Best Free VST Plugins You Should Grab in 2021

today i'm looking at 50 that's right 5-0 of the best free vst plug-ins available in 2021 and these are plug-ins that i actually use in my projects and you'll use in yours because they sound great from modern synths to compressors guitar amp sims to reverbs plus much more i'm zane welcome to audio tech tv where it's my goal to help you conquer the text so you can unleash your creativity and links and time codes to all of the plugins mentioned in this video are down in the description but right now let's jump in and first up on the list is the free version of vital from mattel this is a spectral warping wavetable synthesizer and the free version comes with 75 presets that you can use as starting points you can get vital on mac windows and linux [Music] next up is a free pitch shifter plug-in from mv's plug-ins this is midi choir this is a pitch shifter tool that can transpose your audio in real time you just need to use midi to program or play your notes it was designed to help create vocal harmonies but you could use this like a auto-tune type of plug-in but it's not auto so if that's something you're looking for this free option is a great choice midi choir is available as a 64-bit or 32-bit vst plug-in and is only available on windows third on the list and this list isn't in any particular order by the way but the third free vst plugin on the list is tdr molotok from tokyo don lab this is an incredible free compressor plug-in you can use it on buses or on individual tracks and it's going to sound great if you checked out the video where i used only free vsts to mix a song you would have seen that i put this on quite a few things it does color your tracks a bit so if you're looking for a transparent compressor this one isn't for you but if you want to add some nice harmonic character to your tracks download tdr molotok you can get it on windows and mac [Music] fourth on the list of best free vst plugins in 2021 is steven slate drums ssd 5.5 this is a very nice sounding free drum plugin you get all of the features of the full plug-in but access to only one of the deluxe 2 kits but you get 3 kit presets with that if you're after great sounding drums give the steven slate ssd 5.5 free drum plugin a try it's available on mac and windows fifth on the list is royal compressor second hand from united plug-ins this is a very nice very mu style compressor plug-in and to get it you need to download the demo of the full version of royal compressor and when the demo runs out it automatically turns into the second hand version but this does limit it a little bit but those limitations also simplify its use and it's still very usable you can get it on mac and windows now on to number six and this one is probably one of my favorite free eq plugins this is tdr nova from tokyo dawn lab again if you watch the video where i mixed a song using only free plugins i put this plugin on pretty much every single track it's super easy to use and it also has a great spectrum analyzer that can be set for input output or side chain plus there's also dynamic controls for each band you can get tdr nova on windows and mac seventh on the list of best free vst plugins is technically not free but they let you use the free trial totally unlocked forever and there's two limitations you can't save your own presets and when you load a project that has this plugin in it it won't load the settings that you had last but that's fine if you're just going to be using presets and this has a lot this is a huge plugin it's obzilla from together audio this is a huge fm synthesizer with 150 fully editable sounds it has a single page interface making it easy to dial in your sound without having to hop around to different views and it also has pay what you want pricing starting at just 10 but like i said you can also use the free trial indefinitely totally unlocked with those saving limitations obviously pay for it if you can but if you're unable to right now this is a great fm synth to get into together audio op zilla is available on mac and windows the eighth plugin on the list is a great one for guitarists this is nadir from stl tones this is a great impulse response loader that actually comes with some very usable impulse responses you can load more than one at a time plus it gives you some mix controls you can use this with any amp sim that doesn't have a cabinet sim included or you can record hybrid like going from your actual guitar amp into your daw and then you use this as your cabinet nadir comes with the emissary bundle and it's available on windows and mac [Music] all right before i get into the next free vst plugin on the list i just want to ask if you're enjoying this video so far and getting some value out of it can emulation of the classic hammond b3 organ it's based on the emulation of the 91 tone wheels which rotate permanently giving you natural key clicks you can get the lost in 70s hanon b70 on mac and windows tenth on the list is reviver from 1208 audio plugins this is an exciter type of plugin that i put on the master bus or mix bus of a song and it really glues things together and thickens things up i highly recommend it on your master or mix bus but it can also be used on individual tracks or buses as well you can get reviver on windows only [Music] at number 11 is the bbc orchestra plug-in from spitfire audio if you need it right away it costs 49 or you can get it for free if you don't mind waiting 14 days just click the or free button fill out the form and wait for your free plugin to arrive in your email it's well worth the wait as you get a full 33 instrument orchestra at your fingertips you can get it on both mac and windows at number 12 on the list of best free vst plugins in 2021 is a reverb plugin this is convol gxt from impulse response this is a convolution reverb style plugin that includes 70 vintage impulse response files the presets are very easy to access and you can add your own impulse responses too you can get this one on windows and mac now coming in at lucky number 13 is fresh air from slate digital