what's going on YouTube is dying to be all day bringing you another vs. oh yeah here's the thing I bring you a lot of great knives and I'll tell you during you know the video if this knife is great or not and I'll say oh my god knives badass or this knife sucks and blah blah blah and if I tell you that this knife is great and that this knife is great and I leave it at that then what's happening is you want to buy a knife and all you know is that ok they're great knives but how do they compare so I'm going to start with with a series of compared knives and I'm gonna compare knives that are in the same category these are survival knives and I'm gonna compare them that way so I'll Bui Bui survival survival and we're gonna start with the Becker bk7 made by ke baare and the Ontario rat 7 made by well Ontario so first things first Muraki banned I hate that with this one what I did is I got rid of this thing because I can't stand that ended up with this thing and it's ambidextrous perfect for me no more rattle I like it much better but this nylon piece of crap is what it came with this is isn't a nylon piece of crap - I don't know why they're so popular with these drop leg holsters when everybody seems to buy these kayak sheets so let's go over let's go over each blade both 1095 high carbon steel great [ __ ] both black coated both excellent excellent blades this one 12 and 3/4 all all-around I believe this one is 12 and 1/4 7/2 quarter blade 7 and 1/2 blade I believe that's what it is blade for blade these are two - fantastic chunks of Steel let's see the the cutting edge is obviously bigger by almost an inch on the the Becker that this thing is pretty imposing it's a great great knife this one is just fantastic now if I held up the se6 next to this which I'll do a comparison eventually you would look at it and you say holy crap those are the same knife here's the thing the rat is actual what it stands for is Randall's adventure and training right and Randall's adventure and training is SC that's what they are the the people at SC who who designed those knives also designed this knife for Ontario so you think oh well then this is the same as an SE fit and finish on the SE is better the heat-treat on an SE is better but we're not comparing this to the SE yet we will get to that so while the Ontario makes a great knife it is a it's a copycat of another style does that make it any less good no this thing's fantastic this guy right here made by k bar is its own little world right here now let's talk about what I prefer on each one grip and grip feeling the grip on this one the micarta here this linen is awesome awesome material this one is a crappy plastic not good material this one fits with squared edges this one fits with round edges however it's not a round handle [ __ ] as a palm as well and it has hand swells on end which means this one is going to be a more comfortable grip but this one's going to be a better grip I don't know if you guys know what I mean there but this one obviously since it's linen micarta especially when it's warm out this one's gonna have some nice tack to it this one is gonna be slick no matter what you want to either hit it with some sandpaper or you can do a wrap or you can do a tape anything you do to add grip to this will benefit the knife overall grip shape well here we go I mean they're both very well done I mean the shape is is awesome as far as grip comfort and shape though I'm giving it to this grip material I'm giving it to this so if you plan on or if you're one of those people that likes to throw athletic tape or things like that around your grip for extra grip then you are going to love this freaking grip it's awesome at the end of the grip both have the hammer end both have a lanyard hole this one is gigantic also this hammer end is flat it's not just flat here but it's flat on both sides so you can hit it from different angles and all will be okay this one is flat here but it rounds out so it makes it a little bit more difficult as a hammer how are they held on this one with double sided hex this one with a hex and a nut I'm pretty sure you can see that right there they're both on there pretty well this one is gonna loosen before this one but you can find interchangeable grips for these everywhere so you could really do anything with the grip so what it really comes down to is blade and blade comfort both have jimping this one has a ramp this one does not this one however has a Choi so when I jump with this one I bring my hand way up crazy crazy comfortable awesome to use with this guy right here not having a child I'm relied solely on this thumb ramp and I lose the amount of control that I have with the Ontario so when it comes to grip comfort to the brain not just grip comfort but glit cuff grip comforts and a blade the the Ontario in my opinion beats it by a long shot so so much better to grab we're gonna talk about the grind right this one and this one they're both flat grind which I love this one however has a false edge which means you lose some meat at the tip where this one does not see how that works this one's fatter all the way through because it doesn't have the false edge which you don't really need on this knife this is a drop point this is a clip point right so that basically comes down to what you prefer to look at do you prefer to look at a drop I mean a clip point or do you prefer to drop the drop point look me personally I prefer the look of this blade over this blade so hammer is better here grip shape and size is better here grip material is better here lanyard hole is better here thumb rest and jimping is better here soil is better here because this one doesn't have one blade edge this guy beats it but now we're gonna talk blade strength and this is one of the keys that means so much and as we're on our way to play it strength I just wanna talk about blade coating before we get really started this is a very grippy blade coating it's textured where this one is very smooth and if you're cutting through something the smoother the better obviously especially with baton I'm things like that however when you have a longer blade hoop helps with batani what you got there but blade strength first the the strength of the coating this one they've I've used these pretty much equal this one that's barely coming off a tear this one I'm losing coating faster so the coating on this one is definitely better blade strength though the edges held up on both these knives they have great great edges as far as retaining an edge and keeping and staying sharp this one however I don't think I'm gonna be able to show you in this light or this right here I have a little baby chip and while baby chips are pretty pretty easy to get rid of it's the only one of my higher-end survival knives that actually took a chip the only one the tops the SE the