hey everyone today we're going to take a look at two of the most popular subscription-based Survival boxes don't go anywhere you're watching living Survival now the title of this video is a pocket box vs. battle box now frankly I couldn't think of a better title but I want to make it clear right off the bat that I'm not going to be comparing which box is better the boxes are actually very different in the items that are included the epochal box is more wilderness based survival skill based primitive based with the handmade things that are included in every box for example in the battle box is more tactical more urban related if you will so they are two very different boxes and by the end of this video hopefully you'll be able to tell which one would better suit your taste if you're interested in a survival based subscription box now the apocalypse and battle box are both subscription-based boxes which means you pay a fee and then on a regular basis you'll receive a new box full of goodies which they say will exceed the retail value of what you pay for the box again I'm not going to be comparing which one is better than the other I just wanted to show you the contents so that you can see how the two subscription services are different and which one you might like better now this is the February box for a pocke box and the mission 12 for battle box so at the time of this video these are the two latest boxes for each service the apocalypse is going to cost you $50 every two months with an 895 shipping charge so 58 95 you'll receive a box on a bi-monthly basis battle box has four different plans which we'll look at in a moment starting at $24.99 for their basic going up to their $49.99 for their advanced their pro is $99.99 and then their Pro Plus which is this box is 140 $9.99 and that's per month these are delivered to you every single month now both of these boxes tend to come with a certain theme month the month for example I know this bottle battle box is mostly first-aid related and you might find maybe a fire related apakah box where they'll give you a bunch of ways to start a fire now the apocalypse also offers a skills challenge in every box which I find is pretty cool so let's take a look at the contents included in each box by opening them up so right off the bat you see that they are pretty packed full of gear right up top on the apocalypse you'll get a contents list which will tell you a little brief description about everything that's included and then you also will get a skills challenge what these skills challenges are is using something inside the box to design an item or perform a skill like fire started or something like that the battle box comes with a little card in it which tells you the current mission this one is the Med prep mission and then on the back of the card it will tell you all the different levels so starting at their basic subscription $24.99 it will tell you the certain value it breaks down the retail prices of everything that's included and then it goes on up to their advanced pro and pro plus and tells you what additional items you get for those addition additional subscription levels so let's take a look at the apocalypse first again these are generally more wilderness based you often will get a handmade tool in them which is very cool as well as the skills challenged to perform a skill using what's included in the box so we can go by what's listed on the sheet for the contents here the first item is a handmade aboriginal all hand forged all with a jib wa bird snare kit so very cool very primitive looks like you have a way to snare a bird here gives you instructions on how to set it up again that's commonly what you'll find in the epochal ox is cool little handmade items like this as well as some sort of a skill to perform next item here is a fire kit patch I've often seen patches included in the apocalypse this one's cool because you can label your fire kit with it next item is stuck a survival story by Creek who is the the founder of apocalypse so it looks like a cool little read here it's a little survival story next is this large item here this is a 6 by 9 it looks like emergency apakah tarp so very cool can always throw one of these in your vehicle for example you never know when you might need shelter it's orange so that you can use it to signal with you could probably use it as a makeshift bivy as well to go along with that item you have how to live under a tarp so this is a very very cool little guide here this is something that I will certainly take with me to the woods and read and try to set up it shows you all different setups with good pictures here and different steps to be able to set up these different shelters so that's very cool you can do that along with your tarp next item is these wildflower honey straws everybody knows that honey is very medicinal and you can use these to give you a short burst of energy I've never seen them put into a straw like that before that's a pretty cool way to keep it very minimal and carry these in your pack with you next item here is a apakah box pennant this one is actually free there is no price on this so it's just sort of an included bonus now I know that they're doing a contest or a you know a way to represent a pocke box by basically taking this to your favorite camping or hiking or something like that spot take a picture you can post it on their Instagram so that's pretty cool now something that I'm pretty interested in is this is a build-your-own fire piston kit so they give you the included here included instructions here this is actually the February Skills Challenge so you can build your own a fire piston which is pretty cool instructions on how to do it and all the materials included in there so the last item here is an additional Skills Challenge this is a milkweed pod and apparently you can use the milkweed pod with these balloons to create a fire so that's pretty interesting you have a link that you can follow to see exactly how to do that with the included material so that's it for the epoxy again as you've seen it's it's very wilderness related and very skills related so if that's something you're interested in the apocalypse is certainly the way to go for that so let's take a look at the contents of the battle box again this is their ProPlus battle box so we're actually going to start with the items that would come in the starter and