first off i want to say you must have an ilock account to use this but getting an ilock account is free to set up and you don't need an actual dongle you'll just need an internet connection as this uses the cloud this easy to use plug-in can help you remove muddiness from your vocals master drums or wherever you need to remove muddiness from you can get slate digital fresh air on mac and windows [Applause] [Music] [Applause] 14th on the list is one of my favorite free drum machine plugins this is rip mix you get 16 mpc style pads and you can edit the sample in each pad however you like you also get a 16 step sequencer built right into rip mix allowing you to generate rhythms quickly by either clicking or recording your performance on the mpc pads rip mix is only available on windows [Music] sixteenth on the list is mjuc jr from kleinhelm this is a compressor plug-in that's based on the classic verimu compressor and it's a slimmed down version of the full clanghelm mjuc plugin it has two knobs and a three position timing switch making it fairly easy to use you can get it on mac and windows [Music] [Music] 17th on the list of best free vst plugins of 2021 is complete start from native instruments this is actually a bundle of several high quality free plugins you get guitar rig player several synth plugins in contact player the reactor player plus much more it's an awesome bundle of plugins that you should definitely grab you can get complete start on windows and mac [Music] at 18 on the list is m compressor from melda production this is a pretty powerful compressor that features compression shape controls giving you some more flexibility and visuals for your compression it has some decent presets to use as starting points and you can get the m compressor on both windows and mac [Music] next up at 19 on the list of best free vst plugins in 2021 is ozone imager from izotope this is actually the imager module from the ozone plugin this plugin will allow you to transform mono sounds to stereo and it will also help you to widen your mixes and your tracks it's extremely easy to use and it provides great visuals you can get ozone imager on mac and windows [Music] [Applause] at 20 on the list is the surrealistic mg1 from cherry audio this is an emulation of the realistic concertmate mg1 which was designed by tandy and moog music engineers and sold at radio shack stores from 1982 to 83. it includes 130 presets to get you started and you can get the surrealistic mg1 on both mac and windows number 21 on the list is another one from tokyo dawn lab this is another free eq plugin it's slick eq this is a very easy to use and great sounding eq plug-in it can be used in pretty much any situation it has a nice clean sound to go with the clean interface you can get the slick eq on windows and mac [Music] up next at 22 is the saturation knob from softube this one is fairly straightforward you have a saturation knob and then a switch to select the saturation type keep high will keep the highs relatively intact but saturate more of the lower end keep low keeps the low end intact while saturating the highs and neutral will saturate it all you can get soft tube saturation knob on windows and mac at 23 on the list is another free vst instrument plug-in this is tuxedo from reflect audio and tacky branno this is a beautiful sounding spacey grand hall piano it can deliver a very convincing real piano sound or use some of the onboard effects to create something totally unique you can get tuxedo on mac and windows 24th on the list is base deluxe from lost in 70s this is a two base amp simulation with two channels that are easily switchable plus you get a pedal board with your typical base effects and a cabinet simulation option that you can either have on or off i really like this bass amp and you can get it on both mac and windows [Music] up next at 25 is sub divine light from diginoise this is a limited but still very powerful version of their 808 style bass instrument it comes with six presets to get you started and you can get sub divine light on windows and mac at 26 is another great reverb plug-in this is valhalla supermassive reverb this is an algorithmic reverb that is capable of creating some huge reverb and echo sounds it has over 10 modes which are the algorithms and each mode has its own character or sound this could be your one and only go-to reverb for pretty much any situation you can get valhalla supermassive on windows and mac [Music] 27th on the list is bpb dirty filter this is a dual filter effect with tube distortion it features a high pass and low pass filter a mix knob volume control and of course the drive knob which controls the resonance for both filters and the amount of tube distortion that's applied to the signal it's available on mac and pc in both 32 and 64 bit options [Music] [Applause] number 28 on the list of best free vst plugins is tyrell n6 from yuhi this one was created by yuhi for a german magazine it's a compact synth and it's based on the design that's similar to a roland juno 60. tyrell n6 is available on mac and windows [Music] the 29th free plugin on the list is one of my favorite delay plugins this is baby audio's baby comeback baby comeback is a simple delay plug-in with your typical controls but it also adds a flavor section with four flavors that adjust the character of the plugin there's wide analog saucy and cheap and you can get baby audio baby comeback on both windows and mac all right at big number 30 is one of my favorite lo-fi plug-ins this is izotope vinyl recently revamped this plugin simulates the dust scratches warp and mechanical noise from a classic record player and you can control each element independently you can add a little grid or a whole lot of vinyl noise izotope vinyl is available on mac and windows [Music] 31 on the list is a great modern free synth plugin this is pendulate from newfangled audio and eventide pendulate is a mono synth that uses a new oscillator design to produce sounds different from any other synth it definitely has some cool and different sounds in it but you can still get