Baer Plays ISLANDERS (Ep. 1)

here we go this is Islanders I've already unlocked several achievements cuz I'm a god so sorry you won't be able to see as many of those fresh new lands no not a sponsored stream I just well Ryan actually mentioned this at the end of the NL SS yesterday so I it piqued my interest I checked it out and I was like this seems pretty freakin fun I'm gonna play this you love the color palette yeah I like the way it looks too it's a it's a pleasing aesthetic alright so there's that pretty basic tutorials right and now we're just set loose and our brand new Island I kind of like to scope things out of the beginning at least in my limited experience I like to do so it looks like we've got some auxilary islands out here not really much else to speak of a lot of open ocean otherwise not having a lot to work with here somewhat rav we're a bit a bit oh now let's see if I move around how we doing oh yeah why does that happen that's weird Miami look at this Oman sorry we've been good on this for a bit wonder why it's behaving strangely now just want to make sure burn Shen all of twitch just had a seizure was it not me then well that would be nice to have the guilt alleviated beatniks with a twelve-months thank you very much as well twitch Prime appreciate it buddy I think we're good all right anyway sorry about that when you begin you select from one of two packs a lumber pack or a farming Packer our first options right now based on what we've got it's not looking like a lumber pack is gonna be all that strong we've only got a few trees so let me start with a farming pack see what we can do it's pretty logical the way things work out at the beginning here but you're gonna get a tutorial here as well the big number over your building shows how many points you'll get for placing in here and the small numbers tell you what influences that score so we're not gonna see any small numbers or it's unlikely right now that we'll see any small numbers because there's really not a lot going on and the map that can influence things all we do get one right here actually so you can see the big number will show us the total amount of points we get the small number next to that is indicating what is influencing that score so placing fields up here not a terrible idea to begin with it's a little awkward but it's only the only thing that's giving us any kind of bonus so it's probably worthwhile and then already I think you may be able to see how things can get a little bit more difficult when you're trying to place a lot of stuff in the future but immediately what you want to recognize is that you're gonna have to consider the bonuses that all these different items provide to the other items that you're going to be placing down as you build a more elaborate city in a more elaborate set of structures so placing these fields down right now is pretty absent-minded but it actually met a lot what'd you do in the beginning in the middle like every single placement you make will have a dramatic impact as simple as it is on the rest of your build now the mill is already one that can introduce some complexities you can hover over the things in the bottom as you can see here to see what sort of bonuses you get from them without having to hover or come over here and hover over the things themselves but already it's looking like it might not honestly be a terrible idea to just go ahead and place the mill up here too we're not even utilizing the main area yet this seems fine to me whenever you reach your score goal by building or filling up this bar you get new buildings and it's game over once you run out of stuff to build pardon me didn't even get a good one wasn't even worth trying to hog it Moo how you doing welcome hey farmer I don't like coffee I'm sorry that's gonna be okay just gonna have to ban ya ya Maude and here can we ban that person's for for his opinion please it's how we roll around here look Carmen so the lumber pack sticks around in fact I'm fairly certain that the lumber pack will be an option until we choose it not a hundred percent on that but I think that is the case Zen with the 20 month streak welcome on back in but appreciate it I forgot how to band sorry but it's fine I don't think we need it so I'm thinking we go at brewing pack considering we still don't have a lot of lumber to take advantage of and here we go we get another field when we're familiar with although we can see here now that we also get bonuses from creating mills statues or sorry mills and other fields so we want to keep in mind that like the things that we built up here are gonna be providing massive bonuses to this field so it's unlikely then we're gonna be putting this thing down here I think it's an almost certainty that and I'm trying to fit it somewhere up in this area unfortunately I place the mill in a position where it doesn't look like I'm gonna be able to benefit from the fields that I place near it due to the position of the statue - so that's unfortunate yeah man this is just it's a little limited this space up here if only it had like a little bit more room like if at all God if that little ledge was in the same or at the same elevation as the rest of it won't be so much better I'm hesitant as well they're really build