*BEST* Godzilla Movie Ever?! | First Time Watching GODZILLA MINUS ONE (Reaction)

yeah I really think this is the best one hi I'm Matt and I just watched Godzilla minus one for the first time I was honestly blown away by this movie I did not expect it to be as emotional and as grounded as it was I mean this was my immediate reaction as soon as the credits popped up jeez what a movie and here are just a few moments from the journey that this movie took me on ho hell he looks sick the way he's charging up that's very cool so well done oh no I did not see that coming man this is emotional for Godzilla movie this movie like keeps surprising me in great ways so with that let's jump into my reaction to Godzilla minus one he aborted his mission I mean you're knowing you're going into certain death that is I can't imagine why obey a mission when the outcome is already clear wonder if that's the theme of this one we'll see uhoh yep damn they're showing him early jeez holy [ __ ] godilla is like actually terrifying in this I don't know why but it feels like Jurassic Park when the dinosaur first attacks in the Rain the gun's not going to do anything though obey the order you know the outcome you're in die anyway try to survive jeez God damn holy hell he looks sick it's freezing up again scared of certain death don't blame him oh my God he cing the lives of all of these men because you didn't shoot it all these guys are going to die yeah well now they are damn yes wow jeez it's a horror movie it's a straight horror wow I have smarted it gets immediately eaten wow wow I can already see why this one best visual effects I could be totally wrong but it seemed like a mix of visual effects and practical effects and it was done really well obviously the explosion CGI Godzilla real obviously whoa did Godzilla just line up the bodies like that my so shooting him in that plane wouldn't have done anything but this guy's definitely going to feel guilty for the death of all these people crazy he couldn't have stopped it what was that [Music] holy [ __ ] how dare you not be dead wow wow all this blame falling on his shoulder jeez I hope that Arc for the guy him realizing that none of this is his fault like let yourself up the hook please you must turn that's crazy I mean I can't imagine like knowing you're going into certain death don't blame this guy one bit wait what so he he just has to raise this baby now oh he's just going to leave oh no all right well this you have to blame yourself for let yourself up the hook for the other [ __ ] but this is you can't just leave the yeah okay good oh thank God [Music] it's like did you steal that baby true jeez don't a roaster my God too late they're staying she needs to chill oh my God give it a rest I mean I get what she's going through but there are a lot of the reasons why what happened happened she's just trying to project all of the guilt towards him oh now she's helpful it's been like a year hey my man's on the come up let's go what's the job you got to kill Godzilla no pressure yeah no kidding [Music] he's a Survivor yeah exactly oh wow yeah he was lied too oh no wow oh so especially mean all right we got the Dream Team baby earn your stripes kid that'd be me hey 59999 more to go let's not say that we know what I've been through I saw a man ripped to half by a Godzilla jeez reliving this nightmare y jeez yeah the PTSD boy I love that we're seeing the consequences of a Godzilla attack on like a really specific human level damn this really makes it grounded in like a really real way where you feel the weight of it which is awesome I love when Studios take a really subtle approach to these big properties so so far I'm loving this oh what's that mean oh does he think they're not in a relationship and he's not fathering this child I barely know these people oh jeez ruthless I mean he's lost everything in his life he's probably afraid to let them in get too close to them cuz he feels like he's going to lose them too oh wow she leing oh my God she is leaving she said you won't put a ring on it I'm out you messed up my dude Lan was attacked and disabled by unnown Massive un organism through Pacific Waters oh no he knows what did yep oh why do the deep sea fish die and come up is it the radiation that he gives off that's what he took away from that we're about the part about the giant dinosaur monster killing everything oh wow so we didn't even seen final form Godzilla that was just level one sheesh yeah I think you'll know when it's there oh he's close oh wow all right maybe you won't know when it's there that was a sneak attack okay never mind oh boy yeah was like trying to run from a bear you can't escape it maybe you can he's moving pretty slow he's taking his time dang oh he's angry now he's angry now oh no the hesitation again flashbacks to that moment in the plane oh you over came it though yeah the weak point oh no got to shoot it yeah damn he's ready yeah they K him Godzilla can heal I did not know that that is crazy oh my god do it do it yeah oh hey unfortunately oh that's actually doing a lot I was going to say that's not going to do much but I got him oh never mind okay it weakened him never mind I thought he was running