skating rink is the Kent Valley ice skating rink in Kent Washington W ice is so cold it's really cold but look at what I'm wearing yeah these are ice skates wo look w [Music] waa I love ice skating rings because you can ice skate you can even play hockey oh what's [Music] this oh this is a Zamboni and today you and I are going to learn about [Music] [Music] zambones [Music] Watch [Applause] [Music] Out [Music] w wa [Music] all right now let's learn a little bit more about the Zamboni Zamboni H what a silly name look there it is right there let's spell Zamboni together ready z a m b o n i Zamboni here here we [Music] go wa zambonis are used to resurface the ice at the ice rink the hockey rink wa what an interesting looking machine can you see what shape it looks [Music] like yeah it looks like a rectangle do you see any other common shapes that Zamboni has on it yeah the wheels and tires they are circles hey speaking of wheels and tires come check them out W looks like the tire have these little metal spikes in them do you see them boop boop boop boop boop boop boop boop these spikes are used to dig into the ice and grip the ice so then the Zamboni doesn't slip in slide when it drives on the ice whoa all right let's see what else this Zamboni has oh hey this is the dump tank when all the ice ice gets pushed up to the front this is where all the ice shavings go it's kind of like a giant snow cone all right come back here waa this whole unit this unit is the conditioner and one cool part of the conditioner is right in here wo so there's like a razor blade down there that shake waves the ice it's really hard to see but this yeah looks like a spiral this is an auger that pushes all the ice to the center then goes to the top and then goes to the dump tank oh W and look at this here's some pipes so what these pipes have have water in them and they spray water up down to the left to the right and then from there the water goes on the ice and then it melts and makes it really smooth and flat okay watch this wa okay all right all right I think it's time to turn on the Zamboni see these These are propane tanks this is what powers the Zamboni all right let's fire it up turn on the key whoa all right check this out wao look up there W it's really loud but that's the dump tank that's where all the ice goes and then you dump it into the ice bin in the back okay okay but come over here it's really loud because that is the motor wo that's what provides the Zamboni with all of its power ooh and right here this is the water tank that's where the back of the Zamboni gets all of its water from all right I'm going to go resurface the ice [Music] ring [Music] do you see that this is a board brush it goes at the base of the board all around the ice ring and pushes all of everything in the middle for the augers and the blades to then get pushed on top to the forward and then you can recondition the ice wow board brush wo this is the Pro Shop this is where you get all of your hockey gear oo hockey sticks so cool all right we'll look at those later but right now we need to sharpen my blades on my skates all right and this is the sharpening room wow so cool all right this is the blade Master yeah see this there's metal on the bottom of this skate and we need to sharpen it this is the sharpening station so let's put this skate right here slide this tighten that just a little bit pull that up now it's ready to sharpen okay turn on the light and then there was light all right here we [Music] go w [Music] do you see those Sparks here we go who all right that's sharp all right now we're ready all right let's go check out some hockey gear oh some pads yeah a lot of pad pads because ice is really hard you don't want to fall down oo and some more pads do you see what I see orange and blue hockey sticks no way look the color orange yeah and blue wow oh hey look here's two different kinds of hockey sticks do you see how they curve differently see this one curves that way and this one curves that way wow see I'll give you an example so you take this one and you fling the puck this way cuz it curves that way but this one it curves the other way so you fling the puck that way oh hey look aect perfectly placed [Music] Pocky all right hey I got the perfect [Music] stick I got my skates and I got the hockey puck so now let's go play some [Music] hockey w [Music] all right now that we have our hockey stick yeah and our hockey puck another fun thing to do at ice skating rinks is learn to play and maybe at your ice skating rink they have learned to play as well where you as a child can learn to play hockey and the point of hockey is to get the puck using the stick into the hockey go wo check it out W this is the goal W wo so what you do like I said take the puck and get it inside the hockey go past this line with a hockey stick all right let's try it again it's going to be a little bit easier because normally there's a goalie right there it's so much fun playing hockey because the puck slides on the ice just like my States oh I missed that's okay because when you play sports if you miss you just have to try again like [Applause] this woo in event you'll win this right here is a specialty move it's called a knuckle Puck you take the puck put it down vertically like that