and businesses design build and manufacture of racing engines and also rebuilding a lot of heritage engines from previous formula 1 errors this is John George introduced me to Dan I don't know his coach I'm told I don't know just I wonder why that Jordan must be someone to do with John anyway John children are a name yeah anyway John introduce me to Dan Dan Squire has worked for Jud for 15 years and his full-time job for five months has been restoring guys dear fee engine what a bloke Danny's real meticulous real nice lad he didn't get sick of my questions so they sleeves at the book it's run in that and how'd you just about claims can you work in metric as well do you check stretch or just seat condition would this be a squish style combustion chamber though it's quite a flat bolt Owens it's what valve angle is that you think that was all taken into account when this engine was designed [Music] guy joined done to finish off his painstaking rebuild of the engine ready for testing don't wait to feel that yeah I could see you're facing canals a bit by wrapping all right I know the feeling I think that's not right that's what it's all about having that fear so you gotta make a feel yeah what do you think why the DfE probably one of those iconic engines of all time right but it is it's a classic design that stood the test of time and you and you can't speak too highly of it and you know you need to be top and that's what it was with the fuel lines connected the 5-month engine rebuild was finally finished great experience an honor to work on the DfE nowhere to hide on the dyno no the team wanted to measure the engine's power output by revving it at increasing speeds on a dynamometer or dyno it's now rocking what Annie and I know the engine that took 1000 hours to rebuild would now be pushed to its limit it all got horribly wrong done northern Cali why doing I put his workmanship to test if he's left anything slightly at a place that I think would just kaboom itself dan couldn't bear to watch where is that that have to walk away either in what I hear it era day yeah I come to start to push the throttle forward and all the way in running operated the dining under the guidance of will Monteith I was bloody nervous - sounded like I was before the team hoped to rev the engine past 9000 rpm without it failing if it could cope with the stress then a power output of over 450 HP would be easy success yeah I've got too much mechanical sympathy for engine die like it was ripping out the floor [Music] [Applause] that's what we do in a Medina we try my nerve-racking now once the team were happy the car was running well it was time for guy to have his first ever drive in an f1 car you're not gonna smell of dad now I tell you hey any white girl yeah I know white I've only to look at it it'll be mucky see always there this pull up a lot this is gonna wash me on this horse means big yeah I wait your feet when you get in so you'd be stones and stuff all right let's lift it up like a horse that's it okay just make sure your mantel it's not squashed she's already told me a little fella banger all right yeah nervously is priceless in prices this season if I say up Williams we'll never sell this cat yeah no pressure her out [Music] I don't hunt down a straight track but it's a little bit nerve-racking first we're not gonna farm it on wanna clear the way I'm ready to go about a burger just let the culture pick I've been stalling don't start trying to be a hero on your first run out trying to any burnout try and do any of that when I go up and down and get a feel for the cat [Music] [Applause] [Music] faris perfect fairly responsive at the trial fairly aggressive the slightest touch on the throttling revs up real sharp [Music] it sounds really intimidating [Music] we're going down the boxes a little bit like Aaron was telling me to not to you the cooks down the bottom it feels too cruel [Music] that's nice it's a bit more user friendly than I was expecting but you get you get full throttle yeah yeah feels great well you haven't broken it Johnny the car was checked again you're happy with it ready for another and then guy went straight back out and this time you gave her some beans [Music] [Applause] [Music] yeah who was moving I was giving him Billy Oh Tara Anitha you know the horizons coming out here a fair old red fast [Music] college I wanted to be involved with it hold yes yes balloon [Music] as they approach the line guy in Jenson form up for a rolling start it was great looking across the seeing his eyes and seeing him nervous about driving something that is just so normal to me when the lights go out the race begins [Applause] the lights went off and he lit it up pretty quickly I just saw by Jensen do whatever he was gonna do then right I'll just try and stick with him follow me through the high-speed right left and in any was away yeah now the start first and last I saw of him Jensen now pushes to build up as big a lead as he can before his pet star and guy needs to do all he can to keep that gap small at a couple of moments early off they got into a PI g10 I felt like a movie I mean of confidence to push on beyond me [Music] I wasn't gonna try and keep with Jensen if I didn't feel comfortable and I definitely didn't feel comfortable at the pace he was going [Music] as Janssen comes in for his pit stop he's already opened up a ten second gap over guy but as Jensen sits in the pit lane guy Rockets past and takes the lead [Music] Jensen rejoins the truck now ten seconds behind guy then we did the little pit stuff to me came out and then I started catching him certain corners I watched him through gotta say he's brave you know he's he's pushing it through them calves approach him around speed but he seemed to have a lot more downforce than iron and a lot more skill and I caught him a quite tricky moment how's that do I go around the outside try and overtake us [Music] they looked in the way that he was placing the cars I he hasn't seen me so I backed out there how'd he know he was there he's like no flex payments he knew that I hadn't seen him and they're toned up down the straight into stove and then he bit me on the brakes at the end of the back-trace I'm sure you is looking at every game that was a bit quicker and so I'll hold on to him for a few more corners from then on and then he was gone again these can just look like it was soaked to the floor I don't try and be where he's going you're not in the same league they just keep on doing what you're doing you haven't crashed it you're doing something right divide of pushed beyond that we have been digging around the gravel Johnson takes the checkered flag a guy has impressed everyone for a first go on in front of all these people he did really well he was sensible he built up the speed he looked good are in fact excellent in a word a perfect way to end everything that we've done with guy over these past few months I hope you enjoyed it I hope you learned a lot I'll go to sleep tonight happy I couldn't go anymore but I'm a bloody racer and I'm always thinking right I should order [Music]
