one of the special edition as the at the racist LED Stock Show we've come over to Ireland to visit the world leaving stuff we're behind the scenes at kuma a place that has produced countless group and grade one winners and at home of super sire Galilean today Kumal stud is generally acknowledged to be the world's leading thoroughbred race horse breeding operation situated in the heart of the golden Vale on some of Ireland's finest limestone lands Kumal provides the perfect environment for breeding and raising thoroughbreds the first son of Northern Dancer Costanzo kumal would be my guest he became champion sire in 1982 and lourdes kumar onto the world stage in the process the next though was saddle as well he went on to be one of the most influential and famous talents of all time he was champion sire for 13 consecutive years produced over 70 group and grade one winner he performed all around the world on the biggest stage but of all those superstars arguably his most famous offspring is the now champion sire Galileo who stands here at Kumal and is regarded as the leading fire of his generation finding riding on multiple civic-minded wins revelry a try VAR c 0 c rate in there was a nice D gave a magnificent victory it's any good fellow indicators for Belle étoile failure with at the age of 19 Galileo is still very much in the prime of his styling career but cool more teens make sure that they have Stalin's killing through to produce champions well into the future this year they have two new Cylons on the roster and one of them is the son of the mice Galileo the Gerson [Music] as always coming here and because these are all heartstrings chain about going by Aidan O'Brien but unfortunately had colic surgery after he won the Suffolk stakes in late July so we had to retire my bed earlier than planned and was really fair to Guam with him so look we're very excited to have him here he is very much a cool more horse he's by Galileo fans in cool more he's out of it in a dancer mayor who stood in Coonoor he have a filly with Chin's who we bought his yearling and David Watchmen train and she won a very good to road race of tecora he's very much a heart that we bred we liked and he was always coming here and the general consensus would be or seemingly be that we probably didn't see all of what we could have seen returned on the track because his career was cut short basically yeah he was cut short like the French guineas which he won by five lens which is a long way to win the classic by but that was only the third race of his life and then he's a little bit unlucky at Royal Ascot in the st. James's Palace again it was only the fourth race his life was first time weak on right-handers first time we come around the bend right-handed as well so you know he was very much on a learning curve and there's plenty of horses in his pedigree who did much better I got older so it was every reason to believe that this horse is only only only starting and I look you know we were only friggin the mouse he he was probably a much better horse on fires ground like his best form was probably his last one in the six takes which is very good very fast crowd when did he arrive here at the start and what sort of been the process with him I find it really interesting the whole getting evolved from being a racehorse to being stallion is quite a transformation that happens over time well he went to Federer coin for surgery he had colic surging at have surgery so he came here from the clinic and we obviously does a period of recuperation and so the guys here are very good and and is slowly and surely build him back up again and the Okanagan there today he considers there's little or no evidence that he ever had colic surgery he looks fantastic and like his father Galileo he's got terrific temperament you know it's in CA trays in the Galileo line but they're such good temperament and it helps them to be such good race horses and as you can see he said here he very straightforward hospitalizing with and you're the next station is covering Maris was either we've already tested them at a time and it comes very naturally to him you know so he's very straightforward and he's got a good book of marriage because he's gonna cover a good book and bring a lot of her own medicine because we like to counsel us and you got a good selection mares from the Irish English French and international breeders so the new phase of his career and he's mostly the horse we would be very excitable and do you feel that for a horse like the Gurkha who obviously showed plenty of speed but in his breeding has stamina as well is he a horse that can really be very popular to a wide variety of breeders or which which sort of breeders advance do you think he will get him sued a lot of Merit you know he's obviously he's got speed but just famine on this pedigree - you know that's the perfect balance you know if it's just all speed you know and they don't they don't have the same usage and limit system you know like there's very few Groupon races has less than a mile and there's a lot of races north a mile so so the more races that over to silence progenies better chance he hasn't been a very good sir like the classic races are two guineas the two guineas for calls and fellies therapy the oaks and the saint language so the horse is just speed he's not going to have money featuring those operations you know we're going to have them like we've Galileo here who's probably with the best talent in the world at the moment I'll be the best time we've ever had and we're lucky we've we've to Derby winners here by Galileo we've got Australian of the world I'm with two guineas winners here by Galileo we've got which are Glen Eagles and the corker so what we're lucky to have them and we've got him Churchill in the pipeline who's just been announced as champion to Europe in Europe so we're sitting