BATHROOM REMODEL | RV RENOVATION

[Music] we're trenton alley and for the past few weeks we've been renovating terry our 2002 camp trailer it's been a wild ride but the transformation is almost complete only one thing is left to remodel this very tiny bathroom we have some unique ideas for this renault i know the first thing you're thinking is oh my gosh trent you can't put wood inside the shower you're crazy you're right you're exactly right but we're very confident with how it'll turn out i hope the shower head that we got is gonna work i don't think it will i didn't know any better i'd say this isn't gonna work so waiting for it's our very last step to complete the renovation of terry today is finally the day we're renovating the bathroom i'm just really worried that i'm gonna open a big can of worms and it's going to be a huge problem wouldn't you rather know that there's mold behind the shower though yeah it is a beautiful day yeah today we're going to start renovating the bathroom [Music] bye really i think we have a weird smell that we can't figure out where it's coming from now in one of the previous episodes i was talking about how it kind of stunk in the trailer that was from the black tank and that smells completely gone doesn't smell like that anymore it it like kind of smells like fried chicken mixed with a fart we don't we can't figure out what it is but it's like my nose is deceiving me i think what do you smell boy what is it it's fried chicken mixed with a fart i can't figure out definitely not coming from in there and that's the thing is like i can't really go anywhere where the smell is like stronger it's just like kind of in the middle of the camper you just get like a kfc fart smell i don't know what it is we have been cooking in here and we made some chicken the other night but it doesn't smell like cooked chicken it did rain the other night and we're thinking okay is there rain getting in somewhere i'm really hoping that an animal didn't somehow get in somewhere and then die but we don't know where this smell is coming from and it comes and goes it's very frustrating and we don't like it but anyways enough with my nose capades let's get back to work here so i got all the stuff taken out of the bathtub i hope the shower head that we got is going to work i don't think it will oh great we have one of the ones that goes like over your head oh that would actually go inside here huh it's in the house in a box so i'm gonna have to open it and figure it out before i can actually install it but first i need to bleed these lines of any leftover water there's no leftover water okay step one take out this old shower curtain rod [Music] i want you to just come up here pinching me [Music] who needs a knife when you have trent's hands hey oh yes all right operation shower curtain is complete yep smells like fried chicken and a fart out here now the next thing is that this plastic shell needs to come out now one thing i'm really worried about is that there's like pretty much a gap around the top here everywhere so when you're in here doing your thing and singing and showering and cleaning you're probably splashing water up and it probably goes behind this and then causes mold and that's probably what everyone's always worried about when they're tearing out these things is that there's going to be mold behind there that's a very realistic possibility i'm really concerned maybe the the fried chicken and fart smell is coming from behind this lining here and it's kind of like uh in with these plastic rivets that i'm gonna have to break out and once it comes out there's there's really no going back this is the moment of no return i wonder if the tub used to be white i bet it did that's disgusting all right well there goes nothing whoa boy oh my hey hi bud oh frank frank is out here keeping an eye on everything thanks for guarding our trash frank whoa it is really nice to see that there's not any water damage any mold i did cut my thumb but that's no big deal but now we have a special treatment that ali is going to do to the tub to make it white again because this nasty yellow is just not doing it for anybody so while ali is cleaning and prepping the tub and painting it white i'm gonna go start working on the water heater now there is a six gallon suburban propane water heater built into terry which would probably work just fine however it's only six gallons and when we are building the house and living in the trailer i don't know if you guys saw what trent looked like after working on the lift kit on the truck but he gets completely submerged in the most disgusting dirt and grease possible so i know while working on the house we need to be able to take real hot showers so i have a gerard tankless water heater that i picked up it's the same tankless water heater that we had in the van we absolutely loved it you can set the temperature to however hot you want it turn it on and you have endless hot water so this is the cavity here where the water heater lives there's also a lot of random storage in here there's a lot of mouse poop under here so we're probably gonna have to clean this out i'm gonna throw away everything that's in this cavity the people that owned terry before us left a croquet set there's a ratchet a jump rope and a bunch of hot dog roasting sticks i wouldn't touch all of that all those little black specks those are all mouse poop so we probably shouldn't be breathing the air in here too rapidly