in this video we'll be taking a look at the best free vst instrument plugins for 2020 like this one [Music] hi folks i'm mike and i hope you will so i've been trying to figure out what are the best free vst instrument plugins for 2020 and i've put together my top five for this video now i think it's really important when you're listening to virtual instruments to hear them in the context of an actual piece of music so i've taken all of these instruments together and i've put them all in one piece of music for you to listen to at the end of the video so please do stick around for that now i'm doing these in reverse order finishing off with my absolute favorite for 2020 so let's get started with number five five so in at number five we have the hannah b70 from lost in seventies this is an emulation of the famous hammond b3 organ paired with a leslie 122 amplifier and speaker to give you that famous spinning speaker sound now over the years i've often reached for the hammond sound in my music because it's vintage in sound but it also works really well with contemporary and modern music as well and when i do that because i'm not much of a keyboard player i often reach for the whiter shade of pale preset let me know if you do the same and i try and sound like the record which i don't and i'm not going to do that now instead i'm going to play a different piece of music and i'm going to mess around with some of the controls on the screen here notably i'll be messing around with the drawbar controls they make a big difference to the sound of a hammond organ the vibrato controls over here and also the percussion controls you get this kind of click at the beginning of a note with a hammond organ sometimes and you may or may not want that to be pronounced to varying degrees in your music so they do give you some control over that so let's have a listen to this awesome free plugin now [Music] so if you do decide this is a plugin you can make use of and you follow the link in the description down below just be careful to follow the instructions carefully first of all you'll go to the webpage and it'll be in french and if you don't speak french that's not very useful so make sure you click on the english language symbol in the top right and then do follow the instructions because there's no installer with this so you need to make sure you put the files in the correct place now while you're there you'll notice they have some other free plugins available and one of them which is i think it's called either vinky or keys of the 70s i've also slipped that into my piece of music at the end i'll put a link to that in the description as well and i've used that for the fender rhodes sound but there's a few other sounds you get with that plug-in as well such as the piano sound clavinet um some wurlitzer organ sounds as well so definitely check that out as well four so at number four we have the ample sound ample bass p2 light of course based upon if you'll excuse the pun the fender precision bass arguably one of the most famous bass sounds of the last few decades and apple sound have made such a great job that i reckon they beat most commercial bass plugins just with this one and they have some really great commercial plugins of their own now of course you get the basic sound which we'll play now but you also get a lot of control over that with slide-ins hammer-ons all of that kind of good stuff as well as some sound effects that you'll hear up here that kind of things slaps and that kind of thing and all of that adds together to make a really authentic sounding base and i often use it in my pieces of music despite owning a few commercial libraries as well so let's have a listen to this great bass guitar [Music] now if you follow the link in the description as i think you should you should just have this in your library then also check out their free acoustic guitar i'll put that up on the screen now the ample guitar m2 light if you're looking for an acoustic guitar sound and you're not an acoustic guitar player then this is a really really good starting point so check that one out as well and that may or may not have featured in my piece of music at the end of this video three so at number three we have steven slate drums the free edition this one gives me a real kick in fact it's ensnared me with its charm it's become a symbol of free plugins to me i think i better stop before i crash and you give me too much stick in the comments the reason why i like this plugin above the other really great free drum plugins that you have out there is that it's just really good across the board the others tend to be great for specific genres of music but this one is going to suit a lot of music from pop to rock even some jazz bit of blues that kind of stuff as well you do get this free deluxe drum kit with it and within the plug-in you get the ability to make some edits to the drums so you've got control over attack decay sustain release all that kind of good stuff some velocity options there as well over individual drums that is then you can go ahead and actually mix them through this mixer which also has the ability to output to separate channels within your daw so you can keep control over your drum mix from your daw console as well then you also have some really great grooves which come with it as well so that can really get you kick-started with your new creations so i won't talk any further i'm sure i'm driving you crazy already let's have a listen to this great