it doesn't take long for brush to get out of hand and when it does having the right brush blade can make a very difficult job very easy so the question is which brush blade can make an easy day out of a difficult task well let's get the testing underway and see which brush blade is the best in the first test we'll see how each blade performs on grass and small trees in the second test we'll see how the blades hold up when they come in contact with steel pipe and concrete block in the final test we'll use the damaged blades once again on the same small trees to see how they perform i definitely don't recommend using any type of blade on a curved shaft trimmer 30cc and larger straight shaft trimmer with bike handle grips is the way to go the least expensive blade we'll be testing is this blue cat ele costing only 10.49 the cat ele is made in china according the instructions this blade is designed exclusively for brush cutter do not use for other applications not designed for a circular saw or for a chop saw this blade indicates that it is a directional blade both the leading as well as a trolling edge have been sharpened so it appears that this blade can be used rotating either direction the steel factory equipped trimmer cord dispenser weighs 383 grams the blue cat is actually a little lighter at 336 grams it's a pretty thin blade at 1.6 millimeters blue cat ele is definitely not the sharpest blade we'll be testing today i use the mohs hardness tester on the blades and the blue cat ele is pretty soft at a five before we test the blades on the brush let's first test the blades on the grass regular trim record will serve as our baseline when sweeping side to side the trimmer cord is doing a terrific job of discharging the grass clippings dropping the trimmer head down onto the grass the trimmer line did a great job mulching and discharging the clippings now we'll compare to see how the blades perform on tall grass beginning with the blue cat in order to use any one of these brush blades you have to find the appropriate adapter kit these adapter kits cost anywhere from 10 to about 30 dollars i highly recommend leaving the guard on the trimmer for safety purposes but for the purpose of filming this video i'm taking the guard off so we can get a much better look at the blades in action [Music] the blade didn't do nearly as well at mulching the grass well it did a great job cutting the grass the grass gathered on top of the blade instead of discharging the grass clippings since the blade of my trimmer spins counterclockwise during the testing i'll approach the brush from the right side to avoid kickback the one is tree was just too much for the blue cat and it wasn't able to completely cut through the tree since the blue cat struggled on the one inch material i won't test it on larger diameter trees at 15 this renegade hybrid is the second least expensive brush cutter blade that we'll be testing all 68 teeth have a carbide tip the renegade hybrid is a directional blade made in china weighing only 328 grams the renegade hybrid is actually a little bit lighter than the blue cat the renegade hybrid's carbide teeth look very sharp with a blade thickness of 1.3 millimeters and a carbide tip thickness of 2 millimeters the design should help prevent the blade from experiencing too much friction or getting stuck in the kerf the carbide on the renegade seems to be between an 8 and a 9 in hardness the renegade hybrid did not do well mulching the grass just like the blue cat the renegade did not do well at discharging the clippings either the renegade cut through the one inch tree in under a second and the blade didn't seem to lose very much speed at all the renegade lost a lot of speed on two inch brush but it took less than a second to make the cut the renegade blade lost a lot of speed on the three and a half inch brush and needed seven seconds to make the cut the blade seemed to experience a lot of friction in the kerf while making the cut at a price of 16.99 is this euros brand brush cutter made in china this brush cutter has six different blades and each blade is sharpened on both sides so this brush cutter is bi-directional the euros weighs 400 grams the euros blade thickness is 1.74 millimeters and has a metal hardness of six the six blades of the euros actually did a decent job mulching the grass it also did a slightly better job than the renegade and the blue cat at disbursing the clippings the euros definitely did a better job than the blue cat cutting through the one inch tree but not nearly as well as the renegade the euros definitely did a better job than the blue cap but it's definitely not designed for thick brush the two inch tree was definitely too much for the euros i definitely don't recommend the euros for cutting through heavy brush this thing really struggled and didn't make it through this eight inch 20 tooth oregon brush cutter blade is the fourth least expensive blade we'll be testing at 19.94 the oregon blade is made in sweden according to the packaging information on the back this brush cutter blade is specifically designed for small trees the other possible applications include brush as well as weeds and grass the oregon blade can only be used in one direction the oregon weighs 339 grams the packaging includes instructions on how to sharpen the oregon blade with the blade thickness of 1.5 millimeters and a tooth offset at 2.58 millimeters it has a slightly more aggressive tooth offset than the renegade hybrid the oregon blade has a hardness of six the majority of the blades being tested are mostly round with relatively short teeth this design just doesn't work well for mulching and dispersing the clippings the organ cut through the one inch tree just as well as the renegade it did just as well as the renegade cutting through the two inch brush in under a second at only five seconds the oregon cut through the three and a half inch brush a little bit faster than the renegade if you're looking for a really mean blade this forester blade might be the right one for you this forester blade costs 23.95 and has 20 chainsaw teeth attached to the steel disc the forester blade even comes with a file to sharpen the teeth according to the packaging this forster blade is ideal for all brush cutting applications saw chain cutters are easily sharpened with a round file while the packaging says this blade is ideal for brush according to the warning blade is for cutting grass cutting harder objects could cause trimmer to rebound out of control resulting in property damage serious injury or death the forester blade is made in china the forester blade can only be used in one direction of rotation wow check that blade out this blade looks mean the forester is the heaviest blade yet at 534 grams the teeth have a hardness between a seven and an eight with a blade thickness of 1.7 millimeters and a two thickness of around 7.3 millimeters there's definitely plenty of offset according to the packaging the forster is designed for grass but definitely didn't do well mulching and dispersing the clippings forester is a very heavy blade and the one is tree didn't seem to slow down the forester at all the forester definitely made a faster cut than the oregon and renegade cutting through the two inch tree forster is by far the fastest blade so far cutting through the three and a half inch tree very impressive job at 35 