or too readily if we can help it ali i don't i don't think you should be jump roping with the hantavirus jump rope [Laughter] today i'm doing something i haven't done in a long time if i'm going to be painting and getting super dirty i don't want to get my clothes all ruined i need to change into my coveralls i haven't worn these in a while they're a little warm but they're definitely going to do the trick and protect me from getting a little bit disgusting today which i definitely anticipate getting [Music] but nothing ever [Music] i'm calling in the reinforcements if there is one time in your life when it is good to have a germaphobe on your hands it's when you need to clean up some mouse poop this is not what i want to do right now this is literally your specialty all right this is also the one time when having masks around comes in handy yeah thank you coronavirus you got a mask you got dish gloves yeah how old is this poop six months oh i don't know how to tell the age of mouse scat it all looks the same to me but there is quite a bit in here i got this you got this i got this okay it looks like there's a tornado coming so oh boy let's clean up guess i can't do this today all right trenton has run off to the hardware store it does look like it's gonna rain i'm gonna try to get this poop infestation out of here as quickly and cleanly as possible not excited about this let's go [Music] all right i think that's the best i'm gonna be able to do pretty disgusting this is the face of someone who looks very disappointed i'm really i'm just i'm just happy to have you in my life it's clean dude what are you talking about that's great it's beautiful would you store your bedding under here no but that's not what this is for uh no i think it looks fine now let's face it all that's going to go in here is stuff we don't even really want to keep anyway yeah what's going to go in here i don't know this is like exterior garage storage maybe like our black water hoses yeah those could go away yeah nothing not our bedding professional installation is strongly recommended get out of here they're trying to say i can't do this so luckily installation of these is actually relatively simple this is the inlet for propane inlet for water outlet for water positive negative and then these two blue wires go to this little control panel that determines the temperature right in here we have cold water in hot water out lp gas one of these is positive one of these is negative and i don't know what the third one does got to get my volt meter out check those and then we can start installing this thing [Music] all right go ahead and flip that switch again for me moment of truth hey all right you can turn it off so at least the 12 volt is all hooked up correctly now i just need to get the gas going and get the hot and the cold water connected [Music] silicone stinks man like fried chicken and farts or no like nasty chemicals that'll kill you if you smell it for too long i got the water heater installed i got everything connected i had to bend some of the pex lines but i think they're gonna hold i wanted to turn on the water to test all the connections and test the propane to see if it would work but we've got these lines over here hi ellie those lines need to be connected to the new shower faucet before we can even test to see if the water heater is leaking needless to say we might be able to throw the mattress back in here and sleep here tonight but the van is not going back to normal until at least tomorrow i have faith we'll see we're going to make this happen right now we're going to sleep in here [Music] tonight [Music] all right allie what do you say stinky [Music] it's okay i was a little nervous about this and i think it'll take a few coats i mean when you look at it right now it just kind of looks like a white tub i bet especially on camera probably looks really good okay compared to like how yellow and nasty it was yeah in person it looks a little uneven not gonna lie we're gonna give it an hour wait to do a second coat and hopefully that'll make a huge difference okay honestly it's like poured rain and now it's just a little bit windy we're trying to get this all done in between the weather the bathtub is looking decent and trent has just decided to tell me that i might as well get painting the walls as well so i'm just saying while we're at it while we're at it we're doing it all of course that means you know it you love it the trent can shake oh you're ready for that way too aggressive thank you sir i guess we could show you too you guys want to see the shower mixer it probably looks black on camera but it's brushed copper bronze is the closest to black we could find oh we couldn't find black no oh this looks this looks cool it looks really close and dirty this shower will go at the top and there's all these pieces and if you want to play frisbee golf you've got a extra disc with you huh [Music] all right i think i've got that wall all lacquered how's it looking in here like a creamy off light oh nice looks really good [Music] oh man i jumped the gun i wasn't thinking i made an irrational decision i was like i'm just going to start cutting the boards oh yeah we probably haven't told you guys but see this tongue and groove that's right here we're going to use the same tongue and groove inside the shower and i know the first thing you're thinking is oh my gosh trent you can't put wood inside the shower you're crazy you're exactly