one here just because it doesn't look like I'm gonna be able to build two so it would just be building one and then just leaving a weird awkward space for something else which it's not like there's nothing that can fit in there it's just that obviously we would prefer to get a second field in there right now so this is just already a little awkward frying dobby and comatose thanks so much for the recent scriptures guys appreciate it this one's great bird wizard yeah it's really good bird is it bird PRD I don't think it's not a question I've never asked the familiar Chad member I think I'm just gonna go ahead and do this for now it's a huge deal to not have a lot of options there not to mention the fact that there are things will acquire later on that should allow us to ideally extend off of this platform here and you'll see more of what I'm talking about as we progress right now right cool good to know the hot fields this is an interesting one the hot fields actually end up impacting a lot of different stuff when you go later into the game so we want to try to build this more than likely along the shoreline are at least along the the edge of the top part here you also want to try to make sure you use as much of the space as possible in my experience so this looks okay the mill of course we want to wait until we've placed all the hot fields down before we place the brewery itself and that way we'll be able to get the biggest possible bonus from it so let's try I don't think we get any kind of natural benefit from these things do it yeah the statue actually would have helped it out but that's okay let's do try to maybe get it along this wall here but that doesn't land doesn't really work I just have to do it horizontally along with this one is parallel and then we could even put the the brewery in that little corner maybe yeah I'm not sure you get the score retroactive Lee I don't think you do I think that's part of the design is that sorry I'm so congested right now I think part of the design is that you have to consider what kind of bonuses you'll get from the things before you place them down right so if you only place one hop field down place the mill and then place the other three hop fields around it I think you'll still get bonuses from the mill or sorry I keep calling this a mill it's a brewery if you place the brewery down yeah so you can see you get four points from the brewery from the hot field but I wonder if the math checks out yeah so you know you get more from the hot fields than you get from the brewery for for the hot fields so I assume then that you get four more points total if you prep if you place all four hop fields down before you place down the brewery the math checks out on that right I'm pretty sure so I'm pretty sure then in that in that consideration you got to math in this chill game I know man I'm sorry it's it's not everything we wanted it to be but it's close anyway yeah that seems like a pretty good way to go about things I think then if we place this here that should be enough space the thing is though you have to be very very very careful in deciding to place things down like this because if you place it and end up putting it in a spot where it doesn't let this fit anymore you can't take it off once you play something it's there for good so you got to be really confident about where you're putting stuff down with that in mind I'm actually gonna even put this just a slight bit over like that and I think that ought to do it yeah that's good so that's a really good start I'd say I really like the way that we've positioned the hop fields here this up here is looking okay too obviously again with the field positioning I'd like to have that a little bit more a more optimal yeah optimal optimal play that's what you'd love to see all right well I think we're gonna have to go with the lumber pack at some point and here's another consideration we have to make with that if we wait even longer with that it's likely that we end up putting buildings and other structures down that's we'll probably knock out the trees that exist so I think we should probably try to put this stuff down while those are still standing I suppose so that being said I said but I guess really the only thing I can try to do is place this a lumberjack that encompasses every single tree and I think that's really gonna be the only benefit we can get if I put the sawmill down first actually I know the sawmill gets a bigger bonus from the lumberjack I think the statue actually makes a big difference though but I don't think I'm gonna be able to put that in range of the statue the only way to be able to do that would be this which is okay in fact we might get another sawmill in the future and I could put this I can put that sawmill up here and I could put the other one over here in that way we don't have to lose any points because if you put one sawmill too close in proximity to another one that's gonna it's gonna give you a penalty so let's go ahead and put this one down here gonna put it put it right in that little tiny awkward spot just to be able to get that last tree and then maybe we'll be able to put a sawmill just kind of out against the edge here that seems like it'll be okay one thing I kind of like about this