9 Items, 9 Outfits (capsule wardrobe challenge)

dressing well doesn't have to be complicated it's easy to get caught up in chasing the latest trends always wanting to buy something new and exciting to add to your wardrobe but you don't need all that much to have an excellent wardrobe with pieces you love and many different outfit possibilities in today's video I want to show you that with the right pieces and when you know your style you don't actually need all that much I'm going to take nine items and attempt to make nine outfits with only those nine items but I'm not alone for this I have got an exciting special guest also joining me for this challenge today he is well versed in a minimalist Style with a love for neutral colors and Converses and he has been crushing it on YouTube making a lot of videos with shoes as thumbnails I am pleased to introduce to you Mr Harry has hey how's it going Tim thanks for having me great to see you it's good to have you my friend thank you welcome to the channel it's great to be on the Tim to Saint SAS so I have to ask you I know you're a big fan of your Converses you wear them a lot but you've also started wearing the Adidas sambas a lot more so which ones do you like more and which ones did you bring today okay so I brought the converse with me today um I feel most at home in them they're the shoe I've worn for the longest the Adidas samples I do like to wear from time to time to change things up and the gazelles but uh yeah it's always the Converse for me gotta stick to the Staples exactly well I'm excited to see what you brought with you but do you think you're going to be able to make nine outfits out of those pieces that will disclaim that have already put nine outfits together at home so I do know I've got nine outfits okay then it's game on game on let's get this started let's go [Music] so my first item is a pair of black or slightly off black they're kind of black they look black to me but they're more like a charcoaly pair of trousers but I think they're one of the most versatile pieces in the wardrobe so yeah that's my first pick for my first item I have the classic Timeless light wash blue jeans these are the loose fit from Abercrombie but they're not actually that loose they're at most I would say a slightly relaxed fit with a straight leg so next I've gone for a pair of Levi's 501 93s in this kind of not quite as light of a wash as Tim's but I'd say a pretty light wash I've cut the bottoms off myself I took them to the tailor and they didn't do a job I was that happy with so I hacked off the bottoms myself okay for my second item I have got these gray relaxed trousers from Zara these are going to be my jack of all trades extremely versatile piece and they actually come with a matching suit jacket okay so next I've got a regular fitting brush cotton tea from Cars I love the way these fit you can tuck them in easily you can wear them out the only downside I will say is uh you do get that stuff stuck to it because of the brush cotton so a little downside we've got some Lin rollers just in case I also brought one just in case you probably guessed it my number three is this gray relaxed blazer from Zara it is the magic suit jacket that that goes with the previous trousers you'll see very shortly that it does have a more relaxed fit compared to the more classic slim fit that most Suits come in which is a silhouette that I've been enjoying experimenting with a lot more recently I've got an arcat off-white t-shirt here white can sometimes be a bit too bright I suppose so they are fights just toning it down a little bit I love the fit of this it's nice quality it's actually a heavyweight t-shirt but it doesn't feel that heavy weight I suppose it's quite soft yeah I like that color this is what you're wearing right now right now for a monochromatic outfit yeah perfect for item number four I have one of my favorite items in my wardrobe you know it already I just cannot have a video where I don't include the aerism oversized tea I'm not surprised to see this one to be honest it looks good on you Tim so is this my fifth item I think it's my fifth item uh fifth item the blue flannel from Porter James Sports uh it's got a nice crop on it it goes with the kind of blue well I've got one other item that's blue goes with that yeah I think it gives off a very spring sort of feels the second most versatile top in my opinion is simply the white tank top or as the Brits would say here the the vest is that is that correct yeah I've also heard singlet is that a thing or is that um I think I heard someone say it the other day but I I know it as a best I haven't really heard many people call it a thing there but um yeah I'm not sure okay okay well the white tank top also from Uniqlo so for my sixth item it's a sweatshirt that I I just wear it a lot so I thought I had to include it in this video but it's the vobs gray sweatshirt it's it's got a slight crop to it as well so it adds a nice shape to the outfit my item number six is this black short sleeve shirt from Florence Black this is my favorite shirt in my wardrobe and I've met the founder Finn great guy and I really admire the level of tension and detail that he puts in his designs so really great piece I've heard a lot about Florence Black I've actually included them in some videos but I've never actually seen one of their pieces live so uh yeah I'm quite interested to see it yeah it feels really nice yeah 100 Wall so it gives a nice like heavyweight feel to it nice piece yeah I really like it so the next piece I've got the last clothing item I've got is this black jacket from Porter James Sports it's a simple black jacket from the front but a bit of a party at the back so uh we've got yeah Porter James Sports I haven't actually read it but um yeah you can see it for yourselves just there item number seven for me is a bit of a wild card because I feel like the weather here in the UK is so unpredictable that even in summer even in Spring sometimes the temperatures just drop out of nowhere which is why I like to have a good knitwear piece in my wardrobe and I think there's no knitwear more versatile than the turtleneck this piece here is from fear of God it cost me an arm and a leg but honestly it's such high quality the fabric feel feels incredible the silhouette is amazing it does feel incredible by the way yeah it does I've got a well-loved and well-worn pair of Converse Chuck 70s I think these go with everything they're my most worn shoes so I had to have them in