and give it a whack woo yeah [Music] woo w learn about airplanes wait a second come here this is no normal airplane yeah this is a sea plane and sea planes can land and take off from the water [Music] wa woo oo check it out the sea plane just landed in the water and now it's getting towed up this ramp to this fork lift up here so then it can be hauled off and worked [Music] [Music] on [Music] W what a beautiful sea plane let's learn the exterior parts of the sea plane come [Music] on wao hey up here that is the cockpit and the main body that is the fuselage ooo and back here that is the empan oo check it out come up here oh come to the [Music] front whoa now that is a big engine W it looks like it has nine cylinders W and do you see this that is the propeller it spins around in a circle really fast wo oo and down here this is the exhaust waa check this out yeah sea planes are really unique because they have these These are floats one on each side and that is what allows the airplane to land on water perfect ooh and floats actually have cargo compartment check it [Music] out wao you can put all sorts of things in there like the fish you caught some baggage like luggage or even if it's really cold like up in Alaska you can even put coolant antifreeze in there so then and the water doesn't freeze around it w we have some steps oh hey and do you see these things look these yeah cables these cables are attached they run all over the place and then they go in the cockpit and when the pilot pushes the foot pedals it moves this this Rudder one on this side and one on the other side over there it moves it left and right so then you can steer the airplane while it's in the water whoa hey look look over here it looks like there's a paddle connected let's take it out W whoa see this paddle what it's used for is when you turn off the airplane you can paddle get nice and close to the shore or wherever you're going wo SE planes are so cool oh hey look at what's above me yeah just like a normal plane it has a giant Wing one on each side o and back here it has a horizontal stabilizer pin and a vertical stabilizer pin wowe and you cannot forget about the color look at how beautiful this aircraft is do you know what colors these are yeah it looks like red white and blue who look at the sea plane they have some big floats and Powerful propellers [Music] [Applause] [Music] woo hey look a giant hanger let's go check it out this hanger is the maintenance hanger this is where they maintain all of the sea planes W so big in here woo and the floor so smooth and shiny hey I know what that's good for [Music] dancing wow wo check it out a sea plane and the Sea plane's engine is exposed look wow yeah that looks like a really powerful engine oh hey and look floats I bet this sea plane can fly really fast really far and land on nice smooth water check it out there's so many cool things in this hanger woo like this W parts of an airplane W there's so many of them oh I wonder what all these parts are oh hey we know what these are yeah these are the rudds whoop wao another sea plane but this sea plane H look at it do you see something wrong H yeah yeah wait a second there's no engine I bet this seat plane does not go far does not go fast and does not go on water wow oh hey look yep every maintenance shop has to have a bicycle wao W that is a nice bicycle I don't know whose it is but it's sure cool wao speaking of cool look at this SE plane this SE plane has the motor and floats and a cockpit door wow it looks like it's ready to fly woo wo wo woah wo wo look right here a big red tool chest wow look there's so many tools jeez there's so many I don't I don't even know all of them oo look over here two giant floats and these are called rivets there's so many of them I bet there's hundreds wait no I bet there's thousands that's silly woo look a bunch of bolts wow there's so many kinds of bolts wow and they're nice and organized that's really convenient how organized they are okay let's see what else is around [Music] here more parts of a bunch of sea planes wao I don't know if these are the flaps or the a Rons or the horizontal stabilizer fins I have no idea but they're so cool check this out another sea plane but hey they're all at different stages in this one it has a motor wo that is so big and so powerful look inside oh but there's no propeller but look at the exterior there's no wings and there's no paint it's all sanded I bet they're redoing it to their liking I hope they pick two colors my two favorite colors to paint it can you guess my two favorite leash for younger kids that are just learning the snowboard we're helping on working balancing skills cool and we can adjust the length of it so I can make it a little bit longer if I wanted to stand out here you can bring it in close so what I'm doing is I'm propelling her across the snow as she hits all the cool features we have here going to keep balanc doing little jumps cool are you ready to yeah this is where you ride it to the top of the mountain first you have to put on one binding on the boot so you put in your boot right here then you strap it in make sure it's nice and tight and here here's the second strap see there's one two straps all right here I [Music] go it's almost my [Music] turn [Music] here