Blackout Box ~ Be Prepared when the Power goes Out

hey everyone it's jenny from homestead corner and today i thought we'd talk a little bit about a blackout ball so today i thought we would go over these little blackout boxes these are so handy and easy to put together they're super easy to do and we just keep this under the sink and it's just there next to all the cleaning supplies and everything um we just keep it under there so if the lights go out we've got a box we can grab instantly we keep little lanterns and stuff around the house but usually someone is right in the kitchen and this is handy you can grab this and it's got a bunch of stuff in here to get you started if there's a blackout so i don't like big huge bags a lot of people do big giant bags but these ammo cans fit just about anywhere they are so small and they're really inexpensive i think this one came from walmart for about five bucks and um i buy a few of these when i go and see them because they're just super handy they're great in the car the great all over the place and they're small and uh so let's look inside and see what i've got in here we just love these boxes they're so easy and handy and they're thin and small and they fit everywhere so that is a great thing so inside here i've just got everything put in here so it's handy and i can grab it real quick i've got just an easy flashlight i always make sure the batteries are good in there this one has a usb charger so um we can plug it in and charge it that way and it holds a charge for a super long time and this is one of our favorites the gold armor we love those i'll put links to some of these products down below if you're looking for anything like that if you're curious where they came from but um but that's one of our favorites that flashlight and then also an emergency blanket if the power goes out the electricity is usually going to go out as well so that's you wanna this will get you through um get you set up real quick so if it starts to get cold you've got an emergency blanket um you could put one for each family member in here and if you wanted to do that and also if you have a generator and you might be running outside if the power's out there more than likely is bad weather outside so emergency poncho is another great item to have in here and that works really well i put these little lanterns in i love these lanterns they're so easy they're led the batteries last forever and you just pull up the top and this can definitely be the first thing you pop out and you've got light to see what's in the box so those are great little lanterns um a candle just a regular beeswax candle and uh i've got that in there and let's see i've got some tea lights in here candles will also help create heat in a smaller room you can set up a bunch of candles and it will create a little bit of heat super glue a lot of times things break something like that you've got it handy i love these small ones because they're just single use i always get the ends all gummed up and they never work again anyway so and then a pair of hot hands if you've got to go outside and freezing cold weather these are great to have in here a little bit of fire starter this is just some lint this is going to catch fire really easy if i've got to start a fire um a headlamp i personally prefer the headlamp over flashlights my husband loves the flashlight i love headlamps because no matter where you look you've got light and your hands are free and you can do everything else that's my favorite a book of matches and a lighter in case one of them fails there's something else and that is it in this little kit it's just for a quick grab get some light get a little bit heat going um if you got to run out and get that generator started or you've got a window that breaks or something you've got to run outside you've got a little bit of stuff to get you started obviously you probably have a lot more around the house but this is so handy you could just reach in grab the box and you have got it right there and these ammo cans are perfect they're nice and lightweight i love them and that's it for this video do you keep a blackout box in your house or a grid down or electricity out or i don't know what you would call it you could call it all kinds of things really but um but do you keep one and what other kinds of things do you keep in there this is just for a quick grab under the sink and we've got it and a little bit of stuff to get us started right away so if we have to run quickly outside or you know we want to get the lights on quickly so we can see especially a lot of times the power goes out at night in the evening you know when you're cooking dinner that always makes it fun but this really is so simple and if you guys have one you call it
