today we're gonna be taking a look at a Behringer TM 300 tube amp modeler pedal hey everyone welcome to the channel my name is Taylor and if you're new here I do all sorts of guitar related stuff here on my channel if you like this kind of content make sure to subscribe and click the bell notification icon so you get notified about all of my future uploads and if you could take a second and hit the like button YouTube's algorithm really likes that and it helps push my videos further today I'm gonna be revisiting the behringer TM 300 tube amp modeler puff the behringer TM 300 is a tube amp modeling pedal it has a level a low a high and a drive knob it has a mic switch which changes the EQ curve and simulates the different placements of an actual microphone options are classic Center and off access there's a mod switch which increases the saturation in your gain staging and has the options of clean high gain and hot and then there's the amp switch which changes between three different classic amplifiers you have the tweed the BRIT and the California models I don't know exactly what models of an't these are emulating but if I had to guess the tweed is most likely a Fender Twin Reverb or something like that the BRIT is probably a marshall plexi or jcm800 and the california is most likely a mesa boogie amp probably a dual rectifier if any of you know what different amps this pedal is emulating I'd really like to know let me know in the comments below if you've been watching my channel for a while you know that I did a video on this pedal a while back and it was really bad at the time I had a misunderstanding of the way the pedal functioned you see up here there's a mic position switch and originally when I reviewed the pedal I thought that this meant that there was speaker emulation happening inside of the pebble there's not there's not any speaker emulation happening in this pub what this mic position switch is is more of like an EQ curve that affects the tone of the pedal so this pedal is really more suited for someone who's doing their - modeling on a pedal board or something like that and then running it into like a power amp and a cabinet or the effects return on an amp something like that so ever since I made that first video I've been really wanting to remake the video and do a good one I was basically just recording the direct out from this pedal without any speaker emulation going on so it sounded pretty bad so the way that I'm gonna do it this time is I'm actually gonna run this pedal into Reaper and I'm going to add an IR in Reaper and monitor with that and really what that's doing is just saving me the hassle of hooking up a cabinet and a power amplifier and having to mic it up so yeah that's how we're gonna be hooking this thing up and demoing it all right let's just get over to the demo and see what this thing sounds like so I have the TM 300 hooked up here and let me just explain signal chain that I have going on I'm using this Ltd Viper it's a 256 you know like the vintage sort of relic looking Viper and it's got a Seymour Duncan invader in the bridge and it's just got a stock pickup in the neck and that is going straight into the TM 300 over here and then the TM 300 is going into my Apollo twin duo USB interface everything's going into Reaper and I'm adding the IR in the effects section on the track and Reaper and I'm using that to monitor myself right now I should also mention that the impulse response that I'm using is from sea cow cabs and it's from the signature packs it's the Jim root orange 4 by 12 with an sm57 okay so here's just the clean unprocessed signal of the guitar [Music] okay and let's just turn this thing on [Music] [Music] okay so that's the tweed amp let's just start dialing us in a little bit here [Music] [Applause] [Music] I believe the tweed model is replicating a Fender amp I could be totally wrong on that I know that with these older classic sounding hams one of the tricks is just to dial out most of the bass and then dial up the mids and the highs since I don't have a separate mid and high knob I'm just going to turn up the highs here [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so we're gonna switch from the classic to the center now [Music] [Applause] and then let's do the off-center [Music] now the next section is the mod section let's dial up the drive and see what that sounds like first and then we'll mess with each of the different mod settings so [Music] so it actually has a pretty decent amount of dynamic range going on there when I back off the picking it does tend to clean up a little bit and when I pick harder it tends to saturate a little bit more but it's not really a true edge of breakup sort of tone let's dial it all the way up [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay doesn't sound bad let's start messing with these mods I'm just gonna put the drive back in the middle here's the drive in the middle again just for reference and then let's turn the mod on as a high gain mod [Applause] [Applause] [Music] let's go to the hot setting here [Applause] turn the drive up a little and see what that does so that's really saturated for tweed amp I mean I'm not really super familiar with those type of amplifiers but it seems like there's a lot of saturation going on there so let's switch over to the Britt amp here and I'm gonna reset everything to 50% [Music] try dialing back the drive here and [Music] [Music] drive back up style drive back to 50 and we're gonna turn on the high-gain mod okay let's try the last one here the hot mod [Applause] [Music] let's hear what the different microphones sound like on this amp so classic the center [Music] and then let's go with the off-axis let's move on to the Calif amp so here's what the amp sounds like with everything at noon dial it in a little bit [Music] [Music] [Music] let's try these different mods out I'm going to dial back the gain and we'll turn that up to the high gain mod let's go with the hot setting [Music] let's turn the drive all the way up and just okay so there's a lot of Drive there a lot of saturation that can be had I'm gonna put this back on classic and we'll put the drive about there which gives which is still plenty of gain for even me as a metal guitar player so now let's listen to the different microphone positions with this amp so here's the classic Center [Music] off-axis okay the off access doesn't sound very good it's really muddy I really like that center position actually and I'm just gonna tile up the base a little bit and tie back the highs [Music] [Music] so what do you guys think about the TM 300 is it worth the $35 price point do you think it's a good entry into the world of ant modeling well let me know your thoughts in the comments below I was really surprised when I plugged in and monitored this through an IR I think it actually sounds really good especially considering it's only $35 in my opinion on this pedal now is that this is probably the lowest point of entry for anyone who is looking for a hardware amp modeling solution I mean I can't think of one that's cheaper than this granted you're not getting built in IRS but if you're looking for a hardware solution you're most likely looking to use it through an amplifier anyways and I think this is a really good way to diversify your tone and I think it makes a really good addition to a pedal board alright guys that's it for me if you haven't already please make sure to like this video and consider subscribing and I'll see you in the next one bye