right but i'm going to lacquer the crap out of it and i'm going to make sure that it's not water permeable and uh we're gonna roll the dice it's gonna look cool you guys are gonna love it we're gonna love it there's never gonna be any mold got our fingers crossed we're knocking on wood but i decided i needed to cut out some of the corner molding in here so i came in with the with the razor knife and i cut the molding out and bam i dropped a bunch of little pieces of the molding and sawdust and pieces of wood and then i was like oh just pick those up really quick oh well the tub is wet paint right now so basically i ruined everything and this is ally's mood real nice i'm sorry i didn't mean to yeah i ruined it clear [Music] okay not gonna lie things are heating up in here the sun is starting to go down things are getting crazy hold this and don't let it drip tren is making a huge mess he said that i had to finish painting which i did so that he could install immediately so everything is wet everything is a disaster but we're going for it anyway we told ourselves over and over that it would be totally fine to wait till the very end to do the bathroom last it's like its own little room it's not a big deal and now we are definitely realizing that this is a huge project i thought it would be easier to renovate this room because it's such a small tiny room but i think it's like a hundred times harder because every time you turn around you touch something and everything is wet it's a nightmare i don't know if this is going to work i didn't know any better i'd say this isn't going to work i have these little black things these little black spacers that go in here yeah so then they will require a little bit less threads uh-oh come on when you're home oh oh he's the greatest man alive how dare i ha did i put one of those in there i don't know i think there was three of these we're gonna pretend those are three now is the real moment of truth because we get to turn on the water pump and then while we try to bleed the lines one i don't think we can bleed these lines shoot no no no you can't put water in there for three days what yeah how are we gonna do this i have no idea i need a bucket we need a bucket but also i don't know on this little knob here one makes the water go out the spout one makes you want to go out the thing that shoots you straight into the ceiling so really quickly we need to figure out which direction that needs to go and uh and not spill any water in here as well as bleeding air out of all the other lines and checking the water heater to make sure it's not leaking as well wow scary a lot of things going on we just gotta wing it oh okay you just gotta go for it that's a good thing you're good at winging it [Music] okay so now we are bleeding all the air out of the other faucets ready or not here we go here we go all right first order of business i have no idea if this knob in this direction means water's coming out the bottom or if water is coming out the top so i'm going to lightly open this knob and hopefully water comes out the bottom [Music] oh beautiful oh look how nice that is i like that and in case you guys are wondering you can move this out of the way so that you don't bang your knee on it or something we bled the lines of water from everything that has water connected to it the kitchen sink the bathroom sink we flush the toilet and it looks like the bathtub shower mixer is working yeah it does uh the only problem i think is that these hoses like stick out a little bit now oh they didn't used to stick out before this seems like a terrible idea to me i'm just getting them a little warm to kind of move them around you have a fire extinguisher handy this is not osha approved osha is not here hopefully it doesn't cause a leak why would it leak who knows what are you talking about this is you know it's just part of life leaks happen things explode things catch on fire you are not instilling confidence in me right now we're gonna be fine if there's a leak we'll fix it but there could be a leak that's just part of working on your own stuff is when there is a leak it's your problem and you get to fix it if you pay somebody and then there's a leak you can call and you're like yo bob you fixed this and now it's leaking come back and fix it again but this time you get to call this guy you're my bob i get to go back and fix it yeah bob's your uncle bob's my husband actually love your husband things are looking insane but at least for now there's no leaks or explosions or issues that i can see i think um no we gotta finish this wall we're not done let's keep going i can feel aly like trying to hey we'll see you guys tomorrow [Music] we always get a lot of questions asking why frank doesn't have a food bowl now frank loves food any type of food he can get his hands on he will scarf it down as fast as possible so a problem we've always had with frank is if we put his food in a bowl he like inhales it he doesn't chew it or eat it he like literally inhales it and then he burps and like it's just not as good for digestion he's supposed to chew his food up so they actually make some of these really sophisticated dog bowls that look like rubber grass or there's like some that are a maze and you put their food in it so that they have to go through and eat each piece and slowly eat their food some of these are expensive and they take up space so what we do is we put frank's food on the floor he goes around and he eats