game is that you don't really have to consider things like walking paths or space between the buildings for people to be able to get through you know typically in city builders you got to consider those kind of things with this it's kind of just like fitting to trauma knows together almost you know it's the different sort of satisfaction let's put another half-filled down you let me put it right here oh yeah that looks good you know I think actually I'm gonna go ahead and box that in yeah just got to scale the cliff to get to work of Assad yeah yeah that was an elaborate way of excusing the positioning of this door more or less you have to t spin the mail only in certain situations now with these fields I'm in a bit of a pickle because as I mentioned there's probably not even space to put these down up here anymore well there is space for one more okay I could do that and that's a pretty good one it's still a little awkward though there's other things that could go into this position we don't have to place the fields yet we could go ahead and unlock another pack and see what options we've got what we got with this what do you guys think city Packers shaman I'm still pretty new to things so it's not like I've really got a a clear vision of which one is gonna work out the best kind of willing to be open to interpretation access to red potions that's pretty it's pretty logical okay I consider this a city builder it's like a drafted synergy format plus a spatial puzzle game that is I mean calling it a city builder seems a little more a little simpler than calling it that right I suppose if you want to be pedantic about it yeah but oh let's see let's go with shaman and see what the shaman gives us another hop field if I if I rotate that him oh I should have see I should have considered this when I was placing down this sawmill it was close to damn it it's really close to fitting in there man it looks like it should actually darn it well I mean we could put one here and that's pretty good too that's not too bad we might even be able to fit something else on this small little area Carlita here's this reminder know I kind of wish I had remembered this too so there's another part of this is the fact that you do get a bonus for having this in range oh look at that though nice that's pretty good yeah you get a bonus for having the the sawmill and range of the lumberjack of course but you don't want to put the lumberjack next to the other one however that worked out just perfectly so I've got this guy somehow in the circle but not this one so optimal gameplay right here on twitch you believe it Tommy I'll lead up my top spot you got it snag that thank you very much for the biddings oh that's nice whoa what is it what do you like some oh it's the flowers I see oh those are good [Music] cool okay so hold on it said what if we did oh man that's so close to be in there so here's the thing shamans don't like to be near those shamans so I want to try to put this into place where I can get the most benefit from the flowers but I'm not gonna have the shamans interact with one another so I think about put this guy in the corner put shaman in the corner and then we go like this get another big bonus that is awesome and then probably not gonna do bad but we could do something like this maybe almost almost able to sneak that one in there again but now that wouldn't really even be a good position for the shaman anyway so might hold onto this one for a second let's see what other kinds of bonuses we can get that's a nice snug little corner for that or unlikely to be able to fit many other kinds of buildings in this place - it's not a bad idea we might do that I'll hold off for a second though now we got three more fields again this is sketchy on the beach on the beach with the shaman you think oh yeah look at that yeah good call that's not a bad idea either let's do that want to +19 pardon me I think we'll have to go ahead and do this get all them hops baby then we got another mil hmm this would work pretty well actually I love this positioning and then we could just put a few fields down there in fact if we do this now hmm kind of like this get these nice and snug in here okay and then oh baby yeah that's the ticket the plus 37 you gotta love it you've collected enough my kind of game bear to have you fair enough but if this is up your alley this is a no-brainer purchased anyway so yeah this is actually looking really good so far I like the way we've laid this out so we can continue building on this one or we can go to the new island and unlock all sorts of fancy new stuff and see what kind of new biomes there are and all that fun new what do you want to do it's a choose-your-own-adventure guys what do you want to do you want to stay here and expand or do you want to go out to a whole new place fun new says Mitch I'm all about the fun new ship Adventure Time go out and explore new Island I'm all about it let's go he'll continue on a mysterious new island there's no way to return to the current Island but you all there's no way to return we can never come back are you sure are you sure are you sure you want to quit the red X doesn't actually close in anymore you know you gotta you gotta get through the confirmation screen first make