today's the day of the death metal charger rides again got the 3d three humming again we lowered the car back down because we finally clearanced the drive shaft tunnel and we made our own adjustable opinions number put a new harness bar in there so that we could slide the seats back so that I can fit in there and yeah it's welded to the old quarter-inch thick water pipe rollcage already I think we're gonna take the single lunch today death metal charger has a 383 Mopar big-block built by Daniel Basheer's it's backed by a charm Eck t56 Magnum 6-speed automatic 6-speed manual gearbox sorry that we installed using a kit from silver Sport transmissions essentially we call this thing death metal because it does not drive down the road straight it turns left really well but it is a handful Joe Barry grabbed I don't fitzy body whatever is the longer car he grabbed the torsion bar adjustment boxes out of that and welded it behind the stock crossmember in this car so right here is where the torsion bar would normally go through and it would stop right about here where we got these longer torsion bars and then welded the adjustment boxes behind the stock crossmember I ended up going back in there with Tony Angelo and plating it cuz it looks scary and so it's got longer torsion bars I'm not sure what this sway bar is out of but it's not held in very well in fact it had like safety wire to make sure it wouldn't was actually broken off anyone fall apart I guess I don't know the bushings are shot it's ridiculously low to the ground these are CCI headers and a milodon oil pan the TTI headers we almost drug through during the last roadkill shoot that we did with this car well the only one and when we got home we lifted the car back up we adjusted the torsion bars to raise the front suspension and then we raised the back of the car up because the leaf spring mounts were actually adjustable the shackles were so we looked at the car up to make it a little more drivable now we're gonna lower the car back down and clearance wherever we can to make the car more fun we also call it death metal because it has a sketchy and I mean stretchy roll cage the cage is made out of water pipe quarter inch thick wall water pipe that is I think stick welded together I don't know we've cut a bunch of bars out of it [Music] but essentially like your head is right next to the main hoop and the halo it's really not the safest thing ever one day I'll cut it out I've left it in there just because of time but one day I'll cut it out and redo it because it's just it's just not safe it's really not but I love the car like the car is amazing looking like I'll never change that steering wheel like you know I'll never change the gauges we added a painless wiring harness in the car because there wasn't a scrap of wiring in it when I got it nor was there a motor or a trans but we've kept as much of the original Joe very month as we could like the eight lug Firestone wheels still on there the willies Timken rear axle which is a banjo style I think axle and something you would find in like 48 to 53 Willy's trucks that thing's ridiculous like it howls it's really loud you can only get service parts for it you can't upgrade it it's an open differential with 488 gears which are just ridiculous on the street especially with a 26 inch tall tire which is what's on here got Joe Barry's homemade panhard bar back there which is really short like the car is built with a cutting torch basically and Joe did some really unique things and remarkably when you look at it you kinda want to shuffle but the car does turn left really well yeah that's the leaf spring protruding into the trunk on a set of homemade shackles that are adjustable we've added a couple more holes or rather they've been they've added one hole we added I think another one during roadkill it was way up here right so right now we're going to lower the car again we're gonna unbolt that and move the leaf spring probably up to here because I think this is where I had it yep that'll get the car lower by about four inches in the back and look better then we'll readjust the torsion bars in the front lower the front align it as best we can and then we're gonna go under the car and cut out probably that area right there because that is where the pinion rotates and the driveshaft hits the floor under acceleration so we're gonna have to trim that out I think okay take some baseline measurements if you believe our crooked offender we are 42 inches off the ground right here and we have four inches between that part of the tire and that part of our galvanized bondo'd riveted on fender flare easy I'm not judging I'm just saying that's what it is one day we need to make our own galvanized Wando finger player for the rear keep the trend going yeah and on this side 41 inches so the front is higher okay so don't assume that the fenders are level or that the chassis is straight we've got 36 and 3/4 over here on what do you measuring I'm measuring 2 right here you crazy man 38 then this side is higher than this side how about in multiple areas where else did you check so my main measurement was I was Mumbai I wouldn't know when the fenders does 1 by the chassis right here see that might not work because when I got this car Joe Barry had cut out all the inner fenders well in a car like this the inner fender is the structure of the front end of the car so it's entirely possible the frame rails have bent upward okay we put this tube in here to brace it because when we were jacking the car up you could Jack the front of the car up and it was bending the car in half so there's no guarantee we got him as level as we could there's no guarantee you there level okay yeah so you guys out there with you know Dodge Chargers don't hack out your inner fenders unless you roll cage the car first one of the things I like about this car is how easy it is to lower it because it's built like a mini truck or rather mini trucks are built like this car and there's torsion bars so all you have to do let me flip the camera on here is grab your impact and what's eye socket 15 16 16 and adjust this bolt up and down to lower the car or raise the car alright bring it down exactly three inches forty-two now you're at 40 and a half keep going keep going little more okay that's 38 and 3/4 go go up just a hair okay so that's 39 we've dropped it three inches we're cool oh he's so much better so much better another 3/4 another quarter keep going more there you go now this all right we've just dropped the front of the chargers three inches and it took about two minutes to do it [Music] now it's tough right there right all right let's drop the back this is not as easy but still easier than most cars how to lower your 68 Charger step one build the most ridiculous set of shackles ever and then torch the floor of your car up step two use a sketchy way to lift the car up into the air involving wood