finding new clients can be the hardest part of running your own freelance business so today I'm gonna be breaking down my number one strategy for finding new clients on a consistent basis this generated tens of thousands of dollars in extra revenue for my business this year alone let's get started [Music] what's going on guys this is Peyton Smith and welcome back to another video this video is going to be one of my favorites that I've done so far and a lot of work has gone into it to help you guys know how you can land new clients so if you haven't yet and you want to learn how to grow your freelance business make sure to click below and subscribe so you don't miss a thing so the first thing you need to know is I am NOT just a web designer through my entire time in college I actually worked as a door-to-door salesman selling pest control during this time I was trained by some of the most incredible salesmen in the world and I learned a lot of strategies that have made a massive difference in the sales of my web design business now I'll be the first to admit that I was not the most naturally talented salesman but I did pretty well and I feel like over these years I was able to find a way to kind of take these principles of sales and mesh them with my non pushy personality and find a perfect mix that worked for me to sell web design services shortly after I equip my time as a salesman and went full-time on my web design business I had a mentor that taught me an outreach strategy that completely changed my business and so I can't take credit for this but this has been something that has opened so many client doors and has helped me leverage my sales skills and also my personality to really gel with these potential prospects and make the sales process super super easy super low stress and it really has taken the anxiety out of the process for me now before we dive in and show you exactly how to execute this outreach strategy there are four main reasons that you need to know about that people aren't listening to you when you're selling your web design services and the first one is the most common reason in any type of whether you're doing door-to-door selling web design selling life insurance and that is that human beings are trained to say no for my young age we watch our parents saying no to salesmen right when I was knocking doors in college I would have an eight-year-old kid answer the door and they would tell me no we're not interested and there is no way that that little kid could have known that his parents weren't interested but that was something that he knew we just do as humans right has seen as parents just saying no to salesmen right off the bat and so we have to be prepared for that and be ready to push through that first note because that's we're gonna start listening to you the second reason they're not listening to you is they just don't know you yet which is perfectly understandable we've all been on the phone or face-to-face with a Salesman and it's hard to really trust or want to listen to somebody that we don't know and so we're gonna talk about how to overcome that and really help your prospect to feel like they know you more than any other salesman the third reason they're not listening to you is you come across the sales and people hate sales e we're gonna talk a little bit about how you can really dial down the energy and be more professional and less sales E which is gonna make people respect you a lot more and the fourth reason that people aren't listening to you is they always expect that a Salesman just wants something from them okay they are gonna feel like you have your best interest at heart and we need to overcome that to show them that we truly care about the success of their business and that's gonna help us get them one step closer to hiring us now the best part about this outreach system is it resolves all four of these issues before you ever meet face to face with this prospect and if we can't overcome these four things it is gonna make the sales process super super easy for both you and the prospect so here's how it works rather than you cold calling or walking right into a business and trying to sell someone your services you need to provide value first okay so here's exactly what I'm doing every time I go through this outreach process I'm gonna hop on Google and for me in particular I like to work with law firms and home service businesses so I'm gonna search law firms in my local area and I'm gonna find the law firms that have a really horrible website or a website that I has really obvious issues that are going to be affecting their conversions okay and what I'm gonna do is I'm going to create a loom video and this is a software that we talked about in a past video but loom allows you to record your screen and also record your face to make a really customized a video okay and what you're gonna do is you're going to get on their website you're going to introduce yourself and then what you're gonna do is walk through all of the different changes that they can make and showing them the benefits that will come from making those changes okay you're gonna point out concerns that you have about their website about their Google ranking about their reviews you can talk about their design you can talk about the fact that they don't have a good call to action or their contact form is broken whatever it might be you're going to provide value and show them exactly what they need to do to increase the effectiveness of their website and improve their online presence this video is a great way to help them get to know you you're gonna be able to break down a lot of walls and build rapport and you're gonna be able to provide lots of value which is going to make them want to listen to you because they feel like they owe you something in return now if you want to see an example of one of these videos make sure to stick around until the end of this video to watch exactly how I do this before we get to that though we need to talk about phase 2 of this process which is the most important part and this is oftentimes what we forget as web designers that aren't necessarily salesmen and this is the follow-up call if you aren't following up with these videos you're probably not gonna get any response people aren't gonna call you up and say oh my gosh your video blew me away I just want to hire you right here on the spot but what you need to do is you need to use that video as your ticket in the door to a real low stress sales conversation with this prospect and so what I do is using loom I'm able to see exactly when they've watched that video and how much of the video that they've watched and what I'm gonna do is set a reminder for two to three days after I seen that video and I'm gonna give that business owner a call it's preferable that you know their name you know their title so you can go in with all the knowledge that you need to really act like understand the situation and act like a professional it's important to remember that this is not a cold sales call you've already made that initial