hi it's lana from three birds renovations and welcome to the ultimate bathroom renovation guide we're going to renovate this old dated bathroom into something fresh and fabulous and we're going to show you every single step of the process so you can learn how to do it in your home [Music] now bathroom renovations can be a real torture test not only for your design skills but also your project management skills the process involves so many specialist trades all working in a small space and needing to meet some really specific requirements like waterproofing electrical regulations and laying intricate tile patterns everything has to happen in a particular order and if you don't you could lose money time and the bathroom of your dreams don't worry that's not going to happen because we're going to step you through the whole renault process right now first things first the design phase you want to create a vision board and explore colors and layout of the space having a proper vision board is so important because you need to know what you're working towards it will keep you on track for all the design decisions you're going to make now it's really important you confirm the exact size of your bathroom and sketch up some potential layouts to scale you can do this with a pencil and paper or use some great technology like the reese imagined 3d planner like seriously how did we ever renovate bathrooms without this you can totally create your entire space and check the scale of all your items make sure it fits and get a glimpse of what your future bathroom is going to look like [Music] now while ed sorts out the measurements which he's fabulous at i'm going to have a little bit of a chat to you about when you walk into your bathroom what do you want to see and you want that wow moment so in this one it's going to be the bath and it's actually going to be this big shower wall that is going to frame the shower and the bath but in order to do that at the moment you walk into this bathroom and all you kind of see is this wall this way you see here but we need to pull this back so you get the full visual [Music] so now is the time to choose your tiles um but don't buy them yet first of all get some samples show them to your tyler check they're going to work and also find out the lead times on them before you place the order we've decided on the final layout for the bathroom and the next stage is the electrical plan once you've got your dream electrical plan it is super important to check in with your electrician to make sure everything's being placed safely and abiding by the laws now that we've got a list of all the fixtures and fittings we want to use in the space and you've checked everything with the reese 3d floor planner to make sure it all works perfectly with the scale of the bathroom we will be sharing all these product choices in our brief to the builder plumber tiler and electrician depending on the magnitude of your bathroom renault you'll likely need to demolish parts if not all of your existing bathroom before doing this you must have the material behind your walls tested by a qualified professional to determine if there is any asbestos present if there is it will need to be removed by a licensed asbestos removalist [Music] have your builder or carpenter construct any new walls including wall niches install new windows or skylights and drop the floor if needed to provide a flush floor height with the adjoining room [Music] meet with your plumber and tyler together on site to discuss the layout details this includes every fixture fitting where the floor will fall to waste what waste types you'll be using and your desired tile layout [Music] the roughing stage is when you're putting your plumbing your pipes and your electrical wires behind the walls before the wall lining goes on and it's a really important stage that you want to be on site for to make sure everything's at the right heights and everything's getting put where it needs to go if you have detailed drawings from your cabinet maker or draftsman you can use those now too you will need your tapware and toilet if it's an in-wall system on-site so that their internal parts can be installed into the wall cavity you will also need your vanity and basin specs on hand in addition you will need to know exactly where you want all your electricals to go including lights pendants and power points now don't change your mind after this stage because it will cost you both time and money to move your fixtures and fittings around can i put that screw in i was having a crazy yeah oh my god yeah sorry it's not really well done [Music] i was gonna wait i was gonna wait till you oh no don't worry i i love it there we go that's all i needed all right you see this stretch this fits so good you fly how you get so iconic [Music] this is the waterproofing stage okay this is not something you want to diy you want to bring in the professionals these guys are waterproofing professionals your tyler can also do it and if you rush this or get it wrong or do a bad job the drama you're going to feel you're going to have to rip off tiles later and find the source of the problem so don't rush this step get it right first time so waterproofing is about a three day process day one you put the primer on day two the first coat of the membrane and day three the second coat of the membrane [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] your tiler will screed the floor that's the sand and cement bed that needs to be installed prior to tiling [Music] [Music] the tile is also going to need to know the exact dimensions of your shower and your shower screen [Music] instead of a glass shower screen for the shower recess over here we've gone with a fixed wall it's a real feature of this bathroom but if you were going with your typical glass shower screen now is the time to get your glazier out the minute you finish your tiling and grouting you are ready to get them out to measure when you glaze your roots out measuring up it's really important to confirm what hardware and if you're having the hinges that you need the color and the style can really impact the final look of your bathroom [Music] now that tiling is finished we're at the fun stage of fit off so we've got the plumbers and electricians here fitting out all the fixtures and fittings and the down lights so we've got the bath going in the toilet the vanity the feature lights and the beautiful down [Applause] now lights forget to ask your plumber waterproofer glaze your if you use them electrician for certificates certifying their work and put them in a safe folder somewhere safe along with the warranties for all your fixtures and fittings so now it's time to have a proper clean of your bathroom you can do that yourself or getting some help this is where you want to be cleaning the grout the taps the bath don't forget to get your windows cleaned inside and out too and once your bathroom is cleaned that's when you can get in your tile a plumber or a corking specialist to silicon all the joints so you can see here the gaps up the top there to the ceiling that needs silicon put in it but you have to wait till your bathroom is clean then you do that job [Music] oh my gosh this is the first time i'm seeing this bathroom styled i know when bonn has finished styling a space because i can smell it i can smell her signature scent with these beautiful akoya candles bond styling is not just beautiful it's very clever i have noticed that the gorgeous peekapoo toilet paper here the wrapping is matching the artwork in the other corner of the room now that's pulling the room together who would have thought you could do that with toilet paper [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] now well done that was a lot to take on but now you know every step on how to renovate your bathroom you've gotten through the hard stuff now we're on to the good stuff which is sitting in that bath and having a glass of wine
