desktops and laptops made in the last 10 years or so can handle multiple displays they usually have ports like HDMI display port or USBC that are ready for you to plug in extra screens plus if you've a gaming PC or a higher end machine it probably comes with a graphics card that has multiple outputs built right in this means you're good to go with dual monitors right out of the box but even the basic computers today have at least one HDMI or display port ready to connect to another screen and if you're still rocking a computer from the 9s that doesn't have any spear ports no judgment dude you can grab an adapter that turns a USB port into an HDMI or display port connection it's a quick and affordable fix usually around $20 and gives your old computer a new lease on life and for the laptop users the USBC Port is your best bet it can usually power a second screen directly with a simple adapter or a hub so you don't need any extra video connections so no matter what kind of computer you have there's a good chance you can set it up with dual monitors now let's pick your second screen basically there are tons of options out there depending on what you're looking for and how much you want to spend LG Dell Asus Ben q and whatnot it all depends on your needs let's say you're using your computer for everyday tasks like work emails or browsing online a 1080p monitor around 24 to 27 in is usually a great option it gives you plenty of extra space to work with plus you can easily find a good quality 1080p monitor for under $150 but if you're a video editor coder or just someone who wants more screen space consider getting a larger monitor look for one that's 32 to 49 in in size and has sharp 4K resolution for a dope display if you care about smooth fast moving images choose a monitor with a high refresh rate of 144 Herz or more however these larger high performance monitors are expensive typically starting around $500 if you're a gamer look for a monitor with low response times and 144 Herz or more refresh rate while you're at it it'd be cherry on top to get monitors labeled as am D free sync or Nvidia g-sync compatible why well the problem is in fast-paced games your graphics card produces images faster than your monitor can display them that mismatch causes screen tearing where the image seems to split and sometimes stuttering where the image freezes for a moment freesync or g-sync technology dynamically synchronizes your monitor's refresh rate to match your graphics card output frame rate they are awesome for the smoothest most tear-free gaming experience possible both AMD and Nvidia offer graphics cards compatible with their respective Technologies make sure your graphics card supports either freesync or g-sync before buying a compatible Monitor and to truly take advantage of the smooth visuals provided by free sync / gsync get larger monitors like 27 or 32 in with 4K again make sure the ports on your computer and uncheck mirror displays if you want to use both screens as separate desktops not just duplicates for Linux users just search for displays in your app menu and drag the monitor icons around to match how your screens are physically set up you can also change the resolution orientation and which screen is your main one from this same menu once your second monitor is up and running take a moment to your main work on the primary monitor for example if you're writing an essay coding or working on spreadsheets keep that on your main screen so you can focus on it and your second screen can be used for other stuff that you just need to check from time to time like looking up information chatting with friends listening to music or whatever else you might need you can also customize the second see what you're working on if you edit photos use your second monitor for just looking at your pictures adoring that way you get a full view of the image without any distractions if you're a
