of las vegas nevada he weighed in at 167 and one quarter pounds with a record of 18 wins and two losses he has 14 wins coming by way of knockout tonight looking for revenge in his second attempted fighting out of the blue corner wearing red trunks with gold trim hailing from phoenix arizona he weighed in at already 167 pounds he is undefeated in his campaign to the ring with a record of 19 wins no losses with 17 wins coming by way of knockout tonight in the first defense of his world title ladies and gentlemen here is one of the young stars of boxing today who is not only boxing's youngest here we go david benavidez and the red ronald gabriel in the white trunks welcome everybody in romania watching this fight all my friends at bucharest welcome you i'm glad that you can be with here and the colonel bob sheridan then we welcome our entire crowd around the world here for this fight gabriel is decked out in the white trunks with the gold trim benavidez in the red with gold is a little bit taller he's got about an inch on gabriel the real tries to work downstairs nothing real strong downstairs and he just loads up that right hand and cracks [Music] [Applause] up [Applause] these are two really nice guys uh you saw benavidez with his throat slashing at the weigh-in but yeah try to drum up some activity and he's one of the bright young stars coming up is david red flag benavidez is landing some nice shots now he had the right hand decently gabriel comes in you see the footwork of benavidez is able to bounce back out benavidez got the red and black sheen black socks is loading up the right hand full of confidence very confident look at the face he feels a lot better in this fight than he did for the championship fight he's punch running him with the right hand look at his hand speed you saw there but nothing that did any damage to metavedas benavidez is kind of dictating when they engage trying to work into the body is gabriel shots and so in the back nice stiff jab benefits got a great jab and he has a great uppercut taps him on the chest decent body shot that time by gabriel slinging right hand by the champion touches him up with the left hand [Applause] closing seconds now this is the first round to fight a very very good round for the champion david benavidez as the bell ending round one the official judges robert hoyle from nevada glenn feldman from connecticut and julie letterman from new york scored that 10-9 in favor of benavidez [Music] was able to stop ray robinson in the seventh round by a tko in their fight coming up after this one is the main event of the evening and brandon don't reach for him hands up all right that's all you got to do he's trying to steal around nice and relaxed keep that jab published two three from the mandalay bay i'm the colonel bob sheridan our principal's in there ronald gabriel he's in the white with the gold trimming in the red the young champion david benavidez this is a rematch first round was a split decision win for benavidez so gabriel thinks he was dropped in that fight now that he's had the full eight weeks to train for this he feels like he's strong he's certainly a great physical shape they weighed in out of the limit both who went to veto 167 gabriel was 167 in a quarter avidis was able to do this in the first round he's opening up a little bit more here in round number two these are hard punches he sits down on his punches stiff jab real stiff jab and it's right on the nose of gabriel [Applause] not hard shots by ronald gabriel [Music] hard right hand two really good boxes remember benavidez is only 21. gabriel is 31 so he has you know more experience of age but on the other hand gabriel is a very gifted athlete but benavidez at his age is up soon both have identical reach 74 so there's no advantage there in spite of the fact it looks like benavidez has a longer reach because he dips his shoulder and more a little squared up sometimes is gabriel see that jab in the face benavidez has the ability to switch and it's working for him he's just flat out boxing this guy right now he's gabriel come in whatever gabriel has come in it's been slinging to the side of the body maybe he feels like he can soften up benavidez from down the line because remember he actually not going to beat us down in the last round of the first fight stiff jab right in the face right in the face again usually when he doubles he throws the right hand behind it like he did that time very fast hands closing seconds of this round ends round number two benavidez out box to begin main event uh is a wbc welterweight elimination about this is danny garcia hitting the bags with his dad angel garcia who trains danny one of the nice really nice kids in boxing the nickname is swift smith garcia he's a prohibitive favorite against brandon rios rios says that he's now dedicated again he's got the fire back to fight again so this might be a better fight than a lot of people think and it might be a more dangerous fight than danny garcia thinks but danny's a very very gifted athlete at 29 years of age he's a great one and at stake for them is a shot at errol spence jr or the winner of the jeff warren terence robert fight they're just coming up and here we go back live round number three here at the mandalay bay event center in las vegas nevada a lot of fighters in attendance tonight mikey garcia is here and joseph parker the heavyweight champion of the world