and two different jacks step three pull cowbell all the way to the top hole and then devise other ways to keep the rest of the car from falling apart as it drags across the ground so let's probably do this one for a drop the hammer right oh dude it's gonna be so low hmm didn't drop some cellphone yep push down on it though okay there we go dude you see how stiff it was there are no suspension one light top hole no bueno because the leaf springs actually hit the floor of the car and let's not cut any more of the car out there's not a lot left over there and you said the pinion snubber is actually it's sitting on it right now yeah okay yeah let's go down one hole and then clearance the metal of opinions number and maybe even clearance that right there a little bit for lease training we should [Music] boom see how stuff is so crazy dude like that lower tube is 3-inch pipe down there like straight up schedule 40 mm-hmm this is this is 2 inch incredible but dude I mean 1968-69 guy in a barn did what he could have what he had man oh it's pretty graphic this is like really heavy look oh this is for you 30 or 40 pounds is nice [Music] every time you hit the gas the rear end housing rotates upwards and our yoke was hitting the floor there pretty badly let's hear the driveshaft got grooved so we're gonna reuse that portion on the floor and then we're gonna make a pinion snubber little bolt into the top of the floor there and point down just made a new pinion snubber for the death metal charger pretty basic design outer sleeve you know adjustable bolt holes this will bolt into the floor of the car right above the rear axle and that is a rubber bump stop right there we can go like three inches lower yeah all you do is pull that top bolt out and you gotta just gap between the bump stop on the top of the rear axle housing which is gonna rotate upwards under acceleration this will stop that feel safer ER because we have a legit roll bar in there not some water pipe how do you the arms bars dope floor is patched look at that that is our adjustable opinion snubber and our nascar shift boot shot hole covers yeah sket seats are in I mean hello one seat away and bolting the door skins back on from going cruising with your new cup holder you got to be drunk you got to think it clashes nicely I love that like completely clashes with the rusty water pipe straightness and I'm totally cool with it I can't wait to drive with leg room when I sat in this before my chest was pretty much up against this too you know yeah so the bar was right straight across like it didn't go back by this at all so it was a dead straight across so the seat was right here so it's fine for me but somebody you know yes six inches taller than me there you go I am six inches taller than you aren't I I mean give or take we're about to take some of the death out of death metal on the left our old worn out steering box that had an unbelievable amount of play in hit yeah and on the right a brand new unit from Flaming River that summit racing was kind enough to overnight to us thank you this is gonna change the car completely like when you drive the car you're constantly fighting the steering wheel I mean the whole time it's never-ending it will actually wear you out so like I this is a part I'm most excited about right here so essentially what we had was we had a parachuting box without power steering hooked to it that was also wore out right we're now going to a manual box and using this adaptor to get the splines and it extends it the right length so this is a lot longer here firm feeling that's the adaptor Flaming River box or ca0 courtesy of Summit Racing whoo overnighted it because they have that kind of stuff in stock which is red yep it's a manual steering box to par steering column adapter that's what it is all right let's do so for those at homes that are saying it's not the steering box is the alignment you're right you're right the alignment is a mess it has a ridiculous amount of negative camber but that's because the car has been lowered so much and we're out of adjustment on these factory eccentrics it really needs a longer upper control arm to bring the alignment back in which at some point will fix that just not today this is what it looked like if death-metal could do wheelies um check it back up we'll put one in the back I'll Jack it up we'll put one on the tires there's no travel at all yeah what did you do you lowered it too much we got other jacks we got the rejects so close you can't let this stop us the transporters here and well I want to drive the car she's gonna need an oval exhaust system this thing is great hammered okay you almost can't see daylight back there I see you know the bottom of the collectors have been ground flat from driving it but there's maybe two inches yeah they're your driving lights are dope first test drive we can get very far I've got about this far why because these plastic couplers for joining radiator hoses they're not very sturdy once you get him up to 220 degrees so yeah I got that hot because somebody forgot to turn on the electric fan who was that person we as a team we forgot to turn it away yep there's the culprit right there we need some rat a kitty litter you're feeding the chickens plastic Union a solution in three quarter pipe and Dog fab speed rolling tool just cut that to length we need a bead at each end so that those won't slip off of it and we'll be good to go [Applause] I love this crappy old guard [Music] it's such a new car now color I mean it's a different car dude dude the steering box totally helped me you have to have your hands on the wheel open literally they just let go and it just drives itself now before you're just like this the whole time you're fighting it even it still has 10 degrees of negative camber and it doesn't care and no more rubbing the driveshaft now we just need to build oval exhaust and custom headers so that we can drive it this low or lower without a dragon photograph and we need a phone charger so we can go long distances they have a cup holders now who you gonna call ghostbusters Triple Eight look at this line up vanishing paint Death Metal general mayhem rowdy rowdy rampage I don't know if that's the name of the car I just thought it might be cool [Applause] [Music] seeing two 68 Chargers next to each other really drives home the fact that flared fenders are perfect on these cars as soon as I get home I'm gonna make some more galvanized sheet metal fender flares to the back come on [Applause] oh man it's a big day for the Steve Austin is about it's less death yeah [Music] yeah and the taillights still work little things little things no matter [Music] what you think dosage I don't know who's either Frankie you put a new dent in the fender yes [Music] [Music] there how we gonna go to the car show now [Music] we're down transports here and I saw one grabs it [Music] [Applause] [Music] you [Applause]