one or two pieces at a time he actually chews it and it solves the problem without spending money or wasting space so for those of you guys wondering and asking that's why frank doesn't have a food bowl it's not because we don't love him [Music] [Music] no limit to what we can do coffee was absolutely delicious we are finally getting started for the day trent is walking out to the barn to grab a bunch of tools so we can finish up the bathroom there were no leaks last night the water heater has been working the water in general is staying intact before we can get started today though i need to get cleaned up [Music] we're putting on a triple thick coat of polyurethane on these boards and i asked trent yesterday do we need to put something behind these planks so that water doesn't seep behind anything and cause any water damage and he said no why would we do that ally's trying to foreshadow problems here so that she can blame me down the road but really this is all ally's idea no i think this will look really great in the end i really hope it stays waterproof we're going to put on a couple coats of these and then seal it all and caulk all the corners and all the seams once it's all installed and we'll let you know what happens if anything leaks or if there's any water damage down the road we will be sure to tell you about it are you hungry i'm starving and watermelon too how's it coming in there i'm done you're done can i look oh my goodness you're done done oh my goodness do you guys want to see what our brand new shower looks like look at this oh my goodness don't mind the toilet paper roll i love it i really hope this is watertight and waterproof because it looks absolutely amazing look at that oh my goodness i really like this like one zebra stripe in the back of the wall cool huh yeah maybe it's a different tree that got mixed in i think it adds a nice little nice little style to it it's got character i love it i'm gonna run out to the barn and see if we have any more of those wood planks and then we'll get this puppy finished [Music] i wanna dance with you everything's moving slower [Music] i don't know if you guys can tell but eleanor is actually very pregnant izzy nancy's baby is growing up healthy and strong she's doing great and we think that eleanor is due probably in six weeks four to six weeks we're a little nervous though because this breed of goat nigerian dwarf goats are known to throw quads which means she could have four little baby goats i don't know if we're prepared for that good girl [Music] she is looking very big from the back i built you something you built me something ready it's a raft oh my gosh like swiss family robinson we just need some vines to tie it together and then we can you probably have to lay flat to disperse your weight evenly also it's got good flare sorry for the noise yeah all the kids are out today these kids really like their dirt bikes kids alrighty then i'm gonna throw some polyurethane on this puppy we'll get it installed we'll do another thick coat of poly in there and maybe hang up a toilet paper holder or something awesome all right everybody a considerable amount of time has passed you see how skinny you have to beat it you can make it into our bathroom and ally did an extra layer of poly the finish turned out really nice it does look amazing trent has done an incredible job in here uh however we do have a small problem i can't use the shower [Laughter] i have to shower on my knees we did not plan that well at all so i'm gonna buy some knee pads the next time we're at the hardware store and we'll call it good and i got a fat bead of clear silicone in these two corners and this corner where it meets the wall we're gonna be water tighten this puppy we just need to get ourselves a little shower curtain and some knee pads and i'm ready to take a shower i'm showering in here tonight baby [Music] cool [Music] all right so i'm probably going to get a lot of crap for this i know when i showed it to ally she thought it was really stupid but this right here is obviously a nice toilet paper holder but then this flat section here is for your phone i thought that was a really good idea obviously because i bought the toilet paper holder let me know if you guys think that's a good idea or you think that's weird weird concept oh is that supposed to it just kind of sits there it's just for grip that is super weird you're doing some high-speed phone places in the bathroom like oh you got to throw your phone down you don't want it slipping off into the the abyss what type of bathroom adventures are you having you never know all right i just forgot that it's been two days i was like wow did we just demolish and like rebuild that bathroom in one day no it's been two days and we still have to do the toilet and the floor trim but we're gonna save that for another day we got a lot done actually and it's about six o'clock we got in a pretty full day of work i'd say it is a holiday though and trent's mom is getting off early from work so i think we're going to enjoy the rest of the night with her my mom just got home and it looks like she brought some food home with her hello how are you i'm fine and i'm not on camera everyone on youtube has been asking how is gloria lately we haven't seen gloria lately well just tell that i'm incognito my mom is doing a head to toe once over disinfection that she does when she comes home from working in the instacare alley's getting us some glasses of