this video an absolute classic I also kept my last two slots for shoes the first of which are these black square toe Chelsea boots from our Legacy whenever I want to look more elegant a bit more Chic I tend to wear black boots so these were a no-brainer for me so for my final item I've got a pair of black boots as well but unlike Tim I've gone for a pair with laces because I've tried to wear the pants that you've got there I love them but I don't feel they suit me ever so I find the combat Style with the laces just suit me better here I've got a pair from Veron they're made of Apple leather I like the little text detail here on the side at first I thought they were like pangai yeah yeah it doesn't look similar because they do that sort of text but yeah but yeah that was actually one of the one of the selling points for me I did really like that detail I saved the best for last white sneakers of course the most versatile shoe in my opinion I wear these so much that they were getting quite scuffed up so I had to get them clean last week for this video shout out to the seam thank you for uh making these white again I also agree with him white trainers are probably the most versatile I've only gone for black because they go with my outfits more but um yeah I have to say probably the white trainer what are your usual white sneakers actually um I've got the high tops in white the same as those and then I've got the Reebok Club c85s and what's the other paragraph I used to wear common projects a lot but not so much these days so yeah I mainly I feel like we've all had that thing yeah definitely I used to wear um Oliver Cabell like those minimal trainers okay I think it's fair to say we both have some really solid items in our rotation but now it's time for the more difficult part it's time to test our styling skills and make nine outfits each out of those nine items Bring It On [Music] white T-shirt first keeping things light sort this hair out of it okay so this is outfit number one I've kept things really simple base layer to work with because it's quite a simple outfit I have got the raw sort of finish to the bottom of the trousers if you wanted to you could just cuff them up a bit it just adds a little bit of something else to the uh to a very simple look I love a good classic simple outfit it works hey look we're matching and I must say you want an excellent choice of colors great minds think alike they do we have the Abercrombie jeans uniclo oversized tea and The Trusted white sneakers just a very solid base on top of which you can build off and go into different directions with the rest of your look add on a jacket you can switch things up something I would wear on an everyday basis I really like the wash of the jeans as well really nice wash and the fits perfect as well I'm gonna go for something a little bit darker now well quite a lot darker black a little bit Smart in the day like this go out for dinner just tucked in the t-shirts a few things you need some time to make it look a little bit smarter okay let's try something a bit smarter now this is outfit number two gray suit a bit more relaxed as I was saying um as opposed to the more classic slim fit that most Suits come in it has that more oversized slightly relaxable way it's not like incredibly baggy or anything this is typically something that I would wear to a smart casual kind of event when you want to look a bit more Chic a bit more sophisticated that's the kind of outfit that I would wear nice pair on the trousers as well again not too baggy not too slim just as you said nice relaxed fit nice jacket man I've gone for the same base layer as the first outfit so I've got the light blue jeans on white T-shirt and I've just thrown on this jacket and put on a pair of boots instead of the converse I've just cuffed up the bottom of the trousers because I feel the boots are a little bit edgy and the other trousers cuffed up make it look a little bit edgier what I'm doing okay all right okay switch up the vibe for this one [Music] up the vibe for the top half so we switched out the t-shirt for the Uniqlo tank top and put on this beautiful short sleeve shirt from Florence Black I love that it has those three quarter sleeves really gives this almost japanese-like aesthetic to it I love the way the collar sits as well it's nice and sturdy I like a sturdy color on shirts like that okay so that's had a pop of color kinda what's the most colorful item you own uh I think it's a red version of this this uh I think is the only other thing I've got that's not blue gray white aura or something like that thank you so outfit number four very casual outfit this one a pop of color well as as colorful as I get through flour it's got a nice crop length boxy fit as well I just got the same Levi's on again I actually really like the cut on that flannel okay outfit number four still keeping the same trousers they're really super versatile we've been able to do three back-to-back outfits with a completely different vibe with the same trousers on the top we have the hero God turtleneck or simple monochromatic all gray outfit like the uh neck as well it's not too high where you have to fold it over it just sits up on its own and uh yeah it looks great okay on to outfits number five now but let us know in the comments who do you think is winning the challenge so far whose outfits have been better okay so outfit number five I really like the fit of this t-shirt it's kind of relaxed depleted trousers add a bit more smartness to the look you could have worn Converse as well with this outfit in my opinion the black and white Converse would have gone well with the off black charcoal trousers with the uh white top this is another way that I like to wear the Blazer a lot more casual obviously pairing it with the denim the black Boot and the tank top or vest I love the addition of the uh distressing on the boots because the contrast of the boots you can really see it stand out a bit more so we're keeping the same base here I'm just throwing on a jacket so outfit number six we've got the same base as the last outfit and all I've done is thrown on the black Porsche James sports jacket because this is all neutral colors you could throw on any color jacket here if you like more color throw on a brighter color jacket I don't tend to do that so here yeah I've just gone black and simple you know what I've learned about you Harry today you don't like extremes you like your off-whites your off blacks but not the full lights in full