BEST SOUTHERN FRIED CHICKEN EVER! Carolinas vs.Tennessee

[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] that is the best fried chicken I've ever had in my life this might be one of the best things ever had in my life [Music] [Applause] morning first full day on the road I'm in rallies North South Carolina right now and um the original plan was to try some Carolina style barbecue but all the places I want to go through because today it's Sunday all the plays I want to go to is clothes I'm gonna have to make a trip especially back here just for the barbecue Carolina barbecue is amazing I want to pay it like special attention so I'll be back for that right now I'm on my way through Asheville to Nashville you know last time I had such a great experience eating fried chicken Southern Fried Chicken there's nothing like it we're gonna hit up as many amazing fried chicken place as we can my mouth is watering just talking about it let's just let's just do it it's not it o'clock in the morning fried chicken for breakfast benefit of being an adult kids [Music] first stop on this fried chicken tour games chicken and waffle this place was the institution here in Durham by the way I'm in the what was known as the triangle so Durham Chapel Hill and rally it forms the triangle great barbecue great fried chicken and they recommended the orange speckled chavo and the vegan waffles I think that's the first time the word vegan is spoken on this show I got two pieces of chicken actually I got the pinko chicken but they brought me an extra piece I love this place check out the pinko chicken perfectly crusted and this is the crispiest of all the cutlets here so distinct yeah let's think I'll make a sound when it goes into your mouth the vegan waffle is made with oatmeal and full sauce and what you're supposed to do take the chicken off the waffle first and then taste the waffle make sure you like it just by the Atocha anything else trap really warm for you oh yeah I can definitely taste applesauce these are just really pelo a waffle anything you could lay on this and take a nap it's like the air mattress of waffles and then you're applied to smear drizzle the cashew syrup make sure you get that in every single little crevice of the waffle take that fruit put it on top now we're in business [Music] that's right I love that schmear I want to smear that over my face sounds great thank you I'm gonna put my chicken on top of the fruit imma care pieces of white meat cutlet extremely extremely crispy - sheep that Pinkham a little toasty little smoky when someone told me to put hot sauce on something I'm gonna obliged now take a piece we give this waffles this is a very popular very popular to that over the south also in New York shape you gotta try a sweet savory fun everything you love about breakfast and and Fried Chicken combined in one I'm just it takes care of all sorts of cravings so overall assessment the flavors are delicious I think this smear is great sweet buttery silky smooth really really good mouthfeel the waffles I like my a little crispy the waffles are not that crispy it is slightly toasty on the outside it's very pillowy I love the airiness of it I love how it combines with the smear fantastic I love love the suggestion of the fruit on top of the waffles that was a homerun because that gave a little more juice to the waffles and I feel like it kind of needed that the chicken with the pink oh it's really crunchy but chicken breast a little dry I think I prefer the waffles more than the chicken it's good chicken and waffles not the best I've ever had so yeah it's a place you should check out me here it's a fairly popular restaurant people seem to love it let's keep the fried chicken coming actually the other place about to leave North Carolina going into Tennessee and there's one place it's always been my guilty pleasure Fried Chicken and I can only find it in south well jingoes I love this place like it's like emotional just walking close to it this is my favorite fried chicken chain in the world it is just so good let me show you I'm gonna get a two piece fresh dinner for your in the South you're drinking sweet tea that's the L sweet tea put some sugar in it this is my favorite chicken breasts a bulge in goes massive massive piece of brushed amazingly crispy skin from the outside and trust me we might need a straw for this because this thing it's gonna be juicy dirty rice one of my favorite side on this here gotta get some mashed potatoes their biscuits amazing and cool down with little coleslaw look at the size of this thing these breasts are bigger than mine let me break you off a piece right here look at this this juice could fill a swimming pool and I would gladly die then [Music] every single time I take a bite of this this makes me want to move near one of these stores slightly spicy I mean it's not overly spicy but each piece they're dirt like part of their suka recipe it's just a little bit of heat and it is glorious and I know I'm sitting here like you know in a chain chicken restaurant raving about the fetching but it is that that good mashed potatoes not necessary but stuff that really enjoy punch again I really loved her dirty rice a little bit of meat spices herbs was a Bojangles new in New York not nearly as good there's something about the South that's where this chain really belongs somewhere really shines [Music] okay now I'm ready to leave let's go to Tennessee [Music] welcome to Chattanooga Tennessee Champy's of course Tennessee is famous for fried chicken zombies one of the most famous fried chicken places of Tennessee right here in Chattanooga I don't feel like I ever get sick of fried chicken it's my third fried chicken me over there but chumpies is known for its two things hot tamales in the chicken course I got both and this is a pretty fun atmosphere sitting right outside greeting the fresh tuna sea air waiting for my hot tamales and fried chicken can't do any of this without sipping on some sweet tea overly sweet just the way I like it down south tamales just arrived these are some sauced up tamales for sure Oh burn and hot Somalis usually Somalis you wouldn't find this at a fried chicken placement it's hot it smells good it's saucy this is so incredibly yummy they put chilli straight into the filling so you're not only getting the heat