but all right oh no he hasn't shown this off yet whoa damn hey talk your talk my man that was gz is not messing around he hit that beam and just flexed on them so theyd rather them all die than cre Mayhem damn what is she to you wow it's a physical embodiment of the guilt and burden that he carries got to let it go no you did do something though you froze up for a second but shot the mine damn everyone around you just dies that's that's tough you still have a chance at life don't want to go to waste because of this guilt you're holding on to I mean it's so dramatic to be fair jeez he in denial such denial he can't believe he's alive almost wishes he was dead he feels like that's the Fate that he deserves for abandoning the mission and not stopping Godzilla jeez man this is emotional for a Godzilla movie I'm with it though I I'm loving this yeah man that's your wife and kid make it official yeah come on I hope sharing that was like there's a weight lifted in a way where he can feel a little bit of Hope now he can feel like he can move on this could be a turning point this going I put this all to rest oh wow I like to try to live again oh no it's another dream or is not a dream this is real he said I like to live again and then he's now facing off against Godzilla I don't like your eyes [Music] this is the Mayhem and Chaos they want to avoid but I guess it's too late anyway oh yeah it is too late oh no that'll cause a delay oh no it's her look at his little arms shees isn't this from the original movie when he walks through all the wires and [ __ ] the train station oh no oh my god oh jump in the water go for it go for it oh watch out oh je yeah I get out of there he just tore apart every building in the same block yeah do you want to live come on I like that it's found his purpose to live and it's her oh no every time you shoot it that's when the radiation comes out [Music] wow look at the way he's charging up that's very cool whoa jeez oh no oh my God he just lost her oh my God wow as soon as he's going to turn his life around as soon as he sees hope as soon as he finds a purpose to live and it's her and the kid and he immediately loses her just like he's lost everyone in his life and once again he's going to blame himself because she died saving him wow I know Godzilla's always been a metaphor for the atomic bomb his explosions clearly identical to the atomic bomb detonation more so than any other movie that I've seen of Godzilla [Applause] whoa [Music] wow oh no yeah how do you tell that little kid that oh No Just pile on the guilt why don't you oh wow it's not your fault oh no he's crushed again your new dream it's your your curse break your curse oh he wants to kill it though trapping is not good [Music] enough yeah what a line we kill it with the power of the sea pan and he was ready for that Crush that delivery he's out for blood give the chance my man you to get him in a specific spot and you have to have two ships go around him oh build a little raft for him you can live on that hell yeah what speech I'm in oh never mind we're not we got a team I don't think this guy's ever going to smile again 10 days yeah dummy sit down yeah let the man work let Mr Nota cook oh yeah he's he might get it off your chest wow my War isn't over yet jeez what a line well all the mechanics died a long time ago so good luck don't you remember that oh the one guy oh my god well I feel like an [ __ ] now he has to reconcile with that guy who yelled at him and blamed him [Music] breaking [Music] down has to be him he's the one person that has not died around him he needs him to be alive it's the hope that he needs wow he has not dealt with this well either oh if I Gaslight him he'll find me me it worked great plan he the only person who knows what he went through you know wow fulfilling his duty as a kamakazi pilot wow this movie like keeps surprising me in great ways he showed up [Music] you're just admiring his work yeah I made that eye swell up yeah they got second chance bu of half measures yeah let's go I go to war for this man [Music] he doesn't realize how lucky he is yeah wow we leave you the future it's not about sacrifice for just some boore it's fighting for the future like that's the turn you have to have hope it can't just all be death and doom and sacrifice in fact with everything they've been through they're still able to find that man that's powerful oh no she Drew him something she handing him the pictures of the men who died on the island this is the choice he's make got to make this kid is his future does he live for the future or go through with this this Mission got I'm not leaving you the look on his face though told a different story I don't know what's he going to choose you going to let the guilt kill him or is he going to choose the future of his child in this [Music] family what song do you think you listen to on your commute making your way into work and fight [Music] Godzilla oh he's freezing up again for yeah but you're the ones that got that chance to go home that's what you're forgetting you're the lucky ones [Music] oh did he install an ejection seat cuz they mentioned that the government didn't install those seats and he just kind of