one no no two two bright and too dark just keep it somewhere in the middle the full new one exactly [Music] okay now for number six we're going back to the full suit look it's at this time with the turtleneck inside and the sneakers to make it it's a bit a bit more casual a bit more every day but still still she can put together you can also button it up like this now your dinner ready I don't wear suits often but you've really shown me today how versatile they are literally you can wear it with anything we need to get you a suit Harry we need to get used to it do you think you'd go for a wider suit or something Slimmer because I do notice like a lot of your clothes are slightly on the more tapered side yeah I go for me personally Slimmer um I'm just more comfortable in swimmer fits but um I think the oversized look looks great on you would you ever try a Slimmer fit as well on a suit yeah I don't mind it I have a black tux for like the really smart Black Tie events and that one is obviously Slimmer because it has to be that's just more of a traditional type of outfit where you gotta gotta stick to the rules of tailoring but for the more casual suit like this I don't mind playing around okay I'm gonna go for something a little bit more casual thank you this is something that I put on when I'm in a rush I don't want to think too much about what I'm wearing I just want to put something on quickly and get out of the house I've got a bit of a cropped jumper from barbs love the proportions of it ruler first and all that stuff I've got the white T-shirt just broken out sometimes I wouldn't have that I just tuck it in and then uh just have a bit of a neat to finish I think because this outfit's so casual you can have it hanging out then we've got the converse and the Levi's on again yeah very casual very easy to wear let's go introducing the Steve Jobs look you've got to see this thing in person it is one of the most beautiful designs you've ever seen except slightly more relaxed we've got the relaxer jeans and the turtleneck with that more oversized silhouette very cozy very casual simple everyday look how do you feel about your turtlenecks you like the turtles I don't wear them personally I think they look great on you but uh it's a little bit sometimes a little too smart for my liking fair enough what do you do in Winter then to cover your neck winter I freeze or put a hoodie like with a high neckline on it or something a scarf if I need it scarves can be a bit annoying as well though because they blow around so that's where a turtle neck is is really good yeah I should have listened to Tim here and forwarded my trousers down the crease but I haven't so hopefully they're still gonna look alright foreign base again and then the shirt for a pop of color the boots I feel like I could have gone for the converse here because it's kind of a casual look with the flannel I think for me for my personal style I probably would have gone through the converse to go with the flannel to go with the the more casual Vibe of it yeah but it works with the boots as well for sure yeah when I was putting together the outfits in the first place I did have the converse as the original shoe toy so I changed it last minute so maybe I should have stuck with the converse what what made you change your mind wider boots I think it's kind of like a bit of the lumberjack I could see that with the lace up yeah I can see that and then I kind of thought the uh because the all-black base there's kind of a bit smarter as well so the boots I quite like that just to clean black with the boots at the unknown like wipers in there but then I would have picked up the weight of the shirt quite nicely I feel so either work but um yeah I think I should have gone to the converse maybe so maybe if you're gonna do this outfit maybe think about going with the compass [Music] oh [Music] ah I go sneakers or boots for this one of your boots maybe boots get a bit Sharp tied the black in Easy zip up see this Harry yeah okay here we go for outfit number eight kept the jeans swap the top and the shoes for shirt and Boots a little less Steve Jobs a little bit more uh classy rocker but I think it works I think you definitely did the right thing choosing the boots over the trainers with this one I think it works perfectly with that shirt yeah I was in between but then because of the black of the shirt I think it just ties in better I agree we're about to see the final outfit from Mr Harry has [Music] okay so the final fit I would call this like uh my milk run out there where run out of milk need to pop out to the shops yeah these trousers are quite a smart looking pair of trousers but I've really dressed them down and I'd say they look very casual here the um casual jumper Converse have really dressed down this looks just shows you how versatile a pair of smart black trousers are I feel like this is a very you outfit yeah like I almost feel like I've seen this before in one of your videos or one of your thumbnails somewhere yeah I think you probably have I think this is this like sums me up perfectly very simple pieces but letting the fit do the talking kind of thing but very much not your standard milk Crown outfit probably the classiest out of all the nine outfits but I wanted to show that with these same pieces with which we've been making mostly smart casual or even casual outfits you can still put together a really Chic elegant outfit that you can wear to a formal event to really show the versatility of all of these pieces I also really like the what you've done with the vest just having that vest poking out a little bit just adds some nice contrast to the black shirt and the rest of the outfit there you go nine items nine outfits what'd you think of the challenge Harry so I really enjoyed it first of all it made packing to come see you really easy I only needed to pack nine items but secondly I think it's really easy to get swayed by Trends and this just goes to show if you choose the right pieces in your wardrobe you can do a lot with them and they can go a long way so do focus on Timeless pieces that you can mix and match and yeah it's going to make your life a lot easier I agree and I also love seeing the differences in the fashion as well yeah because even though we're both into that more minimal style I think it's interesting to see how we might gravitate towards different Silhouettes and style the pieces differently as well yeah I agree yeah you kind of go for the more relaxed and I'm a bit more
