BIOSPINE - reimagining rehabilitation after spinal cord injury

[Music] i think you know we shoot for the stars and we'll get to somewhere pretty amazing so in five years i really hope to have a working therapy that's restored function in people and maybe in five years i'll be standing up talking to you about this these kind of thought-activated therapies with pharmacology and electrical stimulation we have evidence that it works the concept of biospine is tackling all the neural pathways that are known to promote neural restoration we have a rehabilitation device we are using a brain computer interface that reads the electrical activity of the brain we are interpreting that data using artificial intelligence that thought is then sent to a digital twin of the person the digital twin controls the rehabilitation devices making the rehabilitation happen in a way that is consistent to our able-bodied person would move what we are doing is actually providing sensory feedback we are creating a an extended reality environment to provide these signals back to the person so the person is more empowered has control over the reputation and understand there is that missing connection is being re-established we have taken such a patient-driven focus from the start for obvious reasons me being a patient so what we really want is a end result that will change lives we started from very humble beginnings but we are still maintaining momentum we've got an amazing team and the technology is coming leaps and bounds griffith university has a great deal of expertise we can have people coming to learn these techniques and people using us as a hub to go back around the world and to apply these new rehabilitation techniques i don't know how i got so lucky actually how lucky am i to be in this place at this time in this institution in this see it's just everything just fell into place it almost seems like fate [Music]
