no what am I thinking hey Marty now [Music] I have no memory of this place hey fellow gamers are you ready for some mind-numbing gameplay oh good you are what about you bar now sounds like something you'd say I need friends was a television program that came out on PBS starting in 1992 starring Barney the purple dinosaur who preaches friendliness love and good vibes you also have some of the other dinosaurs that I completely forgot about because they're not important like Barney like Baby Bop riff everybody everybody remembers riff right and of course BJ the Procera tops ha yeah I'll tell you what though don't type his name into Google without typing Barney first that's what you call a pro tip for you kids out there tell me I'm right Barney Barney quickly became one of the most popular children's icons ever created a dinosaur sensation even to the point that it was starting to drive people absolutely insane the character has some parents up in arms because of overbearing niceness and the almost cult-like hold that he has on kids cold like cold huh now a minute when I was a little Jew if I was one of those kids maybe it had something to do with that theme song I love you [Music] after becoming an uncle recently look at this look at this pic of me and my knees she's oq' it got me thinking about what I was into when I was a kid and you bet your britches that I was into Barney and just like with any kids property that sees any semblance of success one you gotta have a lot of toys you're gonna have video games there are some point-and-click website things out there oh hi so nice to see you here come to the world of imagination and welcome to super Dee okay shut up shut up in this vid you mote game they play music and then immediately contract Alzheimer's and forget what instruments they had so it's your job to give him back the instruments they were just playing oh boy you can't do it can't lift it you can do it it only takes about half a second before the dinosaurs start showing you what instruments they were playing as if you like some goldfish who's forgetting things every five seconds Shh man I don't even know these guys these guys look like they're lining up for the police to come take their pictures you know I'm saying but today I primarily want to focus on console-based Barney games so Barney hide-and-seek game you [Music] ah coming in if there's a Saiga Barney Saiga come on and you gotta say it like this imagination I don't want to be rude and Barney taught me not to be but Barney wasn't God's name is wrong with your face it's scary okay hints for grownups hey that's me Barney is looking for five friends in five presents in each level move Barney left and right and use the buttons to find friends jump and play shouldn't this be more like hints for kids not adults like the kids like who are gonna play the game I mean I'm just saying okay so here's the story the most postmodern racially diverse group of kids that were hand selected by branch show up at the exact same moment by the dinosaur whose soul was trapped inside this doll awakens and he was like a little tired you know we're not being alive so he closes his eyes for a second and everyone flees in terror [Music] oh that's not terrifying am i right Barney Barney starts chasing them to the forest where they hid No so Barney's hide-and-seek is exactly what you'd expect it to be again where um and to do that you go you can go in left or right direction you get the juice this game is pretty much like a point-and-click adventure game without all the really cool and unique ways to die and all the wild Barney comments on literally everything he walks past he never stops doing this so the first thing I do is is press a button and I swear to god this is what he does guys he just loves so much okay there's actually only one button that you use throughout the game it just changes depending on what you're next - if you're not immediately next to something you can blow kisses towards things like butterflies cool the object of the game is to collect all the children and presents and you do that by doing it some look and this is what happens when you find a child [Music] oh my god what's happening why is it so creepy it really just honestly looks like Barney is snapping the poor child's neck it's just so awkward looking even the children don't look directly at him when they're hugging him I mean Barney you know these kids right I mean you're not just like hugging random kids over here without their parents and and lead them up into the forest right right throughout the stage you'll find a lot of things to interact with that repeat heavily and you'll have to walk around and platform to find all the presents and kids I mean there isn't even a designated button to jump though they don't trust you with that instead you have to be in the exact right locations for Barney to jump and if there's any hazards that all Barney stops you out right uh duh excuse me game what do you take me for a filthy cash wheel I mean the game will actually play itself if you leave it alone Barney does a stupid little dance and then he just starts walking you walk the whole way and finish the level if you let him you'll do a lot of silly things throughout the levels like right on clouds and balloons and Barney sometimes even gives you terrible advice we can hug the bear [Music] [Applause] there's four different stages the forest the music place the farm and the sea each level is pretty much the same thing and realistically it doesn't get any harder the only things that change are the interactable objects and animals and the music and speaking of the music