yo what is up everybody it is crunch time in cataclysm classic and we have vital phase one information to discuss thousands of players are gearing up to enter Blackwing descent for on nixia episode 2 attack of the Clones but times of change since Wrath of the Lich King if your glass doesn't pump out chart topping damage you risk sitting on the bench while your hated Rivals blast through the raid without you so if you're looking to secure your raid spot blasting evil two-headed ogre bosses you don't want to be relegated to the bench keep listening so some players might ask why make a DPS tier list before we're deep into the phase and before we have Cho gallon Farm the thing is really the systems in cataclysm right now they punish rrolling if you pick the wrong class for example your thean shoulder enchant it's not buying an account since thean took me over a dozen hours to do on just one character I really wouldn't want to do it on a bunch of all either so really if there is a a single time to roll in cataclysm it would be at exactly this point it's during the most hype time where players are actually excited to run Black Rock caverns and the thought of running tovir doesn't just make people extremely angry and so this time around for the first DPS tier list in cataclysm your boy came prepared not only did I go on the PTR Around the Clock raiding on classes like fire mes and boomkins but but throughout all those different raids I also made careful notes of which glasses were blasting and which glasses were kind of falling behind and then as a final piece of evidence verification I compared PTR logs from all the top guilds and factored those in as well I also factored in AOE damage and I wanted to give credit to classes that bring High utility as well so let's get started with the B tier starting off in the B tier we have Druids now to be sure boomkins with their new works are very fun to play and that was my go-to spec for leveling and for dungeons too gone are the RNG days of Wrath replaced with a nice reliable meter where every single cast works you closer to a Sun or a moon phase but that stability does come at a cost though because your single Target damage is unfortunately sort of middle of the pack meanwhile feral Druids are doomed to obscurity as well forever brought to raids for their off tanking and their utility but also forever invisible on the meters too talking AOE AOE is really where things should look up for Druids well not for ferals unless you like pressing swipe but for boomkins they do have their Starfall blasting they've got their new wild mushrooms to detonate they've even got hurricane to pump out damage too but unfortunately even machine gunning out light beams it's just not enough to compete with the kings of AOE like the LA Shaman and the fire Mages as for Druid utility bad news on that for front battle res is now brought by death Knights now and interent been really nerfed into the ground still Thorns does provide a relevant threat generation tool for tanks and Stampede really is very strong for ferals before you mention Tranquility personally in Kata I found that tran rarely saves a group if they're destined to die they kind of just die it's like Final Destination the verdict boomkins aren't going to impress anybody but they are reliable source damage and utility too and ferals have some of the highest utility in the game especially with their ability to off tank when needed in the end Druids are a middle of the- pack class and they fit pretty nicely into the B tier next let's talk red paladins so red Paladin they have a much more active new rotation and it should provide high damage output without having to beg your guild for a shadow but in my personal experience I never really saw a red Paladin very high on the meters in my PTR testing it could have just been that I was playing with undergeared paladins but in an unlucky twist of fate the red Paladin DPS Sim is actually the only one not working right now as well so for launch I'm going with my own personal experience which is to say that RS are going to be between the load of middle of the pack in terms of DPS so for AOE RS are still bringing very good AOE to the table particularly the Divine storm and the Consecration and their seals of command Talent as well but all those multi-target fights they're going to be much much worse than say a shadow priest like we just talked about so RS are really the kings of utility and it's the reason you bring them they're rebuke interrupt they're 3% damage buff of course their kings and might as well the verdict red pons you're going to have a spot in any 25 man most 10 man as well Ritz go in the way upper B tier starting off the a tier we have priest I know you want me to tell you that shadow priests are going to be topping the meters in Blackwing descent after all they've got their new abilities like Arch Angel the new Shadow orb that's a new RNG mechanic to amp up your DPS but in the end Shadow priests usually H around the 6 to8 range in terms of