this one more beautiful I feel kind of tempted you know let's go build up some more points for self yeah wonder if that actually I wonder if the points transfer over that is an interesting consideration too you know what let's stay here just a little bit longer there just a little bit longer let's let's go through a few more packs see what we can do we'll make it pretty because I like this so far oh look we got houses now okay so houses and mansions lots of things to consider with these you can see that there's a lot of a lot of huge benefits in fact that you can get from mansions and houses so you want to make sure you place these in good position to be able to interact with a lot of different stuff behind night and psycho Mike I think I missed you a few minutes ago buddy thank you for the 15-time or a pie night thank you for 10 months well come on back and the city center also a pretty big influencer let's go ahead and see where we can put all right put this puppy down ooh I wonder does it fit here yeah it does oh that's not a bad idea that's not a bad idea that's good place for that it would hmm I would love it even more if it fit right here that would be all that would just make me cream myself but if I place this here I can't put another field down there and I think that's okay if I honestly think that's okay although another factor with the city centers is you want to make sure you put them kind of I'd say I suppose like in like a triangle formation around the island because you want to make sure that they don't interact with each other if at all possible but they also have these massive circles of influences you can see once you put them down they hit a lot of stuff I mean you can put one in the center - yeah that's true you could just have one big city center but that's I'm pretty sure that would be suboptimal I'm pretty sure you want to try to put them in like different corners of your area so you can max out the benefit don't let the circles touch yeah exactly so we're gonna minus five from the shaman over here too unfortunately and I don't know if there's even actually a place that I can go to avoid that so we might have to just deal with the plus 17 just fine you know it's pretty good in fact can I get a plate we can get a plus 19 look at that okay but this would probably be better would be a lot less reach for the sphere and a hero thanks for the three months appreciate buddy let me go ahead and do that to start off with and now it's time to decide where we need to put down our houses our mansions of course you can see here the shamans actually provide these guys in decent bonuses so we probably want to go ahead and even build them around the shamans down here can they reach the shaman influence there now unfortunately not that'd be nice can knock out a rock actually right there as sadly that's still just outside the sphere of influence though yeah Beach City baby exactly wonder if maybe no it doesn't let me build into the wall there okay I think I'm gonna have to start here but I build around the city center you know and it's for is certainly an option to yeah get a big bigger bonus that way there's not a lot of space to build around here though the house is actually you know what that would not be a bad idea the houses would probably work better over here and then that way hopefully we'll be able to get what's called the water plateau which is a bit of a spoiler but it's like a dock you'll be able to build out and expand upon Alex okay spacing lies I'm not sure if this is gonna work out how many we're gonna be able to get in here I'm hoping three but it's robably gonna be two so let's give it a shot I guess [Music] and might work out Oh interesting okay yeah see sometimes you get different shaped pieces as well which definitely changes the way you do things but hey I love that I love that okay let's go ahead and put these mansions over here I'd say although they do work over there as well we might just have to well I don't know that I don't think they even fit in fact any more nor the house is gonna give them any sort of benefit the mansions actually get bonuses from each other so just putting them in a group together usually ends up working out okay oh and look at this just they're freaking tetrominoes man that's all they are stick your lines kid the father it's a baby bear nine months in a row thank you very much appreciate it buddy behind the wall next to the town center yeah this is look these guys they live here they work at the brewery they just got to take a nice little trek up in an 80-degree yeah it's about an 80 degree incline fine they have a slide they take home at least so that's fun but look your grandpa had to walk uphill 80 miles just to get to work every day so while I don't lie here you're bitching mr. millennial Fisher a fountain honey I'll field both would work pretty well here I think through the snow - and the suit he lived near an active volcano in Antarctica was horrible gotta get those honkers I'd say so oh look at them mansions man fancy the living here we come it's a Fisher Fisher's get benefits from city centers warehouses statues and huts so naturally we want to try to put it within range of these two things out in the middle of the ocean is typically pretty good