dollars and 80 cents the echo blade is the third most expensive blade we'll be testing it's a 10 inch 80 tooth brush blade recommended for material up to three and a half inch diameter depending on the material being cut and conditioned of the blade made in japan the echo blade is directional the echo is pretty heavy at 507 grams the blade thickness is 1.5 millimeters and the tooth offset is around 2 millimeters it has a blade hardness of five gecko definitely took longer cutting through the one inch tree than the renegade oregon and forester it took the echo around eight seconds to cut through the two inch tree it took around 30 seconds to cut through the three and a half inch tree the second most expensive blade will be testing at dollars and 25 cents is this husqvarna multi 300 3t according to the packaging this steel blade is designed for grass made in norway this is a bi-directional blade both sides have been sharpened the husqvarna is the heaviest blade yet at 582 grams since it's not designed for brush it doesn't have a sharp edge or an offset it's more than twice as thick as some of the other blades at 3.7 millimeters and has a hardness of six thus fauna did the best yet at mulching and dispersing the grass clippings the leading edge of the blade is blunt allowing it to both cut and disperse simultaneously even though the husqvarna is a grass blade it has enough mass to take out a one inch or smaller tree without having a sharp blade and because of the three blade design it just isn't a good option for brush that's over an inch costing four times as much as our least expensive blade at 42.95 is this steel brush cutter blade made in japan this brush cutter blade has 80 tooth the steel weighs 364 grams and is relatively robust with a thickness of 1.77 millimeters it has a tooth offset of 3.38 millimeters and a metal hardness of 6. the still seem to do just as well as any of the other blades with the one-inch tree the renegade oregon and forester were definitely a little faster on the two inch brush the steel definitely wasn't as fast as the renegade oregon or forester cutting through the three inch brush the renegade oregon and forester all cut through the two inch brush in one second or less the steel took two seconds and the echo around eight seconds with a three and a half inch brush the forester did by far the best at only one second the oregon five seconds renegade seven still ten and echo around thirty seconds when clearing brush incidental contact with metal and rocks can quickly damage a blade up next we'll see how these blades hold up when they come in contact with a piece of galvanized metal pipe beginning with the blue cat blade the blue cat created a few sparks as it bounced off of the metal it experienced minor damage to the edge of the blade testing the renegade blade next about a fraction of a second in this test i realized that i should have used a much thicker piece of steel the carbide teeth on the renegade blade cut right through the steel pipe without a problem however the metal did cause minor damage to a couple of the renegade's teeth testing the euros next the euros left a few marks on the pipe and the pipe only caused minor damage to the very tips of the blades testing the oregon next the oregon cut about a third of the way through the pipe the pipe did cause minor damage to the blade and most of the teeth on the blade pressing the forester next the teeth on the forester are made of a much harder steel than most of the other blades and definitely harder than the steel pipe wow the forester took a big old chunk out of this pipe several of the teeth on the forester experienced damage testing the echo next there were minor abrasions on the pipe and unfortunately the pipe caused quite a bit of duling to all of the teeth on the echo blade testing the husqvarna next the husqvarna can definitely handle direct impact with metal after beating up the pipe the husk varna didn't experience any noticeable damage testing the steel next just like the echo blade unfortunately the pipe caused minor damage to all the teeth on a steel blade to avoid leaving stubble cutting brush off at ground level puts the blade at risk for hitting rock up next we'll see how much damage the blades experience when they come into contact with a cinder block testing the blue cat first the cinder block definitely caused a lot more wear and tear on the blue cat blade than the metal pipe testing the renegade hybrid next the cinder block caused damage to several more carbide teeth on a renegade blade but most of the teeth still seem to be very sharp and in good condition testing the euros next the euros experienced quite a bit more damage to the leading edge of all six blades testing the oregon next the damage to the oregon blade was pretty consistent there was pretty significant damage to all the teeth on the blade it definitely didn't seem to hold up as well as the renegade testing the forester next the forester experienced quite a bit of damage to several teeth but some of the teeth are still in pretty good condition testing the echo next just like the oregon the echo experienced quite a bit of damage to all of the teeth on the blade it definitely didn't hold up as well as the renegade or the forester testing the husqvarna next [Music] the husqvarna is definitely built to last other than very minor abrasions to the end of the blade the husqvarna looks as good as new testing this steel blade next damage to the steel is very similar to the damage to the echo all of the teeth experience pretty significant damage in the final test we'll use the damaged blades once again on the same small trees to see how they perform the renegade originally cut through the two-inch tree in under a second the damaged blade was quite a bit slower at just over four seconds the damage caused by the metal pole and the center block really slowed down the oregon as it needed just over eight seconds the forester was the fastest blade before the damage but the damaged forester took seven seconds to cut through the tree the echo blade was much slower than the competition before the damage and remained the slowest yet at 22 seconds it only took the undamaged steel blade two seconds to cut through the two inch tree but the damaged blade took 11 seconds the metal pole in the concrete block caused a lot of damage to the blades but the renegade hybrid came in on top at 4 seconds the forster 7 oregon 8 still 11 and echo 22. the blue bar represents the hardness of the teeth on the blades and the orange bar represents the number of seconds it took for the damaged blades to cut through the two-inch brush the blades with teeth constructed of harder materials including the renegade and forester outperform the oregon steel and echo which were made of softer metal the renegade hybrid is a very good value at just 15 dollars the biggest drawback is once those carbide teeth are used up the blade becomes worthless on the other hand the forester can still be sharpened and it's a very good blade now when it comes to a grass blade the husqvarna is going to be hard to beat that blade is extremely durable all my video ideas including this one are viewer recommended so if you have a video idea i hope you'll take time to leave a comment i read and reply to as many comments as possible thanks so much for watching the video please take care and look forward to next time