DPS and they've got a chance to move up whenever multi-d comes into play as for AOE Shadow priests are still one of the kings of multi- doting and with two or three targets Shadow priest really do start to shine but when you get into those really big poles the Minds here just can't keep Pace with classes like fire Mages talking priest utility Shadow priest utility will definitely guarantee them a raid spot for life and it's not just because they offer replenishment either that 5% spell haste is just pretty hard to find anywhere else particularly for 10 man's and we really can't rate Divine hm and him of Hope highly enough these are two completely Irreplaceable CDs that definitely help to carry difficult raid encounters the verdict Shadow priests provide so much utility that they practically forced themselves into a raid spot in 25 mans and even most 10 man as well in a rare case for cataclysm their utility is actually so strong that their middle of the pack DPS simply just doesn't matter Shadow priest fit nicely into the a tier talking rogues rogues and Kata get a real treat and that is PVE viability with all three specs finally that being said still mostly only saw assassination in my PTR sessions Now Sims might put all three specs near the top in terms of DPS but first I don't expect to see a sub Rogue anytime soon at least for a few phases and second in my own personal experience Rogues were closer to six to 10 of most fights so for AOE I know we all love fan of knives to be sure but combat Rogues are really insane with their blade flurry cleave too now for utility the three different Rogue specs they bring different but equally replaceable Buffs to the raid like 4% physical damage and of course you've got your kick your exposed Armor All your favorite Rogue abilities the verdict hey you've got three viable specs to choose from it's a pretty great expansion to be playing Rogue and not just for the Legendary Weapons either Rogues get a nice spot in the a tier also in the a tier we have the warrior so the new arms rotation is quite different you've got abilities like Colossus smash Buffs like inner rage but you are still AB absolutely ripping through mobs arms does so much damage that it completely pushes Fury to the side it really becomes a dominant Warrior spec of cataclysm talking AOE which has always been such a strong point for warriors it's no different here with sweeping strikes Whirlwind cleave arms Warriors have all the tools to top the AOE damage meters and they're definitely going to as for utility in typical cata fashion your utility just kind of overlaps with four other classes sure you've got standouts like Pummel for interrupts and you've got taunt to save potential trash wipes but ultimately Warriors are just not really being brought for utility the verdict arms Warriors rip through the damage meters for both single Target and AOE damage their low utility really doesn't matter because this is an expansion maximizing damage because of that Warriors go in the a tier also in the a tier we have warlock so some of the highest damage blasters I played with on the PTR they were warlocks particularly demonology one of the new reasons for that is the demon soul buff and it even introduces pet twisting to maximize damage Affliction meanwhile gets Soul swap making them very very good on two target fights trust me cataclysm has a lot of those fights as for AOE demo locks have huge AOE with their fell Storm from the felg guard The Shadow blame the Hellfire meanwhile Affliction locks they get to spam seed of corruption so talking warlock utility Shadow and Flame the 5% crit bonus can only be brought by warlocks or Mages and so that instantly makes warlocks into utility Gods uniquely as well though they can bring hell stones to the table and that makes warlocks almost Irreplaceable for 10 man the verdict so top tier damage rare Buffs really Warlock are essential for both 10 and 25 mans compared to the kings of the S tier though warlocks are just a very small amount behind and ultimately they go in the a tier so starting off the S tier we have death Knights particularly Unholy dks they're the kings of Death Knight DPS and they essentially push Frost dks to the side in my PTR testing on holy dks were're just always near the top of the meters even on single Target as for AOE you're pretty much spreading your diseases your death and k your blood boil and boom you're just at the top of the meters death Knights are one of the most reliable choices for AOE damage for both trash and for Cle fights as well as for utility really you don't bring much okay everything you're bringing is replicated by like six other classes the new battle res though is invaluable for 10 mans and let me tell you it is amazing to have in dungeons as well the verdict dks are definitely must have for 10 man's but they're also one of the the most stackable classes for 25 mans bring one bring four I don't care just bring it to the a tier so moving into the S tier for the first time we have Shaman if