he's got his big fight coming up with anthony joshua [Applause] benavidez kind of having his way right [Applause] now you wonder how long gabriel can take these cuts at benevides and he gets right between the gloves almost every time and his jab is technically perfect he's not throwing off the front foot he's getting off the back foot getting plenty of power with his jab so you have his feet him fairly close together that gives him the leverage with that left jab and also he turns around with that right hand and caught him on the ear terrific job out of boxing got real i know that's not what you want to hear in romania but that's what's going on may very proud of him [Applause] finally lands something downstairs does gabriel but he's giving away the first two minutes of the round left hook that jab in the face on gabriel gabriel comes in and tries to work downstairs russell morris says keep the hands up to gabriel [Applause] just really letting some nice shots gavril he's been up around the hips all right got that chin tucked but he's still getting punched out into that jab and not gonna he just goes down stands with the jab upstairs with the jab he's gonna look at his eyes get him up right now you're in my office he's gonna wick it up because he decides to troll [Applause] i mean this enemy is just really unboxing [Music] marmalade so far [Applause] i get a 30-27 given the first three rounds to benavidez listen for stopping by backing them up with that jab don't go just roll roll listen you gotta double and triple your jab stop going one jab okay [Applause] hold on hold on hold on look at this this is action of benavidez earlier in the third round really good stuff uppercuts right hand up and taking the back of the glove but here we come back live now penevenis in the red ronald gabriel in the white this is round number four in the colonel bob sheridan i'm glad wherever you're watching around the world that you can be with us and our world telecast here from las vegas nevada it's cool in the desert this time of the year but it's perfect for the fighters oh big shot right hand left hook and benavidez can finish he hurt gabriel with that combination watch the amount of punches that this kid will throw down he's downstairs in the body he's very patient he's hurting him with body shots a lot of time left stop gabriel hangs on he's doing exactly what he has to do to try to survive his way through this round did everything but knock him down and that's the conditioning i've got real the benefit is caught up with two big shots in between that he landed the uppercut he's got real hanging on to try to get the cobwebs out of his head right now a lot of patience by the youngster benevita a lot of [Applause] [Music] [Applause] is accurate it's up camille got a few jabs through gabriel a lot of credit for not going down and not letting the swarming punches of benavidez take him down [Music] now we're starting to see more of it those are hard uppercuts too you get the head bouncing back up three times gabriel is not going to be able to take this kind of punishment for many more rounds anyway because i mean benavidez is really out boxing him in every round and everything in the future throws his heart he wouldn't gabriel gets through it doesn't have the zip on it than benavidez a lot of times you think that gabriel is hitting gonna be this and i can tell you from being up here that he's rolling with a lot of punches although there was a right hand on the left uppercut again and left again by the right here hard right hand by benavidez we're out of time here now in round number four that round really should be scored 10-8 i'm not going to score 10-8 because i don't think the judges will do it without the knockdown but that was a big round and certainly a more significant round for benavidez that were rounds number one two and three take his best shot he ain't got nothing else all right i need them hands up all right i need those hands up right watch this this is from early in the round with about 15 seconds if it hadn't been for the conditioning of gabriel he would have gone down and different angles same thing see that uppercut is the one that got him in trouble and then the left hand right behind him and then he realizes he's hurt him and he comes flying after him again and touches him up look at this i'm gonna go oh man that's the one i've been looking for throughout the fight he started throwing it back to back right hand uppercut left hand uppercut here we go round five now mandalay bay gabriel seems like he's uh revamped he did a good job on him in between rounds that evil stop was asking from the double and triple his jab and said he walks into a straight left-hand jab by the man in red the champion david benavidez benavide is showing his class in this fight over uh ronald and gabriel gabriel is you know working so hard he'd like to see him be doing better and more effective and when you see the shots that gabriel is trying to absorb that perspiration and water and sweat just flies off with every shot that benavidez lands because they're not conscious and they've been hard punches from the get-go venovitas also has that look in his face you know as you see gabriel land a little bit here now neither fighter has been down but genevieve has certainly planted the and as i mentioned that fourth round could have been scored in 10-8 rounds gabriel's got a black guy