then we'll go on up from there so starting with the starter pack what you would get would be this small moly med pouch so it looks like just a six by six med pouch that you can Molly on to a pack it's red in color so that's cool it signifies first aid for sure next item in the starter pack is this ready man a survival card or medic card as they call it it looks like there's a couple different little hooks in there and looks like a little saw little file so it gives you all their different breakdown of cards on their website so you can check that out that's included in the starter pack a 4-inch Israeli bandage that is a very nice item to have included in your trauma kit or in your first-aid kit and then you have a book the battle box often comes with these books which is very cool a very nice item to add to your library this is the first-aid field guide it's a small book seems like it's fairly weather resistant but this will tell you a bunch of information on injuries that you could obtain in the field and how to deal with them very cool book and then the last item that you get in the starter kit for $24.99 a month would be this first aid kits a 62 piece first aid kit comes with pretty much everything that you would see in a first aid kit it seems to be a pretty large first aid kit so something cool you could just throw in the cupboard at home and have that ready to go you could also throw this in the vehicle never can go wrong with a ready-made first aid kit alright so now we're going to jump up to the advanced box which would cost you $49.99 a month you think you'd get everything that I just showed plus you get the surgical tool set very cool little set to be able to do some small surgeries you get two straight hemostats a curved hemostat pair of scissors pair of tweezers scalpel handle scalpel blades suture set needle probe alcohol wipes and a little light so again cool little thing to have on hand a little minor surgery so you'll instrument kit you get a rat's tourniquet pretty popular tourniquet very easy to use you can use it one-handed definitely you want to learn how to use these properly before you throw them in your kit I have another one of these in another kit so that is pretty cool as well then the final item in the advanced pack for $49.99 is the survival medicine guide again another very good book it looks like certainly look forward to to reading this this is more of a book that you you know read at home and just study up on survival medicine so very cool I love books and I will definitely read both of those alright let's jump on up to the pro kit for $99.99 so what you get in the pro kit is you get the Leatherman Raptor shears very cool that they included these in here the Raptor shears are pretty cool they are just a pair of shears that go down into a holster like that pop open and then you have a very high-quality pair of shears for your med kit again you could throw a lot of these items in the vehicle and you'd have them ready in case of an accident another person gets in an accident or any kind of trauma like that and then the final item in here would be the Pro Plus which is usually a knife this is the Fox knifes al SR FX for for seven rescue knife now these are inexpensive knife you can probably find these on Amazon for around a hundred dollars so you know that's one two thirds of the price of this box right here with this knife it looks like it's just a little rescue survival knife you got a belt cutter there on the side and then you have a blade with some serrations in it glass punch on the back and it's also brightly colored so it would be easy to see if you dropped it for example comes with a nice little nylon sheath here so very cool item again to throw in your car emergency kit which is probably where we'll put it so what is my opinion on these boxes well I think if you're someone who enjoys a subscription-based service like a magazine for example you're going to get that magazine every month you never really know what the contents are you get it before everyone else that's sort of the same theory that goes with these subscription-based boxes if you like being excited by the contents that come in every month or every other month then it's definitely something that you should look into I do think that the value is there with the apocalypse you get those handmade tools which I which really can be priceless plus you get the skills challenges to put them together I know they've done a bow drill set how to make a bow you know they do a lot of wilderness things like that so if that's the type of thing that you're into if you like the wilderness survival and you like handmade items then the apakah box might be the one for you if you like more tactical gadgets and goodies than the battle box might be for you it's a little more expensive when you get up into their advanced their pro in their Pro Plus packs but it is definitely worth it again with that knife it's $100 knife all day long and that's two-thirds the price of that Pro Plus plan so very nice items in there I like the books that are included I'll definitely use those I think the values there for the most part with both boxes it just comes down to whether you like paying upfront and then being surprised later could you go out and buy these items sure you could it's going to cost you a little bit more and some of the items you may not like so if that's not your thing then don't subscribe to the service it makes a great gift idea you can cancel at any time with both boxes and again if you're the type of person that maybe subscribes to a magazine or something like that you get it every month you never know what you're going to get then these subscription base boxes might be for you I hope you guys enjoyed taking a look at this video today comparing the two again not looking at which one is better than the other I don't think one is better than the other they're very different boxes and you would just have to figure out which box would be better suited to what you're looking to accomplish but I hope you liked taking a look at them side-by-side nevertheless make sure you give this video a big thumbs up for me make sure you leave me some comments on what you think about the apocalypse and battle box I'd be excited to hear your thoughts on that make sure you share this video to your friends and family on social media follow me on social media as well and as these guys
