Bacon & Eggs - made inside a TRAIN! | K-37 Kitchen

I may have seasoned the shovel too well and today's experiment is bacon grease flammable [Music] yes yes it is [Laughter] the fire is basically dead but bacon grease she likes it what's up guys this is Heiss and we are once again back at the Colorado Railroad Museum and it is lunch time we're firing up both 491 our k-37 of k-37 kitchen and also Rio Grande southern number 20. t19 that's also been featured on the show a couple times getting both the engines ready for our Colorado Crossings event which may or may not have happened by the time this posts don't worry about it but it's a great rail Fan event where we're going to show off the engines and some unique Concepts but as it's lunch time I figure it's time that we finally do the classic at least a version of the classic thing it cooked on the coal scoop that is bacon and eggs and because everything on a steam locomotive is filthy we're going to be doing bacon and eggs sandwiches a little bit more hands-free no plates no knives and forks there's not really a whole lot of room for most of that stuff so I got some bacon I got some English muffins I got some eggs a little salt and pepper and uh I'm gonna start making things happen here now I did sanitize the scoop cleaned it off but I want to cook off anything else and this is going to be interesting because this is a warm-up fire so the fire is not all the way to the back because I'm trying to keep some of the smoke from coming out this way but we're gonna get that nice and hot because we're going to start with the bacon cook the bacon first fry the egg and the Bacon Fat toast the English muffins and the Bacon Fat it's gonna be a great time that's good sound let's let that sit there and do its thing it's bacon time see about flip [Music] all right nice flipped [Music] it's pretty much the only setting is high high heat [Music] oh yeah basically deep frying the bacon in its own fat right now this is great Ace looks about great it's hard to hold your hand near the fire that's the biggest problem with this that's getting there [Music] it's surprising how far down you have to hold the scoop to the fire to get it hot enough I can't I can't hold my hands you know next to the door but you have to have the scoop like on the fire bed [Music] just how hot is it that hot hot enough that the GoPro hot enough that the GoPro is not happy about being that close to the fire let's shut off and overheated yeah we got a couple pieces of bacon done I think I'll fry up a I'll frap a whole package and then we'll go from there all right it might be a slightly overcrowded pan but that's fine hey man how's it going doing good making uh doing like what we like to do making that bacon egg sandwiches if you want one I like k-37 I got two pounds of bacon so we should be probably fine yeah I had a camera on on the coal shovel itself but the heat from the Firebox even just being that far back it overheated so it's fine it's fine there you go breakfast on the foot plate gotta love it you did spend time in Wales foot plate we will re we really re-americatize you driving he's he's driving today he's not the driver he's the engineer Moment of Truth how's the first piece oh bacon grease fire in the scoop it's fine don't worry about it that piece of bacon is just extra crispy didn't realize we were getting flum bed bacon in its own fat shovel cam is back we got the first chunk of bacon made so we're gonna try and get try and get an egg going here this might be an involved processor let's see how do we want to do this [Music] didn't break the oak all right oh yes I did well it's all right egg mistakes are edible it's fine gonna have to assemble this pretty quickly here too so I'm gonna start toasting toasting the muffin on the other side here [Laughter] this first sandwich is going to be a bit of a mess it's turned into a bit of a scramble oh and that is just cool burnt bacon should have brought plates Engineers Pharmacy it's kind of like a plate my egg turned into a mess but it'll still work it's a bit of a mess it's all right hopefully it's not too much coal [Music] hmm a bit more of a scrambled egg than not scrambled but it's very good it's hard to beat eggs basically fried in bacon fat um are you interested in the sandwich all right let's see if I can screw it up take two so we learned the secret is move the shovel off to the side two hands [Music] oh yes there we go you're gonna have a much better fried egg than I did speaking of I gotta get that toasting because this is gonna go nice and quick [Music] [Applause] [Music] wait until that White sets up a little bit more around the yolk give it a little flip hopefully over easy cooked on on demand to order to specifications here [Music] that yolk is perfect release it shovel oh come on how is there not enough bacon grease on this shovel right now foreign well it's not getting flipped apparently all of the bacon grease ended up you're getting a scrambled egg too I'm sorry [Laughter] I've yet to fry a perfect egg it probably is well I had a scoop full of bacon grease okay I don't have plates so you'll be receiving it from The Vessel here thank you you're in line for one too you're all right with your reaction being on YouTube [Laughter] good all right Dusty might be getting me butter which is probably was [Music] sous chef Dusty's here Chef I mean probably the real shotgun it's fun oh yeah paint that on there be naughty well the butter is helpful too because you can actually tell how hot the scoop is not quite oh is he gonna he's one hand in it oh no that's fine the whole egg fry the whole egg the entire thing it's fine it's fine it's fine it's fine it'll be fine don't worry I miss the butter but it's fine it's it's fine you just been throwing the shells in the fireball oh I have actually I've been putting them back in the oh okay and the thing I mean you could probably put the shell in the fireplace I don't know what temperature eggshell Burns at but presumably it's less the coal fire the butter is burning off the edge of the scoop so the tip's nice and hot [Music] back's a little stuck the front's actually lifting up pretty good put the yolks in the back I can hold the scoop if you want oh don't break it oh there it goes scrambled eggs that's fine egg egg mistakes are uh oh yeah hot in the hands man that's the hardest part like you almost want to wear gloves still just from the heat of the fire oh it's warm it's fine I got this order up unless Dusty's having it I think Dusty's having that one dirty it's uh it's got his name on it let's see it's hot it is hot it did don't break it don't break it come on oh really yeah see I see the problem now is that it rolls immediately to the back because the way the show the scoop is shaped I do see that snatch that out real quick save it there we go come on get out there all right see if we can't keep the yolk floating somewhere precariously close to the Flames no close to the Flames there we go sit there sit there and stay the shovel dissipates heat like that it is real thin oh your shovel anymore you sold it yep yeah either or right dreams oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah let's get that here yeah that's over over easy is the the traditional thing but you know except we're learning here yeah we that would have been smart I cooked on a shovel bathed in Coal served on a rag it's Elegance at its finest five stars yeah there is there will be [Laughter] [Music] the world famous Jeff Taylor everyone who who also known as ketchup in in some parts yes yeah this really is an easier operation with two people so that somebody can hold the the unconventional vehicle uh the other one works oh shovel cam got hot again what else is new oh yeah this is the best sandwich yet oh oh yeah that's the money shot right there hardcore the best sandwich there you are thank you gentlemen there you are you'll have to let us know how it goes yeah you've got he's got a whole separate locomotive to work on now the funny thing is the engine needs more coal but I don't want to use that so we'll use this one [Music] thank you don't worry 491 got her piece of bacon too she's Chef too