here in the legacy of cool more the legacy gallery and we would see these horses coming along as the legacy you know these are the horses we're hoping will provide the future stars invalid oil and the future started stood when Galileo who's 19 know when he when he gets and that you were totally there is no doubting who the star of the show is here at Google Galileo's produced classic and Groupon winners in abundance has taught the leading sizable for the last seven years and some would say that his offspring are still getting better but what is it like to look after one the world's best Allen no one knows this genuine suitors are better than the staff here at Kumar he had the great height is a very easy horse to do anything with his temperaments it's so quite you know he takes everything in destroyed so it makes our job very easy and do you think that he kind of knows he's a star he gets a lot of extra attention but he definitely gets the extra attention so I'm sure he does in his own mind he thinks is a star for sure yeah and I mean 19 years old now and still looking at literally a million dollars you must be very proud of the way he looked at your care that's got him here I suppose well he's been a very healthy heart he has we know one health care in his right and that was this you know and after that he's been very healthy heart he does everything that's needed after me eats up well he exercised as well and in the carving' said he's very quick to cover so he's easy on himself you know it's very very easy heart and although his kind of one joys in life is the things he really looks forward to is he a good eater or a good sir he's keen on his exercise he likes going to the coffee shed definitely this is number one and then he likes his food as early legs going for he's hungry as every day as well so he likes getting out the paddock for a curry as well Australia is one of the two gallon size at darboux and a subnet come up and it is an exciting time to him having seen his first crop of Falls goes through the ring last year but now it's a case of looking forward to them developing as yearling very popular salient be very well received by both domestic breeders in Ireland from England France Italy Germany and around the world you know he's got real international appeal high-profile selling to say by Galileo six year old now already amazingly with first yearlings which we'll look forward to seeing the sale this autumn settled in nicely to his new career standing the season at 35,000 euro yeah exciting stunning and do you find that this time of year for a stallion like Kim who's just right the very beginning of his breeding career is it is it nervous times now him with the sales later omnia yeah obviously we've got to see how the received the indications are good at the sales last last year at the December sales as we speak in November December at cats and golf's who sold those that went to auction will receive very well and hopefully the progress into nice yearlings you know I'm obviously seen by Galileo a top-class race in air Ouija board he's got a very exciting future we think and in terms of the book of mares that he's been sent so far you must be very pleased with that he seems have had some nice ones yet could not be happier you know equally top class breeders selecting this horse to use which is the most important part of setting a stallion on his future career so up here in the southern yard at Coomer is a who's who of equine talent and Tony is stallion manager and Tony just tell us at this time of year what is what's the sort of stallions routine for all of these guys well at this time of year obviously with the weather we don't leave them into the paddock so much and so they're all hand exercised each ours is different they get 15 to 20 minutes lunging each and then I walk for about 45 minutes in there we've a fully enclosed two-mile walk away in the woods they get walked in hand and then back to their stable they cover their cover their marriage then later on the year and they sort of at this stage getting just fit for that covering season yet we make sure that they're ready they're our athletes and it's a tough job so we make sure they're fit before they get there and stood here outside Galileo's box he's pretty relaxed in there to tell you nice munch what's it do you feel the pressure kind of looking after such at Quine talent you would if you didn't have the team you have behind you so it's the people that are here know the horses better than they know themselves so it's easy that way how many of you are there actually that there will be murmur and for the slide will have 12 staff here in the air yeah looking after 15 working horses and how long have you actually be in heaven it's works for two or more for 21 years so yeah long say you really do need a place inside out like back in my hand yeah and come on if you had to pick your favorite stallion standing here today who would it get it and have to go to Camelot just for his personality and character he's amazing what makes him so special what makes it so amazing just so he looks around the Jason looks at every other horse in the places he is the boss and that's how he sees himself yeah yeah and do any of the others have any sort of nice little funny characteristics some of them do as I say they're all different and they all have their their own little quirks in different ways but he'd be that the most yeah kind of the way just present himself like he owns everything and finally it must be really nice for you if you've been here 21 years they'll see these stallions here standing here today not too soon some of them when they were actually born and when they've gone off into training and wonder bees and the whole story yeah well I was lucky enough to have broken in Australian camel I heard yearlings one day one day right back to the farm and then