I go closer wo all right all right now I'm off of the chair lift I have to put foot in see one's right here and one is right here for 2 ft all right we have two straps too okay the first strap is in and now the second strap is in here we go [Music] yeah I love snowboarding right let's head over to my snowboard and tune it that's where you make it really sharp and waxy so then you can go really fast hey here it is wo the first thing you have to do is take off the bindings this is where you put your feet all right so this is the top of the snowboard oo and this is the base of the snowboard see how there's some scratches in it yeah we are going to take those out grind it down and add some wax so the first machine is this machine this is the grinder machine see there's a grinder right there and a wheel that pushes it so let me turn on the water [Music] first all right here we [Applause] [Music] go W look at how smooth it is all right let me turn off the water W all right it's really smooth see it's kind of wet from the water so the next thing we have to do is grind the edges wo see this machine this machine is the grinder wow there's a little bit of sandpaper right there and it grinds the edges for this machine you need an expert so let's go get us an [Music] expert hello hello so this is Felipe he's going to take the snowboard and grind the [Applause] [Music] edges [Music] w wow thank you so much see you later see you all right so now the edges are really sharp we need to apply some wax but first let's dry off the board come here take paper towel wipe it down a bit all right there we go so now I have a really cool machine to show you come over here wao you see this this is a quick waxer see this is what applies the wax and then back here this is the buffer so first thing you have to do is take some wax some blue wax and run it right there which is really hot then take the [Music] snowboard wo all right now there's wax on the bottom now we need to buffer it here we go W yeah wow the snowboard is perfect now so now let's set it penguins oo a lot of people think that they need ice and snow but these guys live in Argentina and Chile in an environment that's very similar to here oo Argentina and Chile and so they love the swim it looks like huh they do these guys spend all winter out at Sea and they can swim really fast and they have to swim really fast so they can caves fish which is what they eat in the ocean oo like [Music] these W look at what it is it's a polar bear and polar bears are the color white that polar bear yeah his name is Boris and he's 31 years old Boris was rescued from a circus a traveling circus in Mexico and it's really important to have ice so polar bears can hunt off of and get get seals in the Arctic so we should be really aware of what we do to our planet so polar bears can have a lot of ice wo Boris is so pretty [Music] [Applause] wow W do you see what that is yeah that's a tiger that's a really big kitty cat that's actually a somatron tiger to be exact and there's only about 300 left on this entire planet in the wild so here at Point Defiance zoon Aquarium this tiger is an [Music] ambassador so this is Sarah hi and Sarah what do we have here this is gonzo and he is a tree climbing ant heater and here at point of Zo aquarium we're training him to be be part of our Wild Wonders Outdoor Theater show that's brand new this summer hey Gonzo so what are we going to yeah what are we going to be doing right now you're going to help me train Gonzo to eat vanilla yogurt from a tube so this is something that he will love to do hold that up right up to his little nose and he's going to slurp that vanilla yogurt right out with his super long tongue W check that out look at G so tongue it's so long now of course in the wild Gonzo would not eat vanilla yogurt he would eat ants and he has really big claws that he can use to break open ants nests and Termite mounds and then he' use his long tongue to slurp those bugs right up ooh yum that looks pretty tasty yeah so Gonzo has been around people his whole entire life and when he first came here we started training him to be part of the show so that's why he's so so comfortable hanging out with us out here yeah he seems like a really great and fun [Music] [Applause] [Music] anteater how's it going oh pretty good what are you doing I'm making some diets for the Mir cats Mir cats I love Mir cats what else are you going to do today well you know what I was going to do some enrichment do you want to help me yeah excellent let's go over to the exibit okay and what's enrichment enrichment is giving our animals choices things to do things to play with kind of like kids on a playground oo that sounds fun I like playing so let's give them some choices let's put these Whiffle balls and the blue pool on exhibit okay all right Whiffle balls blue pool got it wa look at this place this is the exhibit in the habit of where Mir cats play waa okay any who back to it Whiffle balls blue pool right okay let's put these in here this is going to be so much fun to see the Mir Pats play with these Whipple balls that we're putting in here he and the second one wow okay here we go let's see what else she wants us to do hey here you go thank you what else do you have for us well I've got some