though you want to try to utilize that space out there as much as possible be over here to get the +18 that's a little awkward for positioning now this one looks real good there we go yeah we got to do it right there in the center for sure okay then we're gonna build around this way that's the ticket oh yeah oh yeah I'm starting to love it if this will fit here for me oh please yeah there we go little empty space there but that's fine not a big deal just don't pay attention to it please please just don't dwell on it oh god I know it's horrible I'm sorry oh god speaking of horrible this might be horrible - yeah it's gonna be bad no it's gonna be real bad these fields gonna look awkward oh well there we go Rob and Ebro gulp 23 months now and what in the world is this oh it's it's called the Islanders real good I highly recommend it so far it's Tetris meets kingdoms and castles with a scoring system poor people houses on the mansions peasants bands game Park perfect let them play oh it doesn't nothing fits over here and nothing fits over here sucks these guys like this though there you go baby park and a fountain perfect oh my god look at the benefits here does it fit there no not quite oh wow the house oh my god I had no idea look at this they like it up here too okay ah the lumberjack gives them a penalty Val well we get a plus 18 I saw I think seven oh yeah there it is nice oh my god I might want to do that just out in the middle of nowhere here that's tempting oh it's probably awful they'll tend to think that parks are just well better placed in the residential areas that +16 looks good man do it then build around it yeah I know that is it's a possibility for sure I just I don't know really definitively if it's gonna work out for me I think the closer I put it to here the better let's try it let's give it a whirl what's the worst that could happen go to a new place either way oh we got a new shape for the park here as well 19 good God it dude let's go big bonuses hell yeah and more fields yeah let's see yeah these +14 has got to be the way to go right let's take that another shaman okay hmm where else can I put this not a lot of great places for you buddy might just be the statue over here's okay just give it a plus zero location actually it's not a terrible idea in that way we could build around it later but it's likely gonna benefit me more to try to position it somewhere where I can build more mansions around it too however there's not a lot of great places for that here either if I do this now it's not far enough to get down there yeah the minus 26 that's where we need it for sure ah we can wait on that let's put another house down broad nearby this one yep that's it and that's the spot right there oh man saw +1 positive down on the beach hmm oh here we go +2 well I mean we're getting that from the from the flowers mostly and you know that might be okay if I do this out of range of that other one and that way I'll be able to build mansions around it it might not be the worst idea in the world at the trees you had more I think over here yeah we got a plus 6 over here that we could probably utilize that might be the best position oh if only I could get a plus 9 from that flower if I could get these over here but I don't think that's gonna work out yeah I think I'm probably just gonna have to try this especially if I can fit it oh yeah I can fit it there I think I was gonna do that before let's just do this now okay and then let's see ah Plateau here we go here's where gets real interest in so check this out we can build an extension of land out into the ocean we can build it almost anywhere we want out here in fact gives us a lot of different possibilities so we got to consider what place what area of the island would benefit from from adding this plat tale onto the end of it the most and in my mind it's almost certainly this area over here right now just because without that we're gonna have limited options for ways to interact with these houses I think if we do this here in fact we might be able to get something like a market for example which would give us pretty big bonuses if we put it in range of all these things so I think I'm gonna go ahead and put that right there shaggy hell yeah buddy hope you enjoy it it's a lot of fun thank you for the tier 2 for 22 months man very much appreciated built mansions let us take advantage if we can wear shaman placement I can actually build some mansions up here that wouldn't be too bad yeah that's that's pretty good as we get if I can get this got it fit in here somewhere which he should I thought he did in fact almost did why wasn't this working where does this go I thought this would fit hmm well we can do this which is fine plus 10 was nice though I could have sworn we had one there it is oh that's weird though oh boy yeah I don't know I don't know if I actually want to do that just do a mansion spin yeah yeah that's a little awkward oh there we go it's nice and snug now had to move it over a little bit that's not too bad we'll do that it's a little awkward can't fit this one in here I don't think we're gonna have to wait for a new design for that space and now ooh big bonuses here look at this the plus 14 hell yeah okay another Park ideally looking to place this