hey what's going on welcome to another episode of an ongoing Series where we basically take the camera anywhere we want to try to find secrets and new discoveries to some of our favorite games and now we are returning to the Mansion Luigi's Mansion for those that got autop played into this video last time we checked out this game was 7 years ago so there's a lot more content that I was able to find this time around and I'm pretty excited to show this one off so let's go all right the first thing I want to talk about is the first thing you see in the video's thumbnail it is this weird bouncing object all the way in the back of the map during this incredibly brief cut scene it's all very hard to get captured footage for because the camera is bouncing around just as much as this object is so by slowing down the game footage we can catch it all in time and what I've learned what this is is it's apparently the straps for the Poltergust 3000 now why is it not attached to Luigi there's a couple of theories maybe the animators thought it would look better without the straps maybe the straps were causing issues during the animations and so it just moved to a different part of the map where it wouldn't be seen by the the player the only thing that I do know that's very very strange is that the straps sort of do a bouncing animation up and down it doesn't seem to be animation as tied to the character model it seems to be doing its own independent bouncing motion so that to me is incredibly wild and I'm not sure why they chose to go in that direction but it makes for really good out of- bounds content for sure also it should be stated that in this cut scene there is unused animation of Luigi looking terrified and walking up to the mansion itself this is all happening off camera as the camera would normally have a closeup on Professor EAD and here's also something else that was out of control so one of the earliest cut scenes you see once you go inside the Mansion is this key that's floating in the air obviously being held by one of the ghosts and then dropped on the rug now here's something I didn't know about this Cuts scene a higher res texture for the rug is placed in the scene so it looks nicer when the camera's focused on it and what's even more wild than that is that it gets moved out of bounds but not perfectly in fact anyone that plays Luigi's Mansion should be able to see a tiny little bit of clipping of the rug in this corner of the room and this only happens just after the cut scene so don't try to look for it later or before how do I know that this is the same rug that was using in that cut scene well if you look behind the wall just after that cut scene you can see the cut scene key is sort of clipped both out of bounds and inside the wall and yeah speaking of things that are clipping into other things the Poltergust 3000 must be pretty uncomfortable for Luigi because inside of the polter gust as well as inside of Luigi himself is a third wheel to the polter gust the thing is literally digging into Luigi's back and since we're still on this subject let's also talk about Luigi's hair it's always on Luigi's model at any given time so while future games do this sort of thing where it culls out hair or replaces the model with a model head with hair Luigi's Mansion does something completely different here yes when you get hurt or if you get burned Luigi might take off his hat or you can see it phasing through his invisible is model but if you took the camera inside the Hat even when none of those things are going on you can see that he still has his hair and taking the model into a model viewer can show you the shape of his hair that is even used in the game which it's not great it it's I appreciate that they did something like this but also wow things have gotten a lot better for the Mario Brothers Hair I'll tell you that and the same can be said for Professor EAD too he also has something that he's hiding it's his actual eyeballs through those mostly opaque glasses is a texture that shows what his eyes would actually look like which is two black dots with a lot of wrinkles a similar character in Wind Waker also has the same effect though I did not take him in a model viewer it would just take too much time but his eyes were black with little lines on the top to probably represent [Music] eyelashes anyways let's take a tour through his lab here to the right there is a door that says training room as well as some sort of screen that has a depiction of Luigi sucking up a ghost there also seems to be a monitor in the background here that uses two different types of green lines this was changed in the remake to have what looks like some sort of coating instead also the door to the training room doesn't say training room anymore in the remaster it says nothing it's just garbled mess here's something that's also cool when you pause the game there's a boo that's hiding behind the texture of Luigi walking through the Mansion for the first time however if we remove that texture you could see that there is a full texture of the boo itself and for those wondering yes even the other screen where you go to quit has multiple ghosts and they also have full textured bodies as well now let's talk about those close-up shots with Luigi's hands whenever you get a new key or you're trying to go through a lock door it cuts this scene where Luigi puts his hand on a knob these are all highquality models which means that when you Pan the camera out the rest of Luigi's body doesn't exist this is of course to save on resources but also as a quick aside not every door has this door frame and in fact I don't think any door in Luigi's Mansion uses this door frame where it has like a rounded top so it might be like a beta asset that was just used for for these scenes since the camera never goes that high anyway it's kind of weird though makes these doors sort of look like saloon doors instead and speaking of that there's also a scene at the very beginning of the game where Luigi looks at a map that takes him to the mansion and he's using both of his hands for that once again the model is not there but there's also no fade away for the arms either which is sort of like a weird thing to have for the other scenes to be honest with you but anyways here you don't see that effect at all you can also see where the map goes when he goes to put it down just sort of clips into the map and then disappears also this effect is used at the very end of the game when Luigi goes to grab the Mario painting funny enough though here you get to see both the regular Luigi model and the arm model in the same shot finally making their debut together it's also neat to see that the animation of him lifting up the painting is already in the process of happening before the camera Cuts away to show him lifting up the painting to the player anyways let's continue clipping into things and looking at models when you're not supposed to here's toad crying or is he yes there's tears yes there's hands in his face but just like any any truly manipulative person when you take the hands away you can see that toad is smiling obviously the real reason here is