Baker Red Helps A Mourning Family | Pit Bulls and Parolees | Animal Planet

this morning T and I are meeting with a couple who are looking to adopt one of our pit bulls hi Hi how are you Hi good I'm Tommy Tommy thanks to meet you my name is Tommy and I live with my lovely fiance Kristen and we are excited to see our new family member so you travel from Pittsburgh oh Pittsburgh okay last night uh just felt like Christmas I was so excited I just could not sleep it's just very important to us to get a new dog and welcome someone into our family tell me a little bit about your situation I've had pit bulls on my life that was our family pet okay um our family dog Ike passed away um 9 months ago he was 13 well week a week away he was a week away from his 13th birthday Ike was uh a run and he was with me through thick and thin and he was the best dog a girl could ever ask for what kind of dog was Ike like what was his personality like he was just very chill he got along with everyone he had really bad allergies we call him Slimer he was just an adorable dog it was really hard for us when he passed away so it's taken us some time to be ready to get another dog and we're just ready we're excited and you know that our family member in the house and can't wait them to okay ever since Ike passed away there's been a void in our heart took a little time and you know we we gathered our thoughts but we're open-minded and we're excited to see what dogs we can meet we're ready we're looking for a dog that when we come home that's just as excited to see us as we're excited to see him and just make that dog's life as happy as we wanted to make our life happen you know what I mean oh sweet we lived with Ike for seven years Christen trained him uh he even do hand signals oh that's great so Tommy and Kristen want a dog that they can snuggle with but also that is sharp and focused you know to be able to learn the little tricks they want to teach it so they're going to need a dog that has the desire and the drive to do all of these things well I think what we did is we picked out some dogs that are compatible with what you want you know I would have to say they're anywhere from chill to maybe a little bit busier so we've lined up a few of our top students and hopefully one of them will make an impression on these two and become the next member of this loving family the first one we're going to bring out is Swift he came out of a program that we do out in a place called assumption Parish um was where we have what we call our swamp dog program just a stray brought in all right Swift sft over there go say hi hi Swifty how you doing you're sweet huh you're ad ad Swift was a beautiful dog and he was excited to meet people what are we doing right now no you're flirting with the wrong person yeah unfortunately Swift was more interested in hanging out with t than the potential adopters come here s come here s come here baby we want a snuggle butt like a dog that sits with us couch so it's important that the dog can fit in with our family and be comfortable with us okay so the next dog we're going to bring out is [Music] EJ EJ is a little blue dog that actually um one of our guys that works for me Earl uh went and rescued so last year Earl got a call from his old neighborhood that there was some neighborhood kids being really mean to a puppy they were throwing rocks at it so Earl went out there and scooped him up and I named him EJ which stands for Earl Jr EJ way he walks he comes in freaking hug EJ is very smart he is always up for a challenge and he's just a very busy dog not not he smell good EJ's a gorgeous dog and I think he has a lot of potential especially to be trained to do wonderful things but we just think he needs a little more work yeah he could be just a little bit kind of bratty pushy nothing nothing aggressively just very bratty pushy EJ is a great dog and he will make somebody someday a wonderful companion but he could be pretty pushy and I think that may have put them off a little bit let's go go put him up bye EJ so it's going to take that right dog to make sparks fly for Tom and Kristen you know they want a dog that's outgoing at fun but at the same time they want him just to be able to just to chill so the next dog we're going to bring out is Baker red he was a stray right here in New Orleans you know from the moment we got Baker red at that cement plant can you just waited for us oh hi he always seems to be the party waiting to happen he is extremely bright agile and he is definitely not shy you know he's the guy that walks in the room and just everybody notices him oh my God he is such a character that we featured him in our calendar shoot and he has made several public appearances for us Baker red um he's a fun dog he's like the class clown he he is just one of those dogs that captivates you and steals your heart and as much as I would love to keep him actually for myself his true calling is to be with a family of his own and we're just hoping that this is his moment hi Boby wow you're beautiful nice to meet you yeah he is definitely nice to meet you he's the guy like he's pretty funny he's pretty fun softest can be he's beautiful and he's just he's just perfect come on good you making those goooo eyes at me oh you do he's he's a fun dog he is a fun dog not up here that's not what we're doing a big really really just bed's temperament his personality he seemed very uh bubbly curious um and just someone that I think that would fit our house and my personality especially fun yeah yeah he he's hyper he's just busy he's just busy it's exciting to see a young dog that has spirit in life and that's important to us Ador there's just something about Baker Ed that just captivated us and we just he charms us we want him you like a butt scratch you like a butt scratch I think anyone lucky enough to have Baker red in their life is someone who's going to realize what an amazing dog he is you're adorable Kristen mentioned that she's really into training so we're going to do a little Focus testing with him and just get a little bit of a a taste uh to see how he'll do with this come bu here here you know if all works out and Baker red is a quick study we'll um get packed up and ready to hit the road and head out to the Steel City be [Music] be H puppy hi I'm been a he's already not used to the cold and I mean he's he's not really a nervous dog I don't know when we first like walked in he like froze Baker red is really energetic so I even was like wo this isn't like you it was really bizarre maybe we can s them free and then see yeah we sniff around [Music] buddy huh you good look around come here come here buddy what you got good boy there's the dog that we all know as soon as they let him run wild off the leash um he just had a great time hey no he's just checking it all out this is like an obstacle course for him come here sit sit good boy boy I think he'll be really good for training yeah he'll he'll probably pick it up really quick and you should start with not let having him jump all over your tables and stuff that was part for the course he's Fearless he's really Fearless it's going to be a good time here he's a bit of a brat but he has good intentions you want to check out the inside come on come on come on yeah maybe he wants water I'll get some water bringing Baker red in the house he just ran around and got into his toys and onto the couch and onto the chair come on buddy come on puppy oh you're little jump we're just so excited for him to be here we got big hearts and I know he does and it it's a great match all right what do you think you home buddy yeah you [Music] home