nearby the the majority of these guys I guess the plus 14 is pretty good how we feeling up here we can't even place it up there plus twelve that's thirteen this is along the wall actually kind of like that it kind of looks nice there I'm like well let's do that I like just the way that looks their crews fast thirty four months in a row hot damn thank you dude I'll come on back and appreciate it sawmill gonna get bonuses from both of these guys if I put them over here so that works pretty well for me let's do it all right gonna ways to go on the score this time let's try the tower bonuses from temple mason statue and small bonuses from everything else down there for the tower definitely looking to place this near a statue if at all possible every single house it's nearby as well is gonna give it a nice little bonus in fact so welcome fact let's consider that as we place it first hey Zog thank you very much this are for the eight months well c'mon back in buddy so as you can see the houses actually get a bonus from the plateau as well however I do think it's probably better for us to keep expanding over in this area with them but it doesn't really seem like the best choice right now another city center this time as well perfect on the cliffs tower in the elevated cliffs oh yeah you know what oh it doesn't fit man that would be that would be really good there that would be a really good spot it can go here which is also good also very good in fact 23 is nice oh it would be so cool if we could go on top of these I would love that we got a 24 we got a lot of good places for this tower I can echo I like this I could fill in that spot right there pretty nicely that's not bad 26 right here that's pretty good too hmm I mean 25 26 seems like it's gonna be about as good as it can get oh I'll check that out even if it gives us a slightly lower score I actually kind of like this too it's not really worth sacrificing 4 points for but that's neat oh yeah we should put the house first you're right does it get a benefit from the parks it does get a benefit from the park so we should put the parks down as well let's see I can't do that no I don't want to put a park up here anyway because of the mill this would be a terrible place for one actually I'd be okay then the tower would almost certainly benefit from it yeah I think I could fit a field there either let's do that put another field there for sure god this these corners are so awkward goddamnit I can't get the five there either whatever let's just get the 11 that's so weird such a weird positioning where should I put this city centre as well other Fisher and the statue I want to get it over here if I can that's where I put the other one though of course duh all right well we don't want to do that mmm shamans hate him too let me I had another Fisher right now well this is probably gonna have to be over here I'm top maybe no not at all the plus seven I thought I saw there yeah plus seven that's not bad that's all right I love this spot so much I think I'm just gonna have to do it just based on how much I like that spot let's put another Park down our quick plus 14 +14 man yeah you got to do it I think you got to do it we got one more house which I think I'm gonna put here even though I don't love this spot I want to try to keep this Plateau open just in case we're able to get something really good to put there so we'll just smack that puppy down there to actually just give us one more bonus point for this tower there it is just cleared it nice we actually came kinda close to the game over there I didn't even realize it okay progress ooh let's do a warehouse lots of houses okay so the warehouse gets a large bonus from these buildings adjacent a plus 20 is really nice already we'll probably just go ahead and put this guy here it's not bad at all just don't know exactly where I want to put it yeah that'll beneficial okay hmm Mason benefited from the statue I think right we would take lumber pack for sure if we were over here which we could we could still do it it's not like we have to connect these two you know what let's take a lumber pack to start off with and get some stuff working around all these trees that seems smart we can do with lumberjack actually in a few places everything benefits from the plateau though than it is to get the points so let's do like right around there now let's see I think I'd like to put a lumberjack pretty far away from some stuff just to be able to give us more space to work with for other things let's do that let's do this kind of near the edge though ideally obviously try not to knock down any trees right there and right there perfect sawmill to be able to get all three we don't want actually to put one down that would interfere with the others so well I mean I can do that and I could do that and that would be okay but I think I might actually be better off doing like this this and then eventually I'll build a third one over here that takes these two I think that's probably gonna be the best way to make the most of that okay brewing Peck start off they benefit from each other right hold on which gets more that's gets poor from the sandpit this gets three from the Brickyard so I think it'd actually be better off doing this first I think I'm