there's one class that out DPS me consistently in cataclysm raids it was definitely the shaman this is made so much more frustrating by the fact that Ellie Shaman is Far and Away the easiest rotation in the game alongside your totems and your Buffs like your lightning Shield really it's just flame shock lightning bolt lava Burst when the button lights up you press their shock another really annoying thing about Ellie Shaman is that they'll typically sneak up on you and pass you last minute in the burn phase because they have all these really strong cooldowns like fire ell totem as for the enhanced Shaman debate it's just kind of hard to justify bringing the lower DPS spec it's similar to The Fury versus arms debate as for AOE ell shamans have this awesome tool kit particularly the chain lightning hits so hard you'll routinely see these Elli shamas just jumping up in the meters when I was playing my fire Mage it was just so annoying because I'd feel like I'm playing flawlessly and then I use all my cool Downs I look up the El sham is just right ahead of me again talking utility though as with most other catac classes your Buffs just kind of overlap and now your biggest utility and blood lust can be brought by other classes like Mages one exception though is Elemental oath that is certainly something that is possibly going to be missing in your next 10 man might be a cop out to say this but really your utility comes from your massive reliable damage and also your wind shear interrupt as well the verdict shamans are so easy the damage is so good you're going to see a lot of pug raids stacking more than a few of them if you want to top The Meters while you're playing your bed from a laptop there really is no better choice and as a result shamans go firmly into the S tier next up we've got to talk about hunters there really is only one hunter spec I saw in all of my hours of slaying Cho on nixia but while those mm Hunters are going to be doing an exit stage left in cataclysm there is still hope for BM Hunters so stay tuned but really the only spec I saw in all of those PTR sessions it was survival Hunter really the only real downside to survival Hunter I could find is that their passive sniper training it rewards being stationary so much throughout the fight that you're never going to reach the highs that the simulators say you're going to jumping into AOE it feels like Aja Vu for season of Discovery you've got your explosive shot your multi-shot explosive trap it's so similar that maybe I'm thinking blizzard made Seas of Discovery to trick us into playing cataclysm I don't know what you guys think about that just a little bit of a conspiracy as with seemingly every other version of the game you also get your ice trap and that's going to very much help on some fights to prevent your healer which is me from getting completely ravaged just a minute ago I was talking about how BM Hunters still have a place in this game as well BM Hunters can actually bring pretty much any raid buff in the whole game things like blood lust Blessing of Kings I could easily see a very desperate 25 man adding a BM Hunter even though they do a lot less damage than survival the verdict with a relatively easy rotation reliable chart topping damage for both single Target and AOE Hunters really are the foundation of any serious heroic raid and that means they go directly in the S tier rounding out the kings of DPS we have the mage so for single Target there is simply no more fun or overpowered class than fire Mage in Phase One Man combustion feels amazing and hot streak feels even better fire Mages are so strong that they completely Edge Arcane Mages out entirely so talking AOE combustion spreading with fire blast impact is incredible damage and of course living bomb is always great a word of caution here though I was not always top damage on fire Mage it's cool down Reliant it's orang Reliant don't be surprised if that La Shaman takes your top spot it's kind of Hit or Miss so talking utility the mes are bringing critical mass and they're one of the only two classes to bring it so that's already just a huge bonus I didn't forget either that they also bring blood lust so yeah Mages are pretty great on utility the verdict they're stackable they're awesome at everything they're the kings of DPS in phase one you really can't argue it they are really the ultimate s tier class so we've gone through a journey from the worst to the best DPS in cataclysm Phase 1 we must now go forth into a new Azeroth filled with fire Mages Ellie Shaman survival Hunters I can only humbly thank you for watching and ask you to subscribe before we drown in extremely angry comments from Enhancement Shaman but before I do that drowning I've got to ask which class you think really deserves a buff in phase one I mean after all blizzard has admitted they're going to be doing quite a bit of class tuning in the next couple months click the screen right now to see everything blizzard promises to change in the future in cataclysm classic
