BIG miles in the birthplace of mountain biking

Wow oh sweet it is a beautiful day in the big city I'm in San Francisco my new buddy Michael here and we're gonna do an adventure so Michaels an XE rider XE racer aspiring XE racer I'd say exactly and he's been like emailing me because I did my big you know looking for my limit ride and then I did Moab rocks and so he's been getting me hyped up about coming out and doing a big ride from his house in San Francisco over to Marin County over the Golden Gate Bridge and I'm looking forward to it and he gave me this option this menu of different rides and I was like let's do the let's do the shortest one first and then maybe later if we get a good taste I'll come back for like a big ol crazy ride but I think today is gonna be a gonna be a good one what are we gonna do I think we're gonna do Golden Gate Bridge to Mill Valley up old railroad grade to the top of Tam maybe loop around Eldridge and come down the coast and through the headlands sweet love it let's get on it we're both on our BMC's today you got the four-stroke how do you how do you like this machine pedals really well most Janie textile fantastic yeah I feel the same way about this one so we're starting our ride in the Presidio neighborhood I'm gonna get into the trees and some other nice little sections here coming up on one of the most iconic Instagram photo spots see this all the time Wow clear day yeah this is the most beautiful bridge in the world it's also a a little piece of family is my great-grandfather worked on the Golden Gate Bridge there's Korean he also fell off to the Golden Gate Bridge Seema's heel broke his back it's in the hospital for months he went back to work thing you can do right oh nice and quiet maybe we'll catch Barry Bonds out for a ride yeah I follow his straw but he's always riding from Tiburon up and around one of my best cycling memories was doing like a little group ride from the Mike's Bikes it's over here and it was one of those October days where it's like a hundred degrees back at home in Vallejo but out here it was like a perfect 75 and just riding out on the road the Sun setting and it was just the warmest it's ever been on the ocean it's like oh this is so cool I think so like I just Highway one like the normal like distance and kind of thing okay from the mean streets of Sausalito through the redwoods now we're hitting an old railroad grade which is just heading uh heading up to the top of Mount Tamalpais we've got a solana head of us we've been climbing for a good long while and this view is kind of lost on the GoPro I'd say so so epic but you can see as far as Mount Diablo Angel Island Tiburon the city the Bay Bridge it's fantastic could be out here burning up kilojoules onward crisp 48 degrees a little chilly nah this where they had the pancake cookout always seen the signs forum never participating pancakes down pretty good right now you got to tell me about your little maple syrup concoction here honey to add some fructose you know like 50 cents for exactly the price per watt is a very right $2.00 exactly exactly yeah I got to get back on the maple syrup kick to the summit whoo headwind I'm hurtin nice is this the top for us yeah there's like a hike yeah cool I'm gonna eat some snacks there all right get the blood flowing again ha ha fingers are frozen nose is running give me a little wind buffer here come on Oh can't get out of it yeah launched it not quite sure what these tires are capable of and trying to figure it out on a fast fire road descent is not my favorite way to do it Oh pedaling a little bit more least I can get a little warmer whoo he got away from me quick puts the power down on the flats I remember that trail on the right from being a kid in the Boy Scouts yeah we came out here parked right here walked up so funny too because as a kid I wasn't the most physically fit I wasn't you know super out of shape but like a couple mile hike that's that was a lot to ask haha transported it into a whole different world now is out of control on that bike like super fast amazing this is my little favorite slice of legal Marin County single track written in a couple size yeah Wow oh sweet they go oh oh man those ruts are crazy so nice I keep feeling my chain slap my foot and I think my water bottles been ejected it's been so long since I've done this trail I'm so glad it's as fun as I remember rutting and gutted man what so cool so sustained we got paid back big-time hell yeah man Jesus you're fast highway 1 Oh smells spring is here wow this is a nice little hidden spur oh man it's a little too romantic right now let's do Oh too hard over here oh I've never seen that spot it's amazing it's just right here off the highway yeah okay I recognize this now the massive climb that we're about to do middle green Gulch horrible ha ha ha strap in I've done this climb a couple of times it's hurtful God that ramped up quick harder it is the quicker we're done pain and pleasure temperatures nice at least protected whoops finally had to go into the Eagle gear doing good I was just about to say how pleasant the great has been oh it got me you're probably freezing your butt off oh man that kicker spot was I was like I'm walking yeah and then I can see you across the valley hammer and I was like yes killing it that was like eight hundred feet I think yeah climate survival almost at 30 miles 3550 elevation gain more climbing we got to get over 4,000 to Tennessee Valley me walk trail ho chatter brain the white-knuckle super-tight whoa good water management though a spoke too soon calves are burning it done some good downtown is that the Sun coming out poking through oh man fading again just gotta get a little food in me at the top oh man this is really tough I might just need to stop Oh fully recovered no problems a lot of food fantasies happening right now limp in my way to the finish now this is where cramps are made nice awesome gear not in the current state of really yeah make an excuse us but not feeling up to it this pie having that food helped still teetering on the edge but still pedaling to man the day of a thousand vistas this is cool I can see home home is just over those mountains my thin little tires have been punctured so close seal baby seal see what's coming out from everywhere there is yeah regular plug and a mega plug all right we both took some turns we got the two bolito my orange tube in there it's pretty solid okay this was just all my plan to sit around for 45 minutes oh my but instead of having to pedal a couple people were puzzled as to why I would run 30 psi in Moab that's why everywhere you that is the full house theme song I think a boom all right Mike's only baby Oh legs are a wee bit tired 38.6 miles 48 26 elevation and that's with my bike computer wigging out and resetting itself a couple miles in south we're over 40 Oh Sun is shinin feels good whoo so close we can make it wow we did it now to buy some carbon rims and thicker tires the yellow bow oh the New Zealand nice nice yeah that's cool you like that yeah nice I'll make an exception it's time to get we earned it exactly cheers thank you Mike a very cool don't think I signed up for the 40-mile 5,000 feet package but we got it and it was fun and it was killer and it's super cool so uh yeah I'm glad you did it and it was nice to meet you Caleb Hey hi