more fun toys let's put these out on the exhibit as well okay where should I put these wherever you want ooh this is going to be and 36 in or taller you can ride camels at Point Defiance Zoo they're really soft wow we are in the Marine Discovery Center and this place has amazing sea creatures and we can actually touch them see you can touch but with only one finger okay woo look at these right here W that was scary that scared me oo and look here's a snail hello hi little guy and hey little girl Hello W oh oh look at this over here one finger woo did you see it like attached to my finger here get a really good close oh look at how big this one is okay ready woo it attaches to your finger and it's so soft oh last but not least starfish w w they're really hard that's so cool and these are actually alive they're real sea creatures they don't move very much but they do move really slowly I really love the Marine Discovery [Music] lab [Music] yeah we are at a carousel come on hey [Music] horsey this is going to be so much fun see it's a Carousel and right here this is the instrument panel that turns on the we need to shake it and get all the air bubbles out of it and use this chocolate paint brush or a chocolate brush okay turn it on wo all right now that all of the air bubbles are out of here let's put it in the fridge hey do you know why we're putting it in the fridge yeah because remember earlier I said the chocolate is really warm and we need to cool it down so then it gets nice and hard chocolate is hard when it's cold see no chocolate on my fingers all right now the next step put it on this tray and we need to pop it out here we [Applause] [Music] go yeah look a chocolate bee be what other words can we think of that start with the letter B um Brown yeah this chocolate is the color brown what about be wo W yeah like a bumblebee okay let's put it in this box box also starts with the letter B okay bye-bye B There we go hey speaking of by boxing up chocolate check it out W okay wo look at what she's doing she's putting a lot of chocolate in all of these boxes wow good job let's complete the process so we need to take this box of chocolates put this pad on top and then this flyer bom's chocolates put it right on top and then let's put the top of the box on slide it inside the plastic push it onto the conveyor belt shut it oo perfect okay now we need to take this heat gun and this is called shrink wrap it tightens up the plastic makes it nice and tight there we go oh this is kind of fun wo wo yeah that's looking real good okay there we go let's flip it to the back and then once it's nice and warm and tight then you put on a bow yep just on the top then on the bottom and voila see got a beautiful box beautiful and Box start with the letter b and bomes does too now I can take it home [Music] woo ooh b l i p p i [Applause] [Music] flippy woo this candy looks so tasty H it's on a really long conveyor belt I wonder how it works oh can I try sure look over here let's take two pieces let's put one piece there and let's put the second piece right there and then it goes down this really long conveyor belt oh this adds chocolate to the bottom wow that's cool looking ooh and then it dries a little right here and it goes really slow you see how slow it's moving wow oh hey look another part that adds chocolate to the bottom wow that's really fascinating to watch now that there's two layers on the bottom the next part is right here what are you doing I'm covering the MERS with a lot of chocolate so there's no holes ooh so they're putting a lot of chocolate up top oh look that looks tasty meet me on the other side [Applause] W what are you doing I'm adding white chocolate snow to the meler ooh check it out white chocolate [Music] [Music] snow wo it's looking tastier and tastier and then right here it cools down and then meet me over [Music] here oo what are you doing putting these on the putting these chocolates on the tray oh these chocolates that are complete now go on the tray watch w wow check him out yum look at them they're like little triangles with some snow on top just like Mount rineer wow yum ooh look I have some chocolate in this plastic tube I cut the bottom off and now I can make a masterpiece ready um wao it's coming out okay let's draw a triangle oh there we go good job now how about a rectangle ooh that rectangle kind of looks like a chocolate bar hey here's a chocolate bar let's spell my name together ready b l i p p i yeah look blippy that looks tasty what else can we draw I know a bunch of squiggly lines wo W there we go when that dries it's going to be super tasty W wo look at this this is a giant bar of chocolate wo it's really heavy W jeez have you ever seen a bar of chocolate this big I sure haven't okay what I'm about to do is going to get really messy so the first thing we have to do is wear an apron perfect so let's tie it on the [Music] back oo now that I have an apron on woo we can smash this bar of chocolate but hey this looks like a hammer right but this isn't a normal Hammer this Hammer is only used to smash this big bar of chocolate ready yeah yeah that was awesome one more another one there we go now it's in a lot smaller pieces but still really big so let's take this over to the heater but first we need to