underneath his right eye that's swelling too bad when he's pumped up they see some blood [Music] [Applause] i can't tell you exactly where it is it's by the right eye of gabriel but i can't tell you where it is we're trying to see him between rounds exactly slinging left hand gonna beat us with the uppercut and right hand enemies and fred got real and white and it's all benavidez so far and still has not been able to knock over ronaldo got real [Applause] [Applause] there that was a much better round for gabriel but i don't know if you can give him [Music] [Music] it was the best round of the fight for him [Music] gabriel very good shot and that was one of the reasons why i gave gabriel that round but during the course around gabriel was cut over the right eye it appears so we moved to round number six gabriella the white trunks had his best round of the fight in the last round i gave it to him from the judging role because during the course of that round he was cut over [Music] downstairs gabriel trying to set up and put some power shots on benavidez remember cabrillo was able to drop better meters in the last fight the first fight that they in which benavidez zeked out a split decision win for the world title at age 20. his benefit is back to having it his way again he's odd punches again by benavidez russell mora hasn't had to do too much to separate these guys they just swinging away lands a decent body shot good jabs but no damage being done and you see benavidez you know he's just playing shots doing more damage to gabriel and gabriella's doling out the road very tough great physical condition here to take the punishment that he took back in that third round i know it was the fourth round that he all been dropped again getting beat to the punch by the champion the champion in the red trunks for the golden trail see how hard gabriel is working like to my left uppercut again landed by benavidez david benavidez again but he's not damaging benavidez and that's the problem in the fight the difference no way that gavriel could have worked any harder but he didn't land anything significant in the round so i got to give that round to benavidez i'm going to score at 59.55 show you some combinations coming up now uh david benavidez what's this left right combination boom and that might have been the one that opened that eye up again two lefts right hand right on the chin this kid is some slick boxer i'll tell you coming up to round seven this is scheduled for 12. mandalay bay event center las vegas nevada in the white trunks ronald got real ranked number five in the wbc taking on david benovita's remaining champ last time they thought it was a split decision but the youngster benavidez won the wbc 168 pound super middleweight championship gabriel fought so well certainly a rematch was in order especially when he thought he won the fight and here we are in the seventh round now and i haven't scored 59-55 in favor of benavidez i've given gabriel only the one round and then there was that fourth round where gabriel was in a heap of trouble early in the round and benavidez was unable to put him down the round that was as i mentioned in a couple of games the great conditioning of ronald gabriel here in the second half of the fight now let's see if gabriel can put anything together to try and slow down the assault of the youngster benavidez and the champion see you can't do any better than that jab jab jab jab and again the difference is that the snap of the punch of benavidez is so much more easy to see it you can't tell it on television but when you hear and you can hear the punches you get you can just feel that the punches of benavidez and again gabriel having a decent round in round number seven benavidez you see a little squared up right now usually when he squares up you're going to see a right-hand lead coming now [Applause] [Music] benavidez is a regular basis another good combination of punches that time by gabriel let's look closer around again [Applause] gabriel is right in this round and he doesn't want better viewers to steal him because gabriel needs it let's get the look in the face and benavidez has so much confidence in his eyes hanging that left hand down gabriel needs to throw the right one that hands down like that throw the right but benefit is so quick [Applause] get real nice [Applause] [Music] [Applause] i think that gabriel outworked benavidez in that round i'm going to give him that round [Applause] [Music] good round good round sit down we showed you the combination of punches in the sixth round he's dead through his throat now let's see what we have for combination power comes in that all right he's dead i need your hand um i need your hands up three jabs now watch kev real here taking on the glove then he gets his uh left hand throwing a solid right hand so nice combination by gabriel and that's just one of the reasons why i gave that seventh round to gabriel i still haven't scored 68.65 so there's plenty of time we get eight nine 10 11 and 12 so gabriel can get right back in this if he continues to box obviously from the hard punches that benavidez landed early this fight might be on its way to being a lot closer than what it looked like three or four rounds gabriel seems to have a new second wind and a confidence and benavidez we'll see with that jab right hand enforcing the pace is gabriel he keeps coming forward now those punches all