hey friends welcome back to the garage my name is Jim with Philly fixed really glad to have you here we've got all seven Dewalt impact drivers that are currently on the market including the brand new DCF 845 XR Flagship model that is new for 2023. we're going to see how this one Stacks up to all the rest we're going to do a bunch of tests let's get right to it [Music] first we'll see which model can drive four inch by number 10 deck screws into pressure treated lumber more quickly then we'll repeat the test with quarter inch by six inch lags to demonstrate moderate torque performance on each tool finally we'll test the maximum nut busting torque starting with the four inch number 10 deck screws I'll drive three with each tool and add up the total driving time keep an eye on the left side of the screen to see how the tools stack up as we go shorter bars are better starting with a brushed 885 which has been out for 12 years now [Music] foreign [Music] the brushless Atomic 809 and the 787 both getting beat by the brushed 885 these are budget brushless models but I'm still surprised to see them getting beat by a tool that came out over a decade ago 887 up next foreign [Music] [Music] the 850 and 887 coming in neck and neck the 840 is the one to beat here let's see if the 845 can come out on top foreign the 845 coming in just barely behind the 840 but coming in ahead of the previous Flagship 887 and the atomic 850. I'm still pretty impressed by that old 885 with the brushed motor let's see how these tools do with quarter inch lags gonna Speed the video up because some of these take a while [Applause] foreign [Music] [Music] the lower tier brushless models and the 885 brushed model really falling behind the rest of the pack as the torque increases here the 840 loses its big lead over the 815 887 compared to the deck screws let's see if this higher torque test is the 845s time to shine [Music] foreign the 845 actually falling from second place to fourth place in this test not a great show for what's supposed to be the new flagship model from DeWalt one last chance for the 845 as we move into the final challenge nut busting torque each tool is gonna have 10 seconds to break the nut free we're gonna go 25 pound increments starting at 275 foot-pounds foreign foreign [Music] okay we're going to switch to this boom alloy bolt and nut also known as grade nine 401.8 [Music] [Music] all right [Music] 400 on the DOT 450.3 [Music] 501.1 now we're going to retry 500 on the 850 with the 5 amp hour power stack [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] the dcf850 the torque Champion here with 475 foot-pounds followed by the 88 700 foot-pounds behind the 787 and 809 doing very poorly in the deck screws but coming in third tied with the brand new 845 a little disappointing there the 885 second to last and the 840 falling from first place on the deck screws to last place on the high torque nut busting test so I think the most surprising thing to me is that the 845 was not the best in either lower torque smaller wood fasting applications as far as speed or higher torque nut busting which I wouldn't do with an impact driver but you know we got to test it and find out what they can do it wasn't the best at either of those I do like how it feels I do like that it's much smoother than the former Flagship 887 I always thought that was like a rock tumbler in your hand but what I'll say is best rest all around it's got to be this 850. uh you know that wider body it gives it a bigger moment of inertia a little bit higher torque it's fast at driving deck screws which is really what these things are made for you can also Drive reasonably sized lags so I think if you had to pick just one impact driver I would pick the 850 if you know that you're only going to be driving something like deck screws all day go with the 840 because it's fast at that application but it is not a torque monster that being said if the 845 is on a good deal you're not going to go wrong with it the other thing that kind of surprised me is that the 845 did so well against the lower tier brushless models um the state 45 was faster on deck screws than a couple of the brushless models and it's got a brushed motor so 845 is much better than I expected what did you guys think put your comments down below let me know hit the like button if you like this video please consider subscribing if you want to see more especially this guy up against some of the other new flagships that came out 2022 my name is Jim with Philly fixed God bless you guys hello I'm Jim David