to watch them race and they look after them back here so it's a privilege pretty special day very special very special and they're two very special artist so it's good did you know about that I mean obviously it's very hard to say that you knew that they were going to go on and do what they did but did you would they sort of stand out even then Camelot definitely was a standard back then even he still carried himself the same dam as he does now still he was always in charge and Australia was just such a quiet easy looking after horses he would just all he want to do is please he done anything he wanted them to do so he would he was always going to go on and do something you just so kind do whatever you want them to do [Music] another salad that is nice the roster here at cool home for 2017 may not be the most familiar of names with sub but prior to serve I made a big impression as a two-year-old in Australia and is an international edition with a big future it started you by electing in the Flyers and try to give over Ghanim with it dreamer storming up the bridle device like come down to finally hit the line provide held on one he's come from Australia and it was very much a trend at the moment to bring up to speed horses from Australia I guess your viewers are probably familiar with the star spangled diners and the choise years and take over target except you know those very Black Caviar that like this definitely and Australia seems to have some extremely fast horses and the racing program is geared towards that and he's a horse that was bred by a Sheikh Khalifa Al Maktoum and who keeps his medicine cool more Australia so the horses actually rare in our farm and he was one of the top tier O's in Australia he want to group on races at two he won the blue diamond over six forums at Caulfield which is in Melbourne and when the stars produce takes over seven forums at Randwick which is in Sydney so he's the first horse ever to do that double and at two years has never happened before so it is Shearwater really go to role he was and pedigree wise he is an international pedigree he's by street cry who stood in America but was was bred in Europe and then his damn line his overmare body pain here but the mayor is a half-sister to the gamma Kodiak an event and invisible spirit which be two of the best-known stands in Europe so Wylie raised in Australia he has a lot of European elements as pedigree he's very much English Irish elements and he also is American element and that's the way our world is developing and it's an international world now and horses move around a lot more than they used to now China horse club have bought into the hospital you know they were they won the biggest international buyers and racing people now so that they would be supporting him and Sheikh Khalifa has at least a dozen mayor's coming to the horse so he'll be support on this so that's that's the new world we're in and it's an exciting world and we're - like the avatars because he's an outcross pretty much and we've a lot of Sadler's Wells nightmares Galileo nightmares around here so he's obviously very interesting horse for them but also gives the Irish English breeders a chance to use a very high-class two year old from from the part of the world where to probably have the fastest or the most be reasonable and on that topic I mean this need to breathe the speed seems to be getting more and more popular at the moment was that the thinking behind bringing him up Paris face and partly apparently but again like most of these horses most of the good studies have an element of stamina and repetitively and he has substandard especially you know we just keep reading to be the spirits pdwhite end up with nothing you know and we've always had the balance here you know he's over the Indian Mara we had a lot of day in hell over here is like Danielle won a July cook or but he was a horse of the patrocle you know he's from the family of Northern Dancer so we feel it's very important to balance speed and stamina or not all into one or one or the other is its it we feel it's important and particularly is breeding for race and I you know which is the most important thing at the end the day is racing that's what it's all about you know so many races are our NASA at the shortest so we have to produce those horses for those races and there's huge prize money for those races and I think race will be very boring if we just said speed races like we want to go race how much six or seven Sprint's so I think people enjoy watching that the variety of distances and that's a great thing about English race and race racing but English and picture - such a variety of distances as the breeding industry the whole needs to produce horses for those races and will be foolish not to produce hospital it's not just the salience of the superstars here at Koval because of course they have superstar mares as well and we've been lucky to see a few of them this morning Kevin just tell us run us through exactly who we saw so far this morning yeah we've seen a couple of mares and foals firstly we saw 1,000 teams win a homecoming queen with her console by Galileo it was born on the 16th of January only 10 years 10 days old today and following her was lats traviata' who of course is the dev of seventh heaven with her cultural by Galileo also born on the 16th of January so two exciting souls as of very exciting brood met two totally different types though or what we saw in their different markings different stamps but both just you can already tell how classy they're going to be absolutely you know I'm the homecoming queen is a cheeky little chap if you will a little bit smaller than that Traviata stall at this stage equally we all remember homecoming coming Queen she's not a big man but you know there'll be lots of improvement in that soul and he's an exciting little chap and we were