did it shoot up and it hit this and rip it i think it was compression just the air blowing up probably no way i think the can hit this i mean look at the dent in the can i think the i mean that's shot up and hit this yeah oh my gosh this was like this yeah the can shot on the can boom and broke this off and then the what the heck so we need a shifter how are we going to find a shifter before we leave in two days it sheared it off like it's junk it is toast that is going to prevent us from boating so i need to get on the horn and we can't put some jv weld on it oh we can in fact you can just ride in the engine bay and shift gears and operate the throttle manually and i'll steer it way around this well it got too hot built up pressure and exploded so this happened to my dad one time he had a can of free on on the attachments truck and it blew the entire front windshield out and like warped the cabin all kinds of stuff luckily he wasn't in it do not store in vehicles or high temperature areas above 122 degrees fahrenheit exposure to heat may cause bursting oh my god [Music] that's nuts it's fancy nice little shifter it's got the trim on it right there kill switch wiring harness everything we need wishes luck see how it goes the main mystery we have with this boat is how to access all this stuff like we don't know how to get this panel off to be able to work on the back side of this we do have definitely rot at the bottom where we could access the bottom but we don't want to break it or make it to where we can't reinstall it we just don't know what we're doing no this shifter's got to come off [Music] we came down here in the rear berth he's going to remove this bottom panel here in hopes we can access where we need to be [Music] i'll probably need a 7 16 wrench and you can turn those from out there with the impact it looks like a clip right there but i can't seem to push it enough to come out all right aaron got it he was less afraid of breaking the clip so he took the switch apart perfect now we are removing this bolt that holds the wires down into the top of the shifter but that's why the trim was intermittent pinched wire it'll do it every time so we're just going to cut those wires we'll wire them into the new one oh here's a mess man the boat ate my hat down there somewhere [Music] that's a pretty shifter but that's a lot of hardware dang alrighty time to study these instructions so our cables are the ones with the eyelet on the top not threaded so i think we have some extra pieces here that we won't need like these guys i don't think we need these because that's for the threaded style cable not the eyelet style so we'll need this screw a little bushing and the locking nut to be able to adapt it to our eyelet so i'm putting this assembly together i've got my nut my nest the swivel bearing and the flathead screw in here and placed i think this is how it goes it sits really nicely in this piece so i i think this is how it goes and then this is the snap-on cover that retains the cables where they're supposed to be in their little housing so i'm not going to snap that on yet but just making the middle known where that goes little gold screws go right here where this retention plate goes i'm just going to put them there so they're there when we need them except i'm missing one of course [Music] i found it okay little guy all right aaron's looking for some hole saws because we have to drill some holes for the tilt switch and the interrupter switch those are holes that have to be there that we don't have right now so he's looking for the tools to do that cut our template hole out nicely done set thank you time to go out and make some stuff happen with my new knife flight outfitters flight outfitters we just got back from oshkosh and flight outfitters uh it's an awesome brand and it's got all kinds of cool stuff yeah it's got flint built into it it's got a glass break it's got a flashlight seat belt cutter right there seat belt cutter survival stuff thanks to mark he is an awesome dude [Music] rather difficult to film myself doing this um i am getting our cradles all set for our cables and i've only had them in every setting possible i'm learning this shifter is a universal piece so it has all of these different mounting points for all these different applications and getting it up in there and figuring out where our cables want to be mounted was the first step but then i started looking at the instructions and i was like okay it has a layout for all the places and the mounting points so i hunkered down and got all of our numbers as to where all of these go and i think i've got it in my noggin and i'm getting our hardware placed in the right spots [Music] i've got our throttle cable going here our shift cable going here okay so this kit came with two different kill switches one with black wires one with purple wires i'm looking through the instructions and it says for an inboard it's normally open for an outboard it's normally closed ours is inboard so we're dealing with purple wires so that will be the one we use this one i guess we'll go on the shelf for something else we'll see if i can put that in we also have our trim here says that that blue wire needs to go up green wire goes down you see that right there fancy