sounding kit [Music] two so unit number two we have another example of a free plug-in which really rivals its commercial counterparts in terms of quality of sound this is the monastery grand from melda production it's a free library which loads into their m sound factory player which is a free plug-in from milder production as well i'll put a link to both of these down in the description and if you do decide to go ahead and use this one do remember to load the m sound factory player plugin into your daw first and then load in this monastery grand library now it sounds really awesome out of the box in my opinion but you do get some control over the sound as well you can see on the screen some tone controls over here some anatomy and high keys controls and in the middle you get these controls over three microphones and with the way they're labeled here i keep feeling that they belong to me in some way let me know in the comments down below if you agree that this is the correct spelling of mics in the plural i'm not sure hmm anyway let's see how this piano sounds out of the box [Music] so before i move on to my number one pick i'd like you to ponder for a moment on the fact that we get loads of free stuff these days things like these plugins but also free videos on home recording daws gear reviews plugin reviews that kind of thing if you do like that kind of content the stuff like you get on this channel then make sure you subscribe and ring the bell on youtube so that you're notified about my other videos now let's see what's at number one one so at number one we have some absolute insanity this is the bbc symphony orchestra plug-in from spitfire audio now spitfire audio are renowned for their high quality orchestral plugins already and this is no exception but what's really crazy about this is this plugin normally costs 50 which is insanely cheap for what you get in it now at the moment if you follow the link in the description you just have to follow out a simple questionnaire and they're gonna give you this plugin for free now that's at the time of making this video and it's been like that for a few months now i don't know how long it will go for so make sure you get there right away fill out the questionnaire and they'll send you a link to the plugin in a couple of weeks time so you do have to wait a little bit but it is definitely worth the wait let's see what's in there you get basically a whole orchestra in there and it's arranged like an orchestra in its different sections so for example if we go across to the violins section here i'll click on that that's loaded up and you do get some different articulations so we've got long spiccato pixar and tremolo on those violins let's just have a listen to the basic sound the long sound [Music] spiccato let's try big zicato awesome stuff so you get violins one violins two which has a slightly different sound by the way these are all panned accordingly to the way they're arranged in the normal fashion with an orchestra then we go over to some violas over here let's have a listen lovely and there's some different articulations on those as well then we have some cellos great then some bases rumbly then over here we have some horns i really like the sound of the horns so majestic and then some different brass over here trumpets we have some trombones also some bass trombones there tubers all good stuff let's just have a quick listen to that tuber i haven't listened to it just had to do that then we have some woodwind over here piccolo's we have some flutes oboes clarinets i love the sound of clarinets let's have a quick listen to those [Music] so good makes me want to write disney music right away for some reason some bassoons and then we have a bunch of stuff up here like that the harps um things like that then we have some percussive sounds which i have used in the demo at the end and also some tuned percussion things like i've used the marimba at the end let's have a listen to that [Music] just such a great array of sounds you also do get some control over expression over here and this big dial here is for reverb or reverb as i'm known to say all in all such an awesome plugin if i make a video like this again next year i'll be very surprised if this isn't number one again somebody's going to have to come along with something stupendous i love that word to beat this one so definitely go ahead follow the link in the description fill out the survey or if you can't wait then just spend the 50 bucks and get it so as i said i've put all of these instruments together in one piece of music now the thing is i only wrote and recorded that piece of music last night so i don't have a title for it yet so can you let me know down in the comments down below after you've heard it what you think the title should be for this piece of music [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so which one of these excites you most and you're going to download it right away let me know in the comments down below now if you did like this video make sure you hit the like button that lets youtube know that other people should see this video as well if you don't like free stuff when this video just made you even more grumpy hit the dislike button twice and if you do like this kind of content then make sure you hit the subscribe button and ring the bell on youtube so that you are notified about my future videos and i'll see you down in the comments you thought i was going to say in the next video didn't you i
