so welcome welcome to the new season of life from Daryl's house here we are in the house and you notice I got to be a sharp-dressed man today because Billy Gibbons is coming and I got to look good for Billy man I can't wait to start playing some rock and roll some Texas style rock and roll with Billy and it's gonna be a fantastic show everybody's here the band's here I got a new member to talk to you about later and we're gonna have a good time and we're gonna rock [Music] [Music] okay I'm heading up to Daryl's house can I get a lift I think it's too far it's a little cold let me get in yeah well thanks for the lift man I've been walking since that last town Oh Daryl still here man I've been kind of anxious to start spanking the plank a little bit well what's good about today getting to work is something that I don't often get to do which is playing in a very intimate setting and of course he's surrounded by some of the best musicians on the planet so much more to ask for it he sings hi man I hate them low notes I want to hear him sing a high note he's got it going on violin ated so good to see ya really good to see you you came up here it's gonna be good it's gonna be great I'm going to make some loudness with you this is a good place to do it you sing behind all sounds I'll take whatever is left okay yeah I know that this is so casual I kind of I dressed down for these days well I see I dressed up okay that's that's nice all right so now y'all clap on the one and I'm just started on [Music] juice juice juice goes down sir i won [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] next what became known as the video era started off with a complete non designed unplanned uprising in that period of the 80s when video was just really in its infancy hollow notes videos ZZ Top videos or really what was happening you know and then they really sort of made their bones on on these unusual videos pretty girls and fast cars at night for a good good combo okay still rolling [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] dear [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] let's have a party take one [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] I consider it one of the great American art forms you can't deny that a blues which there are threads that you can find and country meet early country music you can find it in jazz there is this kind of starting point called blues I think it's great [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] the transition from the beginning which I think would be a little bluesier it had the morphing into something it was unpredicted however simplicity is probably one of the more difficult elements to put out the top what we do keep it simple same swear you guys same three chords as long as it sounded like ZZ tough we didn't care [Music] [Music] [Music] speaking of influences we can't leave out Jimi Hendrix I moving sidewalks that miraculously wound up being hired to be added to the Jimi Hendrix Experience tour way way back and to attempt to explain or describe what that experience is like is define I don't know if there are words out there just yet I can say this Jimmy did things with the guitar that certainly the designers had no idea of what would later come under his expertise [Music] [Music] [Music] let's have a bar [Music] they got through it [Music] [Music] a whiskey sour beer and gin [Music] leave me [Music] [Music] no remind [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] not [Music] [Music] No [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] she said [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Oh what do you think it was good I I could use a little more vocals I under screaming today we have a treat man we got Mexican radio his restaurant in Hudson this restaurant Schenectady and a restaurant in New York City Laurie Silva she's the Executive Chef and Billy is going to what are you gonna do man you gonna bake some guacamole I think so yeah you got to make me some guacamole I've been to Mexican radio I've been a fan for a long long time and here we are live at Daryl's house you go man and we're going to get started yes why what does I want to know your version man because there are many versions of guacamole renegade walk all right okay all right start with avocados coming along as you're gonna use from all that avocado so just what you helped us shake this is lime juice oh okay I was gonna say that you'd be squeezing limes forever so we'll take some garlic some of the big truthful doing here you have some cheesy garlic they're already chopped up right done we're done that's one of my favorites got a BC long yes I love cilantro all right we'll do an extra helping yeah they're all that really one for better yeah there you go extra one we've got tomatoes chopped everybody like bell pepper oh yeah sure cumin some people say well what is Cayman it's a very earthy flavor it does happen alone with its delightful smoked paprika smoked paprika black pepper never hurts again music fun Darrell's house we gotta have some black pepper to spice it up onion Errol and I talked about this earlier said renegade Waccamaw because what yes and what we have here is a version of come queso it's a Mexico ha