missed by benavidez so the position for gabriel is bad is better i shouldn't say uppercut land [Applause] one problem in the scoring in the fight is that venomita's punches seem to be much cleaner than uh gabriel's and as he said that gabriel got a right hand right through the middle holding up shots oh there's that uppercut again by benavidez trying to crawl back into this fight but how many of those big uppercuts can you absorb [Applause] venomveda seems to be in cruise control right now oh gavriel pushes the fight the corner of gabriel thinks that benavidez is [Applause] but he said he didn't want to do it as much in this fight but he's just sitting on the ropes right now russell moore tells boy this is a good stuff for gabriel right now odd shot left by two three four good punches by benavidez now hard body shot the difference in this fight is the crispness of the punches of benavidez there's so much fun some of these mouthpieces out i think it's gabriel's mouthpieces out when the action stops in second russell moore will well he'll let the round finish now closing seconds of round number eight [Applause] suck it up all right um let me go some water let's go let's go that's uh eighth round i think the judges will be split up and so i'll put it on my scorecard uh 10 10. i know the judges will score 10-10 but when they haven't take a look at the replay here let's go to work baby but again the heavier punches if i was leaning one way or the other i probably leaned towards benavidez because of these this doesn't really show but that left uppercut was a solid shot and the right hand behind it hold on hold on all right we moved to the ninth round 9 10 11 and 12 to go it's championship time gabriel working very very hard and has worked out throughout the course of this fight there's a stiff jab again you see gabriel throws four or five punches then all of a sudden one big shot is landed by benavidez and that's going to be the judge's determination how they're going to score rounds like this i've given most of the benavidez but the last three out of four rounds i thought that gabriel was in the fight but his benavidez just really doing a nice job again stiff jab but if he just seems like he's got a second win right now because he's back up on his thumbs digging hard to the body throwing uh punches and bunches again that was a little uh south of the border but uh very slick and then he did it on the far side of russell mora now the face of uh gabriel is starting to bust up a bit i think he's got a bloody nose maybe you're broken look at that jab he's right through maura is saying to ronald gabriel you better show me something because he's taking an awful lot of punches now in this round his nose is flattened out like he might have a broken nose and that knows the pain that's involved with that the fighters just fight through that sort of thing so the blood trickles from the nose he's cut by the eye you know an awful lot of punches here if gabriel doesn't show something he's given uh russell moore an opportunity to stop this fight because he's taken an awful lot of punches in this round this is a big round for benavidez like he got a second win and he's really punished gabriel in this round cabrillo's in such great shape and he's trying to muscle through it but by golly he took a lot of punishment in the first two minutes of this round digging the body back upstairs hard right hand uppercut benavide is really punishing him in this round blood coming from the nose coming from the eye stiff jab again gabriel kind of falls forward reveal this game as he is that's all conditioning not tough of these fighters punishment that he's taken this round 15 seconds to go now in this round gabriel's face is a mess [Applause] and avidas continues to found him nice step around that time by gabriel but not able to get anything off that's the end of the ninth round that was a terrific round for benavidez that in itself could be a 10-8 round but i don't think it will be scored that way ronald throw that overhand right around the corner right to the head this is the 10th round he's dead tight come on all right i need that right hand around the top on the top okay and we got him all right there now you got to ronnie come on dude come on you can get him you got to throw big shots big over here look at this stuff he's got it he's got it bob right here straight jab right hand again what a combination this is and these are powerful shots okay you got to show me something i got it he's fine okay russell moore came in and said they're mom got real you got to show me something and i'm going to stop this fight eddie mustafa mohammed says he's all right he's all right eddie should know he was in enough wars we go to the 10th round gabriel is behind in the fight the question is how much he's in the white trunks the champion the youngster 21 years old seems to have a second win now i gave gabriel the seventh round in the fifth round eighth round i thought the judges would be split on but you could have given it to benavidez as well benavidez had a strong ninth round gabriel comes forward trying to land something big and hard just work the body hard at benavidez and except for one round in the eighth round where benefit is slowed down just a bit benavidez seems to have again that second win that he had in the ninth round we're in round number 10. this is scheduled for 12 and it appears that he's