Behind the scenes of 'Temple Grandin' at Colorado State University

I don't want people kind of identifying that their autism first and their career second you know I'm a college professor and livestock specialist at a scientist first my name is Temple Grandin and I am professor of animal science at Colorado State University I've been here 20 years and I've been teaching my class twice each year on a short course I do on livestock handling and cattle behavior and equipment design it's been really really good I just love Colorado Colorado said got a lot of cattle out here and there's the West and I just like the West [Music] I think it turned out extremely well and so far you know seems like people are liking at the laughing and crying and having all kinds of emotions Mick Jackson the director came out and visited me for three days and we took them all around here down to the farm talk to him extensively then I spent a half a day with Claire Danes and the thing about Claire Danes as she turned into me in the 60s and the 70s you know the other actors you can recognize them but Claire Danes you'd never recognize if you didn't know that she was playing me and watching her be me was like going back in kind of a strange time machine I it's just unbelievable everything I did in that movie is in character if they'd wanted me to have some romance and that's one of the early versions they want some romantic oh no no no no no that's just not character you can't have that I am a pure geek nerd and I hope I get good geek cred I think the most important message in the movie is that people on the autism spectrum can really do things I'm very concerned today I'm seeing smart people with high-functioning autism and Asperger's and they're not being pushed enough [Music] I get a great deal of satisfaction when I'm a parent says to me that Mike book helps their child to go to college or my book help dull my talk help the parent understand her child and teach them speech or that the cattle industries please do that line stuff works if something that I do makes real change take place out in the real world then I'm going to be happy [Music]