very lucky to see one of Gleneagles first falls on the ground yeah there have been a few that we've heard of Jimmy Murphy from rependa stud reports of a very good soul he had recently in the last week or so but from the terms of point of view here in cool more you've just seen the very first Thor by gallery Eagles born here born quite ironically is the first to fold immense early on the 16th of January as well at this time a Philly by Gyun Eagles out of ban Empire that's a very exciting fall from what we both saw in the paddock there loads of quality nice walk all the attributes you'd really wish to see at this stage so exciting times by an incredibly high classic Lyla James beyond the assistant manager Sarah Kumar we come down to one the mayor Barnes just tell us who first of all we've got walking behind us there first of all we've got Lillie Langtry in front with ready be behind Lily Langtry sit down of minding and should we visiting Galileo again this year and ready these never found and she'll also be visiting Galileo so it's safe to say some pretty impressive especially Noah definitely they're two of a kind all right there fantastic boomers to be around great temperament and privilege to work with such stock and obviously at this time of year you've got some meds that are folding and we'll get into covering season just tell our viewers what is the kind of receives the meds here at the start at this time of year in January okay in January realistically and the burner modem as they go out daily from 8 o'clock in the morning till about 3:30 in the evening and they'll then be stabled under lights but if they need 16 hour of lights to help them cycling in their stables mares and foals typically at this time of year would be going out for two to three hours and if we have a nice day obviously a bit longer and but each individual is treated as an individual and the best possible daily routines for them to be turned out as possible those are all individuals and we have to treat them and regarding and strengthen condition and everything but realistically we try and turn out then for them as long as possible and so therefore at the end of the day out on pasture bone development is crucial to their progress in order to produce the group ones which we have done in the past and I mean just finally looking at these two mares here I mean they seem pretty quiet now but there must be a sort of pressure that comes with looking after such incredible loss that really there is pressure to an extent but we treat them all as individuals and all the same at the same time they have the highest top quality care possible and at the end of the day they are just a pleasure to be around and finally do you have a favorite okay I do indeed and you might be seeing her quite shortly and after the other barn neck of we're lucky enough to see the three three relatively new mares to the farm here recently retired from the racetrack I mean we'll start with Mack evangelist oh she is absolutely gorgeous yeah isn't she you know she's a real star and she settled in here very nicely indeed she of course has been penciled in to visit Galileo this season so she's just going through the routine under lights at night so on and so forth hopefully cycling into next month and view of an early cover from forever be the 14th onwards and then the other two are both ballad or limb mates when they yeah exactly I mean I must say on Mehcad angels so exciting course she was a jewel winner the cool mornin Thorpes takes the race we've had close association with for the past ten years at York and then of course we've got Bally Doyle was the second filly we saw who of course was second in the morgue layers a two-year-old second in the Irish English guineas both in both cases - minding and of course a group on winning two-year-old in France in the Marcel bucyk she's at back from training now obviously settling as with mecca's angel and she will be visiting the very exciting stallion fast neck rock then he'll son who we also stand here in Tipperary along with her we saw evensong who of course is last year's Ribblesdale winner at Royal Ascot she's a daughter of Master Craftsmen who was stand here of course master craftsman very proven sire of Kingston Hill and the Great Gatsby to name but - and she's obviously very closely related to simple verse she too will visit Galloway with the season I mean just there we saw such a small snapshot of what an incredible broodmare band here at cool more yes it's you know incredible brew bear band both of our in-house mares if you will visiting mares permanent borders we see a lot of very high-profile names coming through the sub thankfully to visit our of a wide array of stallions we have here standing at sub behind it and it's hard when you're seeing all those horses come be shown in front of you not just to take the ground sort of thing because in any other stud farm those Group one group two winners will be absolutely pride of place but here I mean we just saw three there there and then yeah it's just we're just so privileged to be honestly that's the only word I can do to describe it and in terms of the homebred man here it seems like that band is now getting bigger and bigger we see these classroom and retiring from the track and coming here I mean they must have huge numbers here now yeah it's a broodmare band which is on the increase most definitely because thankfully we've been most fortunate to race a lot of these wonderful daughters of Galileo etc which ultimately unfortunately have to retire from the track one day but they have been interned have a nicely life here and they're retiring as proved mayor's to cool more I hope you've enjoyed a snapshot look behind the scenes are one of the most favorite sets in the world a place that breeds grizz and nurtures champions of the past present and hopefully long into the future