Becker my my other K bars none of them took a chip this is the only one and I've put them through equal usage you guys see what I do and that's just for testing and I don't do all that every day with these knives right so as far as the strength of the edge I mean I put my finger right there and maybe that'll work I don't know if you can actually I don't know if you could see it but there's a little tiny chip in the blade so when it comes time to overall blade strength I have to go with the Becker now this is where this is where I get kind of twisted which one do I think is better which one do I like better well chopping this thing is so much better the ability to carry this thing just carries really well to some of you that might not sound like that makes any sense but this one carries well overall feel I like this one better overall look I like this one better I mean it's kind of it's literally it's like picking skin flakes I mean there's there's nothing there to to really say one is better or worse than the others and so basically when talking about these knives it comes down to what do you like better so you get on YouTube and you're saying you know I'm really interested in buying a survival knife I looked at this and I thought wow that's really cool I looked at this and I thought wow that's really cool but which one's better they aren't there isn't one better fit and finish this is just plastic so I mean it fit and finish is pretty pretty easy to tell and you know I thought this was a flat grind but now that I'm looking at it's not it's actually a saber grind my bad so again saber grind flat grind what do you like better some people like boat awning with a saber grind better because they feel to split the wood better some people like boot awning with this because they feels gonna go through easier again it's all preference literally if you are looking to buy a survival knife and these are your two choices the Ontario rat 7 or the BK Becker BK 7 and you really really want one of these and don't know which one do this look at them take five minutes stare at them just really see them from all angles that they show you on on on you know the images or whatever look at this I'm showing you right now I'm showing you this is what it looks like from the back this is what it looks like from the top this is the spines right this is the the edge profiling and there you go this is it this is what it comes down to it has nothing to do with is this one going to outperform this one or is this one I can't perform this one if you buy either of these you're buying a fantastic fantastic survival knife these are great but the real question is how do they throw hey I gotta show you cuz I'm Donny be all day dammit let's go do something alright guys so before we throw we're gonna get into some a little bit of chop some nice hardwood this is a pretty stiff sycamore and if you're gonna chip a blade wood this is a pretty good wood to use chopping holy [ __ ] I mean the pk9 is a chopper it's an all-out chopper it's an all-out this knife has great bite type knife it's just fantastic chopping with this blade you're not gonna damage it I guaranteed the edge is so fine it's so right it just handles this knife how does it chop well pretty freakin fantastic the difference is if you hold it at the end of the grip to get a good swing on it you're gonna have a easier chance of losing this one long before you lose the other one there's just not much to grab onto however it's a good chopper and I'm barely putting swings into this and I'm removing wood you see that I almost lost it there it just doesn't have the ability to grip because it doesn't have this right there on the end of that handle this right here I put my middle finger on that this knife is going nowhere I mean nowhere I can chop with this all day long and at the end of the day it's still in my hand that is a very important something when you're talking about a survival knife you want to know that you aren't gonna drop it while chopping that's pretty good to know all right guys this is what I love to do we are going to give each of these a five-yard Chuck let's see how they fly [Music] well I'll tell you what [Laughter] that is beautiful here you guys come take a look at this because uh that's - very very nice throws the pipe is I mean equally good these guys you can see here's the grouping right there perfect I mean these two knives are going to toss very very easily if that's what you like to use them for and I know they're not throwing knives but apparently they do not know that [ __ ] because they throw amazingly so that's good let's go up put them on a rack alright so here you have them guys the Becker bk7 and the Ontario rat 7 both made in the USA both fantastic knives now I did a skinner shootout between two knives on a person's request and I had a couple people messaged me and tell me that they really liked that and they'd like to do more and there's apparently a billion videos where they do comparisons and you know they feel that sometimes people are swayed because they get gifts from knife companies and they feel like they're they're talking a little bit too great about one over the other when they probably shouldn't be the knives are pretty equaled and I have to say that these knives are mine I buy them they're not given to me so what I say about them is what I actually feel about them and what I feel about these two right here I'll tell you what I can't I can't really give a one over the other type thing on these if I need it for chopping I'm taking that Becker all day long if it's something I plan on carrying I'm probably gonna use the Ontario it's it's really really difficult to put these two in a what's better category and here's the thing I have knives that aren't as good as either of these and I have knives that are better than better than both of these so eventually I'll you know I'm gonna tie in my regular night videos but I'm also gonna start doing some battles so you guys can see for yourselves which one might be the better buy and as far as these two are concerned I have to say you can't go wrong with either both are fantastic I'm not sure about price point I think they're actually both pretty similar maybe in the 70 $80 range as far as like eBay is concerned so they aren't overly expensive but the the amount of usable knife you get for for the price is just insane you're gonna get a lot of years out of these blades and for the price it's gonna be very very well worth it so I'll tell you what first battle between the survival knives the rad7 the bk7 it's a toss of the dice guys I literally just say to you this look at them decide which one you feel is better to the eye and buy that one because there's nothing else about these knives that are gonna make you change your mind the other way I'm da DB all day and until next knife
