This helped me understand it a little bit more. I think what was most revealing for me was the speculation on what black performers in blackface might have been thinking. Sort of a wink to other black people that white people require the stupidest things to make them laugh. Secretly empowering. I like the idea that black people took over the artform for themselves. And did it better!

I don't like that they included examples of people dressing up like famous people that happened to have another skin color. To me at least, that has nothing to do with blackface

I’ve never been a fan of retrospectively changing history. Racism is bad but people didn’t think like we do now.