that why bother animating a sad toad when you have his hands in his face and his head pointed down in a game that doesn't really give you a lot of camera control and let's talk about Mario when you deportation IE Mario I think that's a word that the game would allow me to use you have this moment here where his body is still inside the machine and for some reason his head is super duper tiny it shrinks down actually in real time before it shoots out of this device here what makes that really interesting though is that basically the frame that you see Mario his head is already full sized again so the whole process is just a little bit strange I guess you could shrink the head down just so it doesn't clip into the device's exterior part of the model but his head was already big to begin with before its head started shrinking down so I don't know what's going on here and then there's this scene where Luigi sees Mario's portrait for the first time it's all a cut scene it's again the the camera pans around quite a bit so so it's a little difficult to get these shots but what you learn here is that Luigi is not simply walking up to the lion's mouth he has to slide in horizontally so his body's essentially petrified from the neck down and then there's this fight with Phantom Bowser and he sucks up Luigi into his body here's something that's really really fun I had to slow down the footage astronomically slow in order to catch this but we can look at the last frame of what Luigi looks like just before he basically calls out inside the body of Bowser what you get is a complete mess of geometry his nose is missing everything's just sort of collapsing itself it's really really funny okay let's talk about one of the first cut scenes you see in the game when you get introduced to EAD for the first time just going to commentate here Luigi gets encountered with a ghost gets terrified beyond measure which by the way I want to show you what that looks like from another angle there you go that's a special moment right there and then egad comes in to save the day all with Luigi standing side by side to get introduced now I want to show you what happens from another angle while Luigi is getting scared by the ghost initially you can see e Gad just standing there in the middle of the room without the Poltergust 3000 but the poter Gus 3000 is still in the room it's actually over by the fine china cabinet it's just stored underneath there then Luigi's model gets put over behind the table in a way that looks like it was warped there which makes the next sequence pretty funny because once EAD is finishing up his scene that same Luigi model starts sliding into the next position that Luigi was supposed to be in this is one of the most haphazardly put together cutcenes I've seen on this show I love it now for things that are just stored out of bounds for some reason and I don't believe that this is attributed to culling cuz I checked the adjacent area and it's not there but the room where you release the booze for the first time there is a poster of a musical ghost this poster is used in other parts of the game but for some reason it's stored out here as well also as far as floating objects out of bounds there seems to be some sort of developer trigger area that gets represented by a singular gold coin you can find a singular gold coin in just about every single room if not every room just sometimes is a little hard to find because there's a bounding box that will hide geometry that's far enough out of bounds but from my experience I've found these gold coins in quite a few different areas the area that we've been looking at in case you didn't pay attention was the ghost portf foration room that's used when you finish a chapter and speaking of that room let's talk about a couple of different things starting with the fact that when you finish getting all the portraits and then it jumps to another screen there are actually two Luigi in a single instance the first one for whatever reason spawns right in front of the viewing glass only to get completely masked outside of his own Poltergust 3000 I say it's masked because if you look at the Poltergust from certain angles you can see the outline of Luigi in spite of the fact that you can't actually see him and all that being said here's a wide shot to show you the other Luigi that's normally used in this cutscene and also a lot of people I remember in the original episode was hoping to find out what would happen if you took the camera inside of this machine that takes the go ghost Sprite and turns it into a portrait well you can see the exact moment in which the ghost Sprite is just basically transformed into a portrait but nothing really special beyond that and now let's talk about miniature displays often times throughout this game eat is in the lower right hand side with the Game Boy horror and what's really really cool is that a flat texture and half of the egad model is just placed behind this texture that represent the Game Boy horror so manipulating the camera while moving around in its own separate plane can be seen in a 3D space and there's other instances of this in the game as well Mario for example when you first see him that is a 3D model and not a looping 2D animation and so if you move the camera up down left and right and everywhere in between you can see his shoes and his legs something that you would never be able to see from this Mario in the game and of course when you get to the end of the game there's this little trick here that summons Bowser not only is everything below his torso gone but his hands are missing as well and since we're on the subject about her I did want to show you another thing with this giant phony here if you move to a certain part of the map or just move too far away from him in general this Bowser will jump up in the sky and fall back down now in most games I've noticed that when a model does this they tend to just disappear or get cull out before just placed somewhere else on the map but not this one no if you take the camera out you can see that the model still exists in the plane and is literally sliding to the player I was very very surprised by this it was really cool to look at too now let's try to find some hidden details throughout the environment like this over here yes you can find this in different areas of the game but it's very hard to see it here in this storage area and you can see that there's various items written out in English like cheese with a missing e and sometimes the text is reversed leaving food to look more like boof one shot that was very very difficult to get cuz once again this shot of the Mansion I tell you I wish there was a time in the game where you can just look out the window and see the Mansion for what it is but no you don't really get that in this game it's pretty much relegated to this cut scene in the opening cut scene so with that said I've had to meticulously try to get my way inside of egad's Little Shack here and taking the camera inside we'll show you that it's got textures on all sides as well as various exterior posts that sort of just jam through the building but sadly there's no