pointed at the seat he's going to have a choice to make let's see what he [Music] does oh yeah oh yep you see her oh he's planning to lure it though going for the kill wow dang telling him what he needs to [Music] hear what is [Music] it dang oh he's he's luring it okay sticking with the plan for now uhoh at a boy you want him to do that oh it's fade the explosion of the laser is just so good good so well done he's weak oh it's working they really making sure this is tight oh no do it do it early got him he blasting off again again oh he's oh he just shut down it's too quiet oh no it's too quiet yep oo it's working cable stopped oh no oh no that's not part of the [Music] plan let him [Music] fight wow look at that working oh he's not happy put him back down put him back down oh I should have left him down there oh no the silence is so loud you know oh to the rescue it's your shot he did eject yeah made the right choice live for your child yeah he was telling him right before that like about the men who died and it felt like he was almost guilting him but fact that he told him to live that's that's all he needed to hear person who first put that guilt in his head oh wow yeah he's dead dead [Music] hey you redeemed yourself there a reason why you lived this is [Music] it what did it say she still alive whoa she survived wow I did not see that [Music] coming wow yeah that internal War marer propose right now stop wasting time wow now this is his second chance of life right here and to think he almost didn't live he didn't want to live he had to make that choice of whether to reject or not and he did oh my god wow is that war ever truly over Godzilla minus one wow jeez what a movie Godzilla minus one wow this honestly might be my favorite Godzilla movie ever the original Godzilla movie had been my favorite granted I haven't seen all of them uh there were like 50 of them but I do think this is my new favorite Godzilla movie it really does feel like an omage to the original one in a way and I think I mentioned this in the reaction but I do really enjoy how they brought it back to its roots and how this is about the atomic bomb and the aftermath of it I think the newer movies a I I believe they changed the meaning for it to be more about climate change and B you get these epic battles between all these monsters but you see cities being destroyed you see buildings crumbled but you don't actually get the real human Stakes or Consequences from that and this movie really grounds those stakes in an emotional way and you get the consequences of a Godzilla attack and the way they do that is really focusing on the main character here seeing how Godzilla is destroying his life specifically and the consequences and the loss that comes with his attack that comes with the atomic bomb in real life it really anchors the story in an emotional way that just works so well we almost forget that Godzilla is a metaphor for Destruction he's a physical embodiment of what the atomic bomb did to Japan and the fact that they turn him into a monster that can be defeated and get that catharticism through that it really shines through in this movie which is again like what the original was about and that meaning has kind of lost its way and I like that they brought it back on the human emotional side of things of course this is a story about guilt and Trauma and overcoming that blame that you put on yourself this movie is very well written I will say I felt like it really was so honed in on its theme uh you see movies especially movies of the scale get kind of distracted by a bunch of different factors of of entertainment and theme and and multiple themes in a movie this movie is so focused on what it's about and it just really delivers on that message I love the commentary on overcoming Godzilla and the war that ensues and having it be about Hope and the freedom to live and not about just death and destruction and nonsensical casualties it's about fighting for the future and ultimately it's the future that the main character decides to live for that all these characters decide to live for at the end also and I know this movie won the Oscar for it but the visual effects amazing I did not expect to see Godzilla as much as I did in this movie I think for some reason maybe I thought it was a lowbudget film uh clearly it wasn't or if it was the budget was used very efficiently the choices made for Godzilla specifically were just like everything knocked out of the park loved the way he charged up loved his heat ray how it literally had the explosion of the atomic bomb the similar mushroom pattern uh the little silence that happens right before the explosion I mean obviously it was it was the atomic bomb that's what they were doing but it was just so well done and they really honed in on just the pure horror of Godzilla just having watched Godzilla Kong the new Empire which I did a reaction to and I enjoy that movie very much because I love the spectacle of the Titan fights I think those are just very fun over-the-top movies this being a much more grounded human emotional story is way more up my alley and it just felt so good to once again again be so emotionally moved by a Godzilla movie
