good morning everyone how are you all doing I'm mystical and today I'll be bringing you the latest in AR and VR news we have quite a few things to talk about today as usual you've got chapters down below to skip to whichever part of the video that you actually want to see but with all that being said let's jump right into the first piece of news first thing it was we have some Quest 3 leaks and these are some Quest 3 leaks that a lot of people have been very excited for they're called augments augments were originally announced during connect of 2023 they were described as persistent spatially anchored digital objects it sounded like augments will essentially be mixed reality widgets but a connect we didn't hear any specifics about how augments will actually work last week a technical filmmaker posted two videos to their Vimeo account showcasing Quest 3 augments one from a user perspective and the other from a developer perspective the videos appear to have been posted by mistake as they've now been taken down but they were saved and sent to upload VR by VR Enthusiast Luna the videos show a much greater degree of interactivity and functionality than the connect announcement suggested and hint that augments will be fully-fledged mini apps that can run in the quest home interface the first video shows three example augments a playable miniature pinball game an interactive calendar and a pet-like virtual plant that can be watered the second video shines a light on how these augments actually work on a technical level in case you guys want to read the full article or are more interested in augments a link to this upload VR article will of course be down below how cool would that be being able to have these spatially anchored augments all around your room I find this really really cool and I was actually just talking to the Discord yesterday about in the future when we do have really tiny form factor AR glasses you will probably be able to put augments onto your character and anyone else also wearing AR glasses would be able to see those augments or I don't know you can call them Cosmetics if you want so yeah augments have been leaked and hopefully will be coming to us quite quite soon but augments are not the only thing we should be looking forward to in quest 3 mixed reality mixed reality on the quest 3 is getting more realistic object shadows and highlights this is one of the things that is super important in AR for the object the virtual object to actually blend in with real life and if meta can get this down right I think it could look really impressive from mixed news at meta connect 2023 meta announced the Mr utility kit a collection of useful functions prefabs tools and features designed to simplify and accelerate the development of mixed reality apps the software has now been released for Unity and unreal and includes an exciting new feature called pass through relighting pass through relighting allows developers to easily add shadows and highlights to digital objects the former ensures that digital objects cast realistic looking shadows in the physical environment while the latter is a light source that casts light on the physical environment meta describ Des cries the benefits of pass through relighting for developers as follows previously creating the illusion of Shadows and highlights on pass through has been a technically complex process requiring computer Graphics expertise now with the release of p through relighting we are offering developers reusable components samples comprehensive documentation and design guidelines past relighting demonstrates and simplifies the process to adjust Real World Lighting to match elements of the virtual world now that's quite interesting in the images it does actually look like there is a real life light shining and the quest is casting shadows in the correct direction so I really hoping that this is the case as it does look really nice in the screenshots highlights will also add a lot because they should allow virtual objects that emit any form of a light source to have that light source throw into the real world so you can see here the two images here on the left we have no highlights on pass through and on the right we've got highlights on pass through from the virtual glowing flower and you can see that there's this glow emitted onto the ground essentially making the object blend in with the real world I think this is really really cool and I cannot wait to start seeing this in more augmented reality applications here's one that a lot of people are excited for as Citra VR brings the Nintendo 3DS emulator to Quest next week Citra is an open- Source Nintendo 3DS emulator for Windows that's development started in 2013 because of the dolphin emulator's legal issues on Steam Watson tells upload VR that Citra VR is open Beta will Skip applab and the main store releasing on side quest and GitHub next week once sideloaded Citra starts with a 2d panel in the quest home interface for managing and selecting games transitioning into a full app upon launching one the virtual top screen renders the game in stereoscopic 3D as on the console itself though you can already use Citra on PC VR including streaming to Quest Citra VR runs natively on Quest as an open XR application while while the touch controller's default mapping makes most of the games on the platform playable Citra VR also supports thirdparty wired USB and wireless Bluetooth controllers for games requiring more inputs that I think is really cool article will of course be down below in case you're interested to see what the developer has to say and how you can legally get your Nintendo 3DS titles onto the emulator again I think this is really cool I'm all up for you know game preservation and in case you already own the title and just want to play it in a different way I think you should be allowed to do so after all you paid for the game it is your game now on to the Vision Pro as the Apple Vision Pro in store demos will start on launch day and could last up to 25 minutes that's quite a while for a demo before they actually set it up on you get the right strap get the right facial interface since they do want to be doing that it seems they do have different sizes of all these adjustments it's going to take a while so realistically I do wonder how much time you're you're actually looking at today Bloomberg's Mark German who reliably reported many details of the upcoming headset before it was officially revealed or even acknowledged to Exist by Apple has more details on Apple's inore demo plans German reports that actual demos will start on launch day not just signups the biggest Apple Stores will have a dedicated area for the demos he writes with more than a dozen demo units available at a time that's actually really impressive having more than a dozen demo units available at a time is this in one store cuz if you're going to want to move around and do stuff in virtual reality having 12 headsets in one store