extra details that would be significant to the player the only significant texture I would say is the floorboards which don't need to exist and then we got this moment when you're in the Attic if you move Luigi up to the window you could see some exterior but obviously you get to see so little of it so Pan the camera out will show you that yes there's a lot more detail here than the player allowed to see but but still not as much as I'm sure a lot of players were hoping they'd be able to see and this room in particular is really bizarre so there's a lot you could see outside that window you're supposed to be able to see the balcony as well as a view of the graveyard and if you go into the Game Boy horror camera mode there's a lot more detail here in fact there's more detail here in some areas than you would see if you were actually outside there trying to catch some extra details like the roof I was shocked by this I was also shocked by the fact that the windows are opaque on the opposite side I absolutely couldn't believe that [Music] now I also wanted to pan the camera out for the first boss's room seeing as it's supposed to be a crib essentially or a bassinet and there is a texture on the bottom that the player wouldn't be able to see but I think we can all agree it's not as Fantastical as we were kind of hoping it would be that's okay something that's really cool that I wanted to share with you guys though is that it seems to be that for every single boss fight except for the last boss if I was to extract all the textures in this room for some reason there is a texture of a GameCube before the final revision of the console indicated by the fact that it has a window to the disc why this happens I have no idea because I've tried to find this texture anywhere I've tried to decipher it maybe out of the sky box or look inside of every little piece of geometry to find it somewhere but no it must be one of those textures that is turned invisible or cull out and if anybody is really good at this sleuthing stuff please by all means reach out to me to help me figure out why this happens or where it might be on this map I would love to know and then we got ourselves a viewer request as always I let you know what episodes coming up and give you guys an opportunity to let me know what you want to see in the episode and so the viewer request this time around was about the warping sequence when you use the Game Boy horror on a mirror normally there's like a blue light that shines over the player's perspective and then suddenly you're in the lobby well if we move the camera outside of the boundaries and look down on it you can see that that blue light is just a simple composition of blue textures but the warping itself is actually pretty dull with the only exception being that for a very very brief moment all the environment for the main entrance area is essentially called out with the exception of the doors as well as various little knickknacks then of course we got the observatory room wanted to show you how far away that Moon actually is and I'm sure a lot of you might be disappointed to find out that the Moon is actually really really freaking close and the cool little gag that the developers put in place is that the meteors that you shoot at the Moon just get shrunken down really really small very very quickly to give the illusion of depth but the this is a rare instance where the game genuinely throws you into its own void without those Stars you are walking into the void of the game also this is one of those moments in the game where just before you go into the observatory if you don't solve the puzzle correctly it warps you to the other side of the room that you were going to enter from so I wanted to take the camera pan that out and show you what that looks like from out of bounds and the coolest thing of all is that it does load the room as Luigi's opening the door and it also loads the hallway when Luigi just kind of spit back out from the other side two things I was very surprised to see also for this training room you got these series of pipes and while the developer does intend the player to kind of see this little object here it's so brief and so pulled away you can't really see what it is and I mean even if you put the camera up close it's still kind of hard to tell what the environment artist was going for here it's got this circular but rigid object that has sort of like a indentation in the center it honestly looks somewhat like a pie that someone punched in the middle now here's something that's a little more technical for you there seems to be a use of projection for these two hallways for some reason reason or another when Luigi isn't stepping into either one of these hallways the camera position sort of dictates a projection for both of them and by moving the camera around we kind of destroy that illusion and you can also see the exact moment as to where Luigi steps into the hallway essentially calls in that hallway I'm not even convinced that the developers needed to do this it almost seems like an exercise in exploring Tech being that this is a launch title for the Game Cube I wouldn't be surprised if there was some experimentation involved for no other reason than experimentation so it can be used in later projects another viewer request was they wanted to know what happens when the booze Escape into another room and it's not interesting there you go Boop gone alternatively here's the ceiling ghost here and I just wanted to show you what the full model looks like because when you suck it up you only get like a couple of frames before it sucked into your vacuum so wanted to show you what that looks like while it's in full size this is a stupid fast one I wanted to show you guys but when Luigi inspects this sign he says it says here lies Mr Bones quiet but clearly on the sign it says something different and yeah yeah the texture is completely distorted a lot of the textures in this game kind of are but believe it or not it doesn't say skeleton as the first word the entire phrase reads out as skeleton is buried here and here's the original texture so that you can get an idea of what it's supposed to look like also the menus for Luigi's Mansion use real 3D models as well not 2D animation so taking the camera up and around can show you that it can be manipulated as well also if you look at the ghost portra fication iser you can see these ghosts here that seem to be used from a beta version of L Mansion it looks as though they may be playing poker or something or just sitting in front of a dinner table and there's also a flat 2D texture of Mario that's being used here he's actually in his signature jumping pose and you can see the unmanipulated version of Mario's texture right here as it was extracted from the game and placed into a folder and that's all for now here's another look at the distorted Luigi model hope you give the channel a subscribe there's lots of Nintendo content that we cover here that's already been covered as well as going to be covered in the future so I hope that you stick with me in the channel but if not thanks for stopping by I appreciate you take care