new shifter here and then we have these plates that go on that one goes there the other one goes over here so we'll get those installed that way we can put this switch in all right those are in so we'll just feed our wires through here and get our switch in blue wires facing up like i said in the manual this is our trim on the way this is for putting it on the trailer we just opened the cubby emily got our cables hooked up and so now it's time to do some wiring i've already hooked up the safety switch and now i'm going to hook up the neutral safety switch the one that prevents it from starting if it's not in neutral so i'll show those to you it's really hard to film in here and also show you what's going on so i'll do it then i'll show you the end result so that's the bottom of the shifter these yellow wires coming out i assume go to these yellow wires on the boat so i'm gonna hook those up and that should be our neutral safety switch here you go i'm just using butt connectors on these now those are the butt connectors that when you hit them with a little bit of heat they shrink down and kind of glue themselves i think that's the best thing under here i could have done heat shrink on it but honestly it's so difficult to get in here and this is a protected area i don't really feel like it's necessary so that's what you got all ready the water is on time to test it out okay it's hooked up safety switch is in if i'm right it'll crank lord help us we misread the instructions there is a pull to open throttle area and a push to open throttle which we thought meant what you do with the shifter to put it in gear do you push it to put it in gear or do you you know and do the throttle well it's opposite of what we thought it was and so we're having to relocate all of our cables the two cables what a freaking pain we've been working on this stupid shifter all day how frustrating it's been very hot and steamy it's very hot up in that rear berth where you're trying to work and oh my gosh leaning against raw fiberglass it's just like not an enjoyable job at all so aaron is down there i'm having to hold the shifter right here for him to take bolts out such a pain oh my gosh we're earning our vacation i'll tell you that right now something we thought would be nice about the shifter is it's kind of a universal number but man has it been a pain to try and figure out where to mount our cables and all the different mounting positions for all the things that we need to do to install it what a freaking pain adjustments there in the engine bay oh we finally have forward and reverse goodness gracious aaron's got his headlight on still we're calling it a night uh we can't be cranking the boat up when it's late like this our neighbors need to sleep um and so erin's got fluffy hair we gotta go pack we gotta get ready um other elements of getting ready to do um and then aaron's gonna get up early and finish that linkage uh cable saga we'll probably just adjust it when we get to the lake but i've got to clean up tools i've got like the covers off the engine stuff like that what it ended up being was i guess him we told you we reversed it so i fixed that then we didn't have forward gears so i adjusted the linkage back on the uh throttle non-throttle body but back on the intake and the last time you saw it it would like rev up and then kick in gear i adjusted that more and that's something we can't check tonight but i suspect we fixed it so we're tired we're gonna take a shower get some sleep and start it probably four in the morning we'll get this done y'all [Music] forward a little bit out there [Music] the girls are hanging out on the boat with me i was just buttoning up some stuff in the cabin we're gonna hit the road soon [Music] all right we got the family all settled at camp tent set up the camper is level for my grandparents power is on now it's time to launch the boat once we get the boat launched we will anchor it out and then go have the evening with the family it's a beautiful evening here at lake washita our favorite lake in the whole wide world and uh we're real grateful to be here the plug's in the boat and the plug is in the boat i checked good plan [Music] i'm happy to report she's anchored out we got our little blow up canoe all done i had a nice swim i tossed on a little dress and we're going to dinner now with the family and i didn't have the boat over here the shifter works the shifter works yes that is such a good point the shifter works all the testing last night late it works we are good to go and it's so much better than it was before it's smooth it is it operates really nicely we love it we're finally here for our sweet sweet family camping trip and we are so thankful we hope you guys enjoyed our struggles i think that's uh highly relatable whenever you deal with a freak accident and then aftermarket parts and especially universal stuff that doesn't work the first time it is what it is and you know there's always something but you got to roll with it i'm thankful and that's what makes an adventure that's right that's right buying a new boat and making a payment that's fun in that who wants to do it we're very thankful to be here and uh leave comments below tell us what you thought we'll see y'all on the next one you