take the cover off of the heater and then oh look they did it for me thank you oo check out check it out look wo that looks like some tasty chocolate this heats up the chocolate so then it melts all right here we go look all right let's put the tray back and then we need to take this big bowl and put it right down here because when I open this a lot of melted chocolate's going to come out ready wo wo that looks so tasty wo it's really heavy okay let's take the chocolate up here and what we're going to do is make some rocky road do you know what rocky road is really tasty all right so since that chocolate was really warm we let this cool down just for a little bit see here's some tasty chocolate that's just slight cooler all right so we have some chocolate and then we take some nuts looks pretty good and then we also take some marshmallows let's put the marshmallows in first and we mix them all up together W okay here we go wo look wo yep you have to mix the chocolate and the marshmallows really good together so then you see no white you only see chocolate we're almost [Music] there oo all right looks pretty well mixed do you see that looks like chocolate covered marshmallows all right now we need to put the nuts in there so let's sprinkle them in Stir It Up okay here we go let's Stir It [Music] Up ooh now that looks tasty all right so the next thing we have to do is take it out and put it on the table it's going to get really messy see so the first thing we should do is put on these really big gloves look how big these gloves are they go all the way up my arm wo then let's put on this other one okay wo I have two giant gloves on one two and then let's put another set of these small gloves on now we are ready let's give it one last [Music] stir okay let's put the mixing spoon right over there and what we're trying to make our really big logs that look like this do you see this wo that looks tasty so let's take this put it on the table make it into a really long Mound [Music] ready it feels so mushy and it smells so [Music] tasty here we go this is so much fun okay there's a little bit more okay this is a bowl that I sure want to lick okay little bit more all right I think that's all of it so put that right there and now I'm going to shape it into a really long Mountain type of shape that has a mound oh does that look good or does that look good all right so now what we do is let it dry and then we enjoy good [Music] job [Music] check it out now that's what I call Rocky [Music] Road ooh do you see what I'm doing I am washing my hands and I'm washing them really good because what I'm about to do requires me to use my hands all right let's dry them off real quick this is going to be fun all right now my hands are really clean so I'm going to use my hands as thermometers do you know what thermometers are thermometers help you check the temperature come through here wo and the temperature of this chocolate that I'm going to use is really important and that's why I'm not using any gloves so I can touch the chocolate and make sure the temperature is perfect do you see this chocolate right here it's really warm so let's take some and put on the table yeah just like that perfect I'll put that right there and then you spread it around just like this and what we're doing right here here is making truffles W she's really good go [Music] look wow that's fascinating see I'm moving my hand around the chocolate to make sure it's the perfect temperature all right feels pretty perfect to me so then with my left hand I'm going to grab some of this peanut butter and I'm going to take some of this white stuff put it right there spread it around oh I have to keep moving my right hand it's pretty tricky it's kind of like rubbing your belly and patting your head at the same time okay let's see it's really hard and it feels so smooth okay that's going to be the closest I can get to it see kind of looks like a perfectly round circle ball okay let's put it in my hand oh W okay and then looks like I put it on this tray just like what she's doing and do a little swirl yeah that looks pretty good let's make the next one a little bit bigger all right I'm not very good but practice makes perfect okay here we go all right throw it in my hand again oo all right here we go wo that one has a lot of chocol [Applause] chocolate here we go go watch her [Music] again all right I'll make one last one here we go swirl it around put it right there let's squeeze some chocolate on top wo that looks like a tasty truffle all right now that I'm all done let's go wash my hands again let's go over here okay W all right like I said I'm all done and those chocolates are going to be so tasty vehicle a steering wheel a shifter knob a set of keys but we're not here for driving we're here for ice cream wow this big white thing right here this is the freezer let's open it up W look at all allowed me to move him to different position so I could see different parts of his body um having him stand up is not only impressive to see how big a tiger is um but it gives me the chance to see his Underside cuz just like us they can get injuries like cuts and bruises so it lets me check up on his body to make sure he's still feeling good ooh well thank you so much for showing me what you just