from the outside at Smalley's you're definitely getting it from right in the center as soon as you put any mouth yeah nice summer sleep fragrant taste of the quorum stop filling as beefy as meeting it's got a huge huge kick to it that's beautiful Sokka I can't wait it this is insane you guys do you guys raise Godzilla chickens back there seriously this might be the fried chicken meal I've been waiting for all day I mean I loved what I had a double jingoes but look at this thing perfectly fried mountain of a chicken just a color on the outside is so incredibly beautiful I mean that's not the sunset driving to Tennessee but I'm getting more emotional looking at this you can see the little specks of seasoning and spices on the outside I mean this chicken is like I can barely hold it and it is heavy lord I just want to marvel at it Oh even the potato salads making me borderline emotional all that Chilean spices on top of the pills this looks like a potato salad sundae [Music] the meat on the inside is equally beautiful you shell the juice using out from the middle that's exactly what I'm looking for in my fried chicken hot food oh that is so good the monster chicken also claimed by the monster flavor like just great juicy crunchy fried chicken this batter is magical I want to show something love to this potato salad as well Oh hop to some Cajun seasoning potato creamy perfect whose freshing side for the chicken so everything I have here not a single bad bicycle partner to wash all that down the way you're supposed to eat this chicken I cut it open just to show you guys by the way suppose this chicken pit go get all from Truman and personal with this bird and this batter is just a shame I taste a lot of pepper I see a lot of herb that's probably one of the pepper we your fried chickens I've had but God that works so well put this down I also got a dark meat if the white meat is already that good this is gonna be phenomenal I really don't see how character you can stay in business in this town there's not expensive to monster then I really do mean monster chicken breasts peaches Lindo wing two sides ten bucks best thing I had all that even above my view love Bojangles Champy's name well-deserved morning from Nashville couple plays I want to head out before heading to Memphis and this is one of them Barbara's home cooking that looks like a grandma's house I'm sitting on the porch right now freshly made buns sweet tea here I got two platters one which chicken one with their special poppy seed chicken breast in a wing I think they took the bones out these are just like boneless strips oh god I was jealous of the deny for being the first bite into this chicken but holy moly that is a juicy breast oh wow I feel like the fried chicken on the strip I just keeps getting better with each place I'd go to the thing about what makes this chicken so incredible it's absolutely absolutely the outside batter which is just the lightest crunchy batter of any of the fried chicken has so far the poppy seed chicken this is like almost like a casserole I think a little cracker crust on top poppy seeds obviously throughout this dish pure white meat [Music] of course you got a little crunch from the from the crackers on top but after that layer it's all a smooth bike they told me their mash potato is the best whenever someone tells me they're mashed potato is amazing I am a hundred percent on board oh hello creamy there's things just Bob my tongue like a little Sookie little blanket Sookie savory a little blanket yeah lighter person got to get this when you come and people come for these roles and my gosh these look at this pillowy every beautiful rose don't come in the mashed potatoes and gravy does I the only way to he rolls [Music] these are no joke just a perfect little pillowy every bundle of heaven this is one of the best meals I had on this trip so far and this might just be one of the best country meals I've ever had in my life you need to come here and eat this like both dishes sweetie 20 bucks I'm surprised there's not a line out the door at this place there really should be a throw around Nashville I don't know why you're not eating here right now I'm gonna sit here and just on my porch eating my southern comfort food this is the epitome of comfort from right here I feel so good so warm like this taste like a hot it tastes like very much hard I'm so excited to hear this Lake this looks exactly like I wanted to look I mean this is middle of farmland Tennessee and Gus's world famous chicken I smelled manure right now I just find out the best smell right before I want to go eat but ain't no funky odor is gonna stop my appetite for this thing holy cow I'm so excited I got here about ten minutes before they were closing Oh oh my god I don't want to come here for like ten years if I just missed it by ten minutes there's full regret and this didn't - just like a food nightmare this will be that so I couldn't eat in here so they give give it to me to go smell the nicest but police the view is good it's like a country road yeah all my fried chicken Jane's a bit up to this moment and here it is the world-famous Gus's chick I seen this in so many TV shows now it's just Bernie in my hand and this is just piping hot I mean it's fried you can for like two days straight and this is just the most excited I've ever been that is the best fried chicken I've ever had in my life this might be one of the best things ever had in my life no hype piping hot chicken incredibly juicy the skin wonderfully crunchy but a reason I'm saying this is best fresh you never had my life is the flavor I never had anything like this this thing is spicy naturally spicy spice perfectly I'm literally in front of Gus's chicken shop in their parking lot or munching on a chicken wing nowhere in the world rather be right now depressed me this this might really be what the tickets of food haven't feels like in my hands [Music] hahaha they see the spices on the skin how and it's melting through the skin onto the meat is shelf right below this crunchy surface if I'm craving fried chicken this is why I'm coming to I love love great food endings last place on this fried chicken to our best place on the spreadsheet contort oh I'm so happy this is like the Forrest Gump the usual suspects the six cents endgame of food you should come