going to go the full 12. if it continues like this both these guys are in magnificent shape [Applause] credit to my pal eddie mustafa mohammed forgetting gabriel so ready to fight but benavidez has so much skill he's got real trying to turn this into a round for himself again every time gabriel does something right back comes benavidez david is some kind of fighter you're going to hear a lot of him this is a good division too you get benavidez holds his wbc title george groves has the wba from the uk caleb truax is the ibf champ and alberto ramirez from mexico is the wbo champ so this is a good division hard right hands again we showed you the highlight uh of the last fight that actually gabriel was able to knock benavidez down in the 12th round but in that fight i i mentioned that benavidez suffered from the flu about a week before the fight and also in that fight gabriel only had about four weeks to train he's had the full training camp but he's taken so much punishment in this fight and there's no quitting gabriel he is some kind of fighter he is a professional boxer he's cut over the eye in the fifth round the fourth round he was almost knocked down the ropes held him up and gavriel had a a decent fifth round a decent seventh round eighth round i thought the judges would be split on and benavidez had a real solid ninth round and a decent tenth run i've got it scored 98.93 so in the last two rounds uh according to my score sheet ronald gabriel would have to knock out or at least knock down benavidez a couple of times to get back into this fight and at this stage benavidez looks very strong remember the first fight was a split decision doctor being called up by the referee russell moore to have a look at the eyes of uh ronald gabriel stay right here stay right here i want you to look i'm going to come out of the corner over there the round has started and immediately time is called but russell moore has asked the ringside position to have a look at the eye okay all right thank you doc russell says thank you doctor and we're gonna keep this thing going [Applause] so round number 11 continues benavidez now knows that he's got the eyes of gabriel having a problem and a lot of that has to do with the amount of punches that he's landed the accumulation of bunches through the course of this fight kavila actually seems to have a second wind and that he's fainting and moving the gloves up and down sharp with his jabs to the body back up says his kids in tremendous physical condition when you can see the amount of punches that he's had to absorb in this fight benavidez has got so much skill and youth in his favor 21 to 31 years of age but 31 is sort of in last of the prime of prize fighters gabriel is 18-2 and hasn't been beat up much but the first fight they had was a war just like this one it's only been a couple of maybe three rounds have been really difficult to score in this fight so there shouldn't be any controversy in terms of the scoring in this fight because the harder punches have been landed throughout the fight off the hands of benavidez [Applause] is kind of cruising through this 11th round gabriel working hard the corner of uh gabriel thinks that uh benavidez is very tired right now got real to his favor i i gotta say he has never shown any signs of really being tired at all he's in such great physical condition for this fight and he's forcing the fight in this round and benavidez is just sort of cruising through but his pot shots you know the difference throughout the course he lands five or six or seven hard punches in every round and all of this stuff that gabriel is doing right now is negated by the hard punches [Applause] the benavidez fans this is an amateur boxing where you just total up a bunch of uh punches on the on what they call punch stats professional boxing it doesn't mean as much as it means to see these significant high shots bouncing up on his toes now is benavidez now maybe he's got a second win with 30 seconds ago but as far as i've been saying gabriel has stolen this or taking this 11th round he's out worked gonna meet us in this round again benavidez is atlanta probably more significant blows high body shot right there oh look at this right at the end of the round [Applause] boy that makes it a hard round to score and i gotta rock back and give it to benavidez based on hard punches at the end of the round i was all set to give that round to gabriel [Applause] 108 102 going to the 12th round so we'll wait and see how the judges have it and that would be in favor of dead uh david benavidez jose benavidez senior now watch this i'm leaning at the end of this uh uh 11th round i'm leaning towards one of the giving the round to ronald gavilan his hustle and then watch what happens at the very end one stiff two three and he just busts him up and punishes him in the last 10 or 15 seconds of the round and i ended up switching over to benavidez in that round so here we go with the 12th and final round [Applause] is that stiff jab again by benavidez gabriel right in front of him and get real work very hard but look it again stiff jab that's a real stiff jab blood coming from the nose and the eyes and get real bob wears done a nice job keeping gabriel in this fight and you know the conditioning have really been sensational for the amount of punishment that he's taken in this fight his space is busted up benavidez is doing a nice job boxing