some of it is just so bad I mean Barney's voice compression is terrifying but at least you can tell it's Barney so it's kind of forgivable but this rendition of mary had a little lamb sounds like a bootleg rendition of itself try it try frickin playing playing through that I had to play through that the weirdest world probably is the second one where all the music guys are I mean I probably won't play that instrument because to play you have to blow on his but look at this little piano likewise she's so happy about and this guy just beats himself with a stick if you let him I mean I can't tell if he's surprised or just in pain at the end of each of the stages Barney counts out the amount of things that you found none of it really matters though because you could just walk to the end of the stage leave all the kids behind and get a zero and then you get an ending and I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter like it it's just like it really doesn't it doesn't matter it doesn't matter what time you know Barney I've always wondered are you an educated man leave my hand to play over you know what's weird is that this is basically the only official Barney game for a console unless you got one of these babies this is a vivid even smile the sexiest console you ever laid your eyes on AC adapters are a thing of the past now with battery support holy crap you can play two player okay so this abomination is called a V smile they were pretty popular edutainment video game consoles back in the early 2000s put out by the VTech company there were also a lot of different iterations of these consoles including a motion device console a portable one and more I mean I don't even really think I know what I'm looking at here it's like a leprechaun ate a Super Nintendo and threw this back up I didn't just look at this controller like what is this I bought this with the money I have officially started of the smile collection of video games Scooby Doo that's a Blue's Clues game right there oh Kars that's pretty good and of course we wouldn't be talking about it if there wasn't a Barney game I'll tell you guys right now this thing feels incredibly cheap smile so this is I need the land of make-believe oh god now I actually have to play it don't I one day Barney picks up a book which tells about the wonderful land of make-believe so Barney land of make-believe is an adventure game where you play as Barney and walk from puzzle to puzzle I use the term puzzle loosely here as it's obviously a kids game and the things that stop you from progressing are usually simplistic in nature for example you'll have to follow this bird he drops numbers and you you literally just pick them up [Music] the weirdest part is that everything in the area doesn't even let you interact with it it's like this giant purple dinosaur is walking down the street and this lady right here could even give a crap even when I walk right up next to her she doesn't even know I'm there oh it's that no hugs for the kids Barney not gonna you're gonna try and snap their necks there's literally a part of this level where you have to wait to cross the street let's see how long that takes oh my god okay I guess let's just full-on stop the game it's not even the only time the game makes you wait just take a look at this move the joystick to pick an item you'd like for your trip okay I'll take the camera could you uh could you maybe move and move a little faster I have to buy all these items from you are you kidding me the camera costs five coins press ENTER to count the coins one by one to buy the one by one oh god no [Applause] after we buy all the items from the slowest man in the world we actually go up in air balloon in this game um I mean let's be honest doesn't matter Super Bee number after we land the air balloon our mission becomes feeding all the animals that are in our way and there's a bunch of a man I mean you got the bunny the dog the elephant the monkey don't these guys know how to feed themselves I'm just sitting you're gathering food and feeding them and after all your generosity what do they do they just walk up ahead and get back in your way again which animal makes this sound what eventually Barty and friends make their way to the castle let's beat the princess in her room and collect some presents to take to her wait we're collecting clothes and we're taking them to her room why are these called presents if they were in the castle already weren't they just on display he's probably already belonged to the princess and you know what that means she's probably naked in the castle you'll have a few things blocking your path you have this pathway puzzle where you have to go on exactly the right squares this matching minigame and this weird color-coordinated ascent up the stairs it's actually the only time you use these colored buttons in the entire game eventually we make it far enough to get into the throne room and meet the princess also the end game of this game is to play dress-up with the princess I don't think it's a good idea to have Barney in the room he's got a weird face okay so we finished dressing up the princess and now let's take a picture together oh we're gonna take up we're gonna take a picture I guess cool pick Barney adventure play wait that's it hey just dance well that was a disappointment what have you got to say for yourself Barney I will never love again well that's extra sad coming from you I mean you were being a little creepy earlier though but I want in the video on such a summer note so I think I just had the best idea [Music] hey everybody thank you so much for watching if you liked