some of those old-school analog sounds that you love you can get pendulate on mac and windows at 32 on the list of best free vst plugins in 2021 is a plug-in that i think i use on pretty much every one of my tracks this is magic switch from baby audio i use this one on backing vocals on pretty much every one of my tracks and it's based on the chorus effect that's found on the classic juno synthesizers it's a subtle effect that can be that missing ingredient on vocals guitars bases pads or whatever you want to put it on you can get magic switch on windows and mac [Music] 33 on the list is tape cassette 2 from kalem audio this is a saturation plugin that adds the character noise and warmth of a cassette tape use it on your entire mix or on individual tracks you can get tape cassette 2 on windows and mac [Music] at number 34 on the list is cherry audio voltage modular nucleus 2. this is the latest version of cherry audio's incredible free modular synth it includes a collection of 22 modules and over 170 presets you can get this plug-in on both windows and mac the 35th plug-in on the list is another incredible delay plug-in this is the gsi vari-speed copycat ic-400 this plug-in emulates the watkins copycat ic 400 which is a vintage tape delay unit you can get simple delay effects or huge crazy delay sounds with this plugin you can get the gsi verispeed copycat ic 400 on mac and windows next up is another great free vst plugin for guitarists this is ignite emissary from stl tones this is a great modern guitar amp sim and if you're into heavier styles of music you should really grab this one it can deliver modern sounding distortions or nice bright cleans plus all the overdriven crunchy goodness in between you can get the ignite emissary on windows and mac [Music] [Applause] [Music] coming in at number 37 is mt power drum kit 2. this is a virtual drummer style plug-in offering you the realistic sounds of a drum kit that can be ideally suited for use in pop rock and metal productions mt power drum kit 2 also includes some decent grooves that provide a good starting point for your songs you can get this one on mac windows and linux [Music] up next at 38th on the list is coffee the pun from acoustica audio this is a free poltex style eq and preamp plugin it can shine on vocals drums especially the snare drum or the whole drum buss bass acoustic guitars and pianos it's available on both windows and mac at number 39 on the list of best free vst plugins in 2021 is the frontier compressor from d16 group this is an easy to use compressor plug-in and it has a great looking interface it can give you a subtle transparent limiting effect or can be used more aggressively you have to register an account on their website in order to activate it but it's completely free to do that you can get frontier on windows and mac at number 40 is actually a collection of over 30 plugins this is spitfire audio labs these are great for film scoring or adding some real world instrument sounds to your projects if you do film scoring or plan on it these are a must download but of course you can use them in many other situations as well you can get spitfire audio labs on both windows and mac at number 41 is tube amp from vox and go this plugin aims to simulate the sound of a single tube mic preamp it can go from mild warmth to wild fuzz distortion it also has a low pass filter that's supposed to emulate the sound of a lower quality tube you can get vox and go tube amp on mac and windows [Music] at number 42 is ik multimedia's sample tank 4cs this is a free version of sample tank 4 that includes 50 virtual instruments with over 4 gigabytes of virtual instrument sounds and a mixer with 70 effects effects sends plus a master bus sample tank 4 cs is available on mac and windows the 43rd plugin on the list is clanghelm ivgi ivgi can deliver very soft and subtle saturation that can work great on the master bus it's also just as capable of delivering dense and dirty distortion effects to single tracks as well ivgi saturation is available on windows and mac the 44th plug-in on the list is ample base p-light 2. this plug-in aims to bring the sound of the fender precision bass guitar to your home studio it can do hammer-ons pull-offs slopping and many other bass playing styles ample bass plight 2 is probably the best free electric bass guitar plugin out there and you can get it on mac and windows the 45th plugin on the list is oral river reverb this one is an algorithmic reverb that simulates the reverberation of a small room and great hall you get 12 variations of the early reflections three variations of the reverb tail and a 3-band equalizer for the wet signal oral river reverb is available on mac and windows systems [Music] at number 46 on the list is cassette rhodes from sample science this one gives you the sound of an electric piano that's being recorded onto a cassette tape it gives you some settings to adjust so you can dial in your own sound and really create that low-fi e piano of your dreams you can get cassette roads on windows [Music] [Applause] only next up at number 47 is vox and go boogax this is a guitar amp sim with a simple user interface and great sound it also includes some cabinet sims that you can turn on and off or even load your own impulse responses into if you don't care for the big bulky interfaces of most guitar amp sims give vox and go boog x a try it's available on mac and windows up next at 48 is keys of the 70s from lost in 70s this plugin gives you some of the classic sounds from a couple of e-pianos vibraphone and a piano it also has reverb tremolo and chorus effects along with a tube amp cabinet sim overdrive section eq and more you can get keys of the 70s on both windows and mac [Music] at number 49 on the list is bpb saturator this is similar to the bpb distortion plug-in earlier on the list but it's a lightweight saturation plug-in you can use it to warm up virtual synth sounds vocals or even throw it on your mix bus you can get bpb saturation on mac and windows [Music] now coming in at number 50 is synth one this synth has been modeled after