from the outside gabriel is trying to force him to fight on the inside gabriel with the exception of justin two or three times during the course of the fight he likes to fight off the ropes but he hasn't had to do it too much tonight [Applause] then avidas has got plenty plenty left for this final round couple of minutes left look at these jabs still pinpoint anchors and kevin working as hard as he can you want to you want to be able to give more rounds to gabriel because of the way he works so hard but you gotta look at the ability of benavidez david's a terrific fighter and i already mentioned the two terrific kids look at the way gabriel has worked and continues to work he couldn't have been in better shape for this fight and considering the amount of punishment that is absorbed throughout the fight it's remarkable neither fighter has been done gabriel was cut over the right eye back in the fifth round and then later on the nose became a problem in the fight and evidence now with about a minute to go just pot shotting him and apparently we'll cruise on the victory and retain his title although they've been a few maybe three really close rounds in this fight but i don't think it might score sheet that would change the way i am look at this gabriel battling to the final 40 seconds of this fight this has been some boxing match i'll tell you slinging right hand by gabriel gabriel right in the mix of this thing right to the end and this is the way rounds have been going now the champ seems a little bit exhausted but he's got to finish the last 20 seconds strong there was at this stage in the first fight that benavidez was knocked down but benavidez has got plenty left in his legs closing seconds now this has been a really really good boxing match [Applause] there it is good finishing round for gabriel but i don't think it's enough [Applause] i scored at 118 111 in favor of benavidez but uh i i can't give this guy who looks like he's been in a war looks like he's got a broken nose he's cut around the eyes and this kid virtually unmarked you beat the hell out of that time there'll be no split decision this time [Applause] benavidez really beat him up this time alvarez in the corner are thrilled with what they've seen from david benavidez robert hoyle from nevada glenn feldman from connecticut and julie letterman from new york are the official judges of this fight and we'll have the official announcement uh momentarily of who has won this fight david benavidez he's something else he did in fact stay off the ropes a lot and look at the combinations by benavidez oh nice uppercut left hand that was back in the second round of the fight uh and then the action from the fourth round when they actually could have got a 10-8 round but he couldn't put him away and all of that happened in the early going in that fourth round and throughout the course of the fight benavidez was able to land power shots like this throughout the fight [Applause] the conditioning for gabriel made it in every round of this fight very interesting but the score on my sheet anyway 118-111 just a little lopsided julie letterman might have a little bit closer but we'll see i've got a unanimous decision and as far as my mind is concerned by david benavidez i thought he beat him up his jimmy leonard after 12 rounds of action we go to the score judge of ringside julie letterman scores about 119 to 109. judges glenn feldman and robert hoyle both scored it was uh not close at all throwing my 118 111 and we're all in agreement david benavidez had tremendous victory and one-sided victory over a very game but not up to the job ronald gabriel originally from romania so for you romanian fans i'm sorry but for you mexican fans and the fans of david benavidez the kid with the nickname red flag had a tremendous unanimous decision victory tonight there was no question about it benavidez was a superior fighter tonight terrific stuff that puts him in line in a fight maybe george groves or caleb truax will give beth over a mirror congratulations these were 24 rounds of really a war but how did you manage in this rematch to really take control of this fight from the beginning you know i knew he was going to come in aggressive like i said before you know he's a one-trick type of pony he don't know how to do nothing else but pressure so you know i use that to my advantage you know jab boxed them all day when i seen the opening i took it you know i didn't i didn't knock him out you know but he said he's a tough son of a gun he is a tough son of a gun and there still seems to be a little bad blood are you still annoyed and antagonized i don't really don't care i mean i have the belt around my waist and look at his face and look at mine let's take a look at your hand because your right hand is tremendously that's your left hand but show them your right hand here too if you open up that and you can see this right here did you stop using it maybe in the last few rounds because of this yeah uh the you know the both the hands hurt but i couldn't stop using both both hands so you know i had that like i said i had that words mentality i'm gonna keep pushing and that's exactly what i did you're the youngest champion in boxing yet you seem so poised and composed what did you learn through this fight and have you managed to maintain that composure at such a young age um you know just learning uh remembering my training in the gym