I can see issues even though I'm sure Apple has thought about that part either way though I do think offering up demos is quite important and a nice benefit of this I can only imagine is going to be the fact that we're going to see quite a few Hands-On videos from a lot of people when these do actually get into the store hopefully allowing us to get a glimpse of what the device actually looks like in real life hands another great piece of news about the Apple Vision Pro is that it will reportedly be super powerful the Apple Vision Pro reportedly has the 10 core GPU variant of the M2 chipset and 16 GB of RAM this thing is basically a Mac inside a headset it is going to be amazing take that from someone that doesn't buy Apple when announcing the Apple Vision Pro in June Apple revealed that it was powered by its M2 chipset also used in Mac and the iPad Pro alongside a new R1 chip for processing sensor inputs but the company hasn't yet detailed which variant of the M2 is in the Vision Pro nor how much RAM it will be paired with in a post on X Bloomberg's Mark German said he is hearing that it uses the model with 10 GPU cores that should make the vision Pros GPU at least 50% more powerful than even the overclocked adreno 740 and qualcomm's new Snapdragon xr2 Plus Gen 2 separately Mac Rumors reports that it found references to Vision Pro having 16 GB of RAM in Apple's xcode IDE that would be double the ram of the meta 3 and 33% more than the meta Quest Pro when all specs are taken into account developers should be able to deliver much higher Fidelity experiences on the Vision Pro than they can on a quest 3 or any other upcoming competitor closer to pcvr than ever before in a standalone headset if Apple does give us controllers I can see some absolutely incredible games coming out for the Vision Pro currently what I'm getting here is Apple isn't necessarily trying to sell this thing for gaming at least half as much since you know controllers are a pretty big part of gaming even when we get the ability to use our hands in games while I might sometimes do that and for some games it really does just work for others you really want that controller input but I can see where we're going with this the dream of pcvr directly on a standalone headset is getting closer and closer because I can see a device this powerful definitely being able to play some pcvr titles maybe with some reduced Graphics but yeah how cool would that be Standalone pcvr on the Apple Vision Pro I'd say it could do it I'd say it could and something really interesting for Disney plus owners well we've announced since WWDC 23 that the Apple Vision Pro will support Disney plus from day one today's Newsroom update detailed more about its planned entertainment experiences alongside support for 150 3D movies and multiple streaming services with apple immersive video Apple revealed that Disney plus subscribers can watch TV shows and films with four immersive environments first is the Disney plus Theater which takes inspiration from the El Cap toown theater in Hollywood second is the scare floor which prominently featured in Pixar's Monsters Inc thirdly is the Marvel Avengers tower that overlooks downtown Manhattan finally you can sit in the cockpit of Luke Skywalker land speeder through a sunset on tattoo in tattooing I actually never never watched the Star Wars movies in English I watched all of them in Polish so I I have no idea how to pronounce that in English either way though I find it really cool that these custom environments are coming to these movie watching Services I wish the quest had more of that yes I know we can actually just sideload our own custom environment and have it show up right there but for example the YouTube app on the quest why can we not have some really cool environments show up there or why can't we get to upload our own I think watching a movie in this environment possibly from the movie that you're watching would just be on a whole new level and now finally we're going to end off on some new companies jumping into AR glasses which I think a lot of new companies are going to start doing now especially with the Apple verion Pro just around the corner TCL to launch crowdfunding campaign for raino X2 the first Standalone AR glasses so these will not require a phone of any sort TCL will launch a crowdfunding campaign in February for their raino X2 Standalone true AR glasses unless an unannounced competitor ships first the raino X2 will be both the first Standalone AR glasses meaning they don't require a separate Compu device and the first AR glasses with microed displays raino claims that X2 will be capable of kind of out of home use cases people have been envisioning for AR glasses for years now including outdoor navigation and real-time speech translation anchored to the person speaking wow that is cool wow this is that is actually exactly what I've been looking for what I've been waiting for for a very long time what I'm personally afraid of I need prescription glasses can I put prescription glass in AR glasses and how will that work the glasses are controlled by touch controls on the temples voice commands or a raino ring that acts as a three do rotational laser pointer that's really cool raino X2 has a Snapdragon xr2 gen 1 chipset on board the same used in meta Quest 2 and the Pico 4 the likely reason it isn't using the Gen 2 chipset is that its development started years ago before the new generation chipset was available the resolution may not be as high on these at the beginning it may not be as powerful as other headsets we have out there but this is the beginning this is the beginning of AR glasses I mean the resolution here is apparently just 640x 480 each on those panels what we do have to remember here is these have no compute unit these are the first true Wireless a are Standalone classes everything is built into these so I do think that they had to make a few compromises very very excited for these can't wait to see what they actually look like LG has come back to release an XR device as early as next year you know LG manufactures their own panels so this could work out really well for them the company's CEO confirmed the plan to a reporter from South Korean News website the guru because Korean doesn't explicitly distinguish between singular and plural in the context of the quote it's actually unclear whether Cho referred to one device or multiple devices Cho told the guru that LG Electronics has moved XR device development into the division of the company that makes its TVs to speed up development very little is known about this headset right now but it is making me very happy to see so many companies now jumping into the XR space it is certainly looking like 2024 might be a very big year for virtual reality I mean I think m is an understatement I mean come on guys Apple's racing a headset and I cannot wait to see what this year has in store for us that is going to be it for today's video thank you all so so much