contact with them so you don't need to feel that pressure and you're gonna see very quickly that they're not gonna put that pressure on you if they've watched that video they're already going to have taken down those walls and it's going to be much much easier to have a real conversation with those people the other reason I love sending this video beforehand is if a secretary tries to screen your call and doesn't want to let you talk to the business owner you can blow right through that by saying it's ok this is just about a video that I send Jane two days ago she'll know exactly what I'm talking about I can hold and by using that brief phrase they're going to realize hey this isn't just a cold sales call this is somebody that has interacted with Jane the business owner and this is going to be really hard for a secretary to shut you down and not let you speak to the business owner now obviously there is some salesmanship that's going to need to go into this conversation you're not going to be able to just call them up and have them roll over and give you their credit card but this is going to make the situation and the environment of this sales call much much better than you can possibly ask for ok they're gonna have their guard down this is going to be your second point of contact and it's gonna be much much easier for you to relax and ask them questions and really get to the bottom of their issues and their pain points which is gonna make it much much easier for you to sell to them remember that you always need to be persistent but don't ignore what they're saying okay acknowledge what they're saying if they say no acknowledge that acknowledge why they are saying no and find a way to work around that and work back to their pain points and their problems and show them that you really are understanding their concerns but you have a solution that is going to solve a problem for them and if you can show that confidence it's gonna set you apart from every other salesman that they've interacted with I guarantee that if you use this outreach strategy each and every day and are sending these videos out of scale you are going to have a pipeline full of prospective clients that are interested in buying your services so to wrap up this video I wanted to ask you guys what is the number one struggle that you have when trying to find new expert here in town and I actually built the website for Smith and Wolff just across the street from you guys but anyways I came across your site here a couple days going anytime I get a spare minute I like to make one of these quick website critique videos to provide a little value to you guys there are a list of things that I found that are easy changes on your website but I'm sure that if you make these changes you can see up to a you know double the amount of calls that you are getting through your website and so I'd love to run through a couple of these things then again if you have any questions at the end of this video feel free to reach out to me but this is free of charge but as we open up your homepage here there are a couple things that I noticed right off the bat and the first one is if people want to contact you your phone number is not a clickable number and what that means is if somebody's looking at your site on a mobile phone and they're clicking that number trying to call you it's not gonna work and people aren't going to go through the hassle of copy and pasting that number into their phone app and then calling you and so I'm sure that you're losing a lot of people right there because that process is more difficult than it needs to be the other thing that I've noticed is there's really no call to action right it's great that they can call you right here but they don't know what action they're supposed to take when they land on this website right you don't have a main button which a lot of times we're gonna want to put something like a consultation or a free business strategy called something like that that alludes the fact that hey this is the main action that you should take if you want to work with us the other thing that you're gonna want to pair with that is a stronger heading to really highlight the benefits of working with you and also exactly who you want to be working with and so you've got here get expert legal advice for your business but what types of businesses are you working with and what type of legal advice are you we're gonna want to be a little bit more specific and again highlight those benefits so just as an example heading I would put something like we work with large corporations to help them avoid lawsuits that could cost them Millions something like that that's really really specific is going to help me as the owner of a large corporation say hey that's exactly what I'm looking for I'm gonna click the button right here to schedule a consultation and right there you're gonna get so many more people in the door and on the phone because you're gonna be targeting a specific client the other thing that I would recommend is don't use any stock photos like these two hands shaking the background that's something that people can see from a mile away and it really does damage to the trust that you're trying to build on your website and so what I would suggest is get a picture of all the attorneys in your firm and put that picture right here front and center so they can see the faces of the people that they're gonna be working with the last thing that I'm gonna mention and I've got a bunch of others but I know that your your time is precious but one thing that you always need to think about is about 60% of people are never gonna scroll past the viewport and so what that means is they're not gonna scroll down and see anything beyond what is right here front and center when they load in on the website and so we need to really determine is it necessary to have our header up here take up 1/3 of the screen when really all it's giving is our logo which we don't need this big because they hardly know they're on our site we've got a lot of bleed points that are just taking away from our main call to action so we're gonna want to push these smaller up here in the top corner and then we've got our you know our phone number up here which again isn't clickable and that's something we're gonna want to keep big but these things are really taking up a lot of precious real estate and so push that header up take your new heading that you've created and put that front and center over your custom photo have a big button in one of your company colors that says schedule consultation or whatever that might be and then push the rest of this content down and by utilizing this main spot of your viewport you are going to increase your conversions you're gonna be able to build more trust and more people are going to call you so that's all that I've got here that I want to go over if you the end of the day I know that these things will probably take twenty minutes to change and could generate tens of thousands of dollars in extra revenue for you guys this year so great talking to you
