hello coaches welcome back to another modern soccer coach breakdown I've got quite a few requests from coaches who are working at youth levels 7v7 and 9v9 to talk about some tactical shapes and progressions so today I'm going to look at some variations in terms of structures that you can use for 9v9 I hope you enjoy it if you want more 9 v9 or 7v7 stuff please just like so we can get an idea of how popular it is please like also please make sure you subscribe the more subscribers we have the more content we can put out I really really appreciate all the support I will also put these shapes on the modern soccer coach website if you want to follow up and take a look at it modern soccer coach.com on the link below here we go thank you okay before we start it's probably worth saying that there is not one perfect 9v9 shape that is going to help you you win every single game like 11 v11 shapes there are always pros and cons to each systems it depends what you're looking for as a coach but I would say three things are important when we're looking at variations of systems the first is that if you're a club there's going to have a tactical pathway through to 11 V1 and to the older age groups then maybe it's worth looking at some 9v9 shapes that can be consistent with those second of all if we know anything about the future of the game it's that it's going to change and keep evolving so the ability to adapt to those changes is going to be a massive massive Advantage for a young player so exposing players to different types of shapes can also help in their development and their education of the game it's not a bad thing to keep changing sometimes it's a good thing it's part of the learning process and the third one that is consistent with the second process is that there are some shapes that can bring out certain individual qualities strengths situations that you might want from a Player Development so we'll look at that there certain things from your Center back certain things for your holding midfielder certain things from maybe your front three that again you want to give them experience in as they progress and learn more about the game so I think there's a lot of advantages of looking at different shapes in 9 v9 7v7 so let's look at four shapes right now here we go so the first shape we're going to look at is a 2 three 2 one and what I think this shape gives you in possession is that it can replicate a back for War shape where you're looking at pushing those fullbacks on there's also a lot of front three variations where those are Central front three players that can occupy the pockets in those Central areas but there's also a flexibility with the number six that I really really like about this shape so you can drop the number six back move your center backs push your fullbacks on that can also work on passing angles that can help you progress the ball and a second massive Advantage with that number six is that it can create a diamond in the build that can get you a lot of pass and angle and a potential overload that can then allow spaces to open up around the opposition Defenders again those Central areas that we talk about today the Kevin De bruy is space you can get access to them if that's part of your philosophy or your principles that can help you create goal scored opportunity the next one we'll take a look at is a 323 so if you're fan of a back three and you're a fan of using those two pivot midfielders to build out like deserving does this is a system that you might enjoy implementing you can create that Central overload in the build that gives you a massive Advantage playing against the press and that opens up a lot of passing angles for you to progress the ball and then the second one is that if you tilt this shape a little bit to the right or the left you can create an overload to isolate principle that you can then get a player out wide we talked about this last week with anit Spurs and how he does it you can also do this in the 9v9 concept move the opposition expose the weak side and get those numbers in central areas to score goals the next shape we'll look at is a 332 very similar to the last one but there's a key variation here that I really really like a little twist to it you can use your three midfielders to move in around and the outside of those center backs to again manipulate the opposition shape and progress the ball and key to this one is that you can move your two Center forwards in the white areas so you're not eliminating any width you're just picking and choosing the moments to use your width by bringing players from into to out which again can open up passing Lanes create 1 V ones and allow you to advance the ball with numbers in the final third really really good shape 332 hello coaches you asked and we delivered one of the most popular requests we get on this channel is passing warm-ups and it's not the regular slow way to be passing exercises no what coaches are looking for is the OneTouch intricate combination type exercises with that emphasis on quality technique and Tempo so we have decided to put 30 of these exercises together and release them on an ebook that you can get access to right away if you're a youth coach who's looking for some extra technical work or you're even a college coach or a club coach working with older players looking for some warm-up exercises or some pictures to align with your Tactical objectives we can help you out our new ebook 30 passing practices is available on the link below it's a PowerPoint that includes video session details and coaching points on each slide tons of ideas tons of different pictures lots of adaptions you can get it on the link below or at modern soccer coach.com shop thanks for the support and enjoy and then the fourth shape is a 422 this is where you drop your fullbacks a little bit lower in the buildup so it gives you again those numbers to get out against the press it also gives you a really really good structure in the middle to get those Central overloads and to switch the point of attack to get the weak side fallback forward so every pass in that switch allows the advanced fallback to get a little bit forward and by the time you work that ball across you can get that fallback into the final third where again you've got numbers in around the box to score goals another variation I like about this is if you drop your center backs further back you can then invert your fullbacks in the build again against the press and Advance your central players in the wider areas or in the central Pockets to again create Central overloads and score plenty of goals really really good shape to invert your fullbacks early so there you have it coaches I hope you enjoyed that breakdown four different shapes in 9v9 if you want more of this and you want to take a deeper dive into one of the shapes or you want more 9v9 more 7v7 stuff please either like or put it in the comments below if you want something specific or if we miss something that you think we should take a look at please put it in the comments below I'm a big believer that in the future game it's not necessarily about a shape and a structure but there always will be a shape and a structure I think problem solving and adapting is going to be a massive strength from a Player Development standpoint individually so I think within a shape and a structure the more different pictures that you can educate and show players and allow them to experience I think it's going to be very very beneficial so I'm not saying to change the system every single week so instead of curriculum's looking at possession one block or shooting another block or attacking and defending maybe it's different shapes that curriculums look at maybe it's different blocks with different shapes so you can just keep educating players on those different pictures and then allowing them to see how different shapes give you different opportunities from an attacking and a defensive side I think that's more powerful than sitting down with a board and showing them that there is a 442 and a 433 and a 343 and all those things I think people learn by doing and I think if it's structured and it's organized really really well and communicated effectively from the coach of the club I think you've got a really really good chance of engaging that player more tactically which can then maybe lead them to ask more questions or more conversations which again can help Advance an individual tactically so I hope you enjoyed it please make sure you subscribe below it means a lot for all the support so thank you so much and I'll see you next week goodbye he