this is okay I was looking at down at the spy on that oh yeah okay so we'll take I see and it adds if this is what changes it it adds a little textural smooth rounds it out line it from way way back what's that it's a homemade version some people call it tomato ketchup duck call it who made tomato okay this country just just up - I've never seen ketchup in this or okay so man oh yeah laughter for a little texture to it yeah me too I don't like it - I think we're very yeah that looks right to me now there's one final ingredient and I see we have alone gotta know where your pops office I'm your hot sauces and in German and I hear you dude you don't have enough money to buy it oh we can't uh I'd like to know what kind of hot sauce that is there okay don't you use that this is actually a local local ingredients that's from Rhinebeck New York so just up the road hot sauce called horseshoes this is an extra extra extra you know triples that we got to be careful I thought I don't know how hot that really is but it's hot okay then consider that okay that's ready gave a big round of applause for Darrell and Mexican radio go for it [Music] well yeah you go in the kitchen you cook you come out into the performance room you cook again followed by cooking it'll be a count he's out on the one we're in on the one hand so it's one two three four one two three four it's more into the one I have it be 1 2 3 4 - 1 2 3 [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] girls crazy bottles [Music] Oh right - charges man [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] girls really buy - ah [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] and when the invitation arrived give me 30 seconds I think [Music] and my two partners dusty hill with the beard go figure this one out after four decades the drummer the math clean-shaven drummer Franklin beer right that when you go up there can you tell them to teach your side of singles I wouldn't even know where to begin comes from down yeah yeah that's what it does it comes for the diaphragm alright alright let's do it okay let's see Ellis let's go and then we can ZZ top started off as a rock blues band we decided that we would give it a shot to try and create an interpretation and of course the Lagrange one of the cornerstone expressions of blues is you know that good old boogie beat [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Oh [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] can I kind of have a go at the guitar that she played they said genius Springs are so light this is almost to the point of ridiculous I used to believe the bluesman played the heaviest strings possible which was not actually the case that assured with BB King I was go and BB and I shared a dressing room and he just very courteously said I'd like to play your guitar for once and you can play mine and I've jumped at the chance she was this great well he picked the guitar that I was walking out on stage with and he said he strings a little heavy and I said he is not the heavy strings the way you get that big sound he said well he said my question to you is why are you working so hard get some light gauge strings and that was the turning point at that time baby was one of the first exponents of the first wave of light gauge strings which was point zero zero eight on the high hand I went to point zero zero seven baby said that's okay [Music] [Music] Wow they don't get nobody I can't get much better than that we were on tour just a couple of weeks ago we passed through Roswell New Mexico heading to Mescalero New Mexico called ahead and and the hotel said no can you kill some time we're not quite we won't be ready when you arrive so we pulled into Roswell you know fly UFO flight the flying famous flying saucer crash in 1947 and I'm sleeping in the back of the bunk and there was the you visit the UFO museum big big billboards and I'm sleeping they rattle in my cage come on man we're gonna go see the UFO Musa said dude I'm married to a girl from Alabama hop alien [Laughter] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] maybe there [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] our Billy Gibbons and the new guy Shane Theriot Darryl has hand-picked some of the finest musicians that make this an enjoyable experience I mean we come in set up and it was it was just hit it and quit it was great [Music] I think the real moment to treasure was dredging down deep and finding a couple things that have been lurking that may not immediately come to mind when you when you think of what Darrell is doing but I didn't have a problem with that it was great [Music] of course then we went out to the kitchen and those influences your guide my pal Guy Fieri the pukin Rachael Ray so many of these other influences you got Bobby Flay Gordon Ramsay mr. urban and the anti Burrell these are also just as important we we do what we can do you got to pay homage to those that aren't just just the way it is I think this is the show it was a fantastic show my new friend Billy Gibbons right here my new friend Mike and the new friend Martino and my new new friend here Shane Terry oh this is fantastic very happy they have done this live Daryl's house season next okay [Music]
